You are Adrian Brown, a twenty five year-old third-year medical student living an otherwise normal American life in search of employment. That was until you woke up inside a derelict and demon-infested hospital with four other victims of short-term memory loss. Together, the five of you managed to somehow survive by negotiating with demons and defeating those that were not so amicable. And upon escaping, the all of you realized that it wasn’t as simple as that.

Task Force 666 a multinational organization dedicated to combating hostile demons and those that would use them for ill intentions. And the hellhole you just went through? That was your ‘job interview’, one that you passed with flying colors. When properly offered employment as an agent among the ranks, you accepted without too much hesitation or second thoughts. Duty to humanity and whatnot.

You are now a Devil Summoner in the service of the Task Force, and the de-facto leader of East Coast Operations Division IV Carina Squad. It is your duty to protect mankind from all threats involving the demonic, but how you choose to carry out your orders is entirely up to you. The choices you make shall not only affect those around you, but the fate of the entire world itself…

Grimore. A relic of old magic from the beginning of modern history, and one that has evolved through the passage of time. Once, they were simple scrolls of animal skin or papyrus, so very fragile and easily breakable. In the dark ages, warlocks carried with them thick tomes of vellum as they traversed through the Old World. And prior to the COMP’s debut in 1987, it was not uncommon for agents to carry incognito penny dreadfuls while on assignments.

But in spite of nearly four thousand years of human history, its purpose has remained the same:

The storage of a Devil Summoner’s demons.

“It’s been in use recently,” MacKay says, worryingly glancing towards the display. “The scanner’s picking up faint energy signatures and signs of activation. When it was first used, I can’t give you an exact date, but I can estimate that it was within the last few months. Perfectly within the timeline of the missing children.”

“And has it been in use ever since?” You demand. The ramifications of this new information are staggering. A million questions are burning holes in your pocket, namely how the hell an American history museum got its hands on a fucking grimore.

But you keep your calm. Besides, it would make for a poor sight to MacKay through the twenty agitated questions while in a public area.

The priest shakes its head. “No. Repeated uses would have given off a different reading. A singular activation, but the most logical purpose is quite disturbing.”

A chill goes down the back of your spine. “There were demons inside of those pages.”

He nods. “And it appears that they may have been errantly released from their bindings within the last few months.”

“And that’s not the worst of it yet,” Fitz grouses, pointing to the image on her COMP. “Each of those pages’ve got a summonin’ circle, yeah? But take a look ‘round the edges. I snapped a few pics and brought ‘em together…”

Only now do you notice that there are some sort of fragments that run along the corners. Errant designs, superfluous fragments of shapes and sketches that you figure to be without purpose or necessity.

“Okay, you see ‘em, right? Now watch this…”

You watch with rapt attention as Fitz manipulates the dials on her COMP. The six pages, each with their own intricate designs and circles, come together on the display. Like a jigsaw puzzle, the images slowly come together, incomplete designs and fragments forming a cohesive whole as they line up to form…

A bigger summoning circle. One that is, judging from the intricacy of the design and runes affixed to the circle, made especially for a powerful demon.

“This one is dormant,” She reports, dismissing the image from the display. “Hasn’t been used yet.”

“Wait, wait wait,” You mutter, trying to clear your head. Your mind’s starting to hurt at the influx of this new information. “Hold the fuck up. Yet?”

“Just as she meant it. It’s dormant,” MacKay grimly states, “There’s a faint undercurrent of energy that’s pulsing from it every few seconds, not quite unlike a heartbeat. We can’t tell what it is right now, but there’s definitely something trapped inside of those pages. And judging from the spikes on the graph, it’s quite powerful.”

...

You exhale, rubbing your temples as you process this information. “How powerful?” You eventually ask.

He looks uncertain before Fitz answers for him. “At least, if not slightly more, powerful as the snake guy we fought on the highway. Oreo somethin’ or other, the ones that those chuckefucks in Central think isn’t connected to the case.”

As MacKay begins to talk to her about why it’s bad to badmouth one’s superiors, you can feel the onset of a headache. From the six faded circles, you can deduce that there are least six demons of unknown species and malignant agenda are out somewhere in the town. Six demons that are, logically, the whole damn cause behind the kidnappings.

And within the pages of the whole damn grimoire, something else is lying dormant and just waiting to bust out. Or be let out. You’re not sure which is worse, of it getting out on its own or an external force letting the damn thing free. Something with enough power to match a demon that had five agents of the Task Force on the ropes.

…well things most certainly took a turn for the worse.

“But there’s some good news that we found from this clusterfuck,” Fitz inputs, the beginning of one of her smirks spreading across her face. “The energy readin’ from the smaller pages? Some of ‘em match up to the signatures we found in the supermarket and the orphanage the other day. Whatever came out of the display definitely left a lasting impression on the store. Who knows? There might be some demons that’ve set up shop somewhere over there.”

