“Winona.” You button up the jacket on your fresh uniform pulled forom the closet. It’s 5:30 AM Sharp, you’ve already had a light breakfast, had a shower, and you’re ready to start your day. Unlike, Winona, who’s busy moping and curling beneath her blankets. “Winona, it’s 5:30.”

“I have the day off,” she whines quietly. “I told you last night.”

Oh. Right. Funny the things you forget when you go to sleep.

“Still, early starts are the best starts,” you say proudly. You gently pat your hands on the side of her top bunk. “You get more time in the day, you’re less groggy and tired.”

“Mmmmmmeh.” That’s not even a word. She holds up her hand weakly, pointing to the closet. “Could you get my bathing suit out of the closet?”

“No,” you say. “I’m your superior, not your butler.” She groans, throwing her pillow over her head. You sigh.

Alright, you guess you aren’t convincing Winona to get up on her day off. You pull up your Officer’s Pad. What good jobs do you have today?

The massive shark surges through the water toward you. Pitiless black eyes are locked onto you, a mouth full of sword-sized razors yawning wide to shred your body and soul into so much chum. All around you, you can feel the beast's preternatural influence. The water you dwell in molds to its will, currents of sweeping force and walls of solid water hedging you in to a trap, a funnel designed to send you on a one-way trip into the bowels of that bloodied abyss. The scale-tags at its belly glow bright with the exertion. The whorls of crimson that edge its fins shine with the light of refined murder. The predator is complete in its elegant brutality, a beast of unrelenting consumption.

Would that you could take a moment to appreciate the artistry of the moment.

Instead your spear jerks you upward, helping you to navigate between the plates of unseen force that superimpose themselves into your path. The entity housed within, a faceless monstrosity of enmity and fury, has a vested interest in seeing you safely through this trial. The tail you have molded for yourself from tides of cerulean power flexes in hypnotic rhythm. The ocean floor retreats beneath you even as the shark looms.

You climb.

The spirit has a vested interest in seeing you through this trial, and you know you can use that to your advantage. Your brief moments of bonding and understanding in a world within has somewhat eased the chains of law that bind him from you, and you from him. Already brass filaments wind their way down the shaft of the spear into your flesh. It won't be enough. Even your heightened reflexes cannot make up the difference in raw strength between your fragile, oxygen-dependent body and a shark the size of the raising house. For all your tricks and manifestations there is a gap in true strength that cannot be bridged by dexterity alone. And so, you reach out.

You invite.

There is a resonating sense of satisfaction in the White Claw as you call for more power. Threads of quicksilver wind their way down the brass filaments, seeping into your flesh. You can feel the gears and cogs churning beneath the surface of your skin accelerate their revolutions. Flywheels spin out of their housing. A crackling energy, an exaggerated burning of the soul, rises from deep within you.

You erupt.

The water around you churns as pointed gears bulge beneath the surface of your flesh. The currents nudged into being by the beast's natural power are subverted by an outpouring of raw spiritual puissance, a wave of ego and presence that momentarily reverses the world around you. Your flesh splits, segments, then heals whole once more. The delicate circuitry of Wrath woven into your flesh bulges and expands. You watch as the gaps in your hardened flesh fill with liquid brass and hazy mercury. The water around you churns, a burgeoning maelstrom born of a long-imprisoned spirit's chance to finally stretch his wings.

In your grasp, your spear has become an unrecognizable instrument of destruction. The simple wood and iron of the ancestral spear have ceded way to a brass imitation. Spinning teeth of pure silver essence edge the tines of each trident prong. The instrument roars to life alongside the bellow of your spirit.

The gifts of Modi Magni compound unto themselves.

> [Modi Transformation Lv. 2: Body of War. Significantly boosts Osyki's strength and endurance. All mundane weapons are refined into ornate tools of war. Greatly boosts mobility.]

