If you were given the powers, talents and skills of the last character you played at the cost of becoming that character permanently, would you do it? Why, or why not?
For the memory/personality death types, assume that neither memory or personality change, and that any skills or knowledges gained are in addition to the ones you already have.
Hard mode: You also acquire the character's personality.
Pic hopefully unrelated.

...probably not, because he is an absolute dumbass.
But if this change doesn't involve changing my aspect, and not changing my intellect...
Yes, I would: I probably could make some money as the world's strongest man ever.
Even with the hard mode: I would be the most friendly and cheerful person ever, if a bit childish.

Is it just the water that's frozen in time, or is it the entire world and you're the only thing that can move? Because if it's the first the water will act like ice, and if it's the second you'll probably sink into it normally just like how you can move through the air normally despite it being frozen.

How uncommon was literacy during the medieval ages for real? I know monks and priests had to be literate, but how often could noblemen read? How about noblewomen? Were peasants ever literate? Was it worth the effort of putting up signs in areas mostly frequented by peasants?

The 'medieval period' could mean a lot if things OP.

Buy I think most peasants had some degree of literacy, only enough to recognize a few signals like numbers for prices or the symbols that mean royalty, but I honestly don't know. Nobles were typically educated though, so they were likely very literate, especially the girls.
>>
>>46522036
>How uncommon was literacy during the medieval ages for real?
About 5-15% of population depending on region.
>I know monks and priests had to be literate, but how often could noblemen read?
It was not 100% for monks, some tended to more mundane chores. But some of merchants could read and write as well.
>How about noblewomen?
Hahaha, no. I mean, one in a dozen maybe.
>Were peasants ever literate?
Seldom.
>Was it worth the effort of putting up signs in areas mostly frequented by peasants?
Of course, they still had to obey the sign, not being able to read it is no excuse.
>>
>>46522036
Literacy in medieval times (...) didn't just mean telling letters apart and connecting them to sounds. It meant understanding Latin.

How many people understand Latin today? Are the rest of us illiterate? We would be in 1200s France.

It's not like today where people who remain illiterate don't do so for lack of opportunity but because of psychological barriers. There is a stigma attached to illiteracy. This was not so before schools and industrialization. For most it would have been a waste of time. Books were expensive and used for things farmers didn't have to bother with. Writing was for correspondence, and what correspondence did a normal family have to take care of that the priest couldn't do for them much more eloquently?

Of course this is a way to control power. But that's just how we interpret it today. Just ask your parents about smartphones.

I'm a bit bored and thought I'd try my luck at running a little zombie campaign for fun, so I need 4-5 people to pick a character, rolls for attack or perception and such will be made on D100!

Feral - A fast aggressive zombie that balances out nicely

Stalker - A stealthy and mutated zombie that is a glass cannon

Brute - A swollen strong zombie, giant in size but quite stupid

Armoured - A large zombie with bone plates and protrusions on its body for protection

Toxic - A zombie that leaks toxic gas and can compress and emit a large deadly cloud

Puker - A bloated sickly zombie, durable but slow, able to puke heavily acidic vomit

Alpha - A relatively normal zombie but with far heightened intelligence able to notice things easier, can command hordes easier

Mimic - Smart and able to slightly change features and mimic speech

My Kiasyd idea for 2e is "fae-touched" who are Embraced. What Fae Touched means is up to the individual group. Kiasyd treat Iron the way that Changelings in 2e do, and Mythercaria is a series of Merits that gives them Unseen Sense for fairy shit, to see Fate ties, and to make pledges and oaths.

The Maiden's Blood Sisterhood. I'd change it from a cringe-worthy attempt at stronk womyn feminism into what it -should- have been; an informal network of fraternity and sorority members who look out for one another and protect college campuses. Call it like the Black Door Society and have it be as simple as you go to any frat or sorority house and if you have a problem with something 'weird' you look for the room with the black door, because you'll always find help from the people behind it.

What are some unique things aboout your setting's races?

In my setting, the dwarves worship their ancestors. One of the biggest parts of their religion is to respect the dead and to leave them to their rest, so necromancers, zombies, and Liches are abhorred as a sin against nature.

Hey /tg/,

So one of my players just quit the campaign.

Long story short, he spent literally 3 weeks trying to min max his character, played his first session and was OP af.

Later on he spent a week thinking his character progression and came across some rules.

That's when he realized that he "made mistakes" on character creation.

