Tell me about your current group/party, /tg/. What do you like/dislike? Vent to us, and tell us all the little things you appreciate.
I'll start. 5e party:
>Tiefling champion fighter (dex)
>First time player, but really got the hang of separation of OOC and IC knowledge/personality. Roleplays well, considering no experience. De facto party face as well as fighter.
>Great in a scrap, knows the combat rules well and is inventive.
>Somehow struggles to learn the rest of the game's rules.
Gnome arcane trickster
>Great at being a skillmonkey and thinking around encounters. Keeps me on my toes with improving things I hadn't thought of.
>character is funny, but a little annoying.
>has a tendency to go off on his own, but doesn't complain when I ignore him for a bit and focus on the rest of the party.
>very enthusiastic.
>brings beer.
Human tempest cleric
>veteran player, has his character down solid.
>very busy life, hard to organise around, and tends to need to be done by 10.30.
>great at supporting the rest of the party, is the moral centre without being obnoxious.
>great at giving/picking up plot hooks.
Half-elf wild magic sorceror:
>good mechanically, knows most of the rules despite being a new player.
>terrible at roleplay, still picks high CHA, wants to be face. Tries his hardest.
>has to be IC babysat the whole time or he'll fuck the party over accidentally.
>massive flake on sessions. Has to be battered over the head before he'll commit to a date.
And, finally, brand new Half-Orc Ranger:
>very keen, solid idea of her character in her head.
>fun and happy when relaxed, brings lots of snacks.
>can be quite abrasive OOC if she's uncomfortable.
>asked loads about the campaign/setting backstory, trying to get IC as hard as she can.
I like them a lot, although might have to warn then kick the Sorceror if he doesn't get his shit together.
So, over to you.
No-one? No That Guys or This Guys?
Dank Heresy 2
Feral World Guardsman
>Planet had broken man of iron on it
>Turned into religious symbol by tribesmen
>When Imperial Cult landed they told them to start worshipping a man on a throne and they told them they already were
>Imperial Cult has no idea they're placing offerings to a deactivated man of iron thinking it's a statue of the Emperor
>Guardsman hates technology, thinks cybernetics further man from Emperor's image
>Actual player is great guy, always have a laugh
Priest
>Good at solving problems
>Understands setting very well
>Australian, has that mad cunt sense of humour
>Doesn't take much active participation in the game, lets others lead when it makes sense for his character to be taking charge at points
Techpriest
>Prays to the Omnissiah every day
>Doesn't afraid of anything
>Bit of a troll but all in character, doesn't care much for other players
I've known these guys for about 7 years now, we all know each other's sense of humour. First time GMing with them though and we have some great moments. The party went to a bunkhouse but there was only a family room available, Techpriest and Priest go into adult single beds whereas guardsman has to try and fit into child bed. We joke that the duvet is really brightly coloured with pictures of the primarchs in a cartoon style on it and he's trying to get to sleep whilst the Priest tries to out-pray the Techpriest in a shouting match. Good times.

Cyberpunk + Hotline Miami game, mostly with my old friends from college:
Shooter - businessman, bald, twin guns, you know the drill. Newbie, still getting used to roleplaying. Nice to have a fresh face and approach once in a while.
Ninja-Hacker - risk-taker, creative, player is a gigantic munchkin but also one of my best friends so it's more charming than annoying.
Rigger - good roleplayer, gets into character, rolls with the punches, reliable guy. Just don't give him a spellcaster PC, he will dominate any game.
Face - social implants out the wazoo, cautious, self-preserving, player is methodical and calculating, plans well.
Soldier - hulked out on cyberware, intellectual but plays a dummy, tries to be /k/ but needs more work, top smarts.
I like playing with all these guys, so good times all around.
Red pill me on the DARPG.
>>48618406
It's a manly RPG where men are men, dwarves are dwarves and elves are all feminine. AS IT SHOULD BE.
>>48618687
Uhh, what about the mechanics, are they manly as well?
>>48618687
Is it fun.
Tell me about your characters you've made based off pre existing characters, pic related.
In a dark heresy game, I essentially played Rainn Wilson from Super. I was an accountant by day for a massive banking firm and a psychopathic autistic vigilante by night. It was a good time.
With a 13 to my dex mod I can fool a god
My current character is basically a young and inexperienced Alan Quartermain.
Song of Blades and Heroes, Frostgrave, Mordheim, LotR, SAGA (more historical I know). Hell, even dungeon crawlers and boardgames like Warhammer Quest and Descent.
Post your warbands and miniature manufacturers.
I read the rules for Open Combat the other week. Pretty standard, IGOUGO with a "risk management" mechanic to force turnovers, basically rolling a 1 on most actions climbing/shooting/etc causes a stagger or a fumble and gives the initiative to your opponent. I do sort of prefer it having 5 or 6 stats instead of SoBH's "two stats and a bucket of special rules", and the terrain rules are simple but solid. The only thing then is there aren't really any special rules, the warband composition is a bit bland at literally a point per each point of statline, and then a point for a weapon, shield etc. Seems like a serviceable ruleset, maybe more solid core rules than SoBH for only a little more detail, but I'd still prefer that.
