Goooooood evening and welcome everyone to /tg/, the board where everything's made up, and the experience points are like my calorie count, who's counting??
Tonight we'll be playing a game called Scenes From a Hat.
The bard's last words.
>>46802455
>What could go wrong by sticking my dick in this?
>>46802455
>Let me play us out...
How would your character defeat a telekinetic?
Could they?
>>46801713
Are they powerful enough to stop bullets?
If they are, use a laser instead.
>>46801851
>use a laser
just make sure it's not in the visible spectrum
>>46802015
There's ultraviolet lasers.
But if he can block lasers I guess we're fucked. We could try particle accelerators or just irradiating him, but if he can block all that shit I guess we're just fucked unless we can use psychological warfare to make him break down.
How do you feel about cheaters?
In a casual competitive game: "Wow you sure showed me how much better you are."
In a cooperative game (D&D etc): "Why do you hate the idea of playing this game?"
In a tournament competitive game: Anyone caught should be banned from the game.
mrw in an RPG with friends there is that one guy that rolls the dice and then makes up what it say and never ever fails a roll. Why, man, why do you do this?
In anything competitive, don't cheat. Lose with dignity, get better, then come back or get the fuck out.
>>46800771
I actually think it's okay to cheat, if cheating is common parlance. No need to limit yourself to lose if no one else gives a damn about the rules.
>"Wait, you have a spellbook?"
>"Shit, do you not? Why the fuck not? Anyone can learn magic - and don't give me that shit about it being "too hard" or it "takes years". Of course it takes a while and makes you think about it, it's screwing with reality its-fucking-self. It's not gonna be as easy as riding a bloody horse. Look at the journeyman wizards you see around though, they're barely pushing thirty. They're at it full time, but after a few years on-and-off anyone can be projecting illusions, talking inside people's heads, even throwing firebolts if that's what you're into - but I don't recommend spending months or years learning how to be a shittier crossbow. Get a spellbook, learn some actual spells. Take a few years - not full time, obviously, you still need to be out there making money but anyone can take an hour before sleep to study up, have a poke through a book over lunch, whatever. Learn how to make yourself in-fucking-visible. Teleport, walk on ceilings, read goddamn minds. Sure, it's tough study and it'll take you a couple years just to get the basic theory right, but the payoff is literally magic. Why the fuck wouldn't you want to do that?"
>>46800265
You make a excellent point.
>>46800265
Is this bait to go to college
>>46800265
>implying
Or you know, learning spells is equivalent to needing at least a master's degree / ph.d in maths and most people, like in real life, simply do not have the mental faculties needed.
Hey m/tg/ just wondering if you or the groups you run with use informal "Keywords" to describe magic cards.
For instance everyone already knows and uses "Mill X" to replace:
>Puts the top X cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard
What else do you use?
>OP here
Here are some of mine that I use. About half of these my whole LGS use, the other half are just me and my wife.
Two more obvious ones first
Reanimate: To return a permanent from the graveyard to the field.
Cantrip: A instant or Sorcery that lets you Draw a card in additional to other effects.
Grow X: Place X +1/+1 counters on a creature
Blink/Flicker: To exile a target permanent then return it to the field. Blink is usually returned at end of turn. Flicker is usually instantly.
Manadork: Often just "Dork" for short. A CMC 1 creature that produces mana some how.
Impulse X: That thing where red often exiles X cards off the library and you can cast them until end of turn.
Gravedig or reclaim: Return a creature / any card from the 'yard to your hand.
>>46796354
Burn X: Do X damage to target creature, planeswalker or player.
>>46796354
Is Unblockable a keyword yet? I kept running into cards with it the term "unblockable" wasn't officially a keyword at the time.
Also:
Plink: "Deal 1 damage to target creature or player." Or Planeswalker, I guess. It's the Prodigial Sorcerer ability.
Bounce: "Return target to owner's hand."

