Saving your valiant effort.

Anyway, probably either the elf sniper build or the elf martial artist/edgemaster build.
>>
>>46562152
I've never played fantasycraft but I want to because it looks a bit less restrictive and crunchy than DnD/PF and I'd play a Paladin.

Or a commander class (forget its name right now) and go into Paladin at 5 which is how I understand it works. Be martially focussed and use a massive shield to protect the weak and meek.
>>
>>46563930
Yeah, Paladin is an Expert class, so you can take it starting from level 5 if you meet the prereqs.

Captain is a good intro into Paladin, as is Priest or Crusader depending on your style. (Priest and Crusader have the benefit of access to Paths, which lets them pick up Bandage from the first step in the Path of Life rather than needing to spend a feat on it)

Well, you see, Anon, a Paladin of Love is a mysterious being. He'll make one soul weep, and bring another man to sing. He can change a fierce falcon into a gentle turtledove. He's more than mere warrior, Anon - he's a Paladin of Love.

He won't seek money, doesn't quest for fame; and it's not for his own credit that he'll work and train. His calling is hard, and it's cruel sometimes, but he's in it to save your life.

That's a Paladin of Love.

Alright, so last session my assassin got a contract to kill a nobleman: he disguised himself as a butler, killed the target by hitting him with a pretty heavy iron rod and then let the body fall from the balcony of the room, disguising his death as an accident pretty convincingly.

Does /tg/ have any more stories about successful assassinations? Funny assassinations? Epic fails, perhaps?

I had a character once who was the owner of a brothel aimed at the rich and the influential. He was a girly, cowardly pretty boy who nobody took seriously.

He would kill his targets by poisoning them by inches and then being far away when they died three months later when their liver no longer worked.

I know where it is, it's a city called Felindal in a small kingdom named Dallen in a continent where only a few small kingdoms and fiefdoms still exist after this big magical cataclysm a century ago. I would've gone into more detail but I didn't think /tg/ would care.

So I will soon join a DND 5e campaign and was planing on playing a ranger. Since I am new to DND 5e and mostly played pathfinder before I would need some recommendations on subclasses or alternatives.

What strong ranger like classes does 5e offer?
19 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>46560819
Well, the Hunter archetype does reasonably well for most of the game, but if your just looking for "really good, outdoorsy archer man" Battlemaster Fighter with the Outlander background is nearly as good as a ranger at what the ranger does best, and is far far superior mechanically.
>>
>>46560819
>What strong ranger like classes does 5e offer?
Well... Ranger, I guess.
If you're just looking for the shooty longbow action then fighters are a better choice in terms of raw damage output.
>>
So if I choose the Hunter archetype would it make sense to take levels in fighter or rogue?

More a 'settings' question than a games question, but here seems like the right place to ask:

So /tg/, I have a crippling phobia of adult Periplaneta americana and keep a can of Raid on hand just in case.

Today I had to relight the pilot on my water heater which required me to open that too-long sealed infernal gateway to the WH closet and descend into the stronghold of The Roach King and his damnable horde of disgusting minions.

After employing enough bug bombs to constitute a minor war crime, I started Shop-Vaccing up the desiccated arthropodic corpses of my hated enemies. Their vile, impotent husks were empty of the evil of their existence, but my hate for them burned still. I reflected on their mass extinction from my turf. This is how I dealt with inhuman, vile things daring to exist in spite of my most strenuous objection. Would not this be how most people would deal with unwanted life?

I mean, WE don't use Biochemical warfare on eachother because we did that whole World War 1 thing and learned it's slightly too hellish even for war. But there's nothing stopping us from employing it on equally threatening or hated aliens or enemies when the chips are down and the cameras aren't watching.

So why don't we see more BioWeapons in more Science Fiction? XCOM cats are plugging chryssalids with bullets when we've dissected a living sample and could probably figure out what cocktail of air or liquid would rot it from the inside out.

It makes sense not to use them in some settings. Picard can't very well prattle on about how awesome the Federation is if he virus-bombs Romulus and Remus back to primordial soup. But why doesn't Cdr Shepherd agent orange the Reapers, or why wouldn't Haldeman's characters employ apocalyptic chemical attacks against the Taurans.

