/tg/s thoughts on the GiantitP Forums?
68 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
My thoughts are that it's not for me, but I'm an adult, so I don't froth at the mouth about other sites.
>>
One thing I do find odd about it is that it often only seems to take one minority opinion to hi-jack an entire thread. Not anything offensive or aggressive since the mods will ban that sort of thing but just an opinion about rpgs which the majority of people on the board disagree with. When it happens a lot of the time it seems to result in the entire thread becoming about everyone criticizing that one poster and them arguing back with no further discussion on the original topic.

Have you ever been in a fight, /tg/?

I don't mean a shoving match over some perceived insult. I'm talking about sudden violence that appears intended to do real harm, possibly kill you.

Heroes are not affected much by this and continue to quip and banter while mechanically calculating the outcome of the fight and looking for a weakness. This isn't how people work though.

In real life you get adrenaline shooting through your veins. Your perception narrows. You hear the blood rushing through your ears. Your hands tremble in anticipation. And the lizard part of your brain makes the decisions for a while.

This is good in an all out fight. It makes you faster and stronger, more willing to push any advantage, maybe even a bit bloodthirsty. But it does impede reasoning. It removes social solutions from the options available. And consequences be damned. If you try to kill me then I kill you.

So is there a system that renders this in mechanics somehow? Are there rules that lower a character's int/wis and increase their str/dex when so affected? Is there a sanity system that influences these stats, not in the long run, but in the situation?

In short, is there something between the nonchalance of fighting heroes and the blind fury of a berserker rage?

No set of mechanics is going to make up for simply roleplaying these things correctly. In fact, they'd probably just get in the way, or be reduced to min-maxing calculations like everything else.
>>
>>48158620
I'm also interested in this.

As for being in a fight, yes. Got punched in the head until he broke his hand, hit him a few times in the stomach, then his friend drew a knife and well fuck that shit. Highschool was pretty ehh.

>>48158649
I don't know, surely you could do something. I don't see altering stats up and down being the answer though. Maybe something with altering initiative based on actions? Like if you're cool and calm you're more likely to go first, but if you give into the adrenaline you go more often? Might work best with one of those weird ass tick down initiative systems.

There is always delayed damage effects? Like you tick off the amount of health/wounds you take, but you suffer no ill effects until the next turn or two? Maybe keep it blind (would require a lot of book keeping, could probably limit it to the players themselves, since they'd be able to see the damage on an opponent but not necessarily themselves), so that you know you got hit, but you have no idea if you're hurt.

It really takes a dedicate role-player to act out things that harm the character's tactical position. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it isn't likely to happen in a game. You might as well remove HP and just play out damage. No, this requires mechanics.

Rules getting in the way or being reduced to min maxing shenanigans is always an issue. Sometimes making the rules better helps. But generally if you have players who are so inclined, change groups. Or embrace the spirit and never worry about realism or immersion.

You are not Jadyk of the Wormstar. You have no name, only a title and a promise of great power. You are the wayward Voidknight Disciple and this is your greatest challenge.

Roiling clouds thick with oily water are illuminated in flashes of lightning, the storm raging over the dark continent. Thunder rumbled and shook the frame of the frigate as it raced away from the primitive city glowing with light and flames in the distance. There was another flash of lightning as it nearly struck the necrotic ship, a sensor cluster on the hull spotting a brief moment of something sailing above them.

The Think Tank joined with the ship barely has time to let out an alarm before something rocks the ship with impact. Pilot reconstructed, fused at the waist to their consoles work frantically before a holoscreen flashes before you. An eye cluster on an auxilliary autocannon rotating to spot a large shape clinging to the hull, twisted flesh and armored plates revealed in a flash of lightning before the weapon barks to life, unleashing a spray of burning metal at their hitchhiker. Great wings of folded flesh snap open and the beast disappears into the storm with a shriek.

Sensors could not detect the beast anymore, the frigate staying below the storm level where the even greater threat above could not spot them. You grumble as you sit in the command chair of bone and muscle and glance at the sealed canisters full of necrotic fluid pilfered from the grotesque city.

You are a Disciple of the Voidknight Order, a commander in the New Necrotic Armada. But you are lost, flung to the far reaches of the galaxy and you must prepare to return home.

Welcome back to Death Among the Stars Quest! We return from hiatus today to a special thread focusing on the wayward Disciple.

The Voidknight Disciple was part of the team overseeing the experiment in combining Skip and Void Drive capabilities. Due to an unexpected energy surge the frigate, and the cavern surrounding it, were flung into a distant portion of the galaxy. So far that it takes dedicated concentration from the Deep Rot itself to link with the Think Tanks brought along with the ship.

Their ship damaged and lacking proper fuel for any long term travel they approached the nearby system. Discovering a jovian world they stopped briefly to harvest fuel for the necrotic ship before traveling to a dark world hiding in the shadow of the asteroid belt. Protected by twin moons the planet was covered in dark ocean, the land jagged mountains, burning volcanoes and swamplands.

