What's a fair punishment for stealing Halflings in civilized lands in 5e DnD Forgotten Realms? I need to know quickly.
You mean kidnapping? Im pretty sure the fair punishment is prison.
Alternately, stabbings by angry Halflings you just kidnapped when you sleep.

Halflings aren't people, anon. They are like... half people. Closer to pets if anything.

Here's a tip. You and your site rocks! Love it dude, keep up the good work.
MKIII didn't solve caster inequality.
There are so many more shit casters than in MKII.
The only thing that changed was that the stupid bonkers casters switched around with some getting nerfed to bonedust and other brought to just "good" tier.
Hopes and dreams shattered, boys.
It's only up from here, at least.
Is anyone still playing the Dresden Files game or is it dead?
Was there ever a DF game that didn't use the FATE system?
Looks really dead.
I liked the Dresden Files RPG. I think it died because it was tied to such a specific IP. And also because the FATE system isn't suited for being specific to an established universe, it's more oriented towards creating your own.
I don't believe there has been any other DF games, but I think World of Darkness and Unknown Armies kind of fill the modern magic on the streets genre. Plus their established settings seem far more varied and expansive than Harry Dresden's world.

Yeah, this is why I ran my game in gurps.
I couldn't fathom why the world specific ruleset was made; we had a resurrected centurion, black court diplomat/expat German, and a louisianna werepanther in one group. They kicked down doors, figured out the crime, and saved the girl... even when the girl was infected with mindflayer brainworms.

Music, they've been playing music for what seems like two days, even though it's probably been longer. The entire city is filled with it, and has been since word got out that Iris and I were going to go on our little trip. Accordions, trumpets, bagpipes, harps and pipe organs all playing the same dancing tune that I used to hear drifting faintly over the night sky.
I sigh and tilt my head, holding my her in two of my hands as I pack away another spare set of clothes for iris, folding it naturally as I go. Apparently Vera told half the city that Iris was going to leave, and they've been...well having a party since then. And Iris has been attending it with the rest of her family, even her mother, who's been having trouble looking either of us in the eye, since the "Incident". I giggle, remembering The Brausr's truly horrified expression when she was being treated like a helpless little kitten. Now that was truly delicious....and honestly I think her shame made the lust in the air all the sweeter.
I grin, closing up the last of the bags and falling over it with a sigh. And I still can't leave the castle, since Iris told me to wait here for her, and I don't want to accidently draw the brausr's ire by going out and reminding her about what happened.
I look down the stair case, at the empty main hall. the lights are all out, and there's not a soul to be found besides me, and a few whispering voices and touching hands that I hope are just my imagination.
I sigh and sit up, leaning against another one of the bags I've finished packing, all alone in the darkness.
Well this is boring, and boredom brings back bad memories and thoughts. I tap my fingers on my ample hips, as a burn runs through my veins and slowly makes it way down past my stomach, where it settles like a pot full of fire dully burning.

I groan, as the itching of the lust slowly spreading out of my "pot" as I lay back and wrap my wings around myself. I need to do something, anything. Make something, sing, dance, ruin some poor person's soul, fly around through the sky naked and free, read a book, take a bath, anything to get this soul sucking boredom away and gone, so I can go back to blissfully forgetting what I know. I smack my head with all four of my fists and roar in annoyance. And I can't leave the castle, so I can't go and find anyone to have fun with.
I whimper and hold myself...when I suddenly smell the faintest bit of lust on the air. I bolt up, and swear I hear something move somewhere in the darkness. M..must be my imagination. I giggle and wrap my wings around myself a bit tighter, making a wall of mirrors around myself and the bags, the golden orange light of my magic fading away as the walls rise up.
What do I do while I wait for iris to come back, so we can leave while everyone else is passed out or asleep?

This general is broken. Can we get a new one?
Anyone ever taken a frog familiar?
I'm thinking of playing a Lawful Evil character, don't really have much of an idea beyond that. Possibly considering trying out a Minotaur or Warforged, any ideas where I could go from there?
I'm usually just a Chaotic Neutral shitter, but I thought I might give LE a try since the friend that invited me to the game's playing LE, and the party is currently on a pirate ship.
What should be the true role of magic users?
Some people cast them as medieval style artillery, powerful but difficult.
Some people have them as support characters; able to greatly improve others by means of their spells and magical abilites.
Some people make them masters of utility, greatly reducing the need to lug around dumb equipment in favor of a clever mage.
Some people have them be a jack of all trades, can do anything but nothing spectacularly.
Some have them work the best as or with plot devices, vehicles of fate or momentum.
What do YOU like to cast them as? How do you feel they should be utilized?
>>48005477depends on the setting
but imo the coolest way to fluff them is to make them like lotr wizards. magic can do pretty much anything you want it to but it's dangerous to fuck with except for when you're in dire need
>>48005566
Got it in one.
Magic is super, super powerful, and there's basically nothing it can't do.
It's also super, super powerful, and even using it very humbly and properly carries an enormous risk of backfiring and screwing you horribly.
Think about, oh I dunno, a standard 20th century working stiff who suddenly acquires a Star Trek replicator and instructions for it. Sure, depending on their individual personality there might be a lot of variation in what they do initially, but how long do you really think it'll take them to fuck everything up Twilight Zone style?
I'm not a fan of 'magic can do everything better than mere plebs', so:
Magic is a skill you can learn.
The skill and practice it takes to do something magically is roughly equal to the skill and practice it takes to do something the regular way.
Learning to light a fire magically takes just as long as learning it the regular way.
You can develop your magical telekinesis to learn to lift a boulder... but it's exactly as difficult as it would be to work out and lift weights until you were capable of lifting a boulder.
The role of magic and magicians is that magic doesn't care how physically strong you are, so it's a common thing to learn for the frail, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged.
If you had to name your group /tg/, what would it be?