IS there a setting where humans make liberal use of nerve-destroying chems to win their wars?

Just something that crossed my mind.

>>
Gas not so much, but plenty of sci-fi settings have bioweapons. Although in sci-fi context this doesn't mean bacteria or viruses, but rather living creatures made for war. Usually they end up not working and turning on their masters though.

((Pic somewhat related))

This is a thread about a character that you dreaded when the concept was pitched, or you first heard about, but as the campaign went on, the character surprised you.

The pic is related, because this character was basically Maizono: a J-Pop idol.

It was a Shadowrun campaign, and our group needed a face after the last one fell out of a Skyscraper window. (Another story for another time.) The player pitched a character that was essentially "A disgraced J-Pop Idol, who is still pretty famous despite the scandal, and wants revenge on those who wronged her. She went to the Shadows. She has an upbeat personality, and still retains her charm that made her an idol in the first place." At first, I was like 'ugh. A That Guy character.', but then, as we got deeper in the campaign, she actually became a great and necessary team member, and I began to like her more and more. The character was generally surprising and well written.

So, what are your stories of characters that surprised you, /tg/?

Player was apparently a known furry and was damn insistent on filling out the animal theme as much as possible. To the point of "Hey, did you notice I'm a cat-person?".

Post character creation he actually turned into one of my best players. He took it upon himself to learn the rules and explore build options in a healthy way. Also the guy had a knack for improv so it was great to see him roleplay.

Made him a permanent member of the group and he digs it so long as I let him play furry in the settings, with the provision that NPCs will react normally and not just casually ignore a cat-person in a human only setting.

So I've been meaning to make a really simple, text-based game of some kind for a while, combining CYOA elements and stats. But for the life of me I can't settle on something permanently. I've waffled between high-combat focus, low-combat focus, complete CYOA focus, different settings, etc. I've done prototypes for a bunch of different ones, but keep hitting that wall of "is this really the right thing" when I start to commit.

So I guess this is me crowdsourcing my indecision. If you're the kind of faggot who would play a text-based or text-based + static images RPG/game in 2016, what would you want to see in it?

(By the way, I'm doing this purely for fun. No economic/financial interest involved, I just like writing and systems in my spare time, and making a little game out of that seems more productive than running quests or whatever.)

Sounds to me like you realize that this is going to be a bunch of work for free and you don't want to do it.

I want a game about princesses. I don't care if it is in space or in the deserts of not-sahara. I don't care if the goal is combat or political maneuvering. I don't even care if you can be a prince too. I just want to be the princess.

Nah, it's more like there's lots of stuff I could enjoy writing, but I at least want to have the false confidence that there is a limited audience of at least 2 other faggots in the world who would bother playing it.

I realize that it ultimately doesn't matter since I am doing it for fun, but it still helps as a motivational factor. Plus, it's just fun to see what other people like as a brainstorming practice.

Hey /tg/, I was thinking of doing some things with a few Outer Gods and Great Old Ones. I'd like to try to get the best ones with the ability to think. Right now I got Nyarly, Hastur and Yog-Sothoth.

Some of it would involve slight character changes.

The idea is a campaign to establish that the Universe being cold and uncaring for even Eldritch Abominations. But do not fear, Nyarly will still be a prick.

>Universe

Couple things in order Anon.

>The Outer Gods are not universal, they are mutliversal/omniversal and infinite

>Nyarlathotep is actually one of the most powerful of the Outer God after Yog-Sothoth and Azathoth, and in that order. As Nyarlathotep is an aspect of Azathoth.

>While the universe does not care about the Great Old Ones and the various lesser eldritch spawn due to being so far removed from the gods themselves, the universe absolutely cares about the duo Yog-Sothoth (who is beyond all and yet is all) and Azathoth.

Actually, the best way to think of Yog-Sothoth in your game of Yog-Sothoth is an apathetic catholic version of Yahweh or Krishna. All powerful, but unaligned and generally uninterested because he's omnipresent and everything is lesser than him. To catch his attention offers IMMENSE power, but also at the cost of sanity/reality given it's literally all of existence deciding to focus on your existence.

