I will (hopefully) soon be starting up my first game of Anima. It's my first time trying to run the system, any tips?
Oh, also, is it Anima or ANIMA?
1.Anima, not ANIMA nor Anime (but nearly).
2. Be good at math and keep a calculator nearby, use core exxet changes https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Bw6m-aNBSyZNQm0ycWVIa09sUFk&usp=sharing if not spanish
3. Excuse the bad translation, core exxet never unless you all bitch on ffg forums for it
4. IT'S the heaviest crunch game i've played, starting it it's hard once you're done it gets easier but it's very crunch, if you don't enjoy crunchy games you might not like it

Cheers; I've already made up a little google sheet for doing the damage calculation stuff, good to know it wasn't a waste of time
Do you know if FFG ever released any example NPC stats? Like for Inquisitors
>>45926406
>Do you know if FFG ever released any example NPC stats?
Nope! We did get official stats (translation somewhere), anima official characters are not minmaxed, in fact they're the opposite.
>Like for Inquisitors
Level 6+ normally, packing judicators and enough issues to make freud cum.
What are some good websites to do non-freeform PbP roleplaying on? Hopefully with a good community, minimal insularity, andtolerance for weeaboo preferences.
Is Myth-Weavers.com any good? What about RPoL.net, RpNation.com, or TheTangledWeb.net?
I used to play a game that both had it's own forum and used to host games on other forums called Roll2Dodge.
That was probably back in 2010 so I have no idea if it's still alive, but it was pretty neat back in the day.
You're gonna scream, you're gonna kick and punch and say "no no no"
But I can tell you that, if you can sift through the toilet that istumblryou can find maybe a decent group or two.your experiences may vary

...how does that even work? It's an image sharing site masquarading as a blog service.
I'm new at tabletop RPGS. What does "old school", "new school" and "old school revival" mean?
>>45924498
Older design ideals compared to newer ones.
The break is around '96 or so.
Old school revival is bringing old design ideals and mechanics back.
>>45924828
I think OP is asking what the literal changes are in general.
>>45924828
Well yeah I can figure out that much but - yeah what >>45924874 said. What does it mean to be an old school game, in terms of mechanics and stuff?

Under your exhortation, work resumes on the temple. Earth is raised, layered with stones to hold it in place and the ditch is dug, dozens of feet pounding the earth flat and solid and strong and the two paths that will sweep around the mound and up to the top start to be dug in. It will take some time before the hill raises to its full height and grass covers it once again and just as long before it is ready for the construction that will stand atop it. Great standing stones will mark the path up to a central space where statues of the gods will stand, carved into the pillars that hold up the roof of the temple proper. Even if the roof should fall, or the walls collapse, the stones and the pillars and the mound will stand for years, even generations to come, for your children and your children's children to remember your deeds. All that is in the future however, as for now, you still need to construct your creation. Your people are motivated, but there is still a long, long way to go and the materials will not be easy to come by.

Time passes and it is now early summer, the warm sun beating down on one and all.
The traders are glad to see you back at the market place. They once again offer their exotic goods, but at your suggestion of them transporting raw material for the temple, the smiles fade and there's a lot of concerned discussion. Building materials are heavy and take up a lot of space they could use for smaller, lighter and higher-value goods. Your offer would have to be VERY enticing and probably include magic as well as mundane goods.
>To barter, roll 4d10 (Charisma)
>Offer items to lower the target number, or if you offer nothing, you trade for generic supplies that you have plenty of.
>Beads
>Shells
>Fine tools
>Exotic, spotted furs
>Carved bones and art objects
>Flashing beads that shine like fire
>Empty quartz
>Order building materials
Rolled 2, 7, 8, 4 = 21 (4d10)
>Offer them healing and direct blessings along with furs in exchange for building materials.yessss I caught this quest! Fox witch queen when? Best civ game runner
>>45924442
I'm thinking now. That's not very inticing. Maybe we offer them permanent shelter and healing whenever they come through. They can keep their stuff here, safe and bring any sick or injured to heal. We attach it to the temple so that they have a hand in building their future.
Aren't the Necrons really just robots programmed to think they're the Necrontyr? They don't have souls and they don't have any organic matter either. What exactly still links them to their former existence that makes it so that they're still the same beings instead of robots who happen to believe they were once organics?
Ship of Theseus.
>>45924036
>Aren't the Necrons really just robots programmed to think they're the Necrontyr?
No.
Necrontyr minds were transmuted into living energy and then transferred into android bodies. That's why they call the whole process the biotransference. It's the cause behind the soullessness that radiates from the Necrons.
There another type of Necrons called False Necrons. These Necrons were created by copying the minds of Necrontyr, who died before they could be biotransfered, into AI and then uploading them into Necron bodies.
>>45924154
There are also Tomb Worlds who have suffered damage from, "the long sleep," and have had their mental patterns erased, leaving mindless robot bodies behind.
The master computer of the Tomb World then, "puppets," their bodies around in an attempt to bring order to the chaos.

