You put up the match-up image instead of the collection sheet. I'm honored. The rules for the rest of the Ice Age will be reposted again here in a moment. The post that begins this Round is copied here:
Welcome to Round Five. Two Hundred and Twenty Two Snowflakes are now only Eight.
The first match-up is as follows:
>Ka'Koarm

Ka'Koarm defeated the following Flakes over the course of the Ice Age:
>Round One: Sajek
>Round Two: Iohannes
>Round Three: Varametra
>Round Four: Narimi and Andromeda
>Ivander

Ivander defeated the following Flakes over the course of the Ice Age:
>Round One: Ivander was given a bye when Unit IV was disqualified.
>Round Two: Sonia
>Round Three: Sumarru
>Round Four: Tok and Del
The first battle of the Quarterfinals begins...
DISCUSS!
>>49616295
The Rules from now on are slightly different:
>During each round, flakes will be assigned to random opponents in single-elimination tournament fashion.
>Flakes will be treated as though they are all neowalkers in order to create a balance of power.
>Flakes with meme-levels of power will be treated as though they weren’t.
>During each round, small groups of flake match-ups will be revealed
>Arguments and votes will be taken from the thread over which flake is likely to prevail over the other.
>Discussion in the thread now takes a greater deal of importance: polls will only be released after a considerably reasonable amount of serious discussion has taken place.
>Polls will be up for 24 hours after their opening.
>Polls that appear to have been tampered with will result in a replay of that match.
>Ties will be broken by chance.
>After each round, the flakes that move on will be re-randomized on the roster to make match-ups unpredictable.

I'm voting for Ivander because I still like Puppers over Digimon 2.0

Fauna of the Void
Minor states of Rahoo

Sheets and more sheets
Song of Swords is a realistic fantasy tabletop RPG that draws inspiration from historical fechtbuchs, weapons and armor. Its combat system is fast and it can be used for both fantasy and historical/mundane settings. Inevitably, you will always have that one gay ass zell in the party everyone works together to kill.
Call of the Void is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

I'm panicking, this has such a small chance of being the type of game I would actually want to play, that is to say, one where roleplaying is actually involved rather than memes and unfunny jokes and hitting player stats against monster stats endlessly. But I haven't played in so long, I still think I'm gonna do it.
Anything I can do to lessen the disappointment once game night comes around, or even trick myself into having fun with this inevitable clusterfuck?

Have you ever played in or ran a superhero game?
>>49626856
No I have not. At least not in Chronicles system. I've run well meaning but still obviously dark/evil characters with powers beyond mortal means. But never Superheroes.
>>49626856
Nope. I have actual superhero RPGs for that.

Cosmic encounter
>Have you ever dabbled with designing a game? If so, how far did you get through the process?
No but seems like a fun task
>>49599075
>What's your personal favorite game?
I have way to many games I really like to come up with 'one' favorite game. My favorite category is apparently 'Space 4x' as I own 6 or 7 games in that category alone.
>What's your main group's overall favorite game?
They like the lighter games so far - I'd say Citadels was a hit. That said, I'm slowly working them into the heavier games.
>Have you ever dabbled with designing a game? If so, how far did you get through the process?
I can't say I've seriously tried my hand at game design. I have considered researching / writing a book on the history of ancient board gaming and comparing with modern gaming design of the last 20 years or so.
>>49599075
>What's your personal favorite game?
CitOW
>What's your main group's overall favorite game?
Right now, Scythe. Before that it was Machi Koro, before that was Ticket, before that was Puerto Rico.
I have an odd group.
>Have you ever dabbled with designing a game? If so, how far did you get through the process?
I'm in the very, very initial design stages of an asymmetrical area control set in the post-apocalyptic Mojave desert (between the Confederated Californian Community Protectorate, Mr. Hues and his army of wooden robots, a mysterious one-man-army postman with the backing of various local communities, and the Legion) (suck it ZeniMax you can't trademark Roman-inspired post-apoc warriors), and a mission-based point-to-point drafting game set in the solar system as described by Flash Gordon in the Nameless General.
I'm taking physics and compsci and I work part-time so I don't have very much time to devote to this.
Why aren't there any good grand strategy tabletop RPGs? This genre seems like it would be popular, given how much people are attracted to things like kingdom management and civ quests.
Hell I'd even take wargaming rules for combat if only there was some kind of mechanism for the rest of it. It doesn't even need to be a traditional party centric game, PvP and solo w/ GM would both be completely fine.
>>49651493
Well there was Birthright, but nobody played it
>>49651493
tabletop would be harder to manage all the stuff
>>49651512
It doesn't need to be mechanically complicated, though. Besides, in many ways it's far more challenging to construct a ruleset that accurately reflects the individual level. It shouldn't be that difficult, and clearly there's the demand for it - so why no games?
>>49651507
Let me preempt this kind of suggestion by stating up front that D&Dshit of any variety doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Suddenly, Wizards announces Monster Manual 2. What monsters do you want to see (other than a bigger dragon turtle)?
>>49650746
Are there guides to creating monsters?
Also, why is every monster or NPC xd8?
Im a long time DM and my group of newbies are about to hit their first proper town.
What are your quintessential urban encounters, DM's of /tg/? So far im thinking fortune tellers, witnessing an exotic dance troupe, a trip to the gambling den to get cheated out of money... Give me your best ones.
In answer to the question, monster manual 2 should include a bunch of guidelines for making campaign level villains, much like the book of villains for 2e did.
>>49650772
Literally the DMG AND MM desu
Should a wizard gain XP if they decide to spend some serious time studying in a library of magic?
>>49650618
Depends on the game.
In 5e, I made the houserule that you can spend gold for XP. So if the wizard spent his share of gold on that, sure.
>>49650618
>using a system with xp
>>49650618
I would say nah but I generally don't do general rewards. If he's studying at a library of magic, why not a magic-related reward like a magical feat related to their studies or something small like being able to eschew a certain component from all their material costs or learning how to substitute it for a different component or cheaper one if your campaign does that. Or a greater proficiency with a certain spell or school of spells or whatever, like being able to cast all illusion spells at 1 CL higher or something. Or maybe another spellslot that's 1 or 2 levels below their current highest level spell, so like an extra level 1 spellslot or 2 even though they're level 7 or whatever. Or the obvious: that they can learn a spell, or even create their own ooc and use this as a means of learning it, partially or wholly--or even learning how to create their own spells even if of a certain school or type or whatever.
But just giving XP is lame. Be creative nyugga, break the rules but in a way that promotes them to be more invested.

