After breakfast, you decided to head into the fairgrounds near the spectator stands with your crew. Denise and Hilda were probably somewhere around there, having fun, and considering Denise has already given up so much time to be your PA, you might as well give her a break just this once.

Really though, the reason you were here was because… “Ellie!” You see your parents by their car, waving at you. You decided to see if they actually came, and they did! Oh boy… Mom and Dad walk up to you, sunshine and rainbows. You can’t imagine the long drive they must have took down from Jersey. “Hey, it’s your crew!”

“Yeah, yeah,” you say. “Um, sorry, I didn’t properly introduce you all to-“

“Elliot Zumwalt,” he says, patting his chest proudly. “This is my wife, Elizabeth.”

“I’m Winona!” Winona bites her lip, smiling happily. “Do you have more Ellie baby pics?” FOR FUCKS SAKE.

“As a matter of fact I-“ Mom slaps Dad upside the head. “… don’t.”

You motion to the rest as well. “This is Stack, she’s my loader.” Stack grins, showing off her strong arm to Mom and Dad. “Ingrid, my RO.” Ingrid nods, happily shaking hands with Mom and Dad. “And Josephina, my driver.” Josephina shyly nods to them, smile on her face. “This is my crew. Crew, my parents.”

Turtle Tribal edition

Hey lads, I've decided on this shortlist. It's too big though, I need to drop 14 more cards. Any suggestions? I'm considering getting rid of Uncaged Fury but that double-strike potential has won me games before. I don't want to end up card or mana-screwed so cards like Drag Under, Grip of the Roil, and Contingency Plan seem good but I don't have enough room in this deck for them.

Why do people act like "roleplaying" (in the sense of having a detailed backstory and personality worked out from the word "go") and "telling a story" (i.e., railroading) are objectively superior to playing an RPG at which you can win or lose, and any story being the discovery of the setting and/or emerging from your choices as you try to survive whatever scenario you're in?

I'm sick of this "roleplaying > rollplaying" bullshit. Yes, it's a ROLE PLAYING game, but it's a role playing GAME. If I just wanted a story without a challenge, I'd watch TV or read a book. If I wanted choices with no consequences, I'd read a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure and use bookmarks as save points. And if I wanted to play out a ROLE with no meaningful choices whatsoever, I'd try out for a play at my local community theater.

Fuck it. I'll just say it. If I have to choose, rollplaying > "roleplaying" any day of the fucking week.

And stop fudging dice. You're cheating your players by taking away even their ability to succeed or fail based on their ability to use resources effectively and choose what risks to take.

Hey /tg/, it's been a while since we did this, and I just picked up the books again myself after chatting with a friend, so how about a run through some LONE WOLF? For those of you not familiar, Lone Wolf is an old 80s-90s CYOA book series with a pretty basic but fun essentially d10 system. We'll be using the version of the books hosted on Project Aon. General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear vote winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever! This is not a video game. Weak moves tend to be quicker.

Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

You are in the middle of the Mojave desert, doing a 100 on a freeway and you are wearing a black suit and sunglasses.

'It's a nice car. It's a real damned nice car, so please, please, don't scratch it,' you say under your breath.

You would accelerate further, but you've got the pedal to the metal and the 60s engine is groaning under the strain already. The 1965 Thunderbird looks amazing, but it handles like a fishing boat with wheels taped to it.

You swerve forcefully, almost going into a tailspin, as the air less than a hundred feet ahead of you ignites into a fireball so hot that it scorches a hole into the asphalt.

'Who throws fireballs, seriously!' You turn around and shout at the car following you. Unlike you, the man chasing you isn't driving a convertible, and so he doesn't hear you, nor can you see any part of him, except for the outstretched hand that he's been using to throw fucking magical fireballs at you for the past five miles.

'Can't we talk about this?' You turn to shout, as loudly as you can. Then you duck, because the following fireball would have hit you straight in the face if you hadn't.

You speed past a police car a few seconds later hear the sirens, as the surprised cops get their shit together and start chasing the both of you.

You're running away from a wizard and some cops in a car you don't technically own, the sun is glaring so hot that you have been sunburned for the past four hours, you've been wearing the same sunglasses and suit for the last week, and you have no idea how far out of depth you are.

Hell, you wish you could go back to being...