The lights of cities and smog of factories marked civilizations hold on the world. Knowing the need for a Cauldron to repair the ship and bolster their meager crew they descended through the clouds and discovered a world of hellish corruption. The Disciple could feel the presences of powerful necrotic energy, a beacon of profane power shining unseen through the storms.

What are /tg/'s thoughts on counterfeits? They could be for anything like MTG cards or 40k figures. Do you think fakes are ultimately good or bad for the game in the long run, and what would happen if they were to become indistinguishable from the real thing sometime in the future?
74 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I suppose it depends on the game.

In MTG I'm all for it.

Counterfeits only harm the secondary market (i.e. KikeCityGames) not Wizards themselves. If anything, counterfeits are good for the game since they lower the entry barrier.

My Legacy deck uses counterfeit duals and nobody has ever noticed.
>>
Well-made counterfeits benefit the players at the expense of the secondary market and the credibility of the manufacturer.

I'm willing to embrace it if the company has no regards for the players ability to play the game.

Two things:

1) The only thing more pathetic than collecting cardboard and paying money for it, is to pay money for fake cardboard in order to pretend it's real cardboard to fool people who spent real money on their real cardboard.

2) In 40k I'm all for recasts. Seriously, fuck games workshop. If I want a Craterhoof Behemoth, I can politely ask my flgs to order me one from wherever, or trade another player for it. If I want a named unique unit, I have to slurp games workshop's dick and order it through them. Fuck that jazz.

I'm not sure, anon. I've heard good things, and also heard that it's a shitty system by a stupid hipster who doesn't know how to design good games.

All I know right now is some interesting mechanics involves with the matching of dice and the like. Haven't seen how it plays though.

Given the art, and what I've seen on the free supplementary things, I can also see the the latter. A lot of odd different for difference sake thing. Maybe? Dunno that's why I'm asking.

The dice seems neat, but it's just never discussed.

My friends and I are thinking of trying to make a D&D comedy show type of thing. We basically want to make something like what we thought Big Bang Theory was going to be like when it first started out, before it descended into Bazinga hell. Basically we were hoping for it to be really really pitch black humor and horribly fucking depressing but also funny in a sick way. Almost like a fake-documentary type of movie, like the office. Like I just want a "nerd movie" that is actually honest and none of this fake "getting the girl at the end" shit. Like Zero Charisma, I fucking loved that movie because I know people like that and they are real and the movie did a spot-on job of portraying them.

Do you think this has any chance? We're kinda shit at acting but we do a lot of roleplaying which is basically method acting and if I wrote a script I really don't think it'd take that long to film. We also have some drawing / film-editing talents in our group.

Do you think this would be fun? My friend's gf had the idea and it's the kind of thing I've felt like doing for a while. I don't want it to be this campy sort of jokey thing, I wanted to really push the envelope and make it depressing but funny in a way.

Dunno how else to explain this / what else to say, but I'd like to hear your thoughts and see if I am totally out of line with this idea.

Start writing and recording and come back when you have something minor to show if you want people to become invested in an amateur project.
>>
Also if anyone knows of any similar movies I could watch I'd love some recommendations. I rememebr watching "the gamers" and stuff but it just seemed like basic D&D stereotypes for a lot of the jokes so it was kinda funny but it was the same basic humor we get at our table every week. It was okay but not what I wanted.

We were talking about BBT and how disappointed in it we were, I wanted a show where they were all literally r9k-tier kissless virgins who acted wicked autistic around women. Just because i think it has far more humor potential than any of these other shows. I like the IT crowd more but it was a completely different kind of humor and too surrealist. I want something like the Office except I want people to not know whether to laugh or cry and either feel sorry for the main characters or completely hate them (like Scott in Zero Charisma, or Miles, and by the end of that movie I liked Scott far more than Miles).
>>
There was an animated show like this. Can't remember it's name. Something like a town or something.

It was terrible.

If you're trying to bring back the "sad loser" stereotype for comedy purposes, you're alienating your main audience. Even just sprinkling a lame sitcom with geek references is a better idea, and that idea is terrible.

>tl;dr explain / advise / teach how to science your way to OP position in forum / text servers

So I've seen before some legendary breads where people have used either their knowledge of systems or their knowledge of irl science to help them out in regards to certain systems or games be it to troll those involved or just to cause mayhem. A few examples are the guy who made a steampunk ironman suit and silvernitrate (if i remember right) to royally fuck over a game with some snowflake furries, or the one anon who had made a character that speced so hard in int that they could take 0 damage from a galactic puncher. I can post the cap of the latter but I digress.

Point is if any anon can give advice on how to pull that off or if its simply a matter of circumstance, self research, or just a matter of gitgudscrub.
