Why the fuck did Wizards decide to make this cancerous, fetish-tier meme race one of the core races in D&D.

Does Hasbro own a dragon dildo company or something?

Like, what the actual fuck? Where did they even come from? How am I supposed to even explain their existence in Faerun or any setting that existed before 4e?

Fuck that. I don't care if they're in the PHB, you're not playing a fucking dragonborn in my game.

Same goes for tieflings.

Because it appeals to casuals.

Because they were too lazy to make a not evil Lizard race, so we got Dragonborn.
>Same goes for tieflings.
Why though. It's literally the same thing as being a sorcerer, but with fiends, but your physiology changes.
>>
What's your problem with it, anon? Is it just that its new? Because lizardmen have been a thing since for-fucking-ever.

You are Urist Twelfthbay, and you are the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress. You are on the phone with the moe personification of Mega Man, the moe personification of Dragon Quest, and the goddess of all things Xbox. You are standing outside the room of the two goddesses of all things Sega, since they are playing the off-label video games of their constituents.

This is exactly why you just call everyone by their damn names. It's moe personifications all the way down.

Here in Gamindustri, moe personifications are a dime a dozen, but most everyone else has adapted to the whole cutesy anime bullshit better than you ever will (or would ever care to). While you're just a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry who happens to look like a beardless waif, the world is packed full of syrupy-sweet girls with big glittery eyes and voices like gelded cats.

... not that there's anything wrong with that, since you call a whole bunch of them your friends.

You manage to extricate yourself from your four-way phone call with Estelle, Rokko, and Vert- though not without some difficulty. Not that you can blame them for freaking out; you only gave them the extremely short version of your trials thus far- your time in the hyperdimensional void and your time spent inhabiting Neptune's big dumb body- and it DOES sound pretty fucked up.

You decide not to mention how you accidentally created a new goddess out of whole cloth. There's really no good way to describe that without raising more questions, all of them terminally embarrassing.

"None of that should be possible," Vert muses, the older woman's voice sounding somewhat skeptical. You muffle a snort; oh, she ain't seen nothing yet. "But as long as Mojang and the rest are alright..."

"Exactly! Just- just sit tight, okay? Big sis is coming to help you!" Goddammit, you can't deal with the sheer good-heartedness gushing from Estelle right now. "No more splitting the party! We'll get our adventuring group up and running again!"

"Except for you, Lady Vert," Rokko interjects smoothly. You'll never get used to how /smooth/ her mental voice sounds without all that static gumming up her mechanical vocal chords or whatever. "It would be best if you stayed put. Leanbox needs you now, more than ever."'

"We'll see you in Planeptune, Urist!" Estelle chirrups, talking over Vert's protests. Before the connection cuts, you catch a bit of CPU Green Heart bellyaching about wanting to see her Mojang again.

... with a sigh, you lower the cellphone-slash-Key-Fragment monstrosity you'd been using to contact your friends. Right, well, at least you've got backup coming. Armok knows how long it'll take for them to get to Planeptune from Leanbox, but you can't help but feel a weight lift from your shoulders.

You turn to re-enter Neptune's room and nearly bump into Nepgear, who yelps and... just sort of hops out of the way, dodging you with ease. Sure, she was literally /just born/, but with that agility? She's definitely a freaking goddess.

"Oneechan!" The littlest Nep pokes her index fingers together, ignoring how that makes her ever-present immolating flames spark and sputter. "Sorry! I was trying to get your attention, but you were really wrapped up in your phone call, so..."

... shit, you can't even chew her out for standing so close behind you. Poor girl's got this aura of kicked puppy-ness or something. You shrug and look past her- where's everyone else?

"Um, oneechan and her friends left already," Nepgear replies, referring to her /literal/ big sister. "They're waiting down at the Sharicite node. So..."

It takes you a moment to process why she's holding her hand out to you. You blink at her big, guileless eyes before gingerly taking the taller girl's hand. Honestly, you're half-expecting the flames to leap over and turn you into a !!dwarf!!, but they're as harmless to you as they are to Nepgear.

Yeah, speaking of which- as you walk through the Planeptune Basilicom's halls, you take a moment to study Nepgear. It's surprisingly hard to get a read on the fledgling goddess; when she's not emoting insecurity or embarrassment or absolute horror, she tends to look... serenely cheerful, in a low-key sort of way. You don't know how much of that is because Nepgear is Nepgear, or because she's just too young to have a fully-formed personality. That little smile could be hiding anything.

Not for the first or last time, you pray desperately that Nepgear doesn't turn out anything like her big sister.

>CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
[ ] [NEPTUNE] Ask Nepgear's opinion of her big sister. Er, y'know, her actual literal big sister, not whatever-you-are to her.
[ ] [PLANEPTUNE] Ask Nepgear's opinion of her home country. She's one of the goddesses of this place, right? How's that working out?
[ ] [PLANS FOR THE FUTURE] What's Nepgear going to do once you get her synced to her country? She's not seriously thinking of coming back with you to the hyperdimensional void, right?
[ ] [ANSWER HER QUESTIONS] Nepgear's bound to have something on her mind, right? Offer to hear her out and answer her questions, now that you've got some temporary privacy.

You can dig trenches in frontal lobes

we all know that the reason every dwarf now has an axe is because of Gimli. but realisticly wich one would be more useful to a dwarf? the axe or the hammer wich both seems to be quite used depending on the setting.

The Pickaxe is the true and proper weapon of the Dwarf, being both tool and weapon fitting for their underground mining lifestyle.

i guess. then again hammers are also quite useful for dwarves more interesting in smithing than mining.

Last Episode: You returned to your homeland, and saved Ray's family from the People of Joy.
- - -
"How are we for ammunition?" Pytor asks, as you all gather inside the RV. Gaft is holding a bloody rag to his smashed nose.

"My brothers brought a few extra boxes." Ray says. "We've got enough to not be worried, but not enough to fight every last person here."

"I'm sorry, but I have my priorities," Amelia says. "We need to go help Naahma, and regroup with Councilman Rozen."

"And drive straight into a firefight." Gaft says. "There's a smarter way. I know how Augustus thinks. If we make a break for OLYMPUS then he'll have his Servants pull back from attacking what's left of Genesis."

"OLYMPUS is soaked in Fallout." Ray says. "We can't get there. THEY can't get there, you said so yourself."

Gaft nods. "Yes, but they're going to try, and they'll have equipment that I know how to properly use, also, we have Joy-In-Ashes." He nods at you. "It's not...exactly how I planned, but we should be able to make it inside. End this nightmare for everyone."

Ray shakes his head. "You said it was bad if they were able to use this Wren woman. Right?"

Gaft nods. "Joy-In-Thought is a terrible asset to hold, if they have a way to force her compliance."

"Well, they need to get her here first, right? There's only so many ways they can get into Genesis. Why don't we ambush them and free her?" Ray says. "Then they're truly stuck."

"It's a gamble." Pytor says.

Gaft mutters something under his breath. It's clear that Wren is not one of his favorite person. You narrow your eyes at him and he shuts up and presses his cloth closer to his face.

"With or without you," Amelia says. "I'm going to help my countrymen."

"You should be focused on helping the world." Gaft says.

"I will kick you myself if you keep talking old man." Amelia snaps.

The fortnightly Storythread returns, by some amazing coincidence two weeks to the day after the previous one was posted. The stars must have aligned just right, or something.

If you have /tg/ related stories to post, post them here, and hopefully some kind anon will give you feedback (or at least acknowledge that someone did actually read it, which let's face it is what writefags really want).

If you don't have a story ready then I and other anons will be posting pictures throughout the thread for you to test your writing skills on. This is, more or less, a world-building and character-building exercise: two vital skills for playing roleplaying games. If you don't have any pics to post, you could try posting an idea for a setting or a character, and maybe someone will be willing to write a story using it. It's also an exercise in writing though, where writefags can try out their material and gain inspiration, so if you just want to talk about world-building save it for the world-building threads.

Remember that writefags love to have feedback on their work. Writing takes a long time, especially stories that go over several posts, and it can be really depressing when no one even seems to read it (and the writer won't know you read it unless you leave a comment).

And since writing takes a long time remember to keep the thread bumped. Pics are good, feedback is better.

last week's thread can still be found in the catalogue here if you have any comments or anything about the stories there

Are there any large mechanical, or thematic differences between Western made table top rpgs and Japanese ones?
I've been looking for something a bit different to play.

>>
Thematically, they're all very animey. Heavy influence from JRPGs and such.

Mechanically, 90% use d6s only and they're often VERY gamey. Not necessarily crunchy, but very "rules centric" if it makes any sense, even the rules-light systems.
>>
>>47587253
We have d20. They have SRS. Both are shit.

As for differences, it's rather difficult to evaluate, since only a scarce few JTRPGs have been translated.
From what I can tell, there is more of a focus on structured sessions, with less emphasis on player agency and more on everyone fulfilling a more or less predetermined role. So it's less about the "what" and more about the "how".

The JTRPGs we have are all very different, so it's hard to find any commonalities.

