There are computers that exist down to 4K, and anything purely mechanical doesn't much care about the temperature (so long as it doesn't break). Hydraulics would even still work, you'd just need to use helium.

In theory, robots could colonise something at 4-6K. As for how you'd power them: Combust solid hydrogen and solid oxygen or fuse hydrogen.

As for how navigation would work in a lightless area, they'd use sonar or vibration sense.

What about deep caves or the deep ocean?
No sun, and yet, not frozen.

I once played as a really pissed off Witch Hunter who had a monumental beef with a Knight of the Inner Circle

So what I did was I went to his Quarters at a village we were housed in and made all kinds of checks to write perfectly in his hand writing in his journal and forged several pieces of evidence of him wanting to claim the Skaven are real to the entire Empire.

I then decided to dig a tunnel in his floorboard through the basement of the housing that was provided, I ended up cutting through some stone with a helpful dwarf that I hired and crawled hands and knees.
While also doing that I asked the Dwarf if there were any Skaven colonies nearby and he dug into a portion of it which I planted a long-fused explosive into the ground to wake up the Ratmen below hoping they would see the tunnel above.

After that I waited about 4 days or so for the Knight to come back before I traversed the tunnel into his room and went up stairs carefully and tried to not wake him up as he slept on the second floor, I opened his door and shouted "THE SKAVEN ARE REAL!" and immediately the other hunters and masses that didn't want the villagefolk to know this came knocking at the doors in the house as I covered up the tunnel I came through with some stones I roped to the ceiling so I could cut it beneath the grounds even if it did look suspicious.

As I crawled through I lit the fuse about half-way and let the Skaven do the rest of the work that was needed until I ran out of Town and reported it to my fellow Middenheim Witchhunters

We were all relieved it actually worked, though kinda upset that our ranger died. I skipped the battle in the story because it really wasn't interesting. Just a bunch of "you fools are too late" bullshit from the BBEG, and a fairly normal battle.

While green text doesn't convey it, we were seriously worried the entire time. We thought the damage we took from arrows was gonna fuck us over with the wizard battle, but we managed to hit him a few times while he desperately tried to finish the summoning.
The fight was a little anticlimactic.

Sup /tg/!

Looks like I'm finally getting around to GM my own campaign! Problem is, I never really did that before, so I'm worried about screwing everything up.
What should I do?
What should I not do?
What's an appropriate first mission for (mostly) new players?
How much detail should I put into NPCs?

And so on, and so forth. Ask questions, share advice, and let's help each other get better at GMing.

>What's an appropriate first mission for (mostly) new players?
The sample mission at the end of the core book.
>How much detail should I put into NPCs?
None, they're a name with a funny accent that will get ganked

But seriously, what game are you running? Do you have a general idea what you want to do at least? We can't give more than generic advice/trolling knowing so little.
>>
>>47215164
A lot of this stuff depends on the system. It's also worth noting that storytelling is an artform. As such pretty much any piece of advice you receive will have some situation and way where it's better to go against it. Though there are some common sense things. Secondly: Everybody does it differently. Don't be afraid to experiment. Find a way that works for you and your group. Thirdly: All advice will be given on the assumption that you have a good group of players who aren't shiters. Sometimes a party is just bad and the rules don't necessarily apply to them the same way. With all that being said:

>What should I do?
Have fun and make sure the party has a good time.

Try to spread out the spotlight but if somebody just falls into a passive groove (and enjoy it) don't stress out too much. It's natural for some people to come into the foreground. As long as everybody is having a good time it isn't a problem.

Communicate like adults. If you have a problem, don't get accusatory but do bring it up. Ask players what they enjoyed and what they didn't enjoy after every session. Don't be afraid to let your players have a peek-around-the-curtain every once in a while when relevant. Every group plays differently but in some situations it's more fun to know that a scheme is being made against you. Try to get a grasp over the game your party wants to play.

Improvise. Planning is all fine and well but you probably shouldn't be planning anything long-term. Plan with the mindset that your plans wont survive first contact with the players. GMing is less about planning out and masterminding player actions, but much more about knowing the world you're running to the point where you know how it will react to player actions. Learn the setting rather than drawing out a whole bunch of maps. Planning and prepwork is fine and you'll probably have to do a little, especially if you're running a premade but you do have to be prepared to drop those plans.