Nyarlathotep you seem down pat though. He's the trickster asshole cunt god who is like an invincible version of Loki. He is also fated to destroy Earth and all of humanity, but until that unknown time he trolls and tortures humans for fun.
>>
I have a hard time imagining Nyarly being caught out by the universe hating him, since the universe is his dad.
You do have to wonder what a Blind Idiot God gains from having someone who does nothing but interfere with things all day, though.
I think the problem you would run into would be that Outer Gods and the like don't really care that they're not cared for. Most of them would be 'in the know' and just exist to carry out their function, although comparing them to parts of a greater machine would be simplifying things.
Making them care means that they're vulnerable to conventional, human thought. Unless you WANT to destroy them with the Power of Friendship, I'd think long and hard about what exactly you want to do with all this.
>>46557822
Hinduism would be a good place to start actually, though rather than Krishna I'd suggest you look at concepts like the Trimurti, Harihara, Brahman and Indra's Net. Maybe I just have an anti-Krishna bias.
Their cosmology is vast, in a word. Would be a good place to gain inspiration from outside of Lovecraftian sources.

Would also recommend reading Gods of Pegana, I'd say that's approaching "the universe just doesn't give a shit about any of its agents" and was written by one of Lovecraft's own inspirations.
>>
>>46558101
I actually always wondered if Lovecraft was partly inspired by Hindu mythology, it seems unlikely given how little cultural exposure he would have had but still.

Also Azathoth is the personification of the big bang, he is not a sentient creature but rather a mass of primordial chaos creating and destroying to no goals or logic, kind of hard to see him being worried.

Hastur is a psychic being (as in has no physical form) and is the embodiment of death, decay and despair. So long as those concepts exist in the multiverse, he will continue existing and spreading them, same problem as wit Azathoth.

Lastly Yog-Soggoth/Sothoth is usually considered to be the space-time continuum. He perceives all possible universes and all pasts and presents simultaneously and can re-arrange and mess with them as he likes. Once again very little is likely to phase him.

Nyarlathotep is slightly different in being the most 'human' of these beings. There are a few theories about this, my personal favorite is the idea that cultists who try and contact Azathoth cannot comprehend the vast chaos if his being and so they reconcile it into something they can understand by projecting human qualities (like malevolence) onto it. As the mask of Nyarlathotep was used more frequently and his 'identity' became more established the psychic energy being used in the communications eventually caused him to gain a life of his own. Arguably he is the only being that may have a sense of self-preservation but there aren't many things dangerous enough to make it an issue.

How do I convincingly play my ork falling to chaos?

Rogue trader turned black crusade. Crew consists of

1)Super heretikal genetor (de facto captain)
2)Super mutated rogue navigator (party face and devil on our shoulder)
3)Super powerful Tzeentchian sorceror (probably behind the navigator)
4) oversized ork Kommando who sort of fits the bill for a champion of chaos undivided.
- incredible warrior, turns into a blender around enemies. Stronk and fearless.
- dedicated to achieving stealthy perfection. His art, his passion. (Ork Kommando)
- lives in filth, doesn't care about disease or mortality, just about staying with his boys and his boss. Has been exploded half a dozen times and dismembered twice as often as that so far. Disgustingly, brutally tough.
- Tzeentch I dunno. He doesn't have a whole lot of just as planned, unless he was a cats paw for a higher ranked sorceror (cough) I do t see how he could swing this.

Also dual wielding a daemon weapon of slaanesh, khorne, and wearing armour made of a nurglish blessed swamp slug. (40m long, 7m wide slug called "death" on its death world)

Thoughts? Pic probably not related.

From what I've seen in the fluff, Orks are generally immune from chaos corruption from a mixture of both the ork race's version of the hivemind which keeps the race more or less of the same mindset and the fact that most orks don't know or care about the actual concept of chaos. But it does happen, but I've only seen it in full on warbands in the fluff. I'd say your boy would need to realize that the gits he's with are weird and probably should get some good ol' insanity melting direct exposure to the warp.