I'll post some miniatures anyway. Think these are actually from a guy on /tg/.
>>48618117
This guy used Blood Bowl Humans.
Hey /tg/ I've been listening to some of the successful business people say that you have to love what you do. I love GMing and I wanna find a way to make money from it. How do I do it? Is it wrong to offer a service to people for money? How good would I need to be? How much do you think the players would pay?
>>48617758
Thought about making a community CYOA YT channel?
>>48617758
>How good would I need to be?
Probably going to depend on how much you're charging. Part of the problem with asking money for it, though, is that you're likely going to have to give up some of your GM'ing freedom - in many games, the GM is the one with the final power of veto and, while ideally the GM and the players see one another as equals for the most part, most players will begrudgingly yield to the authority of the GM. Or leave the game. Or post shit on /tg/ about how their GM sucks.
So replacing your players with paying customers might just lead to more entitled, bitchy players. Consider how many little shits there are on Roll20, and how awful they are - the kind of players that a GM wants at their table are already playing games. Now consider the sort of player that has to pay somebody else to GM for them.
>>48617896
I think by keeping the charges low for each player I can make more then the minimum wage I make now.
Entitled players is always a problem but I see what you mean. Starting out I'd likely lack the references to offer a paid service to people I'd be able to choose. I think a properly laid out contract about what is acceptable and what isn't would be important, especially when we all know how weird table tops can get.
Mass polymorph, /tg/!
Grab your closest stack of MtG cards and flip them over until you find a creature.
You are now that creature.
If you don't own any cards click http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Default.aspx until you get a creature.
What did you get turned into and what do you do next?
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=487
Nothing changes except I'm far more likely to grow moss.
>>48617566
>Bane of bala ged
Gross colorless eldrazi.
I guess i go devour some mana.
>>48617566
Huh, that's convenient.
Not that familiar with the MtG so I assume by the picture and text that I'm limited to human/humanoids.
Still, feels pretty useful.
60 card deck, max 4 of any card, 20 life points.
5x4 grid for cards to fight on. Another row on either side for holding servers. Pendulum zones on either side. Servers contain things from your hand to holdings to enchantments, and can be destroyed if they are successfully run onto.
Start with a champion in play, who plays roughly the same as battlecon but on a grid. Cards are played through the champion. Champion's abilities determines deck playstyle.
Next tier of creatures is heroes, who play as pokemon, and attach land cards to themself to power up. If you lose 6 heroes you lose the game, and they have a retreat cost which can be used in the back row, and are usually only very potent after evolving.
Next tier down are creatures, which (tentatively) work as both ice and icebreakers.
The china card passes back and forth between players offering a temporary advantage until its used and passed along.
Effects may require a vote, for which a jury of 6 (3 members chosen by each player in deck creation) vote for whichever player best fulfils their criteria. China card can be spent for a vote, and some cards can grant a vote. Tie does not pass.
Possibly a pool of mana dice (mage knight) supplied each round to power up effects.
Most cards can be turned upsidedown to act as land.
Units can be dishonored.
Any other mechanic that could possibly fit. I can't find a way to work mid game deckbuilding in without making the game very luckbased due to a setup favouring one player's deck.
Does anyone care about this at all?
...I would play it.
Sounds rad OP, keep going.
I have no idea what is going on.
But i like it.
In DnD 3.5, if you were to use timestop, then throw a knife, would the knife stop moving the moment it left your hand, allowing you to set up multiple throwing knife attacks if you wanted to, or would the knife just harmlessly hit the target during the stopped time for some reason?
The latter.
>>48616478
You could not. The game doesn't account for the time weapons spend in the air otherwise, so it wouldn't here RAW. It would just be any other attack that deals damage, which everything would be invulnerable to until time starts again. A DM might allow it though, because it's basically the least effective thing a wizard could do in a time stop anyway, and it makes a kind of sense
You could do something similar to what you're describing with the highest level diamond mind maneuver in Tome of Battle though since that just gives you 2 full actions (or maybe specifically 2 full attacks. I don't really want to look that up)
>>48616478
It must get very dull having to set up all those knives while everyone else is basically firing bullets machine gun style.
How do her bullets even work? Are they knife-shaped energy pellets, or are they all rubber knives to get around the no killing rule in spellcard duels?
Stat me.

>New 40k comics are being made
DEFF SKWADRON FOLLOW UP WHEN?
Are there many Warhammer Fantasy/40K comics? The only ones I've seen seem quite old... which now that I think of it seems really strange to me. The settings are bursting with visually neat stuff, and comics are less complicated for them to produce than something like a tv series or a movie.
Are there a bunch I just haven't heard of? If not why do you suppose they don't do them?
>>48616429
There are quite a lot. Rather old, about 10 years old for most of them.
I know that the HH general used to have a mega link with plenty if not all of them, but I think it went kaboom for no reason.
I know that GW has been re-editing the old ones this year, I bought Deff Skwadron in my local GW. Pretty sure you can either find them online to read for free, or you can look on Black Library, they are probably being sold there as well.
