One of the players in my Saturday Group can't make it to the session, so I plan to run a onesot to tide over until next week.
Could anyone share any interesting systems designed for a single session of play?

I think, this fits?
Assuming you had the strength to utilize such a weapon, what would be the best STONE to make a heavy, unbreakable blade from?
Granite, shale, marble, etc. Keep in mind you're talking to a geologically uninformed guy.
>>48653067
No stone is unbreakable, they all tends towards the brittle.
That said , I think jade is supposed to have a decent amount of toughness, making it a less awful idea than most.
Is it magical if it's unbreakable? If it's magical to make it unbreakable, just choose the densest stone you can find. According to google it is basalt. If it's not magical you're pretty fucked, because stone will chip a shit ton.

Are (STANDARD LG!) paladins completely countered by hostages?
>>48652523
are cops completely countered by hostages?
>(STANDARD LG!
That still leaves a wide range of interpretations and options.
But, overall, most paladins have a decent enough charisma score to talk to the guy, either enough to convince him to let the hostage go in exchange for some sort of leniency, or long enough for the rogue to kill the guy.

Use your protective skills to increase her armor class.
Lore-wise, what are the qualities of a good planeswalker? By "good", I mean "doesn't cause the fans to recoil in anger and disgust."
Somebody who doesn't make it seem like sparks are handed out as a joke.
A real planeswalker that made shit happen. You know, Urza, back when he wasn't written into an insane asylum because the writers couldn't handle a competent opponent for Phyrexia
>>48649262
You know, a thought occurs to me.
Plenty of cards show Urza doing things, but how many cards show Urza saying things? I mean, quotes from Urza in the flavor text?
>Generation Z is being called 'millennials on steroids'
Will the next generation even care to play traditional games?
>>48641269
Yes, some of them will play, but not most by a long shot
Traditional games have been seeing a huge surge in popularity thanks to the accessibility of online communities. You might say it's not the same, but that's the passage of time for you. Your pearl-clutching terror at whatever the fuck the "youths" are doing these days is at best misguided. Let them be stupid on their own and don't worry so much.
>>48641269
Nobody from my generation cares what Generation ___ is doing and neither do I.
I have been playing DnD 5ed for about 8 months now and i wanna know if is worth it to learn another version or system, and why. I am really found of the fantasy genre so i don't have any intention of switching settings, i am more interested about what i am missing by only playing DnD.
It's generally worth trying other systems because a lot of the time the different mechanics mean that what you're doing and the sorts of decisions your making whilst playing/GMing between different systems, even in the same genre, can be very different and people have all sorts of preferences, there could be a system in which you have to do none of the stuff you find annoying and get to focus on the parts of gaming you love the most, there probably isn't but you might find one you enjoy better than D&D5e.
>>48636971
Every RPG system is geared towards a certain playstyle. D&D is geared towards long term campaigns of hack & slash, pillage & plunder, loot & level. PC mortality is low, HPs are high and building an optimal character is a widespread activity.
A system like, otoh, Harnmaster is geared towards a medieval, low fantasy, low magic, high realism setting. Combat is brutal, including amputations, and even if you survive, any open wound might cause you to die of infection. It's not about teasure-hunting heroes, it's about a semi-realistic, low magic, medieval experience.
A system like Warhammer 1E/2E is geared towards dark fantasy - which means another quiet lethal combat system with rules for bloody, debilitating criticals. However it sits between Harnmaster and D&D in a number of ways (mid magic, treasure hunting is more feasible, etc).
Never having played Dragon Age, I believe it is geared towards more cineastic action with its stunt rules.
A Song Of Ice And Fire RPG features rules for Intrigue and creating your own Clan, stuff you would expect from the setting.
Ideally, you as as GM, develop a vision of what kind of gameplay you want long-term out of your fantasy. What is fantasy gaming about for you? What is most interesting to explore? And when you have that, you come back here and ask people about what system is best suited to this playstyle.
>>48637096
I very much appreciate your answer. Thank you.
Getting the hook of your question, i think what i like the most about D&D and what i look in a TTRPG is the creative freedom it allows me in combat. I really liked the spells in 5ed, especially the bard and druid ones. I really like the concept of magical items, that grants me features, i like how resting while travelling can be harsh and i find the whole magic system to be quite appealing though i would like to try something a little more low magic (in the level of LoTR maybe).
I dont like to feel restrict to a a certain party set up or feeling that i have to built my character in an optional way for combat. I really liked the concept of bounded accuracy in 5ed.
I would probably be interested if any other TTRPG allowed me more freedom without being too crunchy (i like things fluid and simple)
/tg/, I need wise sounding phrases, kohans, pseudo-deep bullshit and perhaps even tidbits of actual, real wisdom for a character I am making.
Care to help?

