Alright /tg/, I decree two challenges

The First! Post lady-knights, we ALL need more lady-knights. Don't like the second challenge? Who cares, post lady-knights

The Second! Justify combat heels in a world that doesn't have horses. I'm thinking something along the lines of imitating digitigrade lizard demons to look scarier?

>Justify combat heels in a world that doesn't have horses
Plateau-like heels can make you look taller. Stilleto heels that are basically the modern equivalent of high heels serve little purpose on the battlefield. In business it can still help you look taller and more intimidating, but board meetings aren't decided by who is the last (wo)man standing.

Western heels developed for stirrups, but further east the excuse was "The hems of my fashionably oversized robes keep picking up dirt and mud, and I'm sure as hell not wearing shorter robes."

Hey guys, I would like to discuss a problem with sci-fi settings I find a big downer when it comes to suspense of disbelief.

You see, in the overwhelming majority of settings, the technological advancement in the world is significant when it comes to almost everything safe for the humans themselves.

With the advance of genetic engineering, cybernetics and AI I am pretty sure we'd have creatures unrecognizable by us long before we'd have FTL engines.

In order to have relatable characters, we'd need some tabu over the technological development in some areas.

Thinking about Dune, Star Trek and 40K in that regard.

So, Am I just being weird or some of you find this discrepancy troubling ?

>>
Dune had the Tleilaxu and 40k had all sorts of transhuman stuff
>>
>>46028735
The general thing to do is to just give up trying to have things be science fiction unless the author actually knows what they're talking about. It saves a lot of effort when you just think of 99% of sci-fi as actually fantasy.
>>
>>46028735

In many ways you are likely correct anon, one would have thought that widespread genetic engineering would lead to several human sub-groups. After all it is much cheaper to modify people than it is to terraform a world.

But here's the thing. As a reader player, you have to feel invested in the experience and that means that the world has to be relatable on some level. Make it to alien and people just turn off or don't understand, after all it's much easier to get into the head of Barry Scumbles, asteroid miner with a heart of gold than it is to really understand the life a post human with four eyes, two hearts and the ability to read someones mind instantly.

It also presents a challenge for the writer. After all how do you write about something so far outside of the conventional human experience. Very good writers can present this idea in an understandable way. Read Laline Pauls The Bees for a good example, the Bees in the book are regular garden honeybees, but they live in a gloriously weird theological dictatorship worshiping their queen.

40K writers run the gamut from okay to poor and also the setting is not exactly complex. Star Trek is limited by the budget and make-up department and as for Dune I think FH felt that post humanism wasn't a core theme of his book. In fact the whole point is was refining the 'essence' of the perfect human via Eugenics, rather than by large scale genetic engineering.

Also, I don't think there are an enormous number of great ETB creatures for Feldon to use in mono-red.

>The las did nothing against its armour. It turned, but then there were hands pulling her and Sever out of its path, and a storm surge of Crusaders, brandishing bayonets, crashed into the monster. It roared at them, smashed heads to pulp with its hammer, but they kept coming in endless, desperate frenzy. There were so many, they climbed over each other as they struck at the ork. Haas made it to her feet. Sever was already up, exhorting the civilians who streamed by on either side, buffeting him in their rush. She witnessed the impossible: an ork submerged by the human tide.

>Dozens of Crusaders died. But they trampled the ork to death.

>A group of orks came back hard, avenging their leader, and the greenskin formation was diluted still further. More platoons of Imperial Guard closed in. They turned heavy weapons on the orks. Rockets and flamers exterminated unlucky humans as well, but there were fewer greenskins, and always more humans.

>We’re fighting like them, Haas realised, and that part of her mind that could still think critically was horrified that the children of the Emperor had reached this state. The rest of her met savagery with savagery, and she rejoiced to see the enemy’s advance slowed, then stopped.

I'm sorry for reposting this in a few editions of the thread I'm just seeking some advice before I pick up some new models.

Can I get some advice on my GOTTAGOFAST Orks list? I'm avoiding artillery and slow units, my only footsloggers being Lootas backfield sniping. I've been thinking of cutting the Grots in favor of shoota boyz to ride in the looted Wagons for some heavy dakka and fire distraction as well as point holding.

Orks: Codex (2014) (Combined Arms Detachment) (1500pts)

HQ
Painboy (75pts) [Warbike]
Warboss (135pts) [Gift: Da Lucky Stikk, Power Klaw, Slugga, Warbike]

Elites
Burna Boyz (211pts) [11x Burna Boy]
Trukk [Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram]

Meganobz (155pts) [Boss Meganob w/ Twin-linked Shoota, Meganob w/ Twin-linked Shoota, Meganob w/ Twin-linked Shoota]
Trukk [Rokkit Launcha, Reinforced Ram]

Tankbustas (165pts) [10x Tankbusta]
Trukk [Rokkit Launcha, Reinforced Ram]

Troops
Gretchin (35pts) [10x Gretchin] (Ride with Looted Wagon)
Runtherd [Grabba stik]

Gretchin (35pts) [10x Gretchin] (Ride with Looted Wagon)
Runtherd [Grabba stik]

Fast Attack
Warbikers (305pts) [14x Warbiker]
Warbiker Nob [Power Klaw]

Heavy Support
Lootas (210pts) [15x Loota]

Looted Wagon (WD) (87pts) [3x Big Shoota, Killkannon, Reinforced Ram]

Looted Wagon (WD) (87pts) [3x Big Shoota, Killkannon, Reinforced Ram]

My strategy is to speed upfield in every direction with a different specialized threat towards enemy units. Bikers dakka and charge anything, Meganobz hit the biggest nastiest thing they can find, Burnas mulch infantry, and Tankbustas pop MEQ's and tanks, or MC's based on the army. The Looted Wagons are to provide a (slightly more) armored backline to trail behind the faster trukks and lay down pieplates and big shootas turn after turn to force enemies off of a point or pop light vehicles to open a unit to a charge. Early game I can transport Gretchin in the looted wagon to a quick objective and use them later in the game to pick up a unit whose vehicle got popped.

Hundt described throwing your rapier into an angry crowd.
GĂ©rard Thibault has a spinning rapier play.
Fiore had also a poisonous poleaxe thing.