Damnation Crusade, Deff Skwadron and the Redeemer are my 3 favorites, and widely recognised as some of the best 40k comics we have if you want to start.
>>48616429
Inferno! and Warhammer Monthly both ran comics. They've also put out a few between and afterwards, including a couple for the Horus Heresy.
>why do you suppose they don't do them?
Paying an artist to do that much work is more expensive than paying an author to write a book, I guess. Or more likely they just forgot about them until now.
The aft section of the Merican space vessel Event Horizon materializes out of the warp near Proxima Centuari. However, due to the primitive nature of the warp drive in use and the lack of a proper navigator, it doesn't arrive there until the 41st Millennium. What happens next?
>>48615855
Absolutely nothing
>>48615855
Ad-Mech send in a scavenging team and shenanigans ensue.
Three ways it can go from there.
1. is that the ship, deamon and deamon-host Dr Weir all run the fuck away because the Dark Millennium is more than they can cope with.
2. The Ad-Mech get some preachers and perform an exorcism and force the deamon out Bell, Book and Candle style. Should the deamon try to fight back it gets fucked up by a combination of mind-bullets and consecrated high-tech weaponry.
3. They write it off as a loss and vaporize it. Ship is tiny, has no weapons or shields and is built very fragile. It' wouldn't survive even the most half-hearted broadside laser cannon barrage.
Keep in mind that if it has only travelled through time and not space very much then its still in Neptune or Near Neptune space. It has landed right on the lawn of the Grey Knights.
>>48615855
What is essentially a chaos tainted ship enters real space right at the edge of sol system, as in the most heavily defended place in the imperium? it gets fucking purged, thats what happens.
Thank the emperor
It's not like he can make the game more unbalanced.
>>48616393
Wasn't balance the one thing Ward did a good job at?
>>48616414
his codices were balanced against each other, yes
impress us with your ideas. Lots of you create house rules and custom systems, so what can you do from a system design perspective to give old Gygax a run for his money?
>Tfw you're not sure if you wanna post your 10 month labor of love because you don't know if you can get money for it after posting the mechanics on /tg/.
>>48615055
Open rpgs are the future anyways. There are plenty of other ways to monetize things than sticking to the old fashion brick and mortar store model of game financing.
>>48615272
Oh, I don't doubt it. DrivethruRPG taught me that much, at least.
Hell, I still need to get the damn thing started with the first round of play testing: I just don't know the laws of trying to monetize something, even on a 'pay if you want/liked the product' type payment system, that's been in a public forum.
Have you ever convinced anyone to play tabletop games, /tg/? Tell me your stories.
>>48614641
I managed to get my friend into 40k then subsequently Dark Heresy and Black Crusade. He's a great player, and his reactions to some o the more awesome tidbits of lore are always fun to watch
I convinced a bunch of people in a Discord I was in to play with me. It's been over three months, playing every week, and they all love it and have branched out seeking more groups and playing experiences.
>>48614641
Got a few guys in college to try, one of which tried to DM.
It turned out that the guy DMing had ridiculously thin skin. He got up and walked out less than an hour into the session because we asked him to stop doing stupid shit like having us roll perception to see normal doors.
This wasn't the only time he's done something like this, but it was the first time I was around to see it. I think he was on meds for depression or something and they made his mood really swingy.
>tl;dr anon can't get past dm's barrier nonsense.
I've been stuck the past few sessions in a Bleach game while we're in a training session due to the nature of the DM's I would say puzzle. The basic set up is that my character is a Fullbringer, a species type that can manipulate the soul of objects to bend and alter to their will, ie. making water float into their mouth or making ground rubbery to soften impact. I've gotten most of the way there but this last step has been sending me for a doozy. Essentially my character was thrown in a pit that was about forty feet deep, and every ten feet was a different barrier. The first barrier was a nullification, making me have to find a way to get up past 10' without powers. The second was a rejection barrier, knocking me back to the ground on contact. The solution was creating a bubble around myself and pass through that way. The third was electrified, requiring two bubbles to split the load, one electrically conductive, the other non-conductive (the latter inside the former). The final barrier is one I can't figure out however. It seems to break anything that touches it on contact. Try and punch it? It breaks your arm, throw a shoe at it the shoe exploads, try and use bubbles and they all pop. Nothing I've tried has worked and we go again tomorrow. The only thing I can say with certainty is that punching harder isn't the answer, one of the major antagonists had been in here for seven years apparently and punched it non stop and couldn't make it through, and shes OP as fuck.
Feel free to post any stories of times your DM had the game come to a screeching halt because no one could figure his advanced puzzle logic.
>>48610878
Ok so why not just go through the wall of the pit and not the magic barrier. If it's more complex and powerful than you, why attempt to challenge it directly?
>>48610949
I tried that at the start, the walls are made from some kind of spongy asylum foam that absorbs all impact. Teleport magic doesn't work since the room breaks any connection to the outside. Also tried manipulating something from the outside but forces blocked my attempt.
