Anyone else obsessed with messing around with dice mechanics on anydice to find the perfect curve for your game?

I'm kinda losing my religion right now with mine. Its a dice pool system, counting dice past a target number as successes, and I was pretty happy with where I got it. But after some playtesting I've become unsatisfied with the small range of viable difficulties is allows for and the need to keep pools small for practicality. Furthermore, reading up on systems like ORE and Legends of the Wulin has made me feel like I'm settling for far less than I should for a dice mechanic. Simple pass/fail rolls don't contribute as much to game-play as alternative possibly could.

Does anyone else know any odd dice mechanics to look at for inspiration?

Probably to this day I have only read 5 systems through before making my own mishmash of several systems with some unique mechanics.

I have some steep problems, but it's not because of my system. It's because of playtesting. I can't playtest properly because I stress about GMing too much. I can barely GM once a week and even then I'm exhausted.

I even made my own system compatible with my own GMing style to ease the burden of the GM and thus, mine. But then my playtester asked for maps and I'm fucking stuck in a rut. I can't make maps for the life of me.

Instead I'm downloading pro architecture programs to try to create a wireframe of one locale that I want to be perfect... Which isn't even in the setting I'm GMing currently!

He probably keeps moving, because I doubt he'd be there if there isn't still shit to kill

Depends on the Chapter. In quite a few, that's a backstory for a new Marine.

What chapter?

Some chapters might want to make this child kill other children to see if it could become a neophyte.

Some marines in yellow might find some handy work for it to do.

Building a half-Sun elf favored soul of Lathander for a new game. I was going to go with 10 14 14 12 10 17 for stats. He gets medium armor so with a chain shirt, which I should be able to get pretty quick since it costs 50g, and a shield, he'll have 17 ac. If I carry a shield in one hand and an implement in the other, can I cast spells? The favored soul seems pretty powerful, is it so powerful in your opinion it might ruin the game for other players? I'll choose something else if that's the case...

You can't use the shield and cast until you get warcaster. The focus only handles material components.

Why not make BBEG get his hands on NPC and have PC's fight against the clock to mount a rescue operation.
They will sure have a reason to hate the villain and an extra motive to get emotionally involved.

I use a character named Carl when my play group starts a new system. He is always helpful, friendly and shows my players the ropes. I kill Carl everytime in awful ways. Head blown apart while he drives pcs to saftey. Set on fire and screams until he collapses and dies. Found tortured by mobsters, telling the group that he didnt break before he dies. His death is usally sudden and out of nowhere. Everytime they run into a Carl they get attached.

Maybe weathering your foes' ineffectual attacks and simply whacking them? An endless series of bodyslams? Maybe you don't actually hit them, but they tear something vital trying to wound this invincible hunk of flesh-rock?

...actually, I just realized our 4 player are each carrying part of his inquisitorial gear. Captain has his Rosarius, seneschal has the Rosetta, Voidmaster has his storm shield, Priest has his Force Sword.

..I wonder if our GM intended that.