That gets your attention. “So can we confirm that demons have taken up residence in the grocery store?”

The priest nods. “That seems to be a strong likelihood. Now that we have all the information together, it’s time to plot a course of action.”

“I say we head out,” Fitz interjects, tapping her foot on the hardwood floor. “I mean, we’ve already got ourselves a tangible lead on the bastards that’re presumably responsible for this. Why waste anymore time putzin’ around here in this dusty-” Here, she pauses, sneezing into her sleeve. "-fuckin' hell. This dusty old building?"

The key to understanding current MTG price bumps is that this is not a speculative bubble. This is a rationalization of the market. When you have an extremely limited supply of cards and you have the demand that exists, as it does, these are absolutely where the prices should actually be. Speculation isn't driving these cards high, and so you shouldn't expect some kind of "bubble" to burst. There are only two things that are going to drive cards down:

1) Prices become so high that it genuinely causes people to stop playing. Which doesn't drive prices down so much as it imposes a ceiling on prices.

2) Wizards adopts a much more aggressive reprinting policy. But I don't believe Wizards has the kind of holistic view of the card economy or the kind of basic competence as a company to actually take the broad view and do something like that. They definitely haven't shown any signs of it when you look at things like the performance of MTGO. The most likely thing is that they won't address this problem until people start walking away from the game, and then it'll probably be too late.

Therefore: you should not expect prices to drop anytime soon on eternal and modern cards. It is much more likely that other cards will undergo similar price increases. And it's also important to keep in mind that this is not a Reserve List problem. This is a reprints problem in general. Wizards' reprints policy is just wildly insufficient for the game as it actually exists. They don't reprint cards and when they do reprint cards it's in tiny numbers that are completely disproportionate to demand. So don't expect price increases to be limited to Reserve List cards, and don't expect anything less than substantial and thoroughgoing reprints by Wizards to fix the problem.

You've had 15-20 years to get most of these cards. If you wanted them, why didn't you get them years ago?

Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. You are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy. The year is 285AC, two years after the Rebellion and a year after your return to Westeros.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

Eyes of wildfire. Your mother once called them that, shining with bright unyielding flame through light of day, murmuring in soft whispers of emerald flame even in the dark of moonless night. Passion was their spark, fanned by emotion into a roaring inferno that set your mind to unending drive and purpose. Of the past decade it felt the only time they were aflame was when your heart also burnt with anger. With hate. With desire for revenge. As emerald flame washes over the broken body of Lord Quentyn Qorgyle, you again feel that desire, that purpose, the need once more, your body pacing, arms never comfortable by your side or crossed in restless inaction. He was an ally, a friend in some regards, a rival in others. Another target upon your line that stood in such defiance against those that had wronged your family. Beside his bed sat your Maester, Benjin, who was quick at work setting his arm. Three broken bones in the left arm, he had landed on that side, his shield breaking the fall and potentially saving his life. His head was bloody and bruised where it had hit after, chest swollen from broken ribs, similarly bruised and heaving heavily even after Benjin had treated him with milk of the poppy, and his leg that had been pinned under the thrashing horse looked mangled, likely just as broken as his arm. He would walk again, he would hold a weapon again Benjin said, though without the usual confidence in his voice, a rare thing, a poor thing to your ears.

Ser Quellon Qorgyle stands over his bed, keeping his head in place as Maester Armenda, Prince Oberyn Martell’s maester, stitched his flesh together again. You can see the turmoil in his own eyes, less of a burning rage like your own but one of calculated anger. Others among the pavilion whispered it was a slight that Ser Cardyn Lantell had been awarded the victory despite such a dishonorable act, that eyes looked the other way. The chivalry and honor amongst Knights the Reach was known for, lost upon the moment.

The Dornishmen and women about you wore emotions upon their sleeves, obviously slighted, further pained. Though none so much as Lady Obara Santagar, and the two boys, Gulien and Arron, your passing pauses long enough to giving them passing looks in a different section of the tent, Obara seated with her face in her hands, tears streaming down her cheeks, Gulien hugged at his mother’s side tears of his own upon his cheeks, and Arron standing a bit off, eyes upon the floor his face a mask though a poor one still so obviously shocked and scared. Lady Ellaria Sand sits next to them, rubbing Obara’s back as she speaks with Prince Oberyn Martell, his arms are crossed upon his chest, one hand rubbing his face before looking back at you and making eye contact for a moment, pausing long enough to give you the symbol to stay and turning back to Quentyn’s family and begging leave, closing the curtain to the other side of the tent as he leaves. Long strides brings him to you, his fists clenched at his side, face worn in the same anger as your own.

