FAQ:
>What the fuck is this?
Somewhat a campaign of crack-infused free-form roleplay in the grim darkness of the far future.

>When do you guys make these threads?
Usually mondays at 2PM GMT, but they sometimes extend to Tuesdays if we got caught in the middle of something when the thread died and it was too late to make another one the same day.

>Can I join in?
Sure, just think of a character and have fun, you can find most info in 1d4chan albeit it's ussually a little bit out of date in comparison to where the threads are.

>Is there any requirement in character creation.
Not really, we've had Xeno infiltrators, Chaos infiltrators, Villains, Heroes, Normal Guardsmen, Crazed Guardsmen, Assassins, Psykers, Space Marines, Inquisitors, Squats... just think whathever and join the fun.

>Is it allowed to have more than a single character?
Yes as long as you don't use it to powerplay.

>So how you guys do the playan'?
We tend to use spoilers for OOC chat, but nothing is set in stone.
We tend to use greentexts for describing a character's actions, but again nothing is set in stone.
Use d20s for combat checks and d100s for other things you want to roll, higher Is better.
It's important to know that the regiment is now in the employ of a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, with influence from an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and under the watch of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Yes we've been through a lot of shit.

If each d6 has a 3/6 chance of producing a +1 and a 1/6 chance of producing a -1, how do I calculate the chances of rolling a total value of at least +1 if I roll 2d6, 3d6, 4d6, 5d6 or 6d6?

Have clones ever been a part of your campaign?

Why would a clone be inclined to kill the original?
17 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>46607709
Watch any movie with clones in it like The Island or Star Trek Nemesis. There could be a law or the clone's expiration date that will urge it to kill the original.

Sometimes it's pride, sometimes it's an alibi or it's paranoia.
>>
>>46607709

Maybe the clone thinks it's the original. Or wants to be.

I played a magical girl game once where a player had a marionette power (basically made a copy of themselves that they controlled like a puppet.).

As the game went on and the stresses of magic and life-or-death monster battles went on, the ability began to "mutate"... the character's mind began to shatter, and pieces of her personality went into the marionettes. At first this would just show up with them manifesting with slight differences from the original. Different hair color, eyes, even gender on time.

Then one day, they gained enough sentience to avoid being dispelled and re-absorbed... and had this idea that if they could kill another magical girl (not necessarily the original only, so they were a threat to the whole party) that they could somehow absorb their souls and become "real". They ended up becoming the final BBEGs of the campaign.

Sup /tg/, ever played a game where the party's power levels were all over the place? How'd it work out?

Did the weaker party members find their own ways to be helpful or was it just one or two guys carrying the team?

How would you make a campaign where certain player characters are weaker than others by design?

>Did the weaker party members find their own ways to be helpful or was it just one or two guys carrying the team?
Yes.

How would you make a campaign where certain player characters are weaker than others by design?
Make a campaign where Combat isn't always the best, or even a viable, option for resolving conflict.

True story, whenever I play wizards in DnD/Pathfinder, despite how broken they are in such systems, I always play a character who's alot weaker than the rest of the rest of the party, even the melee fighters. I'm useful because those melee fighters are smashing things with a magic lightning hammer that *I* made. I'm useful because when we're fighting a monster nobody has ever seen before, I'm the one who researches it's weaknesses. I'm useful because, even though I can't take much of a hit or put out much damage, I know what to do and say to make sure everyone else can take a ton of hits and put out a ton of damage.

Of course, support-mage isn't the only option for weak characters being helpful. I've also been involved in all-thief games and Shadowrun-esque things where stealth or charisma or skills with certain types of technology are just as important as combat... where combat still has it's uses, sure... but it's something that has to be used and planned around carefully. If you have a guy that's a walking armory, for example, it's easy to overwhelm half-trained security guards at a museum, but you're going to have 5 minutes tops to finish up your heist and get out before the SWAT team shows up... maybe 10 minutes if your tech guy can delay the security systems.

So yeah, it's easy to do... just make combat not always be an option for resolving conflicts on it's own.

Current game we're playing, there's another race in the setting besides humans, which is incomparably stronger than them. As in like, not even a hundred humans could defeat one. It kind-of poorly balances out though because the other race seem really poorly adjusted to average tasks and living, so us human characters ended up being skill monkeys and have a general competency as well as much better socially. There are still cased where there's a massive imbalance like in fights (which have proven to be extremely lethal) and my character for example always just runs away. The DM though has done a really nice job of mixing gameplay up to have lots of things like puzzles and problems that require clever or quick thinking and skills, which is similarly unbalanced against the other race in our favor. Overall it's kind of janky and takes getting used to, but has proven to be quite interesting and fun, and great for role playing.

Any GURPS game. Particularly superheroes.

You always have a dude who just makes Hawkeye and another dude who is practically invulnerable to physical harm and shoots laser beams out of his eyes that melt tanks.

GURPS is the best.

If you sell your soul to a demon, what's to stop you from asking for your soul for what you want?
50 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
I'm confused with the question. Do you mean a tradeback? You sell your soul for rad instrument shreddage, and then request to give the rad instrument shreddage back for soul? If that's the case, I'm sure you could ask, whether or not he'd agree to it is up to the demon.