Make them try. Generally at gunpoint, but I'm not above baking a cake and making some great tea/coffee to bribe it out.
Context is everything.
>>46789838
>What do you do when people tell you that Netrunner is "too complicated" to try?
Most people I've gotten to play. But one guy I know keeps saying he wants to learn but doesn't want to take the time to do so because of the complexity.
I don't quite get it.
>>46790178
What I don't get is, you're unlikely to get all the subtleties in one afternoon, but one game is enough to get the gist of it.
Make some core HB vs Shaper deck for a start. You're set on the basics.
You are Ur'shal, Chieftain of the Stonetusk Clan and Warlord of the Wastes, and gods willing, soon to be Dragonslayer. You led your forces down into the tunnels beneath the mountains, cutting your way through the cultists lurking within and tearing a path up to the dragon's lair high above by way of the coven's earth magic. Cleaving your way through the forces the dragon arrayed against you, you have finally come face to face with the long-time thorn in your side, the Earth Dragon Slaagyr. No doubt the cult's high priest Joachim is already rallying his forces to chase after you, but for the moment at least, the dragon is all alone, and as vulnerable as a twenty meter long mass of muscle, teeth and thick bony plates is ever going to get.
“Spread out. Iron Warriors, guard the sorcerers, Honorguard with me,” you bark, your warriors scattering to surround the young wyrm.
Slaagyr snarls, swinging around in a sharp arc to swipe his tail across the top of the pile of treasure he dragged himself free of, a great shower of precious metals and baubles raining down on you, not hard enough to do anything more than bruise and annoy, but enough to slow your warriors down as they move to carry out your orders. You lower your arm, your forces recovering, spotting the dragon taking a deep breath from atop the pile of gold. You know enough about dragons to know his next move.
>Charge in, Slaagyr can't breathe on you if he's busy trying to avoid an axe in the throat.
>Order your forces to scatter, use the mounds of treasure for cover
>Other (write-in)

Prolonged fight probably means heavy losses and a disadvantage for us. Also Joachim about to hump our rump. Less time we take to do this, the better.
Also mad skeelz and swag for speedrunning a dragon.
Would you play a game that takes place within a Virtual Reality game?
The idea being that players are characters in some sort of extreme advanced virtual reality. The game would be full of cheesy quests, random item drops, 0 time to equip and change items (but inventory limit) etc. The plots would not be reality to the Vidya plots, but rather guilds intrigues, raids to get better items, dealing with problematic players and hackers. Death would result in full item lost and spawning back in town. Players could 'break' character without breaking character. Items would always be decided by a random drop table based on the mob, etc.
Before anyone ask, no, it has nothing to do with that anime. Or any anime.
>>46811601
Sounds like fun. Meta as fuck.
>>46811632
That's one of the ideas. Make fun of the genre while still being able to have a couple 'serious' plotlines. Such as making the classical level up ding, or players camping to grind a boss until they all have purple tier / epic gear
>>46811601
I did something similar once because I had a party that liked to mess around and fail plotlines purely for the lulz factor of seeing what would happen.
Rather than getting frustrated and trying to make them play seriously, I just said everything was virtual and the could "reload checkpoints" when they finally got bored of seeing the town/city/world burn because of their screwing around.
It worked surprisingly well actually.
got a moralfag paladin in the party, how can I make him fall?
>>46811565
Are you the GM or the player?
>>46811565
Don't play and avoid ruining the game for both of you

I'm pretty sure it's one guy who does it because he hates editions/to troll us. Kinda like how some people make the general thread and intentionally omit a backlink/pastebin out of some obscure autism.
"I just stole the parts that make up this post from other posters" edition.

Assuming I can't be the shitty hanger-on for some Mummy cult, I kinda like the idea of being a "greeter" for the Circle of the Crone.
Less about horrific pagan blood rituals, more about "hey, we're a support structure for you that isn't a militant Catholic heresy, a transhumanist academic cult, a violent revolution, or an oppression structure of fealty and servitude."
New to WoD, just started playing VtM with a group. Any quirks/anything fun you guys like to do with random powers? I'm enjoying how streamlined and decision/RP focused the system is.

What's the coolest set of twin villains you can come up with /tg/?
Mine was a death cleric and a oathbreaker paladin, wielding the Eye and Hand of Vecna.
Carrying over this prompt: >>46807769
>>46807647
Right. So impossible to see the aura of invisible creatures or objects, but using an action, one can tell that a creature has an Illusion aura if they are under Disguise Self for example. Which would raise some questions.
Furthermore, an Unseen servant is invisible and unaurable by Detect Magic, but what if it is holding something? Do items that enter the servant's "inventory" go invisible? How about with Mage Hand Legerdemain? Furthermore, Invisibility? What happens with your inventory and things added to your inventory after casting? What if you have a tiny creature in your pocket?
>>46807862

Who do you share your tent with when you're resting /tg/?

My completely platonic friend the elven cleric.Just kidding, we're fucking like rabbits in there
The Emperor is Superman.
I feel like he wouldn't go on about "humanity" and "killing the xenos" nearly as much.
>>46804222
The Emperor was never the protagonist of a godawful game on the Nintendo 64.
>>46804270
The Emperor never advocated for killing aliens tho.
How would you feel about having multiple currencies in a setting? Do you think it would be too tedious?
>>46804075
I fucking love economics in RPGs.
Gimme all the debased currencies you got, OP.
My setting's currency is convoluted and arbitrary enough as is. I don't think it'd be the wise to add another.
Each nation mints their own coins but they're all worth the same amount, because I would indeed find it tedious.
