Your name is Kane Gerric - a Miralukan lad with an untapped power, a pair of blaster pistols and a very dangerous goal.
Fifteen years ago, you were born into dire poverty.
Fifteen minutes ago, you savaged two street thugs.
Five minutes ago, you decided to rob the richest man on the planet.

The setting sun cast a rosy glow over the grey and dusty streets. The silvered facade of Jeergan Kal's tower was bloodied, the breathtaking structure taking on a malevolent glare.
"This is the worst idea ever." Your companion whined. "Remind me why I'm here again."
"Didn't you say you were coming along to keep me out of trouble? Besides, I've got a real good feeling about this plan. It feels like Bogan is with us on this one."
"Bogan? Isn't that your god of, like, evil or something?" The Twi'lek chides. "Besides, you don't even HAVE a plan. A death-wish maybe, but I'm waiting for something that even SOUNDS like a plan."
"I've got a blaster. Maybe we can just forgo the plan?" She glares. "Ow, that was a joke, alright? Watch where you're swinging those arms, robo-girl!"

So I'm starting to think a little more about how I want to handle combat and skill checks. I'm thinking that I'd like to run some sort of system with multiple dice. Would you guys be okay with a system that uses best of, average of and worst of depending on situation?
I'd also like to keep increasing the size and number of force dice you can roll when you get stronger (you've currently got 1d10)
How does that sound?
Gather 'round, all ye hero's both great and small, for I hereby call to order yet another important meeting of the world renowned Adventurers Guild! Friends, I come to you all today bearing bad news! Recently, a study published by the both the Mages' Guild, and the Guild of Eternal Love and Nature, has recently discovered that the kingdom's Goblin population is currently on the decline, with 106 of the local 237 goblin tribes having been completely wiped out within the last month! Now normally I would call forth a great guild feast to celebrate such joyous news, but alas, I cannot, for as of this morning, the local monarch, King Gryan "Nofuneallowed" Xellinosta IX, has proclaimed that the local Goblinoid populations to now be on "The Endangered Species Scrolls", meaning anyone caught killing goblins, hobgoblins, and Bugbears will now be executed!
This my friends, is bad news Owlbears. As more than 62% of all submitted Guilds requests are to quell the local goblin populations! Now before we act out and begin a massive Crusade about our livelihoods, I wish to hear everyone's opinions on this matter about what we should do. Afterward, we can THEN form a Crusade to defend our livelihoods!
Well, In my opinion, I feel that we should do the sensible thing, and simply ride this out. Let the goblins rebuild for a few weeks, and wait for all the requests to start flooding in.

Great, I sigh as I look up at the now dark grey and flowing clouds running through the sky, it's starting to rain. I shake my head and lift my cap up as Ochamu looks down at me, looking worried and a bit nervous as Yotshi tries to fix my arm up a bit better than I did myself
"Stop touching it so much" I whine, as more burning pain digs its way into my arm like a bunch of worms in an apple "would ya?"
"If you weren't squirming around so much I wouldn't have to keep touching it" Yotshi groans, pushing his glasses up with his blood tinged fingers "Honestly I have no idea how you were even able to move around with this, a normal person would be out cold or dead, and no offense, but you're...you know, sleepy all the time"
"Is it really that bad?" Ochamu asks, sounding very concerned, her face looking like a big teddy bear "Why'd you go back to fighting when you're that hurt already Adela?...guess you're just braver than I am...not that I'm surprised"
"Well it's not like I wanted to come here on my own, now is it?" I say, leering at the captain as he talks on his personal den den mushi, a tattered mean looking thing "Ai! stop putting that crap in there, it burns like hell!"
"Stop whining, it's just disinfectant you big accented baby" Yotshi groans, sounding annoyed as he starts to wrap my shoulder up in bandages "it's probably going to scar over, but then again that's to be expected with a cut that deep"
"Well I've always wanted a scar anyways" I chuckle happily as I stretch my arm out and stretch my fingers, wincing from the fresh, artificial burn in my shoulder "No skin off my back"
"But you'll have to cover it up if you ever wear a dress and I don't think make up can hide it even a little" Ochamu says sounding horrified at the thought
I giggle as Yotshi sighs and starts to pack up his medical do thingies

Assuming that you agree with Star Wars being a fantasy story in a scifi trapping, wouldn't you say the same about Dune?
>jihadists
>people banning self-aware computers
>tons of political bullshit
>women-power movement / sect
>corporation monopolizing vital services
sound modern-day to me, fampai
No.
People call Star Wars Science Fantasy because it is your basic fantasy story in space complete with magic and knights.
Dune has fantastical elements to be sure but also has a complex and thought out world with plausible science.
>>45885518
Yeah, why not?
I mean, it's science is about as hard as pudding, and there's a fair bit of mysticism and psychic randomness tossed in.
I don't really see how reclassifying it would change anything though.
Filling out a Dungeons and Dragons character sheet is literally 2 hours of banal busywork before you get to anything resembling actual gameplay. As a working adult, 2 hours of my time is worth over fifty dollars. Each and every character I make costs me a FIFTY FUCKING DOLLARS.
>>45885117
Opportunity costs imply you would be spending that time to work, but people don't usually fill out their character sheets while they're supposed to be on the clock.
Realistically, your opportunity cost would be something closer to watching television orshitposting on 4chan.
>>45885117
It only takes that long if you have no idea what you're doing and need help. If you know what you're doing it can take just a few minutes (depending on edition and starting level).
>>45885206

