4chan is never created.
Or the Bronze Age Collapse never takes place. That would have some of the biggest effect I think. All the languages would be different, Western and Eastern culture as we know it wouldn't exist. Technology would probably be radically different too.
About four years ago, my mother's car got attacked by some kind of superpowered freak. It put my mother in a coma for a good while, and she's been hospitalized ever since.
Now you'd THINK that the cops would be interested in pursuing someone who would and CAN punch cars into oblivion, but pretty everyone I told about what happened laughed in my face.
The only person who actually DID believe me is a girl I met in the park the night after the accident... and thanks to her, now I have my own powers.

I go quiet for a few seconds.
"What 'what?'" she asks, a puzzled look on her face.
"Ugh..."
I begin pacing around the room.
"APPARENTLY," I groan, "the voice in my head already knows where those two kids live. Or something."
"What?" Lorelei stares at me.
you two really do belong together
"And I guess he thinks it's a good idea to just raid their place," I say.
"...wow," Lorelei replies. "I can't say that it's a -bad- way to go about things, but how exactly do you plan on going about this?"
"That's what I want to know."

You are Captain Finn Leoric of The Great Company of Valemen, a mercenary company with a name longer than its history. You serve as one of the three heads of the company, serving Lord William Bordain of Westeros, mustering his forces to train them in the active forge of Essosi politics and war.
You’ve spent two months looking for work in Pentos, and finding nothing. No one wishes to be the first to hire a Mercenary army untested, untried. Your men were close to stir-crazy, needing something to get them out and about. Luckily, yesterday, a young Pentoshi noblewoman found herself in need of bodyguards and your men leapt to answer.
Since then, your merchant contact was held at knife point, and you had to stab his assailant in the gut, before learning that late-night bladed abductions are just a sort of opening tactic in Pentoshi business, and that you were now on the brink of seeming quite rude. You were able to patch up the man, and learn who had hired him, a Lyseni noblewoman named Voresa Baerrinar. A woman who, within an hour of you learning her name, had invited you to dine this evening.
Have I mentioned you desperately hate politics and intrigue? Today was a shitty day before the sun rose. And it looks to get only shittier.

Quests are communal Roleplaying Games. You and other posters will decide the actions and responses of a Main Character, either from presented choices, or your own write-ins.
>How do I contribute?
My posts provide you potential options. Vote for your favorite, or write your own. The Post with the most votes will be the character’s action. Some posts will ask for rolls. Rolls are determined from the best of the first 3 rolls submitted.
>What's the story?
This particular quest takes place in an alternate version of the Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire universe, some 13 years before the events of the first book. The first post contains a general summary of your current state, but if you want to know more about your character history, look for “Song of Iron and Hate” and “Knock-Off Game of Thrones Quest” on the sup/tg/ Archives.

But enough nonsense of me performing the basic minimum amounts of organization. BACK TO THE ISSUES.
You currently sit with Doma Toceri, Pentoshi Merchant, and financial overseer of the Company, having just shown him the invitation to a foreign noble's townhouse who had no reason to reach out to you.
"These are deep waters you have entered, Captain Finn. You must be careful. The Lyseni do not believe in training armies. They rely on mercenaries to wage their wars. This lady could be a opening for a great market, or a rival we did not see coming. You must try and avoid offense. You must weigh your every word to her, do you hear me?"
"I hear you, Doma. But you needn't worry. You'll be there to patch things over."
"I dare not, Captain Finn. I have...history with the Lyseni. It is not impossible this is some sort of trap to snatch me up and deliver me to my enemies. Further, note hear." He points his finger to a section of the note. "I invite you to dine aysola", she says. This is "privately". To bring any beyond a personal guard would be an insult. The note calls you "Master", a credit of respect. You would seem callous, rude, and paranoid if any notable ones came with you. You shall have to brave this challenge alone."

The creature giggles menacingly as it creeps closer to you.
You know that now isn't the time, but your curiosity gets the best of you...
"How do you know my name?" You ask.
The creature stops. "Your name... are you... Morsel?" It asks.
"No, I'm Yuu" You say.
"You're me?" It asks.
"No, you're you. I'm Yuu" You say.
"How can you be me if I'm me?" It asks.
"But I'm not you" You say. "I'm Yuu"
"Yuu! Are you alright?" Derrick calls up.
"No! I'm not Alright, I'm Ariadne!" The creature shouts.
"Oh" You say. "Hi, Ariadne. I'm Yuu"
"Stop that!" It says. It sounds less like a dangerous creature and more like an angry child now...
In the low light, you can see that its body is like Meredith's or Emi's, if they were a spider instead of a snake or a horse. But where the spider's head would be, the human torso pokes out. It has pale skin, and a slight frame. It seems small, but beyond that you can't see much...
"Ari! What have I told you about stringing up guests?" A harsh female voice calls.
"But I thought- Ekh!" The spider-girl lets out a weird grunt as something flies up and hits her in the face.
The object falls to the ground... it looks like a shoe of some sort.
Then the spider-girl falls to the ground.
Then the thread keeping you up loses tension, and you fall to the ground. You hit the floor hard on your butt. It hurts, but you're okay.
You hear whimpering coming from the spider, and look over to see her curled up...

