Guys I'm working on an idea of a kingdom where necromancy is normal and not considered EEEEVIL. It is of course toned down, life is pretty normal, and it is much integrated to the local culture.
Now, there have been cultures throughout history that have had a more relaxed approach towards death and macabre stuff. I'm looking for stuff I can import, like day of the dead celebrations in Mexico or embalming and mummifying in ancient Egypt.
Now I don't want the place to look like Sylvania or your typical undead place. One idea I have in mind is it for be pretty normal for the peasants and people to send their dead to the army to be raised as skeletons (not zombies, cause smell and plagues). This allows them to forgo military service, for example.
Or having temples of gods of death and undeath pretty normal and have undead be seen more as tools than actual dead people. Going with the Christian belief that the body is just a vessel and taking it to the next level.
Thoughts, ideas?

Fuck off, corpsefucker.
Planescape had the Dustmen faction who used zombies as menial labour and everyone seemed to be cool with it. Of course Planescape is fucked up a bit so might not be what you are looking for.
What's the perfect age range for a sufficiently powerful wizard? Not too young but not too old.
This is all relevant to setting I'm working on with magic largely being determined by knowledge and experience.
>>54761607
Chronologically in his nineties or eighties, but because of his arcane knowledge he can do a thousand little things (like eating a certain vegetable in every meal) to keep his biological age range within the fifties. One of the things that keeps you young when you channel magic powers on a regular basis is no fapping and no sex. Ever.Is it worth it? Would you do it?

Here what Night's Dark Masters says on the matter of Vlad and Vash following Vashanesh dying atbthe hands of Alcadizaar:
>Of Vashanesh, there was no sign. Yet, he did not die and centuries later he was discovered by the Strigoi in his remote fortress in Kislev-then he vanishes from records again...
>Then, two thousand years after the betrayal of Nagash, a figure appeared in Syvlania, calling himself Prince Vladimir von Carstein, and he claimed to be the heir of Vashanesh. For some, the pretence was obvious: this was Vashanesh wearing borrowed robes. Others swore that something was different, something greatly changed from the Vashanesh that they knew.
>For his part, Prince Vladimir never spoke of his past nor used any other name. If he ever was Vashanesh, he was no longer.
So, there you have it. Some people think hes the same guy. Others say he's way too different to be the same guy. No one knows, it's unresolved because resolving shit like that is End Times cancer. Its much better left open, because it allows so much more room for creativity.
I'm enjoying my current Bordelaux game for two reasons:
The undead are actually being worthwhile. Mousilion fell fast, but the Vampire Counts and Vlad are both carving a swath out of the southern and mid-Empire. Somehow the Templehofs are still around, but I doubt that will last for long. I haven't seen them work this well in a good few games.
And I don't know what happened, but the Empire is gone, along with Wissenland. Completely and totally, nothing but ruins. I don't even know what fucked them up, I couldn't see. But Nordland took Marienburg, and now has started expanding down into the ruined territories, taking Altdorf and a few other areas. Ulric's back on the rise, motherfuckers. It's the Empire of the White Wolf now.
Looking for more concept art in this genre especially armored folks.
Bumping with more.
What is /tg/'s opinion on this?

Is there a MtG RPG? If not, what system would you run it with?
I've played the card game, and it's fun, but my favorite part of it is easily the flavor. I don't just want to play some cards, I'd love to be a wizard, hoping from plane to plane, learning powerful spells and drawing energy from the places I visit.
The idea of a plane walking exploration game is just so appealing, surely someone's made a system for it by now?
>>54756675
I was working on a sort of kingdom-building+hex crawler, but gave up years ago.
>>54756675
Every set since BfZ they released a mini-expansion telling you how to play d&d on that plane.
http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/plane-shift-amonkhet-2017-07-05
Here's the one from amonkhet, you can find the rest in the archive
By extension there's not an official rpg as they'll just refer to d&d
>>54756675
Literally any fantasy system, just replace battles with games of MtG?
As for deck building I guess they go around and discover/befriend the creatures to get new cards?

So I have a Grymkin army for Hordes and I'm going to convert them to have a Bloodborne look.
I'm going to take pic related and turn their pumpkin heads into giant masses of eyeballs.
Any other ideas for conversion ideas?
>>54756459
Bloodborne is real hot for trenchcoats, robes, and shades of grey so that would be my advice to add. The Winter Lanterns wore robes if I remember correctly.
Need a cool nickname for my dude. So far all I got is "Hustler" and "Pointman" but they don't really do it for me. Any ideas?

I saw an article about Miss Universe and it got me thinking: How would a beauty pageant in a galactic civilization with multiple sentient species work? Would the victory of a particular individual affect the standards of beauty all across the universe? How would they choose judges that are aware of what makes particular species beautiful?
>>54755813
It depends on how the species look and what their standards of beauty are.
If there's a common ground to stand in and if the species are similar enough, there would be no major issues with it. If the species are wildly different, it just wouldn't work.
>>54755867
What about inner beauty? What if I told you that the brown skinned girl dedicates her free time to helping autistic children?
>>54755867
What if the show is produced and watched by sexual deviants that are capable of finding alien physiology attractive?
What kinds of things have you studied because of table top games that you would never have otherwise learned?
for me, it's been:
>vocal training, so I can do a wide range of characters and not need to specify who's talking to the players.
Geophysics, Cartography, and climatology to produce realistic setting maps
>Elder Futhark to write prop notes as well to decorate other props with.
ethics and philosophy to make convincing motivations for antagonists
Interesting thread. Bump.
>>54755795
Plenty of things for worldbuilding in my experience:
>Ancient written language structures, so I have a good system of homemade ancient runes that make sense.
Lunar calendar systems, because I wanted elves and elf-related species to use a different calendar. (In my system, Elves don't live longer, they just treat every cycle of the moon as a year so they have higher ages).
>Pagan holidays, because I wanted to have interesting events for those calendars that my friends wouldn't be familiar with.
Geophysics, cartography, and climatology for the same reason.
>HEMA, armor design, and castle architecture so I have an understanding of how to reasonably describe combat and battle strategies.
>>54755795
It has been the inverse for me. I always read all kind of stuff way too much, and went autist into lego and drawing. Going into rpg and worldbuilding gave me an use of what I already had. Becoming the loremaster (I'm not the GM) became an even greater motivation to read all kind of stuff in turn. I made up about 80% of the setting by now.
And I really mean all kinds of stuff. The setting has:
>imperial bureaucracy uses around 30.000 seers to find out the worth of your taxes a month from now
>a nation of megatherium herders based on gaucho romanticism
>universal Soldier-esque frankstein-like steampunk cyborgs opress the populace serving a titanic analogic computer
>sea and moon goddess is a giant mermaid whose fins generate the sea currents. She spawns spell pearls and her bellybutton is a maelstrom leading to inseide the moon, which is hollow.
>ley lines are metaphysical links between people which conduct prana and are the basis of the whole Creation. If you have any kind of feelings for someone, you have a ley line connecting you to that person. If that person has feelings for you as well, the ley line goes both ways. This web sustains reality. Love and hate literally move the world.

>repetition muskets
