Use the rules for aquatic combat /3d combat in the book of planes. Beyond that, I think there were rules about combat on shipdecks and some ship stats but I fail to remember where I read those. Maybe in a dragon mag?

It seems like more now than before the automatic assumption on /tg/ is that most PCs are fantasy murderhobos but I haven't played a murderhobo since I was juvenile and none of my fellows play murderhobos. My players are fun in that they like to surprise me. I've GM'd with them a couple years now, so I like to think I have them pretty down pat you know? After a couple of campaigns you tend to get to understand who they are what they want to play. When I offered to GM Deathwatch after our last campaign ended, I was happy to run a dumb game with no complex story lines or much beyond a down and dirty dungeon crawl. It's pretty cool, they've even made miniatures for their characters from a box of Deathwatch minis which I thought was dope since I used a lot of my own 40k figs for the enemies.

Character generation was simple, used point buy, the core rulebook, and let them take options from the First Founding book since it was the only other hard copy book we had at the start. Gave a once over the character sheets and it all checked out mathwise, not that I didn't trust them but it was a new system. The players made characters from the basic chapters offered in the core book and were as follows:

>Marcus Invictus, Ultramarine Tactical Marine who was Squad Sergeant back in his old chapter and believed in war.
>Bellerophon, Blood Angel Tactical Marine who was known as the monster slayer back home.
>Logan Wulfsbad, straight up named Logan, Space Wolf Longfang (Devastator) who was a veteran and serving the Deathwatch a second to settle an old debt.
>Cadmus, Dark Angel Assault Marine sent by his chapter to hunt something...
>Wilhelm, Black Templar Assault Marine who just volunteered for his third mission to the Deathwatch because he just loves killing aliens.

All in all I thought it was a pretty generic group who would end up in the Jericho reach being action heroes, spouting one liners, and tracking to rack up the most kills. I sent them to cut their teeth against Tyranids. My mistake was the classic blunder, third only behind an attrition war with Tyranids, and giving That Guy a chance to roll to seduce. I showed them a small child in need of protection.

forgive me if my story time sucks but I'm not a funny writer or probably that good a GM, but I wanna tell you about this /tg/

Pretty run of the mill mission to drop pod down, meet up with an Inquisitor fighting Nids in need of rescue, and shoot their way out. They landed in the planet capital right in a shrine to the Emperor. Their destination was the the Palace where the Inquisitor was holed up waiting for extraction, pretty much a straight shot except for the giant kaiju Tyranid tearing up the city. After securing the Shrine, the players began to move out except for the Black Templar who insisted on stopping to pray. When asked why, Wilhelm replied, "I am praying for Mercy."

"Why Templar, are you afraid?" Cadmus sneered as he let loose his Raven to guide the way.

"I pray for God-Emperor to have mercy upon the Xeno scum, for I shall not." Pretty good one liner and they were off not long after. As they moved out the Dark Angel and Blood Angel bickered over the way to go and I learned the Blood Angel was in fact still a fucking scout. Straight up nineteen years old scout in carapace armor with a sniper rifle. After pausing to talk with the player because I honestly overlooked it, we decided Bellerophon had just completed his final implantation but just liked being a scout since he was an A grade scout sniper. Cadmus wanted to talk the mad ways which were basically highways attached to the high rise towers and were more or less clear since the invasion hit the capital. Bellerophon wanted to take the ground for cover and less likely to get sent screaming to the ground when 'the Xeno the size of the moon decides to use a high rise as a tooth pick to clean the guardsmen out of its teeth.' Age before wisdom, Marcus as leader decided that the Dark Angel was more likely to know about going fast to places where they could kill stuff good.

Marcus though out this part of the story was regaling the squad with various lessons from the codex because he believed that it would prepare them for inevitability of war. Logan after about the third chapter while they stopped to move another fucking car out of the way on the highway that was apparently evacuated mid rush hour told him exactly where he could put the Codex Astartes. Wilhelm chimed in in agreement about how the Codex likely didn't even include sections of the Tyranids considering how new the damn things were, which only Prompted Marcus to replied in depth about how the Codex knew ALL ABOUT the Tyranids now. In fact, he hoped to add new sections to the book based on what he learned during the Deahtwatch.

Right before Logan was about to remind him where he could once more put the codex, Cadmus thankfully interrupted by announcing, "The wind sleeps. The hunt awakens."