You are Sierra Beckhoff, and you must confront Anatu-allatu, daughter of Ushologuissa the wrymwrither. With information from Nabuth’shazzar and the help of the Pallid Mask, the heiress has taken San Francisco’s magister hostage – who, not coincidentally, is also your boyfriend’s father.
If you do not face Anatu on Alcatraz come sundown, she’ll kill him. The alternative is attacking her base in Fimbria to rescue Crowther, but if she’s expecting you, there’s a chance even you might not be able to escape her trap.
Complicating things is the involvement of the Yellow King, a landmaster from the depths of the ocean. Fearing for the safety of the city, Isaac’s calling in the big guns to head off his territorial ambitions. With a team of government operatives coming to town, your dad is too preoccupied to help out with this one.
In order to tilt things in your favor when the Stygians show, you’re headed to Alcatraz early to trap the hell out of the place.
---
To repeat, you’re not afraid of boats. You just don’t like being on them.
And Alcatraz sits as a mote of rocky white behind a field of rain, wind, and iron waves.
Your team walks past the ferry ticket office, headed straight to the boat. Orias awaits your arrival along the way, wearing thin athletic clothes that provide little protection against the elements. Despite that, he is unaffected by the chilling wind. He nods a greeting to Ranthix before joining your procession.

Rowan and Harvey take the lead. Everyone carries suspiciously bulging duffel bags. Yours is especially heavy, but it gives you little trouble. Ocean spray fills the air from the crashing waves below the pier.
A pair of police officers in ponchos get in your way. One holds out a hand to stop you. “Island’s closed today folks, we received a tipoff of a potential terrorist threat.”
Rowan hoists up her back and gives them an exasperated look. “That’s why we’re here,” she says, gesturing to herself, you, and your vaguely paramilitary looking comrades.
The cops look dubiously at your group, even as rain continues to drench everything in sight. “Nobody goes out, nobody comes back,” he says. “No exceptions.”
Harvey doesn’t hold out hope of getting through. “I’ll call Dad,” he says, going for his phone.
“That won’t be necessary,” says Wolfgang, materializing as if out of thin air and stepping up beside Harv. He wears a dull-grey coat with the hood thrown up, and carries his staff.
He quickly corrals everyone away from the dock and the cops and leads you down to a set of stairs onto the rocky shore. Waves seek vainly to splash up the steep incline.
Wolf gestures everyone to gather round while he angles his staff toward the island.
“Nice save,” you say, hugging him tightly about the waist.
He winks at you. “You could have waited five minutes for me,” he says.
Ranthix lays a huge hand on your shoulder. “ENOUGH BANTER, TO THE ISLAND.”
Everyone else huddles in around you and Wolf. One sucking second later, the temperature drops further to a bitter cold. The scents of wet wood and asphalt are replaced with cleaner sea air, mingled a little bit with fresh mud. Ambient sounds of passing cars cease as well. In their stead the stormy sea fills the air.
>>46792463
If the wind on the shore was fierce, here it’s almost unbearable.
You pull away from Wolf and look around. A stark lighthouse towers before you. Next to it is a hollowed out frame of a building – through its skeletal windows you can see out the other side to the watery expanse beyond.
Turning around, you find the prison complex standing behind you, well-weathered from long years spent in open ocean air.
The plateau on which everything stands is surrounded by steep rocky slopes.
“There’s someone here,” Xathix reports, pointing down the front of the island down at the flattened parade ground below.
You have a look. Indeed, a lone figure sits at a corner of the desolate stone of the parade ground, seated on a stool. He reads a book to pass the time.
>Somebody go get him out of here.
>Ignore him, we’ve got hours before the action starts.