Tenra Bansho Zero has a very out-there setting, in-depth rules for various character archetypes and mechanics for going through an entire character arc in a single session.
Golden Sky Stories is diceless and eschews adventure completely in favor of solving little everyday problems in a quiet backwater Japanese town as animal spirits.
Ryuutama is another feelgood RPG. It's about regular travelers instead of adventurers and heroes and makes travelling just as dangerous as fighting a monster. Its special feature is a GM character with clearly defined ways of influencing the PCs' actions.
Make You Kingdom is a very game-y and wacky dungeon crawling game with Kingdom building elements. Rather formalized gameplay.
Maid RPG is... Maid RPG. It's a lot of madcap nonsense and never intended as a "serious" RPG.
Double Cross, Night Wizard and Log Horizon are all SRS games, if not in name, then in spirit. They each try to be different, but they all have poorly thought out rules, hyper-specialized characters and a power selection with plenty of repeats.
>>
Not played most of these games, but I've read most of them.

Tenra Bansho Zero - Set up sort of like a kabuki drama and has an interesting thing that if you care "too much" about something, you go full on Darth Vader and turn to the Dark Side. So eventually, you're going to want to decide to "not care" about getting revenge on someone who killed your father. Meant to be OTT super anime awesome bullshit. I'm into the world, not so hot on the rules. One Shot did a game of this that's meant to be great.

Golden Sky Stories - I have a hard time thinking many people on /tg/ would be interested in playing this "properly". It's basically "My Neighbor Totoro: The Game". Probably great if your group was into anime and/or you might run games for kids and wanted something "safe".

Ryuutama - My personal favorite of the translated games. It's specifically created to help newbies learn to GM/play, so if you have friends who want to learn to GM or are turned off by your standard fantasy games, this would be a great one to introduce them to. Though it's "kid friendly", it's not a "kiddie" game. If you want to emulate something like Spice and Wolf, Final Fantasy (Crystal Chronicles and FFX are particularly on-point), or even Oregon Trail itself, this is perfect. The game is absolutely brutal in that sense. It's nicknamed "Miyazaki's Oregon Trail" for a reason. Even assuming you're not really into anime or JRPGs, it has no set-setting, so you and your group can build something more fitting of your taste - even if that ends up being grimdark.

Maid - Pure slapstick anime bullshit. (Lewd optional.) Random tables 5ever. Fun if you're in the mood for it, but it's generally KEK oneshot material. Pitch it as such.

Meikyuu Kingdom - Lots of random tables. Don't expect pure player agency, but if you don't mind the tables taking away your agency, it's somewhere between a parody dungeon crawl and a kingdom sim. Fun, but you have to know what you're getting into.

What gun do they have, and what do you balance the other basic troops to?

Thats the stupidest idea Ive ever heard, unless you want to kill the game by the making the armies even bigger than they already are and we all know how that turned out for WHFB.

If you're rebalancing the entire game, it doesn't matter what points value you balance around. If ratios and rules stay the same, people will just play at lower points values.

First, though, you have an extremely important decision to make, and I won't close this poll until the time comes to archive the session.

Soon, perhaps very soon, you are going to have the chance to play briefly as one of two women. These two are Red Siren and Clemmy. Whichever wins the poll will be the perspective character for some upcoming events...but be warned. The loser of that poll will be the antagonist when that happens, and just as you've seen these two people at their best, you can also see them at their worst. Both are good girls (for a given definition of "good") and both have sincere feelings for Roarke, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will like or be kind to each other.

The women steps through the noise ripping through the air, swinging her weird bladed whip. Johnny leans back, both of my bullets missing him and the other pirates. I grit my teeth and press my hat down, stepping back just before the whip thing swings around my head.

And only after that whole dance, do I actually here the sounds of this brawl. The cracking of the whip, the familiar bang of my revolvers, and that echoing bone shaking music Johnny strummed.

We stare eachother down again, the woman grabbing her whip and pulling against us, while Johnny holds his guitar in the air like it's an axe. I back away from them, keeping my shooters trained on them as they glare at me, and slowly do the same in a sort of unspoken agreement.

I glance between them, squinting as the sun gets in my eyes. The woman sighs, and glares at Johnny and me like we're trash...well she's right on the first one. And the Captain with the rooster looking hair just keeps on grinning like this is some sort of game, or he's just walking down the street for a cup of joe....I could really go for some coffee right now.

Frowning, I start to circle the other two, and they do the same. The world goes silent, except for the wind, the bird's singing, and the utterly massive fight happening just on the other street from us.

"Well, lets get this party started" Johnny chuckles

"Just give up all ready, I'm too tired to fight both of you" I yawn, trying to rub my aching eyes as the woman smirks

"Well then, just go lie down in a grave" She says rudely "And that goes to you to, idiot"

"Awww" Johnny sighs