“Come, walk with me,” he says simply as he passes by, pressing his hand upon your shoulder to hardly give you an option otherwise. He leads you outside behind the Qorgyle pavilion and paces a moment before stopping and gathering himself with his back turned and speaking, “I do not blame you for this but you will understand if my anger gets the better of me, yes?”

You sigh, rubbing the back of your neck where the hair had begun to grow again, “Yes Prince Oberyn.”

“What was done here was no mere accident, you saw it as well as I. Purpose was behind that lance, if he had not needed to stare Quentyn down I have little doubt he would instead stared at you,” Oberyn’s finger points at you as he turns, before slowly withdrawing and again rubbing his face, “Your enemies are not subtle Lord Malroy.”

“After that I could hardly call them otherwise,” you state simply, your fingers idly play with the rings upon your pinky finger, too restless to do simply sit, “Your brother… Obella knew nothing of what your spoke, I find myself knowing and understanding even less.”

“For good reason Lord Malroy. She did not need to know the perils you would face here in Highgarden. Do you truly think she would have let you go if she knew there was not one man here with intent to kill you, but rather seven?”

“But who amongst those seven? Lord Linden Langward for certain, his bannerman? Ser Cardyn…”

“Doran knew not either, merely that seven was the intention, men hide in shadows, away from prying eyes until they are given opportunity when they see valor, honor, history in fighting alongside the cause they may not even believe in…” Oberyn pauses and regards you fully, “Lord Malroy, do you recall your histories?”

“Of war, of battle. I was not the scholar amongst my brothers,” you respond uncertain, voice caught in your throat by the sudden change in topic.

Oberyn taps his chin, “It is a noble pursuit Lord Malroy, perhaps you may wish to someday. A bookish Lord is not a poor thing, the chain of a maester does not wear so tightly nor heavily when it is but a few links. I recall two such times such a number bore significance-”

“Lord Brynden Malroy? I am sorry to interrupt-” your head turns, seeing the small voice of Olymer Tyrell’s squire coming from behind, he wrings his green cap in his hands before looking past you and growing wide eyed in terror, “O-oh Seven above, I-I-I apologize Prince Oberyn Martell I had not known you were speaking. Please forgive me, I… Um merely was sent to, to, to…”

A Djin appears and offers you 3 wishes but each has a caveat.

The first wish will give you too much of what you wish for. If you wish for gold, it will pile more and more until it destroys its own worth. If you wish for women they will come and they will destroy you. If you wish for immortality you will be faced with the emptiness of oblivion for eternity while everyone else knows the peace of rest.

The second wish will give you too litter of what you ask. If you wish for gold you will recieve barely enough for a new set of clothes. If you wish for beauty then your hand will be the lovliest hand in all the land. If you wish for immortality you will enjoy 5 minutes of being impervious.

The third wish will offer you just the right amount of what you desire. But what you wish for shall be granted onto someone who you hate, so you must share your glories with them.

Also if you wish for more wishes you die. This includes wishing for more dijin to grant you more wishes.

I'll tell you all who is who now:

Angus - An orc from Dundee. Originally a greengrocer but also horrendously proficient with the flamethrower he carries. The flamethrower doubles as a thermic lance.
The bard - A human, wears a kilt, plays the bagpipes. Occasionally has great ideas. The DM uses his own taste in music for what the bard actually plays (so usually classic rock or country & western).
Cruella - Essentially a Dark Eldar wych wearing more clothes. She is vicious and stealthy. Armed with two daggers and a sword that she talks to.
The wizard - Not actually magic but can command metal (iron) and summon various sharp or pointy things. Including chainsaws.
The Navvie (also called Burt) - A very large human with a hammer. He hits things with it.
Aldous - A dwarven knight. Wears full plate. Carries twin revolvers and a gatling shotgun. Smokes a pipe. The more observant amongst you might note that this is also me.

>Wats going on?
This adventure is a stand alone and doesn't really care too much about the established canon (as it were), while the adventure happened around Christmas/New Year this 2015/6, I have only managed to sit down and begin telling it now (barring one abortive attempt while in Africa).

So without further ado, I shall begin to tell "A Less than Seasonal Tale."

[Please feel free to ask questions as we go I'll be in this thread solidly until about 00:00 GMT or 18:00 in New Orleans - which I might add is hot as balls]

We begin in London as the privy council explain over tea served by Baldrick, the gorilla, that the good ship DunRoamin pulled into Peterhead Harbour last Tuesday. This is met with an almost unanimous

"And?"
Aside from Angus, who is picking his nose and simultaneously rolling a cigarette, and Cruella, who has taken a shine to a carriage clock on the mantelpiece and is considering larceny.

