In a fantasy setting, what are some races that would serve as an interesting long term ally for humans rather then the standard Dwarf, Elf combo?
I was trying to figure out a way to work harpies in as a somewhat normal ally for the humans, but the only way I managed to push em in was by dumbing em down to an almost animal level and having them serve as scouts and messengers to what are basically falconers
So if you do know of some races that could, it'd be nice to see how they'd work with humans in the case of being allies or long time racial "friends"
>>54804543
It could simply be that harpies trade their mobility for roosting in human's towers and even homes for the winter. Harpies could be nomadic flocks that have traditional alliances and grudges with various human factions. Controlling or eradicating groups of them would be critical for wars, and they could be dwindling in numbers but too far removed from their old ways to stop relying on humans.
>>54804543
Yo I wanna fuck that bird.
>>54804586
Never actually thought to make them nomadic, though I guess the whole flying south for the winter thing can tie into that pretty well
I can imagine the humans trying to build better harpy accommodations in an attempt to woo them to their side, a sort of ally cold war between the northern n southern kingdoms
You are at your current location, with the stuff you have at hand atm.
A Zombie pandemic starts and you have to survive. Lets say the epicenter of the infection is the next big town (100k and up) and from there it spreads and spreads.
What kind of campaign would unfold?
Would you survive? How long?
>options:
>harder:
>sprinters:
Fast and with decent reactions. Like in the Dawn of the Dead remake.
>ineffective police and military reaction:
The security forces fuck it up. Their reaction either doesn't help or even makes it worse.
>wise ones:
Some Zombies are smart. They can use basic tools and understand shit like doors or how pack hunting works. (super hard: All Zombies are this smart).
>Einsteins: All Zombies maintain their full intelligence. Have fun...
>easier:
>helpful Police and military:
They actually get shit done.
>outside help:
The military/UN/another Nation helps with airdrops etc.
>>54800445
If zombies are just people infected with rabbies, all you need to do is survive for a week before zombies start dying from dehydration
gg easy. I am currently armed and in a nuclear bunker with 6 months of food.
>>54800445
My campaign:
I am at my families vacation house in France. Its in a pinewood and part of a larger fenced off holiday resort. I don't speak french so i would probably band together with other tourists, raiding nearby villages and defending the resort.
>rage zombies:
Yeah the fence won't stop them... I would probably try to find a boat and raid the coast.
>wise ones:
Would be nasty because most Zombies would be stopped by the fence. The wise ones could infiltrate the resort though...
>Einsteins:
Puuh. That would turn the resort into a slaughterhouse REALLY quick. The roads would be blocked by cars and the Zs would guard the beach paths. I could see vicious fighting with knives and camping supplies.
>>54800494
Well lets suppose its not just rabbies but undead zombieism...
And even if its rabies, try surviving a month (remember not all people are infected from day one) in a World with a collapsing society and rampaging infected.

Delve is a pretty stupid mechanic because it essentially amounts to fast mana. Modern shouldn't be a format with fast mana.

yeah and that's why the strong delve spells are banned, even in legacy and vintage. But even cheap creatures are easily dealt with by cheap removal.
I'm in love with Talislanta, specifically the fourth edition. Can we have a thread to spread this game to everyone and discuss what our favorite parts are?
This site has pdfs for all five editions, as well as a slew of other materials: http://talislanta.com/

I'm just starting out, been reading the core rulebook over the course of the last few nights. How important is it to have multiple fake SINs and other such identifiers? Also, if I use priority gen and make a mage, is it pretty much impossible to be effective with only a D in magic? I was looking for someone who -could- use magic, but was much better at normal, physical combat and skills (Perhaps someone who awakened late in life and doesn't really have a grasp on magic beyond a few basic things).
Also, what advantages do aspected magicians have over true mages? I haven't quite got to the magic section yet, but are they worth creating at all?

Do you guys make your own custom Space Marine chapters? I want to hear about them.
I'm a big fan of 40k, but not so much the crunch side because I can't afford the hobby (I do watch some games as a spectator now and then). The fluff, writing and opportunity for text role-playing is what fascinates me and I've been wondering about making my own custom Space Marine chapter.
Is there a resource or skeleton you guys use to create them? I'd love to see some examples!
You can use one of the rolling tables found online to stat out homeworld, hated foe, etc.
I go with established chapters then make up biographies from there based on who keeps jobbing and who acts heroically
>>54762582
Google 1d4chan space marine tables. Back in 4th Ed you could custom make your own chapter, there were rules for it. Those days are gone sadly but the spirit lives on in these charts /the/ made based on them. It's pure fluff now no Homebrew. But that's fine.
>>54762582
>Is there a resource or skeleton you guys use to create them? I'd love to see some examples!
Check out the Bolter and Chainsword.
It has a subforum dedicated solely to custom chapters and the writing thereof.
There are a series of articles of dos and don'ts, a collection of relevant information like founding dates, list of successor chapters etc too.
They'll help you to write an Index Astartes Article in the same vein as they used to be published in White Dwarf.
>pdf related.
You can use an outline, or 'skeleton' like this article as inspiration for writing your own.
Homeworld, Chapter origins, doctrine, preferred ways to wage war and Chapter customs and folklore or genetic quirks and their relation to other Chapters or the rest of the Imperium is always good.

Importance of Etiquette and Wits

Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games. The Kickstarter was nearly 300% funded, and we're on the fast track to kicking ass baby.
Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

A sci-fi one?

>>54830398
No, but if you're a shitter who can't worldbuild in diversity then don't make all humans.
Sci-fi is incredibly fun if you have people who enjoy it.
No, but not all corporations are good or bad. See statement 1.
No.
Yes. I'm in a game right now where there was a cataclysmic event that ravaged entire peoples. Stretches of land became inhospitable arcane storms, oceans opened into cavernous voids that consumed the fish population, and other generally terrible stuff. However that was several years ago in-game and the various groups of people are picking up the pieces and finding alternatives.
>>54830398
brotip: If you're really uncreative, use races as personality archetypes while keeping everyone human.
>>54830398
>Is it wrong to have an all human setting?
No, actually this is what I end up doing for most of my settings.
>A sci-fi one?
Not at all, there are tons of these.
>Is it wrong for corporations to be good?
No, the bad corp trope is just a carry-over from the cyberpunk genre and "fight the man" culture in America.
>Is it wrong for corporations to own planets?
Morally wrong or bad writing? If the corps colonized them themselves I find no fault with it. Depends on the circumstances though.
>Is it possible for a game to take place in a post-scarcity society? How?
Yes? This is literally what Star Trek games are.
