How to feel about D&D being the face of this hobby? The game that EVERYONE knows, and mentions when they talk about roleplaying games?
Personally, I don't mind that much despite not liking any D&D games since AD&D 2e. But it is also kind of irritating because I'd like more normies to get interested in other kinds of games, but they often play DND once and stick with that for the an ungodly amount of time. I mean check Twitch and 98% of the games played there is D&D or Pathfinder.

If you are GMing, remember...
1. To strongly consider giving out at least one free "tax feat," like Expertise and pre-errata Melee Training.
2. To use Monster Manual 3/Monster Vault/Monster Vault: Nentir Vale/Dark Sun Creature Catalog math. Avoid or manually update anything with Monster Manual 1 or 2 math.
3. That skill challenges have always been scene-framing devices for the GM, that players should never be overtly told that they are in a skill challenge, and that the Rules Compendium has the most up-to-date skill DCs and skill challenge rules.
If you would like assistance with character optimization, remember to tell us what the what the rest of the players are playing, what books are allowed, your starting level, the highest level you expect to reach, what free feats you receive, if anything is banned, whether or not themes are allowed, your starting equipment, and how much you dislike item-dependent builds.
If you wish to talk about settings, 4e's settings are Points of Light (the planes and the natural world's past empires are heavily detailed in various sourcebooks and magazines), 4e Forgotten Realms, 4e Eberron, 4e Dark Sun, and whatever setting you would like to bring into 4e.

I liked 4th, it was different but combat had a real fun fresh feeling and it was much easier to teach to first time players than say, 3.5 or 5th.
I am legitimately thinking of running a new adventure in 4th rather than my go to of fantasy craft.

You probably remember this, /tg.
It was mid 90's and this shit was the bomb. The rich kid had it and after a few hours down the dungeon you had to have it too.
The artwork, the lore, the easy to pick-up rule set. Nobody wanted to be the fairy, everyone wanted to be the dwarf.
And the expansions...good lawdy, almost as expensive as the new game but worth every penny.
But I wonder if a trip down nostalgia lane is worth a hundred bucks. I'm thinking about getting a box from ebay, but only the trash auctions are below 100 euro.
Also how do you get replacement? Are you still playing HQ today, /tg? Does the game still hold up?

The Rich kid? It was like $20 in 1991. Which adjusted for inflation is $39. Nintendo games were like $50+ back then.
Anyway Heroquest is a great game for kids to get into tabletop gaming but it's boring as fuck for adults. I say that as someone who owns two copies and dearly loved the game as a boy. Can't wait till my kids are old enough to play. The components are good quality as well.

I wish my set was in better shape (I have a frankenstein set made from two I got at garage sales for a few dollars, and both boxes are trashed).
I tried playing a game last year and it's boring unless everyone at the table is nostalgic for it. If I hadn't bought them for pocket change in the early 2000's I wouldn't spend the money now.
I used the minis for D&D mostly, and got a lot of mileage out of them that way.
By and large though, I suggest letting nostalgia go... indulging that kind of urge is what leads to people being buried in a house full of useless old crap. Maybe you should buy up some cheap fantasy minis and make up your own dungeon crawl game!

Yeah. I'm thinking of giving up slow fall as well, if anyone complains that he's too OP or specialized. He's supposed to be more like a monk-colossus. Why dodge when you can channel ki to make your skin iron-hard?
He obviously can't run on water and stuff like that. But he succeeds in being a monk without one of monk's main weaknesses: AC.