Veneni flickers into your grasp without a second throught. You spiral down, smashing through the plates which previously stymied you. The jagged, broken edges of those plates skitter off of your hardened skin. Your arm plunges down through the water, sinking Veneni deep into the flesh at the base of the Shark's dorsal fin.

>Introduction:

OK, stay calm, control your breathing in 10 easy steps. You can get through this. Breathe in... Breathe out. Lather, rinse, repeat. Think of good thoughts. Happy thoughts. That time you won your only Judo tournament despite having to argue with refs over how much you were bleeding; Watching the last few years of Formula 1 cars blasting down the streets of Adelaide with your dad when you a little kid; Your first bar-room brawl of a fight with that rugby team after you had started to take up Judo courses; Going out with your parents to have nightly picnics in the Australian Outback and watching the stars; Listening to your mom tell you old Aboriginal bed-time stories about magical places like "DreamTime"...

Yeah... Nah, it's not working. Not when you see two things you very specifically DIDN'T bring with you, sitting on the two stuffed animals that you always thought were supposed to ward off freaky shit like this.

You are Katja Hartkern. Even though there might be other people out there with the same name, that's your name and you're sticking with it. A bigger concern is less than 4 hours after packing up and leaving your cabin out in the woods so an "Exorcist" can cleanse your house from all kinds of recent, spiritually-heinous activity, two artifacts you left behind (A Black Top-Hat and a White Mask) followed you back to your hotel room.

Man, today is just not your day. Especially after "Seeing Red" and nearly breaking that one girl's arm at The Pao Pao cafe...

>A. Leave the hotel. It's not safe to stay here any longer.

>B. Hop on FightChan and see if that "/x/pert" has a thread up. Following his(?) advice worked last time.

You are Captain Kusajishi Riku, and right now is officially relaxation time. Your subordinates have orders to stop certain loud Lieutenants and their zanpakuto at the gate, and they know not to disturb you with paperwork until you actually put in an appearance in your office. For the time being at least it's possible to unwind from a long series of brutal engagements that have left you feeling exhausted and sore all over.

Outside you can see that unseasonable clouds have gathered in the sky, and a light rain has begun to fall on the Seireitei as you pick out an absentminded melody on your guitar's strings.

“That's odd, there wasn't supposed to be rain today.”

Yoruichi sets aside a mostly-empty cup of lukewarm coffee, looking up from the newspaper she's been reading to look out the window. “Raijūsenkō caused it.”

That's actually a little scary when you stop and think about it, that the release of electricity was so powerful it changed the weather entirely by accident. These days it seems your wife is getting to be less of a fighter, and more of a literal force of nature. Certainly it means that her opponent was impressive to survive without releasing his zanpakuto, even if according to Yoruichi he got his ass kicked.

As the rain falls more steadily your mind begins to turn involuntarily towards the ongoing crisis facing the Seireitei. If Aizen were to make his final move today, how would you counter him without even being able to use shikai? Could your subordinates and allies face arrancar and Sternritter under the same circumstances? The more you weigh the odds the longer each dulcet tone you strike seems to hang, as you reach the conclusion that such a scenario would be an unmitigated disaster.

“Something has to be done immediately,” you resolve, the melody from your guitar's strings coming to an abrupt halt. “But what?”

Yoruichi sets aside the newspaper entirely. “Yamamoto's faced this zanpakuto before. Records say he had a way to counter its effect but don't go into detail, so we'd have to ask him directly.”

“You sure none of the other old hands would know, like Unohana or Shunsui?” Speaking of whom, it seems like Shunsui is on the move at this very moment. Yoruichi seems to notice it as well, taking a moment before responding to your question.

Your wife eventually shakes her head. “The Head Captain and Ginrei were the two who sealed Muramasa's wielder, so they're the only two who ever knew the trick.”

That'd be a great lead were it not for the fact that one of the witnesses is long dead and the other is missing without a trace, probably having been attacked by the very enemy you want to ask him about. You'd likely have to fight off Muramasa and his band of brainwashed zanpakuto to get to the Head Captain, and if you won that fight who knows if you'd even need to ask the question... too many caveats and what-ifs to that situation to think about resolving it right now.

