so i have never DMed before but a couple of my buddies said they would give me a chance if i throw together a DnD game for them to play.
so aside from dont be too much of a donkey's rear end (asshole) and avoid railroading all the time i have no idea what i am doing.

That's a bad way of putting it, but its right in spirit.
The key is to remember that as the person running is that your players are supposed to enjoy themselves. That means just because the dice seem to enjoy making your players never hit that enemy and have him kill them one by one two fights into a longer quest doesn't mean that it has to end that way.

Aside from that, try to figure out what your buddies like (if not from prior experience playing together then by picking up on it during game and running with it). A party full of fpeople who love rping and a party of people who just want to kill things should have different focuses.

It looks a little banged up and it's speaker has come partially unplugged, dangling by a wire, but a simple enough fix. It's the escaped A.I.! It's looking at you expectantly. You can almost hear it's catchphrase "rectify". You think it wants you to fix the speaker so it can talk.

It's a lovely day again, nice and warm and bright. I smile and tip my hat to the sky as I lay against the roof of Beartrap island's marine base.its still early, real early, and I only just got some grub in me a few minutes ago.
And I really shouldn't be slaking up here, even if it really helps with digestion. Sighing as I stand up and scratch Ajax under the chin as he saunters up over to me, I look down at the yard, and crouch down to get a bit of a better look at what's going on down there.
And its all mostly the same, training and drills. I smile as I see Bellary fluttering about through the ranks. Glad to see she's doing well for herself. Ochamu is swinging around that Halberd thing we found on Lass's monster of a ship...and I'm not sure but I think she's using it pretty well, at least judging by all the fellas lying flat on their asses around her like a bunch of broken glass. I may could go looking for yotshi, and see where he's gone off this morning, but I have a feeling he's still struggling to work with all those poor mistreated swords in the armory for some strange reason.
"OH what's made you so entitled to think you can just sit around a do nothing all day?" Mr bellows screams from what sounds like the corner of the yard "I mean that would be bad enough, but from what I've heard you've been tricking other people into doing your work like a siren, what do you have to say for yourself"

I'm currently writing a fantasy fiction about a hunter in the medieval setting. (Think Berserk x Monster Hunter)
However, I have yet to decide upon my protagonist's main weapon and arsenal.
At first I was thinking sword and shield, with a bow on his back. But then I remembered he will be fighting huge dragons, ten times his size at least, with hard ass dragon scales on their bodies. So I changed the main weapon to a typical Great Sword (a huge weapon for huge enemies, amIrite), but this idea has been done so many times, so I would like something else. Would a spear work? or perhaps, a Claymore? I need some ideas here, /tg/!

Winged spear. Dragons in many settings are weakest aginst piercing weapons because the small but sturdy strike point has a better chance to get between the scales whereas slashing weapons slide right off and blunt weapons' impact are asorbed. Also the spear fits the entire "hunter" theme. A shield could also work with the speaf and your character could fight spartan-style.