For there is happiness within the cleansing flame

So the kickstarter for The Dark Eye has been going for about a week and is at 55,000 $ right now:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1216685848/the-dark-eye-rpgenglish-edition

It's the biggest pen & paper system in german speaking countries and has been in publication for well over 30 years.

The system was quite bloated in the past, but with the 5th Edition they boiled it down to basics in a better way while keeping it interesting. What I like about the system is the fact that it feels more skill based and you can actually create the sort of character you like - even a confectioner is possible from the rules.

I think it's biggest advantages is it's really well-developed setting. You have one region that is sort of like the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, you have a setting that is Renaissance Italy / France, you have Vikings, an Arabian setting, colonial slave holders and much more.

As the setting had a living history of more than thirty years, it also all feels really cohesive.

It's also more "low-fantasy" / grounded in reality. Obtaining a full set of knight's armour is a great deed in TDE and (permanent) magical items are usually very rare.

The game system also avoids many pitfalls of other major RPGS - e.g. no rising hit points, character progression as opposed to character leveling, armour decreases damage taken and doesn't make it harder to hit you etc.

I've been playing in the setting for more than 20 years myself, so feel free to ask me anything.

I'll dump some artwork in the meantime.

Hey guys, I'm planning on ending my current arc on a strong note and having a colossal plant monster be the final boss.

but i want it to be more than a damage sponge monster so i need to come up with weak points they can strike for massive damage... or something more logical like it has an opening after doing a breath attack.

do you guys have any experience with massive monsters? plant monsters? or basically how to make this guy a tough fight without just giving him more health?

as for attacks maybe those can use a tune up? you tell me.
- sweeping vine attack
- seed pods that create mini versions of it
- bite attack
- poison breath attack

oh, additional info that may help

- the plant has been known to basically eat magic, when it comes into contact with magic it is absorbed and becomes stronger
- system is Anima Beyond Fantasy

No. Tell the player to stop being lazy and actually put the effort into making their own character. You're the DM, you're already making the entire world and plotlines within it, if someone can't be arsed to even do THEIR OWN CHARACTER, don't let them play.

With all the rich lore and cannon that goes into the Imperium, I am frankly stupefied at how utterly thin and preposterous the motivation for the Horus Heresy was.

Its just fucking mind bogglingly stupid.

So you're dad fucked off back to terra for a while and told you he had something he had to keep secret from you for while.

Did you ever stop to think how fucking preposterous this is? The Primarchs were fucking IMMORTAL. The emperor should have been able to tell them to wait another 10,000 years, it shouldn't have made one bit of bit of difference.

What kind of emotionally regressed CHILD would start falling apart at the seems cause their daddy has been gone for more than 5 minutes?

In a setting so fucking rich with incredible artwork, thematic nuance, catholic symbolism and dark age rhetoric, the Horus Heresy, (and pretty much all GW's narrative fiction) just absolutely sickens me with its incredible waste of fucking potential.

I mean, just step back for a second.

Is the emperor a good person?

NO!

He is a fucking monster! He is everything that is wrong with humanity. He represents our pride, our selfishness, our arrogance. He is incapable of empathy, incapable of love, he places his own ego and his own self interest above everyone and everything.

He encourages genocide, fascism, war, tyranny, and endless, unfathomable HATRED.

He is the incarnation of order run amok, overbearing and uncompromising authority shitting over everything that is good and pure in the galaxy.

If the emperor had his way, not a single flower would grow without his say so, not a single child would laugh without his permission. He has no sense of humor, humility, spontaneity or mirth. He was the corpse emperor long before he ever ascended to the golden throne.

Why is metal always so closely associated with fantasy and roleplaying games?

Is just because they both happened to be part of the counter culture in the late 70's and 80's, or is there another reason for it?

Kind of a bummer, really. Its amazing how warhammer 40k managed to be so fucking smart and so fucking stupid at the same time. Its theme was subversive and seditious, buts its implementation was borderline retarded.

It could have really benefited from some clever writers, there was always just way too much filler and not enough content.

Well, the lore has more or less been at a standstill since the great Eye of Terror campaign, when Chaos won and GW decided they were kind of terrified of change.
As far as the company declining, well it's no secret that GW has management problems and was operating on a rather bizarre business model for a long time. Add to that the fact that miniature wargaming is a very niche hobby, and wouldn't surprise me to hear that the company is in a bad way.
Still, the IP will be around for a while and so it will live on as video games even if the company completely tanks.