>We should try and find Yamamoto first, resolve that situation before dealing with Muramasa.
>Perhaps we could pre-empt Muramasa somehow? Draw him out and crush him personally?
>If we could find Muramasa's base of operations we could force a massive confrontation.
>Maybe Shunsui knows something we don't? He's on his way here right now, too.

After taking several small towns, occupying them and quarantining them in order to establish a foothold without giving away your position, you find yourself standing before a large wooden table, upon which is splayed the most accurate map of the Hielon territories you could find. Much of the layout of the snowy country is suggested, and you have no maps of the larger cities, but with this chart you can make out strategic points and the general location and distance between settlements.

The Hellraisers, ever dutiful, are busy keeping your forces from succumbing to the cold, since the banning of pants forces them to make due with less insulated means of dress. You've permitted the acquisition by force of hide cloaks and gloves, but the groans of icy thighs are almost loud enough to alert the enemy from thirty kilometers.

Meanwhile, your advisors are busy either organizing the men, or manning the equipment. The only person available to aid you in your research is Kyle, who is less than experienced in warfare. His most helpful suggestion so far has been to raid pantries for supplies as you march.

Now, you are mulling over the options of either force marching further east, toward the capitol, or west, to gain more land before the final sacking.

You're GMing but you feel lazy today and just want something new for the players to beat up. This (fantasy) setting includes evil animal people for explicitly this reason. They're dumb, they're mean, they can use weapons, and they have quirky special abilities matching whatever specific animal they're based on today.

What are the best animals to use?

41 posts and 10 images submitted.

Rerolls are just about everyone's favorite mechanic. They turn potential failures into successes, and serve to counter the inevitable stroke of bad luck that's waiting to happen.

The other mechanic I really like is being able to assist other players. Helping yourself is great, but abilities that grant other people bonuses, especially as reactions or at instant speed, tend to be my favorites.

The obvious combination are specialized "fate points" or actions that enable a player to assist another player and provide them a reroll. Something like if a player fails to dodge a fireball, another player can step in and make some sort of sacrifice (an arbitrary point, an action, taking the damage instead, etc.) to give that player a second chance.

Spin the Bottle and Charades

Counterspells and rogue skills.

In the fighter-mage-thief trinity, the fighter should outfight the thief, the mage should blast apart the fighter, and the rogue should have a large advantage against the mage.

So, they should have several different ways to just tell a mage "no." Like throwing a dagger or flashbang to distract them, or some other use of their speed. And, there's nothing quite as dickish as a counterspell, so it fits thieves perfectly.

Forcing mages to avoid being within 20ft of a rogue or risk having their spell disrupted also puts another layer of considerations they have to make, aside from "hide behind the fighter".

Heya /tg/! I come bearing another idea for an Evo Game.

Rules (yes I know, they're copypasted from the Crystals Evo Game):
>Open an existing creature in paint or whatever and give it one evolutionary adjustment at the time
>don't forget to +1 the generation on the top right corner
>describe adjustment and upload new image
>every once in a while the environment will shake things up, some creatures will go extinct

>No silly stuff, those won't become cannon
>No creating new species out of thin air
>No 'catching up' and doing a bunch of evo's by yourself, every creature should go through multiple steps by multiple people
>Evolutions shouldn't be to drastic, but you shouldn't bitch about other players 'not being realistic' either
>Any one evolution can't 'jump' their habitat up more than one level, and even then it's an extraordinary kind of event. Going down, though, is much easier - at least until you go below the waterline. Then you get the restriction again.

And here's The Pit's environment. A vertical cylindrical shaft with a diameter of 14,000 km and 100,000 km deep, divided into 10 levels.
Our starter creatures start out at the boundary between the 3rd Level and the 4th.

Next, the description of the starter creatures.
