Do you agree with the philosophy of AD&D?
>>54922372
>this reduces the character to a collection of combat modifiers
surely the rules of D&D do that anyway given that's what the character sheet almost entirely consists of
>>54922372
>He will discover the drawback of min/maxing
No, he will discover that no matter how much you min/max you canĀ“t beat the master.
I disagree with any philosophy to GMing where the solution to a problem is "be passive aggressive" instead of "Talk to the player like an adult"
I pondered over this matter for a long time now and I have come to ask your opinions on it.
Should some rolls (made by the PCs) be rolled by the GM in order for the result to be hidden from the player ?
Now I'm not suggesting this to be done in all types of games or all situations but hear me out : in an atmospheric/horror game, in the context of an enigma or while the players investigate a crime or mystery, wouldn't it be more interesting to have the subjective rolls hidden from the PCs ?
i.e.
>PC is trying to decypher an unknown language
>PC is trying to find out if someone is lying
>PC is looking for an object in a room
If those were rolled behind the GM's screen, the PC would have no way of telling if he succeeded and therefore is right or if he failed and is mistaken, which prevents metagame and adds to the atmosphere of the game.
What do you think about it ? I feel like it could be frustrating for the players if you did this too often or that it could lead them on what action actually brings them closer to the solution/danger if you do it only at precise moments when the result matters.
Just do it every time on checks where success/failure isn't obvious. If your system has passive skills, also occasionally pause for a moment and roll absolutely nothing to avoid the Xenogears/Skies of Arcadia effect.
>>54922289
Yes.
Ideally, all rolls would be made by the GM in secret, at least for immersion and player/character knowledge disconnect. But players want to roll dice.
>>54922289
If knowing result would make roll meaningless (pretty much all checks to gather information), you should roll in secret. Exception is when it is not important, like more lighthearted or action-focused games.

What is your primary weapon Jumpers?
Sailor Moon Update!
1.1 Fixed formatting, gave the doc HD look, added clarification to some perks/drawbacks, buffed Time Key so it can stabilize big space time distortions instead of small ones, Enemy Of The Moon Kingdom drawback is now +600 CP instead of +500 CP, Another Story Drawback has your Opposito Senshi self as a companion reward for Senshi Jumpers, Finally added a scenario for evil/antihero jumpers, extended drawback limit as there was a lot more stuff one could get in this jump as compared to regular jumps, canon companions are now 200 CP, extended Drawback Limit because this jump has a LOT to offer.I'm going to work on a jump for The Witches by Roald Dahl next

Nice.
Thanks for your hard work Nika.
Why is removal still a thing?
So the game isn't just a race between proactive elements.
Because I don't want to sit through your infinite creature combo.
>>54922060
... It would be more likely to be a mid range fest to be exact.
RDW needs the removal to punch through defenses and to make the final play of attacking and losing half your creatures win the game.

Yeah, they still do some shit people don't like (like "Primaris can only fit in these new vehicles we obviously want you to buy"), but overall they're doing a lot more stuff the fans have reason to get excited for. Even finally switching to something that isn't based on the same 3rd-7th edition rules and giving everyone indexes as a starting point is nice. Codex armies probably have an advantage, but not one that seems as bad as just the old codex creep of the the last several editions. And the community site having news everyday is like a whole new GW.

The poll concerns how often you run pre-published modules, as opposed to creating your own adventures to run. If possible, I'd also like to know what systems you usually run, but that's less essential.
Thanks to anyone who participates.

why warriors have to fall off in late game
if mages can become master of fucking angels and timestop why cant warriors become being so strong that they could crush a siege golem with a punch

Have you tried not playing DnD?
>>54920720
tell me one system where mages are not op and warriors become meat to be sacrificed
>>54920704
To be fair,
there was this idea that every being who "level ups" in reality just gets a better tap into the universe,
the only difference being Mages actually understand it , while warriors just channel it into themselves like a sponge.
So both get stronger in the same way which is also different
What offers of power have you tempted players with? What would the catch have been, or how did it play out if the bargain was accepted?
>>54920388
a powerful alchemist offered them connections to his order in exchange for their loyalty. they were given a poison that would kill them at a predetermined date and he would only offer them the antidote if they proved their worth to him
they betrayed him instantly, severed ties with him, and now they roam the lands with a random minor miniboss he told them to kill, none of them knowing the first thing about curing the poisons that would kill them all
>>54920388
>pic related
Probably one of the best examples of a neutral villian done correctly.
>>54920388
Got tempted by the setting's version of the devil with an amazing magical greatsword that looked just like the one my character had lost a year before. The issue is that the tempter had the most nebulous "I want your soul" condition and refused to explain exactly what that meant. He wouldn't put it in writing, wouldn't tell my character when possession would be transferred, wouldn't say what happens to my corporeal body, and wouldn't explain any fine print.
My character was a detail obsessed mercenary, so he turned the offer down.