Someone else in my group came up with this, but we're the Esoteric Order of Facepalm.
Booze and stupidity.
Space recoils around the Cortez as you examine the status of your agent. The ship scans the system, finding only the Valen activity as construction of the local hypergate continues. The ship begins to accelerate into the system through the thick debris fields as a leisurely pace. Commander Grey clicks the intercom at the side of her chair.
"Overwrite the safeties and begin pressurizing cargo bays twelve and thirteen." She says. There is an abrupt response from Calhoun.
"You do remember those are the ones with the breaches, commander?"
"Yes, exactly. I want the damage to this ship to look as severe as possible. Get us venting atmosphere as we approach the planet. We're an unscheduled arrival in a very sensitive system. We can claim we require air and water to top off our reserves, and a dock to perform repairs."
"Aye, I can heat up the thermal ducts in the cap too, get the water tanks bleeding a bit."
"Anything to make us look worse than we are." Grey says. "What is the status of that pod?"
"Loaded and ready to drop, although if I may ask.... why?" Calhoun says cautiously.
"You may not ask." Grey replies, and cuts off the channel. She turns to agent Devon sitting strapped in a seat by a terminal on the far way. "You may observe from here, but we will be leaving the dirty work to the ground team. Once we get close we can orbit around and perform a long range drop and let Mauser drift in from orbit while we coast through high orbit to the docks and launch a shuttle from the far side of the planet. We should easily be able to pose as a ship losing power, have Mauser land planetside to do his job while Calhoun keeps a holding pattern in the shuttle."

This doesn't make evwn a modicum of sense. Care to put some effort and rephrase that word salad you got?
If there's no established setting, there's no answer that could possibly be worth giving. It's up to the OPs to specify, because no real generic genre settings exist.
Welcome everyone, new and old players alike! This is Tundra civ, a civ thread series in a fictional, non-fantasy setting where you play as the rulers of the White Republic, a nation in a world similar to our own.

And an archive of previous threads if you want to skim through some of them.

Previously on Tundra civ:
Technology has progressed to a level roughly equivalent of Earth's early 1980s. A major international crisis occured when the Pajashian archipelago rebelled from the NPU and became a host of terrorists and pirates - swift action came from the White Republic. Intense aerial campaigns eventually led to our forces securing what was left from the archipelago, devastated by a variety of modern weaponry. The crisis only deepend when the Republic announced it will not be returning the islands to their original owner, the NPU.
The election of the Veitan Congressman Rog Boul as president in 1219 led to an improvement in international trade and a reduction in tensions as our military presence in the Paj Ocean was limited.
It is now the year 1221 After the Exile.

Learning to use Photoshop now. Here's a really rough map of the Paj Ocean to give an idea of positioning, since it's an area not covered in the world map.
When I start my fantasy civ quest on /qst/ sometime in the near future I'll be using Photoshop for maps and shit probably.
I've got a concept for the world and its continents and most of the starting lore and races, now I need to figure out how to make the mechanics I have planned - while in Tundra civ players sort of take the role of the ruling senators of the nation and such, the fantasy civ would have players be members/leaders of various factions within our civilization that can work together or against each other, vying for prestige, influence, wealth and jointly guiding the civilization's progression.

What other modes of rule besides feudalism existed in the middle-ages/Renaissance?
>>48007103
Tribalism, merchant republics, theocracies, but strong emerging centralist monarchs are your primary and influential government systems coming into the Renaissance/post renaissance. Hgih middle ages were primarily some form of feudalistic, depending on the culture. Early middle ages had a mess of government systems. If you're running a realistic campaign, figure out where and when you want to run your game. If not, you can take from all sorts of old government styles. I wouldn't limit yourself out of some pseudo-democracies or government systems that would be dating themselves or are foreward-thinking for your world.
Republics also existed.