Blackadder explains "and the DunRoamin was thought lost at sea two years ago. Wreckage was found. Even some bodies. The 'crew' have no knowledge of the last twenty six months, the cargo of Spanish Oranges are still fresh. The last thing any of them remember is the Northern lights around Cruden Bay. We (the Privy Council) have had the crew quarantined. We suggest (meaning order on pain of death) you find out what is going on. Additionally, some of the local sheep have been (Angus perks up) going missing and returning in fractions. Do find out what's going on?"
Blackadder also mentions a number of other missing ships, ones which were assumed lost to alchemists/sea monsters/necromancery. Given that good King Algernon has already (mostly unknowingly) put up and dedicated a number of monuments, it'd be far too confusing for the old duffer to dedicate them. Additionally wherever that ship has been, we want to know.

So we find ourselves on the sleeper train to Peterhead. Having "snuck" (punched out the guard - cheers Navvie) our way into first class (where they wash the chickens you share the carriage with first) we are smoking and enjoying one of Angus's home distilled whiskies. To our surprise it tastes nothing like whiskey but also doesn't make you go blind.

The surroundings, company, and drink being convivial, the party start to relax, finding their feet as their characters again, old arguments are resurrected and players get in character. As the Wizard and Navvie speculate on what the disappearance could mean, Angus and Cruella snipe at each other over whether Brown or tomato sauce is more of an insult to food while interjecting every so often. The consensus is that it's something to do with time travel, the bard dissenting because obviously it's whales. When pressed further all he says is "fuck whales."

The party are finding their feet again reasonably quickly. The train journey passes quickly. The issue is that the DM is also finding his feet again. Cruella it appears has actually acquired the carriage clock and is inordinately pleased with it.

We start properly in Cruden Bay, a small fishing village. We kind of expect everyone to be missing, we expect things to be not as they should be. Instead, and for once, everything seems fine. In fact the village seems more than fine, they're having a party.

The group are quite content to get involved but the Wizard reminds us we are here to do a job. We make our way (nearly losing Angus and the Navvie to a bar) to Cruden Bay's one and only jail, where apparently the crew of the DunRoamin have been quarantined.

The twelve crew seem altogether normal, if a little lost, you would be too if you'd lost a couple years inexplicably. They don't seem as though they've been at sea for two years. No Rime of The Ancient Mariner stuff here. Talking to them brings us almost nothing new in the way of knowledge.

DM: "The 14 men in the gaol seem perfectly, completely, and utterly normal."
The fete outside seems to pick up a little in noise and cheer.

>12 crew on the boat.
>14 men in the gaol.

What's your budget? Bogles is easier to skimp on since Horizon Canopy's are non-critical. Infect is easily the best of the three but Hierarchs and Mistys aren't cheap or non-critical. Dredge isn't a spike deck.
>>
>>48206291
I thought Dredge was more spike than Bogles? I'm looking at an initial buy in of 100 or so, then spending as much as 1k or more over time. I will say I love Pauper boggles.

What the fuck, tg? He's doesn't even have like a magic sword or bullshit plot powers or anything, and he's still REM KAROLUS, SLAYER OF ELDRAZI! How many do you have to slay until they start calling you that? He has a crossbow and he's sick of your shit, Emrakul.

Sets get made in steps.

>The design people start come up bare-bones mechanics-only cards.
>The development people try to make it not be brroken as shit.
>The people who can't write good try to make it pretty.

By the time it gets the writers at the end, the cards for the set are locked in.
If there isn't a Legendary card to give to a character they make... that character just doesn't get a card.
Sometimes they try to stick it on a non-Legendary (Laboratory Maniac is totally Ludevic), but that can be hard to do.

Not in 5th, but in 4e we had a Encounters game where we were all 1st level and one player had a Blackguard. When we encountered some innocents the Blackguard player said "I kill them!". Initiative was rolled, everyone else in the party beat the blackguard, and threw all their attacks at him, killing him before he could do anything. To my knowledge that guy never played D&D again.
>>
>>48207530
The one time my players pvped, it was a cleric vs. a warlock, in a just for fun type thing. The cleric succeeded on his save against hold person, and the warlock didn't. That was that.
>>

If its 1v1 nothing can beat amoon druid at low to mid levels, as long as hes decded to sink all his days resources into it.

How does TG feel about this scalper eyeballing the reserved list?

Will investors ride the coattails of this announcement?

Will Wizards reevaluate the reserved list in general?

Just media nonsense?

It would be retarded to try and buyout the Reserved List en masse. Yeah, the higher the prices go the more the cards are technically worth, but the harder they are to actually move. He'll very easily cross the threshold into having shit that's too expensive for anyone to be buying.
>>
>>48196810
Not disagreeing with you, but isn't that kinda this guy's thing? Owning shit no one else can afford? E.g. the WU Tang Album.
>>
>>48196810
The more of the reserved list that ends up in the hands of one man, the less incentive and reason there is for keeping it rare.

With some luck, he will buy enough of the cards and invest quite a lot of money in to them only to have depreciate 99%
