The phrase invokes imagery of artificial limbs and technological super powers. But Cybernetics don't just describe the modification of the human body to a more technologically integrated organism.

The more relevant side of Cybernetics by far is the idea of the world as a complex system that must be managed. Ecology, economy, social values, everything is seen as a black box that can be controlled by reading a few simple indicators and adjusting a few simple conditions. The old idea of man as the pinnacle of creation at the center of a universe defined by individualism has somehow made its way from ancient cults into the age of Cyberspace - the place that makes the inner dynamics of humans readable to a machine.

And this is good for roleplaying because it is fiction and tales need ideas to deconstruct.

How does your setting outline the robotic qualities of characters in society? How does dealing with that conformity turn it into a story?

And what other ruling principles could be put in contrast?

Interesting way to bring a party together:

A take on the idea of the sort of hive mind of interconnected cyborgs that's usually not done would for the government to either be neutral or opposed to human hives as individualism is popular among both the general populace and the political landscape.

Gangs of cyborgs come together to link themselves over networks to strengthen their unity. Many of the punks doing this still keep their punk aesthetic and ideologies, but they often act and feel as one.
>>
religous and social enclaves that do this as a means of solidarity and unity. Not well taken to on Earth mainly because you have some groups trying to get the privilage of being an individual in some instances while being a group of individuals in others for various legal purposes.

But this goes in degrees: in some cases the link is just to strengthen their bond with each other, they are still individuals and view themselves as such where others require conformity of indentity making you assume a new name ( and even apperance).

This needed to be asked?

hello dear /tg/. I come hear seeking your ideas as you are immensely creative as a group.
Im working on a D&D 5e adventure for my group. I taking inspiration from two sources.. The Black Company series and Berserk. What i mean is that the characters will start as low ranking soldiers in a mercenary unit hired to maintain peace in a large city (just like at the start of the Black Company first book). They need to bash some heads in and make sure people fear the company. And then they will have to deal with something big (im thinking a displacer beast) and see many of their comrades killed. Then... after the Lord who hired them is killed they can decide to keep the city and take care of it as their own. Maybe the captain decides he had enough of getting dangerous assignment in random places on the continent and he want to appoint himself as lord of the land and administer it. Now... I need ideas on where should the story go to ? What is the end game ? What would be interesting for a gruop of players. I wanna keep the Forgotten Realms setting (monsters, magic, etc) but I want to maybe work some Game of Thrones in there as intrigue goes. Maybe the party wants to rule so they want to depose the captain and become nobility ? and as such they shoul work for different houses in the city and quest for them in order to obtain favor and support ? or maybe something bigger is coming their way and they should take actions to delay it and fortify as mercenary company ? maybe an event like in Berserk happens were all Hell gets loose and they need to fight it off ? Or Maybe some great mage like the Dominator has an eye on the city and will want to lay siege ? I need cool ideas you think would be interesting and involving. I also want to add some npc to create a small retinue for each player. Like 1-2 soldiers from the company who will do things for them and tun things for them when they are away.

Okay, but we're also assholes. I don't know if you're going to like this.

>Im working on a D&D 5e adventure for my group. I taking inspiration from two sources.. The Black Company series and Berserk. What i mean is that the characters will start as low ranking soldiers in a mercenary unit hired to maintain peace in a large city (just like at the start of the Black Company first book).

What level are the characters starting at? When you say low-ranking, they're Corporals / Lance Corporals in modern terms? Or they're low-ranking NCOs, with a few much lower ranking men under their command?

>They need to bash some heads in and make sure people fear the company. And then they will have to deal with something big (im thinking a displacer beast) and see many of their comrades killed.

Heads up - give something stats, and PCs will find a way to kill it. Or kill themselves trying to kill it. What level the characters are will matter here.

>Then... after the Lord who hired them is killed they can decide to keep the city and take care of it as their own. Maybe the captain decides he had enough of getting dangerous assignment in random places on the continent and he want to appoint himself as lord of the land and administer it.

An important point - if the players are low-ranking members of the company, THEY aren't deciding shit about the fate of the city. Instead, I'd have the captain of the company decide one thing, and perhaps one or two of his lieutenants decide another - a brief bit of infighting in the company, and the players decide which side (if any) they want to come down on. Make it a close thing, whichever side they pick, who wins - maybe they stay with the captain, and just barely put down the revolt; maybe they side with the "let's go back to doing our fucking job" lieutenant, and just barely avoid being called traitors and killed.

Literally How is this balanced?
How long before shes removed from standard?
Are new Eldrazi werewolves shit?
Why are Wizards of the Coast trying so hard to replace slivers with Allies?
How many friendships will end thanks to the new expansion?

What are the historical events that gave birth to the Chaos Gods?
22 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>49090639
The way I was told, Khorne was first, and existed when the first man killed his brother in anger, or as the Mongols began to claim their empire. Nurgle came from the black plague. Tzeentch was born from the Machiavellian era. Slannesh is from the eldar empire, but historically probably the 60's.
>>
>>49090821
You mean "awakened".

The Chaos Gods always existed in the Warp. That's how Be'lakor contacted them before any of them "awakened". The Harlequins also state that the Primordial Annihilator aka Chaos has been waging war on the universe since the dawn of time.
>>
>>49090639

As concepts they've always existed, it's only when the warp was tainted and corrupted by the war in heaven that 'Chaos' as we know it came to be.

Khorne as a god was probably born in that time, as was Nurgle. War tends to breed hatred and despair quite well.

Tzeentch was more than likely born during the same period, but a little bit later. More than likely he was fueled by the desperate hopes of all the species caught in the crossfire when the Kork, Necrons, Eldar, Old Ones, and C'tan all decided today was the day to fuck some shit up.