/tg/, Thornwatch is a mere 8 hours from closing and there's still time to unlock more cool shit.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/loneshark/thornwatch
>What is Thornwatch?
It's a tabletop adventure game set in a mystic forest where players take on the roles of guardians long dead, but returned to life for tasks no one else can accomplish.
>How does it play?
One player is the Judge, who sets the story and challenges for the Thornwatch; each other player is a member of the Watch.
The Judge controls all other characters, friendly and hostile, and the monsters the inhabit the Eyrewood. He has cards for each character and creature under his command. Members of the Thornwatch each have a deck of cards, symbolizing his skills. Wounds they receive also go to their deck and if a character has too many wound cards, he's dead.
While the Thornwatch decks cover exclusively combat, each scene and story also has different challenges that they have to overcome. The game also use Trait cards and description prompts to incourage roleplay, rewarding the players who get in character but without creating much of a rift between those who do and those who are still too shy/inexperienced for that.
The campaign is about 200 backers from having every goal unlocked. Take a look at the kickstarter videos and the comics and maybe it'll convince you to be one of the two hundred left.

It's kinda racist they decided "steampunk but no Brits, because Brits = empire = evil" while keeping good British influence like not burning wives on their husbands' funeral pyres.
Cultural appropriation, so to speak. Erasure.
>>49643442
Meh.
Buying a couple of singles for Commander, I like Demon of Dark Schemes. But apart from that I couldn't care less.
Certainly not enough to entice me back to Standard, and the mechanics are boring enough I don't want to make a kitchen table deck around them.
>>49643442
>>49643442
new mechanics: shit
setting: too modern and weird for my taste. They're pushing steampunk way too hard. However it's noticeable that they were trying to focus on the art over everything else.
I guess it's up to me edition.
Scion 2e is now on Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/scion-2nd-edition-tabletop-rpg
Scion is a mythologically focused urban fantasy game set in a world where Gods and mythical beasts still walk the earth at the fringes of society, their worship never truly going away. Players take on the role of the children of these deities, blessed with ichor and extraordinary gifts. The line's core feature is the rising tiers of power as your character goes from their Origins as an exceptional mortal, growing into a powerful Hero, taking on the mantle of a Demigod, and finally reaching Apotheosis and taking your place alongside--or in opposition to--your divine parents as a God.

What do you look forward to in Scion? What kind of games are you looking to play or run?
>>49629334
Is there anything even left to talk about at this point? Maybe we should save future generals until the game is actually out.
>>49629518
So we can't talk about 1st edition? I was hoping too considering I have a Ragnarok game I am about to start running this Thursday.
>>49629995
We can, so long as it doesn't turn into "we were lied to!" whining.
>>49629518
Well the Kickstarter is still ongoing, so if nothing else the thread drums up a minuscule amount of traffic, not that the game needs it. I mostly use the thread to know what people on the forums or Kickstarter page are saying without having to actually do any legwork myself.
Are Barbarians any gud in 5e? They're always my favorite martial class.
All martial classes are underpowered in all editions,
it sucks building a Barbarian only to see him dominated off a cliff on the first round by some flimsy magical bastard.
>>49653296
Yes, they're good. I've heard bad things about berserker subclass, but I honestly don't get it.
Also, I'm somehow SURE that asshole who's shilling for Dungeon World in every thread is going to show up in a post or two, shitting on 5e.
>>49654166
This is a lot less true in 5e, and the thing you're mentioning literally every class is vulnerable to. If anything I find DMs more willing to blast the fuck out of the casters BECAUSE of this notion that they are superior to martials.
To answer your question OP, Barbarians are probably the "worst" martial in 5e but it's not be a very big margin. Hell, if you go totem archetype you become probably the tankiest thing in the game.