Kinetic shield can't block an uratha bite
>>54919793
>I will regret taking the bait...
What about that sidebar from Forsaken in any way implies that a Kinetic Shield couldn't stop a woof bite?
If Alchemist's Touch is the template for Kinetic Shield, the fact that an substance/force is not entirely mundane is immaterial. If using the suggested rules in Creative Thaumaturgy, then the Shielding spell, at worst, would protect as usual against Potency number of supernatural attacks before the spell needs to be recast. As CofD basically has a hard rule of only one attack a turn, the spell is more than sufficient to deal with a Schnauzer with delusions of grandeur.
Also, all the woof angst about a single possible Forces 2 spell is amusing. Many mages can dish out a lot more supernatural mojo than apprentice-level spells from a single Arcanum. What's that woof going to do when that same mage with Forces 2 decides to negate gravity?
In any event, werewolves are indeed capable of fighting mages, although the odds will generally not be even. However, using a direct tooth and claw strategy against a mage proficient in controlling the energies of the universe is just plain dumb, if not suicidal.
>Given these endless discussions, I wouldn't be surprised if the rote for a kinetic shield would be called "Fuck U Garou."
>>54919793
Let's not do this again. Please. Just rule it however you want at your own table and leave others alone.
Which defense mechanic do you think is better for defending yourself from damage?
An active defense where offense and defense roll and whoever rolls better determines whether or not defense takes damage or not (ShadowRun)
or
A passive defense where your defense score makes it harder for offense to damage you, either because they have to roll over a target number (D&D) or because your defense score took away dice for them to use for their action (nWoD).
Which do you prefer?
>>54918884
Why not both? Just make passive defense into damage resistance instead of armor class.
>>54918884
I prefer passive, but only because I have a lot of players and passive is slightly faster to resolve. That's it, really.
>>54918884
It depends a lot on the system. For simple single action attack vs defence rolls, passive is best for streamlining things.
However, Legends of the Wulin (a fascinating but troubled system) essentially requires active defence, as the system's unusual use of dice pools allows you to make multiple actions on a single roll, with different final values.
Active defence in this case isn't just a matter of rolling to get a number, it's also about decision making- If you're facing two or three different elements of an attack, and you only have the means to stop one or two of them, there's real depth that's added to the system as you consider how to best allocate your defensive resources, and this couldn't really be replicated with static defence values in the same way.
>the villain is a pimp
How can I get my players to treat him seriously?
the first encounter being the pimp brutally murdering a working girl is probably the easiest way
You count on them not taking him seriously, and then you fuck them for it.
Possibly literally.
So, why the flamboyant outfit? Pimps where I live dress like normal and have a bunch of heavy hitters dudes when there is trouble, and employ hundred of prostitutes (or thousands the big ones). It seems a way to alert the police about what are you doing.
So how long do you suppose until they re-release various chaptermasters and other special characters and give them the Primaris upgrade. Do you think they would take it or would that mess up the fluff for them (i.e Dante or Mephiston for example)
>>54916374
>or would that mess up the fluff for them
You can already make Bobby G's favorite boytoy Cato Sicarius as a Primaris, but then again he's an easy conversion

Hew WIP, quick question. So for the priest that will go with my Arco Flaggelents I want to do something like pic related. I know having two chain swords provides no mechanical advantage, but I kinda like the rip n tear feel of it. Fluff wise he'd be a penitant priest whose leading the flaggelents seeking redemption. You think that's a decent idea and look for the priest, or does it seem a little too similar to the Arco Flaggelents?
Base layers and washes for my Murderfiend. I'm making good progress and i really like the white scheme for my World Eaters.

I think it's fine and fits well. I mean, he has probably spent a lot of time with those flaggelents, so of course he picked up some of their habids, etc.
