So discussion topic of the now: How great are rural traps? So great. But should your Kaiu Engineer be allowed to know how to make a tiger trap because he knows how to build a house? Can you just duel your GM to get your way? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

Rural traps are great for both capturing/killing game or humans. The Kaiu were never really as good at hunting as the Hiruma, but might have some study in what those nutters do. Abuse the duel and the GM has that one guy with a skill of fuck you, I win crush you like an ant. The world may never know.

It's Grendel again. Most of the story follows this guy, Hunter Rose, also known as Grendel, a notorious crimelord who controls nearly all gang activity in New York. He's incredibly gifted, mentally and physically. He's basically what Bruce Wayne would've become if he had chosen to be a criminal, though there are quite a few differences, and Grendel has a lot more to offer than other evil Batman clones (looking at you, Nemesis).

Hunter is eventually killed by his archnemesis, Argent, a Native American werewolf. After that, the story continues to the far future as it follows various others who take on the Grendel identity and how they use it through the centuries.

It's a pretty fun comic, very noir, very light on the superhero aspect. Grendel has a mask and... that's basically it. There's some other stuff too, like how Hunter and the others might actually be possessed by a demon that makes them insane and violent.

I'm making an RPG where the characters are part of a village in a post-black-plague fantasy zombie apocalypse with tons of weird undead out there.

I want to make mechanics that focus on the village with characters spending downtime and having Downtime abilities to improve the village.

Population basically functions as hit points for the village and each month there is a roll on the Fortune table to see what happens (Drought, raids, etc)

One thing I am trying to decide is whether to use boring old spell points, or to do an at-will / daily system for spellcasting. Spell points are nice but you have to remember different costs for different spells and you also have to erase and rewrite the number of points almost constantly.

The at-will / daily system would be basically you know X spells, the daily spells are shit like light and magic missile type of spells, as well as some slightly more powerful attack spells (obviously no healing since they can be done at will), and then daily spells can each be cast only once. You cannot double up on a daily spell. So if you cast a Fireball or a Time Stop, that'd be it for the day for that particular spell. Also a lot of the more powerful spells have downsides. Like the only kill spell in the game has a pretty significant chance of also killing the caster, and there is no resurrection.

Basically I am going for low fantasy with lots of resource management and stuff. Any advice? Yes I have read the Quiet Year I've got a 50 page work in progress game but I always appreciate ideas and feedback.

If low fantasy, definitely at-will/daily. Spell points makes magic more flexible and can be more common, which hurts the low fantasy feel.

The bone crushers pride themselves on strength. They will hunt powerful enemies that they consider worthy opponents. Once the prey is dead the orc takes the bones and grinds them up and wears it into battle as it was warpaint. It is said that some of the strongest of the clan wears ground up dragon bone.

So, my group are all MASSIVE Weebs. Still, it's not all bad. They are fans of Ghost in the Shell so when I suggested that we run an Interface Zero campaign set in Nagasaki, Japan they were all for it.

Trouble is, I'm no where NEAR enough of a Weeb to have the culture down and get the "feel" right.

Still. I'm going to give my best effort. Setting this in Nagasaki is actually kind of an out for me since it's the one place where the Neo-Shogunate allows Foreigners in large numbers so Nagasaki is quite a bit more cosmopolitan that Japanese cities today.


That said, are there any pointers you can give me to get the "feel' of the setting right?

Japanese Megacorps may act prim and proper compared to the Robber Barons and Wall Street Wolves of the West, but a Megacorp is still a Megacorp. You don't get to be top dog by playing nice. Under their veneer of civility Japanese Megas are just as vicious and cut-throat as their Western counterparts.

A good early mission would be one where the PCs work as leg-breakers for a Loan Shark.

Since the other thread actually went somewhere, what are some goods or services aquatic races like mermaids, sahuagin, or sea elves might provide to coastal surface dwellers? What might they be given in exchange? How could these change the systems land-dwellers use for coastal businesses and shipping?

Examples from last thread include

deepsea products would be a good export. Rare fish and products from underwater creatures that are not otherwise available for surface dwellers. My PCs don't yet know that the base of the pudding so common in my setting was made from the waste excrement from sea cucumbers, but they will find out soon. Preferably after everyone has had at least one serving.

That and imagine what you could do in a fantasy setting. Maybe they maintain special oysters and feed them special sediment that turns into unique sorts of pearls for magic/alchemical uses.

The only reasons the humans can't do it is because the Merfolk can dive down to where they are situated at with ease and possibly have predators that will attack non merfolk.