OPs lack of understanding of basic macroeconomics makes me question who would pay him/her $25 to work.
The first contact after years and years finally happens.
And what is more, the aliens seems to be both friendly and with good intentions.
Still, as we meet them we quickly learn that they are -by a wide margin- 'superior' to us in all fields except the physical one (whenever it's being tougher, stronger or whatever).
>How would this affect the relationship between this alien specie and humans, assuming the aliens aren't minding us at all or our differences?
>How would our culture change?
>Would it move more toward physical fitness over all the other fields?
>What other consequences this would bring among the human population in the long and short term?
Within a year or two, the entire world becomes focused on that single thing we're really good at, our whole culture centering on it and how you aren't worth anyone's while if you can't do it well, disdain towards aliens for not being able to do it, all of it masking an incredibly dark and deep inferiority complex that may or may not eventually result in a desperate war against the aliens.

don't play a fucking monk in pathfinder

fuck
Short answer: you can't
Tome of awesome supplement had an okay monk.
I'm trying to generate a range of 1-7 for attributes for a game.
What would be better, rolling 1d6+1 (which skews upwards a bit) or 2d4-1 (which bell curves around an average)?
This is a scifi game with average people as protagonists, so I generally want average attribute stats for PCs, but nobody likes getting gimped PCs with 1s in their stats either.
>>45882404
How much the stats matter - that is, is there a significant difference between 4 and 5?
Most games with "average people" PCs generally tend to skew things up just a tad to avoid gimpy characters. They're still well within average, just the upper end of it.

It's a solid card if you have variety in your deck. By turn 4 you've probably played a fetchland, a sorcery, an instant, and a creature. There's a pretty good chance that there will be enough card types for it to be effective.

Hey /tg/!
I'm going to be running a session of Paranoia and I need ideas for mysterious R&D items to hand out to the PCs. Ideally they should be useful when it works properly, but be confusing as fuck to do so.
>The Problem Solver
A dumbbell shaped instrument with a trigger button on the handle. Can be thrown. Trigger has an n-second delay which R&D can illustrate with fun acoustic messages like "Solution in 3... 2... 1..." The two tanks will then mix and explode, creating a dense foam which is aggressively acidic and hardens into a still reactive concrete within 30 seconds. This block will then proceed to dissolve anything it touches and itself to a murky slush within the next 3 hours. Materials of higher security clearance are not affected.
>Fun Dispenser
Hand sized reservoir of diverse psychopharmaceutical enhancers. Integrated sensory suite analyzes citizen subject and then dispenses a colorful (not security relevant) pill custom tailored to the situation. This consideration includes the subject's current health and happiness, the general mood of the team, randomly inserted experimental studies from Friend Computer, poetic justice, and some say pranks by R&D. Effects are usually limited to happiness (5 in 6) but may include severe paranoia, claustrophobia, sudden diarrhea, inability to speak words longer than 1 syllable, or exploding head. Refusing a custom tailored pill is treason.
>The MacGuffin
A 200 lbs cube of metal without handles, "Fragile" written on the side and "This side up" written on top and bottom. All equipment must be returned to R&D in pristine condition upon conclusion of the mission.
>>45881051
Leaving aside the awesomeness of rocket boots, the laser helmet was one of more favorite items. It's simply a helmet with a hands-free laser weapon built right in. It locks into place and can't be removed (the R&D folks don't want you taking it off and compromising their trial or maybe even losing or damaging the thing). The trigger mechanism is simple: it fires whenever you give a quick blink (a slower blink does not activate it). The problem is that most involuntary blinks set it off, causing the troubleshooter to blast whatever he's looking at. There is, however, a safety on the helmet, but it's not immediately obvious (you have to really feel around for it) and it doesn't work properly. If the safety is engaged and you blink, instead of firing the laser, the helmet begins to overheat rather dramatically. The first time merely makes the helmet uncomfortably hot, but if it hasn't cooled down by the time you blink again, the top of the helmet will catch on fire. Fortunately, the rest of the helmet will shield you from this fire, but walking around with your head on fire tends to make you a target. A third blink will burn through the safety and fuse the trigger mechanism in such a way that the helmet will fire whenever you *don't* blink every second or so. This will also cause alarm klaxons to engage until the unit is repaired.

Psychotropic grenade launcher, range 50m, grenade dispersion area is 60m
I just did some math (which is arguably worse than meth). Before you get your arithmetic boners twisted, note that I did round up all the numbersand that I may or may not have sucked at math back in High School.
In D&D, average unskilled laborer (AUL) gets a single gold piece per month.
Using this site ( http://eh.net/database/unskilled-wage-index-u-s/ ) we can see that current (2008) AUL has the monthly wage of 1425$. So let's say 1gp = 1425$.
By using this list ( http://www.therichest.com/rich-list/world/top-10-people-with-the-highest-salaries-in-the-world/?view=all ) we can say that average monthly income of Tim Cook, CEO and Business Exec. of Apple, is 31,499,711$.
That would mean the highest paid person in our world would get 22105gp per month.
JUST 22105gp.
How does this make you feel? And to all you PCs only motivated by wealth, why didn't you fuck off after the first dungeon crawl?
I hold that gold is actually worthless in my game, and has a value determined completely by guild fiat.
Or that 'gold piece' is actually paper money with a PICTURE of a gold piece on it.
>>45880788
What your autistic mind is ignoring is that prices in D&D are for game balance and are not a reflection of reality. Everyone who's not you has already figured this out.
>>45880852
Not my current GM. I just did this calculation to prove a point that such thinking is fantastical in more ways than one.
