Netepic Armageddon is a 6mm (1:285 scale) wargame set in the Warhammer 40 000 universe.
In 2003 GW published the fourth edition of Epic, Epic Armageddon.The game relied on community feedback during development and the living rulebook was made available via GW's Fanatic website. The rules are still available for free, but not supported by GW any more. Until the promised return of the specialist games by GW, the game is developed by the fans in the form of Net Epic Armageddon.

There is a lot of old epic stuff on Ebay and some manufacturers produce good proxies, like http://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/. Tacticalwargames.net, and other forums or facebook groups also do lots of trading in second hand epic minis.
>What's the game like?
Players alternate using parts of their armies called formations rather than moving and fighting with their entire force. Morale and fatigue is represented by giving “Blast Markers” to a formation when something bad happens to it, which gradually makes it less effective and stops more and more units in the formation from acting until they rally. The scale makes units with longer range weapons or high movement speed stand out more, makes manoeuvring more important and allows for the use of many units that are superheavy or above in Warhammer 40 000, such as Baneblades, fliers, knights or titans without warping the game too much.

In this anon's opinion, this is a great gamers game as well as a great hobby game. Not as clumsy or random as 40k. An elegant game... for a more civilized age.

This is what the forumware Reaver titan that you can buy from shady recasters that lurk on /tg/ looks like. The head shield is detachable and reveals the cockpit detail with the moderati and princeps, and it comes with several weapon options.

In game it's a beast like most titan weight units, but blowing up a bunch of tanks or several entire squads of infantry in a turn of shooting is not quite as terrifying when you have tons of them. Or titans of your own.

If you have anyone to play with at all, even if they don't play epic, collecting 2 armies doesn't break the bank and is a good way to introduce others to a tinier flavour of plastic crack.

I built an eldar and a space marine force when I first started and played with anyone who wanted to try.

These are the lands of alterac, fairest of all the kingdoms. Your inheritance is the town of Strahnbrad, located at the center of the royal road that passes through alterac and is the lifeblood that sustains your people. The lands to the north are your domain, and encircled on the map. It includes bountiful farmland and groves that are in good demand for building ships.

The closest fortress to you is Falcon's Rest. The ancient halls of your fathers and currently occupied by you. Further to the North lies Eagle's Perch, an Alteraci Fortress that is claimed by the Alliance forces led by the Lordaeronian general Othmar Garithos.

To the south, at tower pointe is the Garrison that was commanded by general Hath during the second war. It lies abandoned now that Stromgarde forces have withdrawn from the passses. It falls to the king, Isiden Perenolde to
nominate a new garrison commander, and is a high honor the new noble houses are jostling for.

On the other hand, you have nearly been assassinated by a shadowy group that calls itself the Syndicate. They have promised to make Alterac run red with the blood of people like you and offer it to their new masters.

The brown block shows the location of Thoras Trollbane's army. Alterac has historically been the weakest of the human nations due to it's size and manpower. Right before the orcs invaded azeroth, Stromgarde had attempted to invade Alterac and were beaten back by general Hath at tower pointe.

While the restoration of Alterac is underway, Trollbane has constructed a fortified encampment right outside the borders of alterac and withdrawn his forces there. Time will tell if he will stand down or strike out once more.

You have problems of your own to deal with. The leader of the Alliance forces has been slighted by your militia's attempt to retake Falcon's Rest, and had besieged it.

What really sets you off in tabletop storytelling, /tg/?

Pic related - I can't fucking stand it when the villain is said to be some amazing military genius but actually just cheats and metagames as a cover for the GM being unable to come up with an actually coherent plan. It inevitably turns into the GM wanking about how amazing the character is when in reality his only talent is being written by the GM.

I'm not expecting GMs to become military strategists just for the sake of writing but you can at least learn enough to fake it before going on about how fucking amazing a character is at something, right?