Bellerophon, still sore about not having his advice taken, looks from his position as rear guard and aims his rifle over the edge. For a moment the Blood Angel paused before looking deciding the scope was not helping actually. A momentary confusion took him as he realized what the hell he was looking at, and so did the rest of the squad. "The less than metaphorical jackass means that we've been spotted." Indeed they had, because on the other side of the high rise tower through the glass windows a magnificent yellow eye could be spotted staring at them.

"How the hell did that sneak up on us?" Marcus asked aloud.

"Must not have heard it over the sound of you not shutting up about your blasted codex," Wilhelm supplied the answer.

Doesn't look like there's much interest in this, so I'll make one more post and see if anyone is reading.

Uncountable tons of muscle and hate shaped by the heart of a mind so cruel it would drive man mad to understand, the kaiju began to lean against the building while my players cursed their utterly terrible Awarness rolls that were quite frankly all embarrassingly high. The kaiju itself was not dead on them; rather is was within several blocks but had begun to approach the players right as Cadmus noticed it and before long it was upon them. Seizing whatever initiative there was to be found, the Kill-Team began to make a run for it like it was Prometheus and just kept running down the highway as if that was a feasible option.

The Kaiju's sheer mass forced the high rise to lean dangerously before snapping under the bio-titans bulk. With it went the support for the highway which started to crumble with it, and so too did any attempt by Bellerophon from restraining his own smugness. Screams of I told you so could be heard as the time jumped from one crumbling chunk of high way to another just before they fell kilometers to the ground below. Still the kaiju pushed onwards until part of his titanic size was partially underneath the shattering highway and my players came upon a brilliant plan. "Jump!" Marcus announced just before a convenient explosion created a cool spectacle behind them, and propelled them onto the Kaiju's spined back.

I need help /tg/ how do I deal with a player who keeps trying to be the center of attention? I'm DMing a 5e campaign and everyone else is well versed in the game but this guy isn't. He's wanted to play for a while now so I figured I'd let him join my next campaign. He got his desire to play the game from le nat20 memes and such and frequently misunderstands the rules and how rolls work which is frustrating in itself, but the real problem is his frustrating tendency to want to be the 'main character' so to speak:

>Gets mad when he doesn't get the killing blow on enemies
>Hoards magical items for himself instead of sharing them among the group
>In combat acts independently of other players instead of working with them as a team
>Describes overly elaborate attacks and gets annoyed when, due to his rolls, those attacks don't kill the enemy like how he described
>Undermines my DM authority and declares actions as though they've already happened
>Freaks out every time he rolls a natural 20
>Every time another player is doing something interesting or the plot is focusing on them insists that he's there or tries to insert himself into it in some way
>Frequently tries to insert his backstory into scenarios and character who aren't related to it
>Reasonably sure he's cheating and purposefully miscounting his spell slots, money, ammunition etc to give himself an advantage over the others

I've tried explaining to him that the game is about the group and not the individual and he seems to understand but then goes right back into his behavior. I don't want to kick him either as while I'm frustrated by him it's not so bad that I feel justified in kicking him. Furthermore I enjoy his company outside the game it's just in game that he acts like this. I know that he's still new to the game so I figure I can still wean him out of his misconceptions and shitty behavior regarding the game but how do I do this?

>>55410146
I'd just tell him to shape up or ship out, and to stop being such an attention whore, but you like the guy and want his friendship.

My advice is let it pass. Treat him as what he is: a child with a new toy. Be firm, let him know that his actions are decreasing everybody elses' fun, but don't censure him too harshly and understand that his behavior will eventually wear off as he grows more experienced.
>>
>>55410180
>but you like the guy and want his friendship.
Well to clarify he's been a good friend of mine for years. And yeah I suppose I'll have to give your suggestion a go. It's just that it's been 6 sessions at this point and this is the sort of stuff that I thought would naturally stop around the 2nd once he saw what the game was actually like.
>>
>>55410791
Then you're going to have to put on your shrink hat and get to the bottom of WHY your friend is an attention whore. Resolve that issue and your problem will likely fade.

What's your opinion on having music on during a campaign?
19 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>55409791
I always use music in my campaigns. I have a ton of soundtracks from movies, TV shows, and video games, and I like to sift through those to put together a few playlists for different types of scenes, themed to the tone of the campaign. Or at the very least, I find a particular track I can loop for a given segment.