There's a rumour of an ancient eldar craftworld roaming the void, not affiliated with any of the well known craftworld clans.
It was abandoned ages ago, perhaps before birth of Slaanesh, by its denizens who presumably settled down on an exodite world and left the craftworld to its own fate. It's unknown what motivated them to do so, perhaps their seers foresaw something?
In any event, the craftworld was found adrift by patrol vessels of an otherwise unremarkable frontier planet at around the same time when tyranid hive fleet entered the sector. Governor organized evacuation of as much of his subjects as he could onto the strange hulk, with silent consent of radical inquisitor from his retinue. The craftworld then vanished before the system was engulfed by the hive. There is no mention of the incident in imperial records.
The craftworld then begun appearing, rumour has it, during pitched battles throughout the sector, turning the tide in Imperium's favour.
As time went on, legend of the craftworld grew to include adventurous eldar and rogue tau fighting alongside with it against forces of chaos and destruction.

>A lot more of the Legions were neutral/waiting to see which side was winning in the Horus Heresy than anyone would ever admit. Ultramarines are the biggest example, but there were several others who deliberately delayed responding to the calls for assistance for fear that they'd pick the weaker side.
>There are female Chaos Space Marines. Refusing to implant women was a deliberate choice on the Emperor's part, as he feared that a method would be developed to let Space Marines breed naturally and create a super race that would replace humankind. Fabius Bile has no such compunctions.
>Battle Ssiters have specialized training for fighting renegade Marines. Through a combination of ferocity, rigorous training and exceptional equipment they are considered to be one of the only fighting forces able to pose a threat to an Astartes Chapter. Space Marines, for their part, have a very cool relationship with the Sisters and are often resentful of their presence on the battlefield.
>The exception to this are the Black Templars, who frequently deploy alongside the Sisters. The ignorant even refer to them as a male counterpart to the Sororitas, or "Brothers of Battle".
>There are way, way, more than 1,000 men in a Chapter. 1,000 refers to the number of infantry, and is mostly a convenient fiction to show Codex compliance. There are actually tons of "recruits", "auxiliaries", "pilots" etc, who frequently fight as infantry in the same manner as the 1k officially recognized by the Chapter.
>Eldar consider aggression a feminine trait. They think Humans are weird for having all male warrior orders.
>Tau happily appropriate any religion they come into contact with, and modify it to suit their tastes. The Emperor is depicted in the Tau Empire as a jolly, large-bellied human who brings treats to good children once a year.
>emps is dead and pretty much always has been since he sat on the throne, whatevers there keeping that lighthouse lit and giving bits of itself away to protect psykers from chaos is actually some chaos entity, like so many others, emps made a deal with
>astartes have functioning genitalia
What are the best space opera RPGs?
Why it's obviouslywhichever one you like bestand anyone who tells you otherwise is a filthy liarbut seriously, Stars Without Number is pretty cool if OSR-y stuff is up your alley
Homebrew setting with GURPS/other generic system/homebrew rules.
Premade settings don't work IMO for space opera. You want the players to be exploring unknown facets of the universe and creating their own stories as they go. Some of the best and longest running games I've ran have been when I can change the themes, story and even universe depending on what the players want.
>>45923798
I've played enough Alternity to know, not Alterntiy.
White Star is pretty good.
But honestly, if I'm going to play good old-fashioned cliché-heavy space opera, I'm gonna go with Risus.
Has your GM ever caused to you to feel in a game before?
>>45923455
Yes.
Feel awesome.
Feel sad.
Feel depressed.
Of course the worst waswhen my character wound up depressing enough in character that I started getting depressed out of character and had to stop playing
>be biracial
>haven't had much contact with police outside of DARE, got pulled over for a traffic violation once
>make a tiefling with a human father
>get racially profiled by town guards
>>45923892
From the outside, that's kind of funny.
>Gm makes a cyberpunk setting
>There's zombies in it, roaming around outside the cities
>"Cyberzombie" refers to when the tech counteracts your vaccine
>Zombies were supernaturally made but function on science
>BBEG is the demon that made the zombies
>The Mega-Corps are all profiteering off demonic test subjects
>High likelihood that the test subjects are demi-humans from Ajin
>VR is well known to be almost exclusively for fetish porn by now
>GM tells us we're all going to need to design all terrain race cars
I literally don't even know what the fuck
Be sure to bring these concerns up to your groupwhen you get one.
>>45923369
Sounds like you got suckered into a RIFTS(TM)(R) game.
>>45923473
Nah, he'd still be making his character.
So /tg/, what's the best system forroll playing
To be more specific, what's the best system to run a game that is non-existent outside of combat, with the possible exception of downtime bonuses that precise some kind of mechanical character bonus. A system that focuses on "Effect first", instead of "fluff first".
My group has been playing Gamma World for this, but it's gotten unbelievably stale. What others would be good for that?
>>45923290
D&D
>>45923436
/thread
>>45923436
Not really. For most editions, the game does not work well as a roll playing game, as a classes out of combat ability is weighed against their in combat ability. Removing all the out of combat aspects of the game would leave the system severely crippled.
DnD is pretty terrible for generic hack and slash
Let's see what horrible monster /tg/ can make!

