Would you care to explain what's so great about The Farseer Trilogy? I got through the first two books and can't be bothered to read the third, because I found them to be the most boring, tedious and frustrating books I've ever read.
>>
>>46395853
I enjoy its character-driven focus rather than an emphasis on world-building as you find in some other series. Hobb's world is relatively "vanilla" and "classic", but it's well-executed and serves to facilitate the plot.

Fitz is a fairly well realized protagonist, as are those who surround him---Verity, Burrich, and Chade of course being the standouts. I'm about halfway through Royal Assassins and loving it.

They're also pretty well written; of course, far from the best writing I've ever read, and I have noticed Hobb uses "questing" as a verb a bit much for my tastes, but still, a pretty high caliber for fantasy writing and far better than Sanderson for sure.

I suppose if you don't connect with Fitz or really let yourself get involved with the characters they'll be tedious. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy them anon as I think they're really quite good.

What is your favorite series?

>Shadow Ops by Myke Cole

Reads like american Gate but less retarded and with no haremshit.

In 2000s world gets acces to a magical land with result that some people start developing superpowers.
Obviously Murka sends an exploration team to get all their resources. Kebabistan proclaims that unlawful and starts hunting down fantasy!x-men and Japs finally live out their dream of having toku heroes protecting the tokyo from magical monsters.

Problem comes from fact that it is hard for people that just got their powers to control them so there is a military unit that goes around hunting superpowered assholes and protecting the murkan settlements in the other world from local clans that stole some aks and are know when they are not killing off each other attack humans.

All of this is action packed with surprisingly well developed characters and story that goes into interesting directions.

So, I've decided to buy & build a Baronial Court of three Imperial Knights (size of 3 so that it may serve as either a Household or Oathsworn formation).

What should I pick?
>crusader w/b-cannon
>paladin
>errant

Who should I choose as allies, and which of these two forces should be the "primary" to which the other serves as an allied detachment?

>space wolf anti-tarpit bloodclaw or gh pack +hq
>space wolf iron priest on bike with cyberwolves

A little about me:

Nigga what you need is a Warden, or two. Personally, I would just spam gatling cannons.

Crusaders are 'okay' but you're dumping a lot of points into a 6hp super.

>>
>>46395529
Whenever I run just three knights I tend to field a Warden with stormspear as my Baron (BS5 is huge here) and two paladins with icarus autocannons.
Never fucking ever take the gauntlet, it's a trap.
Crusaders are also nice, but I prefer to have the terrible D to scare off enemies and carve open hard targets where needed. Errants really only come into their own as solo knights in support of another army or dedicated flankers/tankbusters in larger knight armies.

That said, a Baronial Court is neither a Household nor and Oathsworn detatchment, it's its own formation (and, frankly, superior to either) and can thus be allied freely.

Kraken.jpg

In the first session of an upcoming game of 5e, I plan on implementing a Kraken as a means of destroying a ship that a party of level 1 PCs are on. There is no forseeable way to defeat the Kraken, or avoid being knocked out during the destruction of the ship. It is possible to strike the Kracken, and even do damage with magic, but not to serious injure it or stop it from destroying the ship.

I plan on having all the players CHOOSE which two items from their inventory they will discard, and having any character who was actually able to strike the creature gain a small amount of bonus exp. for the encounter.

Would you consider this railroading? This will be the campaign opener, with the characters being the only survivors of the wreck.

Splitting XP awards and making it possible for the party to fall out of sync in leveling is a pretty bad idea. Attempting to separate the party from their possessions will probably also lead to a lot of "but I had everything I own strapped to my person".

In general, however, this setup isn't bad in and of itself. Trying to escape an encounter can make an entertaining encounter in and of itself as barrels fly down and the ship turns sideways. Just remember, the goal of any game is to keep the players engaged and proactive. They have to be allowed to do interesting things like deftly dodging sliding debris or dragging other crew men to safety for them to feel like part of the scene.

The Imperium.

It's not a perfect interpretation of His will, but they're still trying their damndest to carry out what He started. He'd probably be a little pissed about the Ecclessiarchy, but at the end of the day that's a pretty minor thing compared to the continuation of Humanity as a species and a unified government.
>>
>>46394805
I guess the Adeptus Astartes since they still serve humanity and don't see him as a God, for the most part. It's definitely not the Imperium as a whole or the Adeptus Mechanicus since they believe in superstition and are religious zealots. There's no way that any xeno are following the emperors will.

>I have never been in a 40k game (it's not very popular with my friends) but stories always seem to be fun.
I'll start with the Dark Heresy story then, since that's the one that's fresher in my mind. I haven't really played a long-term game of 3.5/Pathfinder in a few years so I'd have to sort things out of half-memory.

The party's six characters run by three people: I play a law-obsessed adept and blank guardsman, one of my housemates plays a socially-focused techpriest and a psyker bard, and another friend plays an assassin who dual-wields powerswords and a grandiose cleric.

We sort of picked up our minions along the way, rather than making any concerted effort to recruit them.

Your name is Lucy Cook.

You're standing in a cave holding a book which lists the crimes you've committed alongside the crimes of someone else who is labelled as "Sissy M."

You aren't picking up very many feelings from Her anymore and the sun is beginning to set.

What do you do?
Hopefully this April Fools thing isn't too much of a problem. I might have to put my "name" at the top of every post.

Fair enough, my apologies. I'll see about giving a recap of the situation... I am fairly new to this, would you recommend I do similar in future posts, or would something else be better?