Condensation beads on the windshield of your shuttle, the cool humidity of the early morning darkness promising a long and muggy afternoon to you as you let out a long yawn. "You know, I think this is actually the earliest that I've woken up since I was on Earth." You mutter, glancing over towards Angelicia and Julius, the mechanic looking to be just about as groggy as you feel while the swordsman only grins brightly at both of you.
"Well we've all gotta start somewhere, Doc. Maybe by the time this shindig is over you'll be getting up before dawn every day." Reece quips, leading you to roll your eyes at him.
"Yeah, somehow I doubt that's going to be happening any time soon." You reply, opening your mouth to be continued, only to be interrupted by a tired groan from Angel.
"Both of you need to shut up. Any time before seven in the morning should be spent for either sleeping or drinking." She grumbles, stifling back a yawn of her own that you just barely avoid mimicking.
A smirk tugs at your lips, your own reluctance to wake of slowly starting to fade, "Have a bit too much to drink last night, Angel?"
"No." The mechanic shoots back, giving you what you're sure is supposed to be an intimidating glare, though the effect is undermined when she yawns again before continuing, "I had just enough to drink, Doc. I might have had more if you and Abi had joined, but you two missed out."
Julius lets out a small chuckle at her denial, something that you do your best to hold back as you shrug at her, "Maybe so, but we also have modded rounds for our weapons, so I think it probably equals out."
Angelicia huffs at your amusement, even as a somewhat tired smile of her own starts to form, "Maybe. I guess we'll never know for sure."
[Continued.]

"No kidding." You mutter, before glancing around around the bay again, noticing that while most of the mercenaries have moved on to more productive tasks, a few still seem to be showing at least a casual interest in your own group. You shake your head, doing your best to ignore them as you turn back to Tom and Freida, "Have either of you heard from Abi yet?"
"No, I haven't seen her this morning. I'm sure she's on her way though." Freida answers, while Tom nods in agreement with her.
You briefly consider stepping out of the bay to see if she's having any trouble finding it, though you're sure Freida's probably right. Of course, considering that you're still going to be sitting here for at least another half hour, you could take the time to read, if you wanted to. You still have several of the books that you bought completely untouched.
What do you want to do?
>Go talk to the alien mercs. Try to find out why they're so interested in your group.
>Step outside to look for Abi. She's probably on her way, but you'd hate for her to be left behind if she's having trouble finding the place.
>Sit down and read for a bit. You still have a lot to learn, and there's no time like the present.

“Bad dreams,” you sigh, looking past your contented dogfish and into the shadowed recesses of your living room, strewn with the cardboard boxes that contain the sum total of your life. There's a diploma in there, and a binder with your accolades, and someplace, somewhere, a little velvet box that never left your pocket.
“I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space... were it not that I have bad dreams,” you muse.
“Huh?” Shoukaku asks.
“Shakespeare,” you tell her. “Just some hack that strung together a bunch of old, well-known quotations.” Rummaging in the cupboard again, you pull out the dented old percolator and fill it at the sink. Kongou's impromptu breakfast tea left detritus all over, including some teabags. Shoukaku shuffles aside to let you at the stove - as you put the percolator on the flame, you notice she's wearing honest-to-god- “bunny slippers?”
“Aren't they cute?” she says with a smile, balancing a foot on her toes like a model showing off a new shoe. “And they're so comfortable and fluffy~”
“So,” you mumble. “Sleepwalking.”
Her face falls, and she hugs herself again. “Yeah.”
“That's usually linked to dreams,” you tell her.
“... yeah,” she says, much quieter this time.
You watch the blue flames flicker and dance under the percolator, the ghostly radiance eerily familiar as it plays over the counter and reflects off the polished side of the fridge. You twist the stove lamp's dial, but it's a simple on/off, not a dimmer. The slow, hollow ticking of heating metal and the subdued surresations of the air conditioning are the only sounds.

The party was charging into a royal ball to stop a poisoning attempt on their patron (a duke and about sixth in line for the throne, for whom they worked as private agents). It started as a fight on the rooftop when they were prevented from entering without an invitation. So they went over the fence and planned to use the roof, but a dispel rune caught them and killed the invisibility, starting the fight with the guards that hamstrung them because they had to stay nonlethal.
While dueling on top of the glass skylight, one of the players, the Magus, happened to look down and with a stupidly high Perception result (~33 or something) saw the duke speaking with the countess they thought was a vampire (she wasn't) and poisoner (she was).
So he wanted to shatter the (magically hardened) glass, leap down, swing off the chandelier to avoid the fall damage from the straight drop, and save their patron.
Unfortunately he flubbed the roll. He broke the glass, cracked his face on the chandelier and then fell into the buffet table before impaling his shoulder on stag antlers. Ironically the stag had been killed by the party when they accompanied their patron on the hunt earlier that day.
On the bright side, the commotion and abrupt halt to the festivities meant that the duke wasn't poisoned that night.