Frustrated, he quit the campaign and left the group.

What's your experience with this kind of players? Are RPGs just a "numbers" game to any of you (or anyone you know)?

That is some petty shit to get rage quit over. A least the problem got rid of itself rather than needing outside intervention.
>>
We had a guy who came in with a character optimised for sneak attack damage. It didn't even start to work until level 13.

On the first round of the first fight that character got into, DM killed him in one hit with a barbarian / fighter town watch captain.

Then the DM kept throwing monsters with improved grapple at us. The rest of the party could handle those just barely because we were more balanced, but the sneak attacker pretty much spent all fights being grappled and unable to do anything. He eventually got sick of it and rerolled another one trick pony, but this time he spent a feat to counter grapple. DM then countered him again using things that attacked his weak areas.

Many rounds of this and many characters later, the optimizer had a character's who was "min-maxed" to counter all the different kinds of threat DM has been throwing his way. He now had no obvious weakness and many different options in a fight. At this point the DM said to him:

>"Guess what anon, you've optimised yourself into a well rounded character. You've become what you've always hated"
>>
>>46516770
Depends on the game.
In something like 3.5/PF I'd be hard-pressed not to min-max.
Guess it depends on whether I feel that the system punishes me if I don't min-max.

But yeah, good riddance.

>As per a suggestion on the Suggestions Doc, races are now getting several more Racial Traits, with players being able to choose from two.
>Some Skills are getting axed or repurposed to cut down on redundancies

I'm also reformatting the PDF to be better suited for a limited-run physical printing. However, I want to be sure that the game is actually more polished and more complete. I don't have an exact timetable for a release (per the usual) but ideally I'd have a physical copy in hand for Momocon (late May). Even if it's an updated version of the old-as-hell v0.3 that I have in a binder.

>Combat overhaul? What's that?

Well a while back we kinda' decided that it was time to abandon a raw Damage to HP form of indicating that damage was done, since that just doesn't suit the narrative of Dragon Ball and was kind of a pain to balance for.

So somebody suggested that we look at a game like Legends of the Wulin to get an idea for how we could implement a system where damage dealt doesn't necessarily directly correlate to health lost. So now we've got a system where for every 5 Damage done to an opponent, that opponent adds 1 DC to a test to soak the damage. Soak tests are STR + TOU, and can be increased with armor or by blocking. The net failures of the soak test result in "Damage Effects" rather than health lost, which are effectively narrative injuries backed up mechanically by fatigue or other status effects.

We're planning on having a bunch of sample damage effects (that lack hard math, meaning that they'll be functional this time around), ranging from "You're hit hard enough to be winded, but not so much that you've taken lasting damage. Increase Fatigue by 1," to "The blow finds purchase and you hear a sickening 'crack' as the wind exits your lungs. If you were hit by a Called Shot, that limb is now broken. If the called shot was to the head, you are unconscious for [an indeterminate length of time]. If you weren't hit by a called shot, your now have several broken ribs. Increase Fatigue by 2 and you may not move next turn."

Ki will get a different set of damage effects just so we can have "You emerge from a cloud of dust completely unscathed," and "You struggle to survive, but you never stood a chance. You feel an overwhelming burning sensation, which gives way to a total numbness as your nerve endings are completely seared beyond repair. Panic sets in as you see your limbs turn to ash and break away from your body. If you wish, you may let out a single, short exclamation before your torso is evaporated."

In addition to the damage mechanic replacement, there's also various revisions being done to various combat actions.

-Block is being changed from a Full Round Action to a Reaction that players use to add to their soak pool.
-Reactions are being revised to allow for a reaction per attack rather than per round
-Afterimage is being revised to something that occurs after a high enough number of net successes to dodge is met (ie: if you get at least three net successes to dodge you leave an afterimage that confuses the opponent, who may make a relevant test to immediately acquire the target (Sense Ki, Perception, Search, ect) or otherwise reacquire the target at the top of the round.
-Special Combat Maneuvers are being added to allow for more depth in combat. These include acts such as:
>Called Shot (how was this not there?)
>Feint (Revised): On a successful Deception test vs the target's Perception you may remove a number of dice from their reaction by the number of net successes, and add those to your own attack.
>Knockback Attack: A punch or blow of some kind that results in the target being pushed back by a number of meters equal to 10 meters per success. The target may make a Fly test with a DC equal to the successes the attacker made to hit. If they fail the target loses their next move action readjusting.
