does using a weapon with both hands increase speed , attack strength or both?
does reverse-gripping a dagger have any purpose?
41 posts and 3 images submitted.

Depends on the weapon I imagine.

I have some East Asian sword that has been in my family for a while, could one of you anons identify it you think? I'll post pics
>>
>>47297378
Yes.
>>
>does using a weapon with both hands increase speed , attack strength or both?
You can swing with more power as you have both arms applying force, also two arms gives you more control which could effectively make you faster
>does reverse-gripping a dagger have any purpose?
It's easier to do an upwards slash or a downwards stab.

Bearing in mind I know pretty much fuck all about actual fighting, I may be completely wrong :)

>other party member with huge damage goes and kills THAT debuffed enemy instead of the other, non-debuffed, equally dangerous enemy

Have you ever played alongside people who had no sense of teamwork and/or tactics whatsoever?

It's not like you can't point this out or discuss it when your characters aren't in danger in character

Though there are exceptions to what you're talking about. Killing a temporarily weakened enemy might make more sense long term for the fight if you can take them out quickly

Sure, charging that Giant got a boulder dropped on me, but I was raging, didn't die, and the Rogue went all "Shadow of the Colossus" on him and stabbed him in the base of his neck.

Worked out just fine.

Has anyone here played in or DM'd a game where the player(s) played the antagonist(s) in order to set up another campaign?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>47297213
Not specifically to set up another campaign. But I have run games where the players were the antagonists. It happened on its own a couple of times, where I would try to present them as the good guys and they would just turn into destructive, out-of-control sociopaths. So then I tried to run a campaign where they were the bad guys from the start. They didn't like it, and tried to be the heroes instead.

I used to think they were contrarian, but after a few more years of gaming, now I think they're just retarded.

Long running superhero game. GM ended up running two groups, the Older Adult team which I was a former part of and the younger teenage team, whom i became the main nemesis of for long while till the Adult team managed to reverse the mind control I was under. But god those two years were freaking awesome. Was almost a solid year before my true identity was found out by the teen group. Actually killed one of them...some Doc Ock ripoff type guy.

Alrighty so I am in a campaign where our treant bard has recently died.
Our GM allowed us to break off a twig and "Groot" him by planting in in some dirt and then let him slowly grow.

But the thing is that our GM has also given the bard an ability which lets him absorb abilities from people, animals etc. that are left in his soil.

Me and the other guy (I am a sheildbearing lizard and he is a magical squirtle) have decided to create the best darn compost for our bard to grow up in. So I come you guys in search of ideas.

Our setting is a big mishmash of different things so there is pretty much no limit on what to look for.

So far we have:
water from Korins tower
golden apples from Asgaard
maybe try to make a hyperbolic timechamber sorta thing so he can grow up fast

and that is pretty much what we have so far. More ideas please?

Ambrosia? blood and bits from various powerful monsters? rotting things make good compost, alternatively shit is great compost, but i'm pretty sure you don't want to plant him in that. What kinda things are available in your setting, and what do you want to give him?
>>
Halfway through reading your post I was expecting it to turn into your manhunt for great musicians that you would kill and turn into compost in order to make some sort of super bard

Hey /tg/ amateur game maker here. I've working on a board game for a bit now and I got all the mechanics down and everything and now I'm just wondering a few things.
>where to test my game, (no friends),
and then if that goes well

I have a prototype, but it is very fragile.

I used the silhouette of a liberty ship with some minor changes, but planned to use it as repair ship. the (?) is because I'm unsure if I want to include it. that's one of the things I need to test

Hey, /tg/.

I know this may seem like an odd request, but I'm wondering if anyone here has some sort of know-how on running a single player campaign.

I know, it's sad, but it's been over 3 years since I've had some sort of roleplaying experience with friends. All I want is to relive my old memories of having a character with it's own story, and I'm having a very hard time on creating a proper atmosphere.

Any recommendations or tips would be appreciated.

Out of curiosity, what is the cost of a booster pack at everyone's LGS? $2.70 a pack here in Saint Louis, however some places charge as much as $4.19 here. Trying to figure out why the variance in price, or is this just the norm?
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>47295779
San Diego, CA reporting in at $4 a pack. Wizards has their recommended MSRP, but stores are allowed to charge as much as they want. A major aspect tends to be how expensive the rent is for the shop
>>
>>47295779

Here boosters are 3-3.5€. You can find older boosters for 1-3€ in big stores too.

No idea, but since we're on the topic.

>Dad playing AD&D
>Party making their way through a giant pyramid
>Come across a painting with a gooey Mario64 quality to it.
>Barbarian with terrible WIS and INT just walks into the painting
>Takes round after round of fall damage as he bounces down the side of the pyramid from the peak.