Yesterday you accidentally killed a guy who was trying to mug you. Since then things have only gone downhill. A strange brand appeared on the back of your left hand, you found that you not only really love to kill people but you're damn good at it, as evidenced by the two dead cops in your apartment, and there's something in the back of your mind making you feel Her feelings.

After killing the cops you ran out of town, because to be honest getting caught would and will not be pleasant in the slightest, and are currently taking refuge in a part of the forest outside of town with no trails leading up to it.

Well, you thought no trails. Nearby, up a stream, you found a trail which leads to a ranger station a mile off though your only attempt to head there was interrupted when you tried to kill a man who you think killed YOU in a dream, and tried to chase him back to your shelter in a fit of rage.

You're having trouble keeping track of things yourself, and trying to put the events of the past day or so in perspective are doing a bit of a number on you.

That's not even getting into the fact that the cave you took shelter in had a grave in it, which is the only thing so far that made Her feel sad, and which you just dug up the previously mentioned book, written in crayon, from with a shovel left by the guy.

...Wait, almost none of those things are true.

"Almost? So one of them is true?"

"...Moeka? Is that you?"

"That's right, Ryouta-kun. I'm glad you've recognized me just by the sound of my angelic voice. It's me, the Shooting Star of Popularity Polls and Shinigami Quest's main heroine, Kirino Moeka!"

"I recognized you not by the sound of your voice, but by the nonsense you're spouting."

"I'll take that as a compliment to the uniqueness of my character."

"You probably shouldn't. So where are we? Why are we standing around in this nondescript white void? Why is there nothing here?"

"We're staying faithful to the source material."

"Ah, I see. And for a minute there, I thought we somehow ended up inside your head. Because it's empty in here, you know?"

"...My, my, aren't you being more than a little snarky today, Ryouta-kun. Are emotions not a prerequisite for sarcastic quips?"

"Apparently not. But please explain what's going on here. If not for me, then for the people that were looking forward to seeing the storyline advance today."

"On April First, for one day only, the world becomes a non-canon meta void of frozen space and time. We can do and say anything we like and it won't reflect on the canon! So I'm planning to dedicate this time of near omnipotence not to understanding the mysteries of the main plotline, but on spending an entire thread making jokes and recapping everything that's happened in the Quest so far."

"This really doesn't need such an intricate explanation. It's the funniest day of the year, and it unfortunately also happens to be Friday, so here we are. Because this is non-canon, I no longer need to remain polite in public. I am free to speak my mind, so I will. Brace yourself, Kirino Moeka."

"That's right. Embrace the lawlessness and lack of restraint. Let your imagination run wild! This is even better than walking around naked! You can do anything!"

"Please keep your clothes on. But if what you're saying is true, then I should be able to turn into a Dragon. Here, let me try..."

"Wow, you actually did it! But I didn't know Dragons were tall, handsome and red haired."

"We're starting off this recap with a joke that not one new reader could possibly understand. Are you sure making you the co-host was a good idea?"

"If we casually spout inside jokes without paying any heed to something like that, they'll feel like they were here from the very beginning, Ryouta-kun."

"...Let's just get this started."

You are Tsukuda Ryouta. At the start of your story, you were a trainee at the Shin'o Academy. In a way, it all began in the Human World, when a Soul Burial practice turned into a live Hollow hunting exercise. You fared about as well as you could - following your training, you went for a blow to the back of the monster's head, and had you had enough proficiency at the time, the impromptu exercise would have been cleared; however, it was not.

In the end, you were saved. A fellow trainee named Ryuu - simply Ryuu, without a family name - stepped in to buy you some time until the Shinigami could take care of the Hollow. They didn't succeed - after dealing three casualties to the ranks of the trainees, the monster escaped. Fortunately, neither you nor your newfound red haired friend were among them.

The Shin'o Academy separates each year's students into several groups. You and Ryuu were both part of Class #2, a class that follows the standard Shinigami training curriculum, while Class #1 uses a special, accelerated program. That difference in training served as a cause for rivalry between the two classes, and it grew bitter enough to force the higher-ups to take action.

Their decision was a tournament. Settling the dispute with a series of everything-goes battles.

Just as fate would have it, you drew the worst lot - your first opponent was the golden haired, cold-eyed prodigy Takenaka Hanae. You weren't expected to win. Even so, you've asked Minami Hikari - one of the Shinigami that was present during the Soul Burial incident - to tutor you and help you improve the odds. Her expertise lied in Kido, so that's what you improved. Your efforts were fruitful, putting you near the top of your class in that particular area.

Hey /tg/, I need help thinking of as many famous shield-users and gun-users from the 19th century and earlier, whether they be mythological, historical or folklore.

I've already combed the wikipedia list of mythological artifacts for shields, now I'm looking for anyone else who has a famous incident of shield use in battle or who is particularly associated with shields.

As for gun users, I'm looking primarily for either women or people who aren't from the Wild West/American Civil War who used guns, or whose gun-associated stories are just ludicrously silly. People like Oda Nobunaga, Ned Kelly, Pecos Bill, etc etc

I know you guys can help, /tg/ seems to know about every combat-related story ever mentioned.

During Caesar battle wih Pompey at Dyrrhachium, a centurion under his command was rewarded for keeping his position during the enemy attack.

All soldiers were wounded, four centurions lost their eyes, a total of thirty thousand arrows were shot at the fort

Marcus Scaeva's scutum had two hundred and thirty projectiles stuck on it. He won 200.000 sesterces for this. Even his cohort won double pay for life for holding the line.