Slaanesh also existed as a concept, but was more than likely spread out over many different fertility gods, gods of happiness, ect ect. Basically any god that thought with his, or her, dick/vagina first and brain second if at all

When the Eldar started to redefine what the word Perverted meant then the distaff parts of it coalesced using them as a focal point, then boom, Fall of the Eldar and birth of the new Chaos god.

i want to build a magic deck that tries to steal the opponent's cards and effectively play their deck against them, and i'd be really happy about some card suggestions.

i agree that it seems hilariously weak and very casual, but i also had weirdly amazing success with it in a few rounds on cockatrice while testing a simple build. the first one was a casual game where the guy played a gleemax (the unhinged "choose all targets" 1000000 mana card) expecting me to conceed, and i immediately followed up with my own gleemax through clever impersonation and he conceeded right.

what i played back then was basically mostly >4cmc spells (treachery, bribery, acquire, annex, aethersnatch, clever impersonator, cards of the type i'm looking for) with me doing absolutely nothing the first 4-6 rounds and not having any real way to respond to anything. ponder and retraced image (for the 20 islands) where the only 1cmc spells besides 4x divert (change a target), the rest was all 4 and over, so it was horribly slow and lame, but it did unreasonably well in the few legacy testing rounds i played. either their deck was extremely slow to get going, or they pummeled me mercilessly until turn 5 or 6, at which point i just took complete control of the board by simply taking all their stuff. playing a treachery while floating mana, then cleverly impersonating that while floating more mana and ultimately taking a bunch of their creatures in order to play some other high mana shit (like annexing their manlands or copying something important, or a mulldrifter), and then still having a whole bunch untapped in order to aethersnatch and comandeer and desertion their big response.

it sounds absolutely retarded and slow and ineffective, but it really did work unreasonably well, and it was an unimaginable amount of fun. so i'm looking for some card suggestions that would also be fun to play in this theme (taking their stuff, playing their deck), yet be weirdly effective in a legacy setting.

i'm basically looking for help finding cards or mechanics that let you use your opponent's cards. the terms for this can be really different and hard to search for, and i keep finding new related cards randomly even though i searched for very similar card texts and phrasings over and over. stuff like word of command, which lets you control an opponent and force them to pay for and play a card. hope someone has suggestions for quirky and particular cards like these.

Blue is the color of choice, mate. Redirect and Misdirection are good choices as they let you turn your opponent's spells back at their own things, as well as a multitude of Clone creatures that come into play as copies of other creatures. Might I recommend some Stunt Doubles? Flash clones are the best.

>Asked DM if I can make a perception check to see if locksmith is in crowd
>"He's not." K.
>Walk up to town elders and take a risk: I sidle up to one of them and say (perfectly emulating locksmiths voice via Actor):
>"I can't believe this happened again."
>"Shhh not in front of the outsiders."
>justasplanned.avi
>Had been hiding my telepathic powers from the party but I was forced to use them to surreptitiously convince the party to leave the area.
>Btw I had told the DM that the elders should probably be rolling Investigation checks to detect my disguise but he said they were too busy; fair enough
>As the party is leaving the bard decides (for some reason) to play the drum and try and pied piper the townspeople down to the tavern. >While their kids were in a hole.
>Without being required to roll any dice, the bard successfully disperses the ENTIRE crowd, leaving the party standing there with the elders.
>The elders say: "Fine you can go down and save them but you have to come right back out"
> Turn to me, still in disguise: "What are you still doing here?"
>I was so caught offguard by this chain of events that I just left and ran back undisguised.

If Gandalf knew that Bilbo had "a great ring, that much was obvious from the beginning," how did he not instantly know it was the One Ring? It's explicitly stated that only the One Ring was unadorned, so Gandalf should have instantly seen this.

Hurka Durka here

What would go into a european chop suey themed setting?

I'm running something lighthearted, stereotypical, and over the top

East asian settings are usually kung-fu or other martial arts, panda bears, spirits and gods of everything, chopsticks, opium, lots of bowing, shrines, honor obsession, burning incense, cherry blossoms, some sort of emperor, mecha, paper fans, ninjas, ruthless businessmen, dragons, dramatic billowing clothing, etc.

Middle-Eastern settings basically come down to genies, sheiks, sultans, thieves, belly dancers, sandstorms, mysterious cities of magic, god kings, miracles, merchants, camels, religious fanatics, seductresses with black hair, golden skin, and khol painted eyes, doomsaying prophets, oil princes, crazed dictators who keep the even crazier tribals in line with more crazy, hummus, and spec ops battling guys in suicide vests and AKs from behind Humvees

What of Europe?

All I got in mind is knights and colusseums
20 posts and 1 images submitted.

Jack the Ripper (or equivalent serial murderers), werewolves, diplomacy over tea, overbearing kings/queens, disputes between kingdoms (whether war or backstabbery), espionage, quests for grails, bands of merry men (can be archers as well as knights), secret orders of men sworn to silence, meetings in sleazy bars and dark alleys, interludes on foggy nights, cloak and dagger, witchcraft, the fear of God.
A lot of these things are associated with Britain, but I don't know enough about Spanish, French, Finnish, Belgian, Swedish, etc. folklore and legends to even begin to touch on such examples.

Have snooty nobles and upperclassmen in big, stupid outfits. Have superstitious peasants scared shitless over everything. I think the needle is like a... bayonet? It has a, what.. is it a flash suppressor? That can't be a needle launcher, surely. It's a pistol stubber with a syringe taped to the underside.

I mean I know we're nogunz here but surely we know the basics, and that you can't fire needles like bullets.