So I'm starting up a new dnd game and have been wracking my brain for a good plot line to run. I've got modules a plenty and full length adventure paths to choose from but there's always somthing about running your own...

The premise I've got so far is straight forward enough but I'd like any insight or advice that can be given.

Basically the players hear legend of a mythical forge and a equally magical forge hammer both were created by warring nations in as a gesture of peace to each other and a reminder of the greatness they can create working together.
Both kingdoms eventiually fell and the forge and hammer lost to the mists of time.

Basically the group would discover the tales and start to investigate the legend. At some point a bbg is revealed to also be pursuing it...a race against time ensues...etc etc...

The hammer and forge were created by the gods, and were used to make creation. The BBEG desperately wants to use these ancient and powerful artifacts to either a.) make himself a god, or b.) remake the world in his (or his god's) image. Perhaps even both.

The BBEG's motive is tied to some personal tragedy; a family member, friend, or mentor who died what the BBEG believes is a meaningless death, the BBEG's childhood was in some way damaged or tragically cut short, or they are doing it for King, Country, and God.

BBEG doesn't have to be male. Just easier to type he and his since they're shorter.

Basically I'm just looking for tips, ideas or suggestions tg would think of help improve the plot or even better plot lines altogether.

Hey /teeg/, I got a problem with one of my fellow players and I have no idea what to do about it, so I figured I'd ask you elegan/tg/entleman about it.

See, one of our players is playing this little orphan ranger girl and the whole routine is actually pretty cute. She was basically this super cheery group mascot that was super eager to help all the time.

Then this new player shows up with a prissy noble character that he plays as anime as possible with her ending sentences with shit like "ufufufu" or "ohohoho". Worse yet, this first thing his character does is pick a fight with the party.

The second thing he does is have her "claim the loli" as he put it. The hunter's player has always been a little soft spoken and he tends to go with the flow both IC and OOC so I don't know how okay he is with this, but the noble weaboo asshole will do things like get his character drunk and carry her off to a private room or force the hunter to bathe his character.

Frankly the whole thing is super troubling and I just want it to stop.

With the high and every-increasing cost of entry, is it worth it to become invested in MTG? I enjoy the game and all, but it's such a huge financial commitment to keep even a few good decks around.

And then, dealing with the neckbears at FNM.

Thoughts?

Is MTG worth it, cost/benefit-wise, for a new player?
26 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>47294524

Cost/benefit doesn't really apply to games and luxury goods unless you get that much enjoyment out of it. Generally MtG on the competitive scene isn't worth it in general.
>>
>>47294524
MTG is fine on a casual level
MTG isn't fine on a competitive level unless you're willing to make competitive MTG your life, and even then you might as well pick up a second job of some kind to pay for the MTG.
>>
Learn to draft. It's the cheapest way to start playing and be competitive at the same time.

I did draft for a year beforr breaking into constructed.

Hey lets discuss the regiments, chapters, rules, and units you've made up!

For instance what are you chapters recruiting methods or rights of passage into being a battle brother?
47 posts and 13 images submitted.
>>
>>47294255
They recruit from a penal world, everyone is sentenced to death and their execution is going through the organ implementation, if they survive they become marines otherwise they die. No one knows this of course, except the marines and the inquisition conclave in charge of the project.
>>
>>47294255
The Razor Wasps Chapter takes its name from a unique arthropod species on their now-lost homeworld. As a steward chapter, the space station that is now their home doubles as the government center for their subsector. It produces an elite regiment of stormtroopers drawn from the best and brightest Imperial Guard regiments of the sector, as well as the station's own eugenically-optimized crew. The entire regiment is semi-secretly undergoing Astartes-scout training (though without most of the cybernetic enhancements and implants), making the entire regiment technically 'aspirants', though only five candidates are selected per decade. Those five 'finalists', the best that stormtrooper regiment can produce and already battle-hardened veterans are then given additional training, the culmination of which is a ritual torture session. Locked in a steam lodge, the five hopefuls are each injected with venom from a Razor Wasp directly into their heart. They are carefully monitored and any noise of discomfort or loss of consciousness disqualifies the candidate. The venom temporarily converts the victim's nervous system into a psychic antenae and broadcasts the agonizing pain they feel to all other life forms within about 50 meters. The other applicants feel that pain, compounded with their own, and transmit it back, creating a feedback loop of mounting agony which has been known to kill even full marines who stray too close. The final applicant awake, sane, and standing silently is given a month to rest and heal before becoming a full Battle Brother and being taken in for their full implant suite.

There's a lot more going on with them, but I don't want to ramble.
>>
>>47295211
Don't they need to be at least younger than 15 to become a space marine?

Or is this some kind of fucked up "If you die before your sentence is finished your kid takes your place" deal?
