The year is 1936, and the Spanish Civil War has begun.Your name is José Quintana, and you´ve lived in the countryside for all your life, helping your family tend to the crops you´ve needed to survive, hiding your strange ability, the Stand [Iron Maiden], from everyone. Or so you thought, for the day in which you were to be drafted into the Republican army to fight the fascist forces, you fled, and were found by another Stand user by the name of Francisco Sánchez, and joined in his plans to stop the war!. Last time, you fled from the vampires residing in the caves of Altamira, seemingly led by what you´ve begun calling a "Pillar Man", and managed to recover one of the stone masks you believe they use for their rituals.

Francisco and you have already armed yourselves for hunting the vampires... but perhaps you are not ready to deal with their leader. You decided to not use the Stone Mask- but you kept it, in case you ever needed it- and you may very well need it very soon.

War. War never changes.

In the years before the Great War, New York had been the economic core of the world of the 21th century. During that time, war was still waged over the resources that could be acquired. Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons: Petroleum and Uranium. For these resources, China would invade Alaska, the US would annex Canada, and the European Commonwealth would dissolve into quarrelling, bickering nation-states, bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth.

In 2077, the storm of world war had come again. In two brief hours, most of the planet was reduced to cinders. And from the ashes of nuclear devastation, a new civilisation would struggle to arise.

When atomic fire consumed the earth, those few who survived did so in great, underground Vaults, massive tombstones that sheltered hundreds if not thousands of lives at once. Your family was part of that group that entered Vault 97. Imprisoned safely behind the large Vault door, under the Statue of Liberty, generations have lived without knowledge of the outside world. On the outside as the years passed the inhabitants of the exterior set out across ruins of the old world to build new societies, establish new villages, forming tribes.

Some places managed to flourish and recreate the peace of the past while others became stained by the war and turned into torn parodies of civilisation. It is now the year 2253, your birth is now taking place and now.

I have been trying to figure out what would happen if a person was actually transported into a fantasy world with magic and elves and that stuff. How would the MC deal with the new bacteria? Would it kill him soon or would he not care? Is the gravity different on this world but the inhabitants have evolved to not care?

Why isn't there melta cannons for baneblades? If an army of imperial guard can move it then a baneblade should be more than able to mount it.

Because driving forward with group of baneblades with their melta's firing and vaporizing troops, vehicles and titans wouldn't be fun for tau.

For meltas that can be used with vehicles, it basically goes up to either Hellhound size, Predator size (in 30k), and then jumps up to Titan size.

You're better off using a Shadowsword, which has a giant lascannon. That has the anti-vehicle fuckery you want from a melta, but a lot more range and control.

Because no one will buy a 450+ point model which is almost guranteed to be whiped out turn two by a model/squad 1/5 the point value because the system hates anything with wheels or treads with a passion while giving bonuses to gundams rockem sockem robots.

Hey /tg/,
I'm trying to rework the combat system for the RPG I'm running, but I'm struggling to add variety. My players are kind of unimaginative and don't often come up with melee attacks besides 'I hit them with my (weapon)', or the occasional 'I hit them in the (body part) with my (weapon)', so I want to come up with a list of more interesting combat attacks that could be reasonably performed by someone proficient with a weapon but not possessing any other special abilities. What I have so far is:

Called shot: Does 1/4 damage, cripples the chosen limb.
Merciful blow: Harder to hit, can't reduce the enemy below 1 HP.
Recklessness: Perform two attacks at a severely reduced chance to hit, but be unable to parry or block the next attack they take.
Disarm: No damage, but take a stat roll against the enemy to make them drop their weapon.
Tackle: No damage, but take a stat roll against the enemy to make you and them fall to the ground.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It is something I've thought about, but I'm not sure how much of a pain in the ass it would be to keep track of. It's definitely something I need to test out at some point though.

Consider this - if your players aren't interested in engagements, you should simply limit the amount of combat in your scenarios and switch focus to what's interesting to your players, not just making fighting more obtuse.
Because they won't use it anyway.

looking for art like this. self contained mini maps of small settlements, castles,villages etc... I want to put together a collection of small locations that want to have on hand for the when the players decide to just go off into the wild and explore stuff. So they might find the random village or small keep or tower that they can explore or just walk into. Small little modules to have handy. Hello there /;tg/;! Tonite I'm bringing you a thread about an up and coming modern-fantasy RPG called "Beyond the Pale"

So far, the dev and a handful of volunteers have worked on a number of miscellaneous things in the RPG amongst a small number of fans on the games blog on tumblr, (beyondthepalerpg.tumblr.com) but they've asked ME to make a thread here, to try to see how others like it. Honestly not some kind of viral marketing thing, they just want to know if there's anything glaringly wrong or could use a tweak. They're just very shy about making threads here, for some reason.

A: Beyond the Pale is an independently developed and written tabletop RPG, intended to be released for free online when completed. The setting is a modern urban fantasy with elements of gothic horror and film noir, drawing inspiration from mythology and folklore from across the globe.

Q: What does the setting include?

A: The setting is based on the idea that humanity got glimpses of the truth but never the entire thing. Folklore, religion, mythology all had elements of truth but rarely saw things for what they truly are. Now, in the modern age, the supernatural world thrives, hidden from view. Elves and trolls live in cities, out of sight, vampires stalk alleyways and even worse things linger in the dark, on the edges of human perception.

Q: What does the title mean?

A: To go “beyond the pale” is an old term to cross over the barrier from lawful country to the wilds, where the king’s law no longer held sway. In this way “Beyond the Pale” references the fact that normal humans go beyond the realm of normalcy and the rules they once knew no longer apply.

Q: Why free?

A: Because this is a project being done out of love and to prove to myself that I can do game design. I don’t want to charge people when this is my first work, even if it is ambitious. I also hesitate to ask for money through crowdfunding because I have yet to produce something tangible. After release a crowdfunding option may be opened to fund expansions.

ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS
Attributes and skills determine a character’s physical and mental aptitudes and proficiency, differentiating them from other characters.

Advancement Points

Attributes and skills are advanced by Advancement Points (AP). Advancement points are usually rewarded after a character reaches a new level, allowing them to spend these points to improve their attributes and skills.

Occasionally, a GM may choose to reward players for quick thinking or engaging roleplaying with additional AP.

Players start their characters at level 1 with 90 AP to spend and gain 20 AP every level afterward.

Spending AP

A character does not need to spend all their AP immediately. They may choose to hold on to all or some of their AP for future investment.

AP can only be spent during an extended rest, such as sleep. If a character is not actively engaged in an extended rest they cannot spend AP.

Both attributes and skills increase in cost as they are improved. All characters start with rank 1 in each attribute.

Has anyone ever tried doing a super rules light game? I'm talking like just rolling a d20 and deciding the outcome on that alone.

When John Harper's developing a game he starts with an idea for a core resolution mechanic, and anything else is decided by a coinflip.
If he finds there's a lot of coinflips, he builds a new subsystem to handle those. When the coinflips stop happening, the system is finished. This results in games with little or no rules bloat.