Creature environment or World? (d100)

>>45923014
Never done one of these before.
>>45923211
Jungle - "It thrives in a dense saturated jungle filled with diverse wildlife."
Then I hope you enjoy your first creation thread then.
What is the creature's food habits? (d10)
>>45923234
I've seen them around, and lurked. I like them.
The Ordo Sepulturum sounds really cool, but there's next to no fluff on them. The 1d4Chan article mentions that some fa/tg/uys of yore did some homebrew fluff on them. Any details? If not, let's make some?
>>45922388
That's because Portuguese Groove Metal isn't grimdark enough.
>>45922388
Remember anon, the Ordo Sepulturum fights against all diseases of chaotic origin.
Yes, Obliterator Virus is a chaotic disease. Yes, you may find yourself fighting technozombies who will outdakka you.
>>45922514
That just makes them cooler.
It's the first session. How do you bring together an eight player party who all know of each other but don't hang out together often.
Get them drunk and coerce them into acting out their basest desires through roleplay?
>>45922405
Nah son, I mean in-game.
Firstly, the OP is a bit misleading. I thought this was about the actual players and not the characters. Or are you still talking about the players?
Secondly, ditch at least 2 players. You're gonna find it real hard with 8 players.
Okay, at first I was just trying to come up with an excuse to cherry-pick aspects of different chapters I liked, but then I stumbled upon a premise that I thought was pretty awesome by itself:
>What if a small group of Fallen Angels disguised themselves as a hermit-garrison of Black Templars, but then got roped into 'adopting' a bunch of Initiates and Neophytes whose leadership had died in battle?
Basically, the story goes like this:
>Imperial Fists establish an outpost in an out-of-the-way corner of an otherwise important border system during the Great Crusade
>Sometime during or after the Horus Heresy, the outpost is abandoned but left intact with some infrastructure remaining
>Later, a handful of Fallen Angels, regretful of their deeds but unwilling to face the harsh penance the Dark Angels would inflict on them, find the outpost.
>This band decides to maintain the chapel and meditate for the rest of their days, or at least until the followers of El'Jonson find them.
>When the locals find them first, they make up a bullshit story of them being honor-bound to fulfill some ancient oath Rogal Dorn made to watch over the system.
>Pass the centuries quietly talking turns in-and-out of sus-an hibernation
>Eventually a battered Black Templars strike cruiser limps into the system to recooperate after being separated from its crusade due to warp shenanigans
>The Templars suffered many casualties along the way, most importantly evey marine over the rank of sword-brother was dead
>Desperate for guidance, they investigate rumors of ancient warriors of Dorn slumbering within the system
>Awaken the Fallen, who out of panic fabricate an entire chapter of which they were the sole survivors
>The Fallen relent to the Templars' request to lead them, figuring that being forced to shepherd a bunch of irrational, fanatical warriors who want nothing more than to die for the Emperor was ironic justice at its finest.
What do you guys think the result would be?
>>45921540
I like it.
>What do you guys think the result would be?
I think that if they assume command eventually they'll get killed off in service to the Emperor. The question then becomes does their secret ever get passed on to the younger Marines? Or do they become one of those groups with an unknown chapter origin?
>>45921540
Thats honestly really awesome.
>>45921722
Hm...
You make a good point with their inevitable death in battle. If they die without any lasting impact, how is this chapter going to be any different from regular Black Templars?
Maybe if they stay at the base as a sort of "council" to educate and direct overall efforts, designating captains to carry out shorter crusades and bring back new recruits, there would be the potential for some kind of a conspiracy vibe.
What I'm most curious about is what they're going to teach their Chaplains...
Thread name says it all. Anybody play this awesome shit? I mean, it has fucking devils making brandy from peoples souls and mirror-travelling eye-stealing spiders which are governed by dozens of spiders literally glued together. Why aren't you playing it right fucking now?
>>45921459
I love this setting and I wish I could figure out how to port it to the tabletop. Have to say I prefer Sunless Sea to the browser game though.
>>45921565
sunless sea is awesome as well. The browser game has the feeling of old solo adventures, like lone wolf. There were already discussions of porting the setting to tabletop on the failbetter forums, don't know if anything was actually done about it. I think it would be quite possible
I'm not playing it right fucking now because it's a piece of shit facebook-tier game where I'm limited in how many things I can do a day without giving them money.