Take everything with a grain of salt in 40k, especially shit they talk about in the DAoT.
Tractors are used for a lot of stuff. Transporting goods, pulling farm equipment. It's not so much that they were farming anything particularly massive back then, but the yields, the distances needed to be covered, and the size of equipment must have been much larger than we're used to.

Haven't played it, only read the rulebook. Character generation seems awesome, and the game supposedly plays a bit similar to Malifaux (big surprise). I doubt it'd be harder to get into than most other RPGs on the market, so if you like the setting or even play Malifaux, go for it.

Greetings, field team. I've just gotten off the phone with the decontanimation crew in Argentina. After some digging we've manage to trace several odd payments from Werwolf 77 to a lone individual, a business tychoon named Wonglei. Over the last several months leading up to the operation in Argentina multiple payments were made by him and what we've found out to be several dummy corporations ultimately owed by a coglomerate of as-of-yet-to-be-identified shareholders.
One of them was Asmodeus, Belial and Sratch Incorporated, which even the analysts felt were a bit on the nose.
Mr. Wonglei is throwing a social soiree tonight at a mansion slightly outside of town to celebrate acquiring a rare book for his private library. There is to be reading from the book later in the evening. Seemingly he does this kind of thing with some regularity and the actual guest list is handled by one of his secretaries. We've manage to convince one of them to expand the list for the low price of a few cinema tickets.
So dress nice, you're going to a party. It's the perfect oppertunity to have a look around the grounds and see if you can find anything that links Wonglei to Werwolf 77.
For this operation, you're going to need to dress fancy so unfortunately the kevlar will have to stay at home.
>standard DR on this op reduced from 4 to 1
We've reviewed the combat data from the operation last week, and made a few adjustments to our policies. This is an instrumental process, so please keep your cameras on at all times when in the field.
Claire.

Since we can't very well go tooting assault rifles to a private gathering, you're going to have to stick with pistols and concealable arms this time.
And the bulky grenades are right out. You can maybe smuggle in a breaching charge in a handbag, if you're careful.
Unfortunately, we can't very well add armored inserts to a formal dress but R&D thinks they might be able to do something with a few ceramic plates.
>Plate DR +1 on this op
Mr. Wonglei seems to have hired SolarStar Security Solutions for his little gathering, and they're out in force. If they catch acting odd they're likely to sound the alarm. Unfortunately SolarStar is one of the companies under investigation, so they might be in on whatever Wonglei is up to.
Areas of interest would be the newly constructed library, Wonglei's private office or the security room since it is likely where the private server for the residence is stored.
Oh, and if you have tentacles, try not to rough up the guards.

ITT: You explain to me how any self-respecting storyteller would ever allow a thing like Alignment to fuck up his shit and limit his and his players' characters.
I play 0E clones. There are three alignments:
Lawful - Likes people and human habitats and wants them to survive and thrive (in general).
Chaotic - Hates people and human habitats and wants them to wither and be destroyed (in general).
Neutral - Is not willing to work hard for the benefit or destruction of people and human habitats (in general).
For most of my campaigns I just say "play lawful or neutral because I don't want you destroying towns and generally acting like an evil-ass monster."
Alignment hardly comes up beyond that.
>>48644030
When Alignment is:
a). descriptive rather than prescriptive, a reflection of the character's current beliefs and past actions.
and
b). a spectrum, rather than a set of hard and fast boxes, such that characters can be different parts and intensities of each axis while having a general descriptor.Funny enough this is exactly how D&D says alignment is to be run, but you'd all rather get mad wouldn't you?
>>48644202
But what if my actions and beliefs are all over the place? What if they cannot be classified in these two dimensions, and my actions follow a near-incomprehensible but very strict code? Does the outside world decide? Do I decide? Does Kek decide?
Come and share your short comming in the world of TTRPGs.
As a DM I can't keep a serious tone throughout an entire session, as a player I always end up as the DM.
As a DM, I often choke up when the actual session starts. I can't properly describe things anymore, every combat encounter I have to improvise becomes a fight in a more or less plain room and my abililty to do voices for NPCs just disappears.
It's fucking frustrating, and the main reason that while I love to DM, I hate my DMing.
>>48631367
As a Player I guess I get to exited about these kind of games and pester the DM to hell and back. I just don't have anyone else to talk about Tabletop...I'm only starting so my That Guyness is still in incubation phase.
As a DM. I don't DM. I barely know the rules.