If I can't find something in my existing library, I search around online.
>>
>>55410378
That sounds really nice.
Do the players ever find it distracting/offputting?
>>
>>55410543
Not him, but finding good combat music that isn't " EPIC FINAL BATTLE MIX FOR GAMERS," or something similar, is near impossible, no one seems to post simple fight music for encounters.

I usually spend my Fridays at a local hobby store playing D&D and MTG. Over the years I have been playing there, I got a crush on one of the employees, A. She has a boyfriend, R, but I felt like I had to say something or I'd regret it, so I did.

She told me she was "flattered" but not interested. I'm not the type to give up, and my dad told me persistence pays off, so I started bringing her flowers every day. Both at her work and her apartment. (I didn't stalk her, She lives close to the store and I've seen her walk home a few times.)

She took me aside on Monday and told me that she felt it would be best if I dropped out of the D&D group she runs for the store. I asked her if she was also kicking R out of the group, she said no, claiming that I was harassing her.

Tuesday I went in and complained to the store owner, telling him about the situation, and how it's unfair that she is kicking me for having feelings for her, but not her boyfriend. I told him how unprofessional it is to hang out with her boyfriend at work. The owner told me he'd "investigate" and asked for my phone number so he could get back to me.

This morning I got a phone call from him, that after speaking with A and the other employees, I'm 'harassing' her, and he's decided to ban me from the store. I tried to tell him they were lying to him but he hung up on me.

I want to sue him for punishing me for something I didn't do. Is there a specific type of attorney that specializes in this? Does the fact that I'm black and the rest of them are white give me any grounds for a discrimination lawsuit?

You'd be able to hire a lawyer against them but it's really unlikely you'll be able to win anything. The management has the right to refuse entry and continuing to give flowers to someone who doesn't want then can be construed as harassment.

This isn't to say you don't have a case, but it is unlikely you'll succeed in it.

If you do succeed you'll be able to claim for losses suffered as a result of the banning from the store, which would be not money but being allowed back into the store. Meanwhile you would not recoup the lawyers fees which would reach into the thousands to tens of thousands of dollars.

So I'm gonna play Pendragon as a knight, my dear elegan/tg/entlemen. Altough I proposed to GM another game it's a pretty nice thing, wanted to play it for years

I'm here to ask you about what to expect that isn't apparent. I DID read the base game... one year ago or something, but while I do have a clear idea of the setting, the expectations, what we're gonna do, I'm not sure about the subtler things that the mechanics will shock us with.
For example, is the combat hard? What are the musts regarding skills and whatever?

Also: what are good ways to make the knights memorable?

If not, Pendragon general.

Don't worry, pic not related, women in armor don't exist (so do foreign knights, gonna start with early chronology - kinda wanted to do my best saracen Morgan Freeman impression but whatever).

Did you know that author and his knight of the round table were example of failed knight?
>>
If this is the Pendragon General, A) we should have them more often, and B) can somebody look this character creation outline over and see if it's a workable document to hand to my PCs? I'm not new to GMing in the slightest, but I *am* new to GMing Pendragon specifically. Veteran eyes would be helpful.

I'm about to start the Great Pendragon Campaign, I'm using the 5.1 rulebook (which is practically impossible to find in book form, btw), and I created the outline to help my players through the process. Everyone is still going to start with a Salisbury manor, and start with the skillset of a Cymric Knight.

Warning: it does include some house rules:
>there's some customization points to have limited control over dice rolls
>I've added back in variable Father Social Classes (from 4e) with some mechanical effects, but without controlling your starting Skill Points, which was totally broken in the older edition
>I'm adding back in some alternative lineages aside from Cymric (Roman and "Norse", which are really of Saxon lineage, but who don't fall under the Hate[Saxon] Passion; both are also from 4e), mostly because IMO the Roman lineage should never have been removed, and because one player is a new-to-RPGs guy who will really want to play "totally not Ragnar Lothbrok in Arthurian England".
>Attribute point-buy is increased from 60 to 65 points, or PCs can choose to roll 4d6 drop low
>Clarified that your family required both a Male and Female Characteristic, and tweaked the tables slightly. I do have one near-SJW at the table, so female knights are a - RARE - thing.

The reason for the house rules are because I feel that a ton of the interesting variability in PC creation was removed in the switch from 4e to 5e. Granted, I also feel that 4e had TOO much variability (all the different homelands and lineages), so I'm trying to strike a central balance point between the two.

Am I hitting the order of operations correctly, and/or am I missing anything really huge?