Lately I got the feeling I should probably just sell most of the stuff I collected over the years, because I'll never get around to do anything with it anyway.
Add to that, that with WHFB gone and 40k going in a direction I don't care about I any longer I really don't feel like I'm getting anything out of it.

Anybody else gets these old tomcat feelings from time to time? Like you just want to give up and walk away?
Any of you guys ever quit hobbies like that? Did you regret it or were you happier for it?

Terminator Librarian. I forgot about theses guys.

Have a huge army of old metals, space marines pre-fall thousand sons.

Once tried playing at a games workshop shop with them only to be asked if they were fakes because they look so different from the current editions.

I had to show him online the original models.
>>
>>46607055
Really, OP, it depends on your community more than anything else.
I've played 40k off and on for 20 some years. I quit playing for a handful of years after 4e came out and, to me, everything I enjoyed was butchered even worse than 2e->3e.
However, at the tail end of 4e and going into 5e, I found a shop that had a strong mix of crowds, some vets like me and people who had the same mindset when it comes to 40k as I do.
I don't need to worry about someone spamming jetbike Eldar in my shop, just like they don't need to worry about me rolling in grav cheese. The people who don't toe the community line are shown what is expected of everyone, and if they don't modify their behavior, are turned away.
Find the right place for you, OP. Don't trash years of good times and investment because some people don't walk to the same beat you do. The fun people are out there, if you go find them.
Good luck and godspeed, anon.

Hey /tg/, been playing 40K for about half a year now and I've always played my Space Marines as Imperial Fists. I'm curious about what you guys think of their Chapter Tactics?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>46607001
Easily one of the upper half of chapter tactics, Bolter drill helps almost every unit that has chapter tactics. Plus Tank Hunters for devs which is amazing.
>>
>>46607001
Your doing the Emperor's work anon, that is all that matters.

Bolter Drill is baller, just like everything from that chapter. My best mate has been playing Lysander since literally 4th and takes a 4 Heavy bolter squad of devs and a bunker these days, no matter the matchup. Its surprising just how effective those Heavy Bolters are, always underestimated. And Lysander is a badass no matter what.
>>
HAH I LAUGH AT YOUR QUESTION

We of the Iron Warriors are clearly more superior than you loyalist dogs

Has the Fists fallen so low that they feel self conscious about their tactics?

Pitiful...

By some time travel fuckery, you anon, have been transported back in time to the start of the Horus Heresy book series by the Black Library in the early oughts. By some witchcraft you are employed by the Black Library to select the authors for this series about to be embarked on, for higher quality, consistent novels lacking the character assassination done by most of the BL's normal writers.

By some magical powers, any author you contact will agree to this new version of the HH books. What more competent non-hack writers do you recruit for this endeavor, and why? Who can actually write a Primarch without fucking it all up like in the real books?
16 posts and 1 images submitted.

I'll just write them all myself... too much easy money involved.
And Gurlyman will be shitted on days and night, and will probably end up killed by a random chaos cultist, or stepped on by a allied titan for the lols.

Dan Abnett, Timothy Zahn, Victor Milan of Dinosair Knights, Bran Sanderson for lore coordinator, and ADB.

Oh god I wish. He'd literally be the only one who can actually make Horus look like the Warmaster he's supposed to be. One of the worst parts of Vengeful Spirit was McNeill trying to bullshit Horus' strategic genius and failing miserably.

What are some "newbie friendly" tabletop rpgs?
I live in a small town, and after a long search I've found no group of roleplayers to join. A few friends and I want to play badly, but none of us have any experience whatsoever.

I was lurking around one of the civs that are up and this anon had a very good idea for a quest that I will attempt to run for you guys tonight.

Anon suggested this: you are a demon trapped within a very pretty gem, or perhaps the gem is not pretty at all. Perhaps one merely thinks it is pretty. A "host" of sorts will come to possess this gem somehow. You, the demon, whisper suggestions and attempt to control the "host". There are a few things we need to figure out before we get started.

Copy and paste the next post. I will supply a list of name suggestions for the demon and I encourage you to pick from that list for the sake of speed but its up to you.

1. What is your name? (Include any nicknames or titles)

2. What is your domain? (Most demons are attributed with certain powers or realms of influence)

3. How did you come to be "trapped" within the gem? (This is only semi-important)

4. What is your plan for the host? (Are you trying to escape the gem, etc. This is to give me at least some kind of direction when coming up with ideas)

Hey /tg/, I have a question.

What's the most lethal system you played? I'm looking for a system to run a post-apoc game and I found that weapons (Specifically firearms) are underwhelming in their lethality. Finding ammo isn't nearly as great when it means that one shotgun shell they find won't even put down a mook.

Pic not really related.

>He hasn't tried Savage Worlds yet

Put down what you're doing and go get the book.
>>
>>46603111
Shadowrun is pretty lethal. Most of the times I've played, damage was either "your dermal plating absorbs the hit" or being spaghetti on the walls.

I'm afraid I've not played many other dangerous systems beyond that. I've heard that RuneQuest is quite lethal, for example, but don't have firsthand experience.
>>
>>46603172
Savage Worlds is a bit of an interesting one in that a single bad roll can outright kill you, but you can do much more with the same kinds of success.

It also lacks a lot of mechanical depth sadly and the whole quick death usually makes people go combat focused as much as possible I find.