You are Sonia Reynard, Baron of Rioja. One small world among many in the House of Jerik-Dremine. From it you control the fates of a dozen others in the so called Smuggler's Run. With your new position you have the opportunity to become one of the most influential people in your House.

It is from this world that you draw your fleets and armies from. Both have seen their share of action with anti-piracy actions, the battle of Magdalena, and a follow up planetary assault. Elements are deployed elsewhere helping to strengthen your allies while others have been recalled to the capital.

As the Dominion slips deeper into civil war you and those under your command have been fighting to protect your little corner of known space. The war has returned to the DRH1 Relay as you and your allies attempt to take advantage of temporary weakness shown by House Bonrah. You don't know if this will accelerate plans of theirs and House Nasidum to invade and retake the area early in the next year. At the very least it will deny them an existing supply base for their fleet when it arrives.

Knight Captain Katherine Drake is your fleet's Wing Commander.

Uyi Rna is the General of your Army and is overseeing upgrades to your army.

Wiremu Tama is the admiral of your Fleet. His efforts are now focused on preparing your forces to repel the upcoming invasion.

Fadila Saqqaf is your leading diplomatic adviser. It's been with her help that you've been able to delegate responsibilities in the newly annexed territories.

Chide Dlam'ard, the Governor of Rioja is working with other Governors to help fortify your worlds in your absence.

Better late than never edition.

With the declaration of war against House Bonrah, Jerik-Dremine and its allies in the relay have begin an invasion of Bonrah space. Currently your forces are sweeping through the territory of Minor Houses which are finding themselves completely outmatched. For now your numerical superiority in the region is helping to ensure swift local victories against locations that are resisting.

Knights Drake and Kim are leading fleets to secure logistics bases to assist in the push into Bonrah space, meanwhile your own has pursued a fleeing enemy fleet across the border.

Unable to shake your pursuit the fleet performed a slingshot around a gas giant while their least heavily crewed ships attempted a delaying action. A wing of attack corvettes and several battlecruisers escaped but you were able to cripple a carrier, its escort, and a Medium cruiser. The crew of the Medium cruiser has surrendered but not before jettisoning their fuel stores which will add several hours to salvage efforts.

One of your assault corvette squadron leaders report in.
"Sir, a few of the remaining enemy assault corvettes are trying to reach the edge of the gravity well but we have them boxed in."

You try to think of a convincing message to sway the remaining enemy crews. Once this House is "liberated" from Bonrah's sphere of influence they're going to need as many ships and crews as possible to rebuild. You attempt to appeal to their patriotism. You can't simply annex every House you go to war with after all, as tempting as that might be.

(Along with that you try to point out that self-preservation and logic should be considered as well.)

By the time your Medium cruisers have finished stabilising the orbit of the crippled Pico class ship your squadrons report in that the remaining enemy ships have ceased fire.

You point to your terminal to have it directed there.

"This is Captain Mevc Laudium. You seem sincere so I offer to discuss terms. We are in no position to make demands but I do have another offer. Permit the immediate relatives of my remaining pilots to retain their holdings and I can convince them to surrender our worlds more quickly."

With the true invasion of Bonrah territory yet to commence anything you could do to minimise losses to the armies of you or your allies would be helpful in the long run. On the other hand just getting their surrender here and now might provide more options for loot later on. Ransom alone could earn you some money.

I live in Toronto and it always annoys me how there are 700+ references for Fantasy New York or Fantasy Los Angeles while we got Forever Knight. The rest of the country doesn't even have that

It doesn't because I am an adult that does things that I want to do. The only real effects location has on the hobby is population density and if you're not in a shit filled brown country.

You're just a baby who gets ass blasted that they can't be equally represented in things. How about you just make something set in your fucking shitty city.

Typical fucking Canadian wants equal representation but doesn't want to get off their syrup laden ass to go work for it.

Then again, maybe you would have more time to make these books and settings set in Toronto if you didn't have to work 8 jobs to afford your 10 million dollar houses from your chink overlords.
