I graduated from a good college debt free, and I've been working as a programmer for some time. I make 100k a year and just got married to my wife, who just got her residency after she graduated from medical school
Anyways, our first child is on its way, but we would like to start age of sigmar. My wife and I are both looking into starting Stormcast Eternals because they look like those space marines from Warhammer 40k, but awesome and fantasyfied, like Game of Thrones
We can spend at least $1000 on our first army, though we would like to keep it cheap to around $800, what do you guys reccomend?
Also, which army do you think would be best for my wife and I based on our weekly schedule? On Monday-Thursday, we just work, and sleep. On friday, we got down to the local rave and dance. On Saturday, my wife attends an art show to show off her her awesome art, her art is amazing, her art is essentially picasso and jackson pollock combined
on sunday, we go out on a nature walk, to revel in how amazing nature is. Right now, we just bought a bunch of forge world models. i think they are called death corp of krieg, or the krieg korp or something like that but we are using them as chess pieces for when our parents come visit on christmas

How would you run a Hellgate tabletop? What kind of system would work best to emulate the setting?
Demonic, grim, post-apocalyptic world where gates to hell were opened and released demons to destroy the world. Somewhat futuristic technology with humans trying to fight back against the evil while hiding underground. The player just went on missions to try and close the major gates.
It had only a simple 3 classes and only humans as races.
Templar: Holy melee class. Sword and board or dual wielding.
Hunter: Ranged class. Marksman or engineer with bots.
Cabalist: Demonic caster. Could be a summoner or evoker.
Making custom classes and equipment isn't too much of a problem, but does anyone have any suggestions for a system that will either support the setting or have adaptable rules for me to mess with? GURPS is always a fallback, but I'd rather find something else before resorting to it, as it is complex.
>>49670957
Did that game ever even fucking come out? I remember being hype about it with the previews but then it seemed like it totally disappeared.
>>49670975
Not OP but i did come out. It was buggy as hell though. Fun, but buggy as hell.
I'd probably use heavily refluffed Shadowrun if i was to run a HGL game. Apocalypse World would perhaps work as well
>>49670975
It came out, then died, then got bought by some Korean company and remade into Hellgate Tokyo. I think it's still going.
I think a Nob could 1v1 Emperor at his full strenght.
You may think that but you're wrong.
>>49670764
No I'm not Emperor got put on a golden throne because a Gretchin slapped him a Nob would outright murder him.
>>49670694
>Thinking that anyone other than God himself could fight the emperor
lol
I'm playing an Old Testament like lawful evil dwarf cleric in my d&d 5e session tomorrow. Any tips on roleplaying? I found this and it seems to be pretty fitting for the character

> Old Testament
> Evil
>>49670293
If you mean "Old testament" as "if you mess up you die," then I would look more to how the scribes, Pharisees and Saducees lived during the time of Jesus Christ. THAT might be the evil you're looking for.
>>49670399
Actually, yes. By modern standards, old testament God is a total dick.
>Moses goes to Pharaoh
>"Let my people goooooooo!"
>Pharaoh thinks about it, because Moses does some minor miracles
>Almost says yes
>God hardens his heart
>Piss off, Moses
>Starts raining frogs, hallelujah
>Almost lets them go
>God hardens his heart
>Death of the firstborns
It was like the cosmic equivalent of the old "stop hitting yourself" routine.
Why do people keep perpetuating the "Savage Worlds is fast and simple" meme?
It's lighter than GURPS, sure, but it's not at all a HARD AND FAST system. Combat can take a LOT of time, and a simple shootout between two small parties (3-4 men each) can take over half and hour to resolve.
Is my group just super slow, or do people just claim SW is fast without having ever played it?
>>49670154
I thought it was pretty slow too. It felt like everyone was a stormtrooper firing at close range.
>>49670154
D&D 3.5 kids, is my guess. If that's your baseline (and it was for a lot of folks) then SW will seem fast and simple.
Really depends on how fast fast is.
Its a lot faster than pathfinder, certainly. Once you get the hang of passing out initiative and just going with it I feel like it goes pretty fast.
I'm a new dm trying to run a campaign for 3 friends plus my girlfriend.
The problem is, every time I play I end up not giving my girlfriend enough attention during gameplay, and she ends up feeling useless and unhelpful.
Is there anything I can do to try to make her feel useful without coddling her and giving her the solutions? Or am I just doomed to have a GM's girlfriend scenario?
>>49670086
Play a game that's not D&D.
1) It will be a better experience for all involved and 2) women, who are naturally bad with complex ideas and numbers, will have a much easier time with virtually any other system.
For an airheaded dullard like the female, something simple is best, probably Storyteller, CofD in particular.
Maybe your girlfriend isn't fit for cooperative play and story telling. Maybe she needs to learn how to make herself useful and helpful instead of getting mopey whenever things don't go her way.
Maybe get her to play while someone else DMs so that there isn't that implied obligation to give her more screen time.
Most likely its that shit isn't the type to really enjoy table top games.
>>49670219
This guy is obviously bait but idgaf.
It sounds like his problem is with her, not the system. He didn't say she was having trouble with rules. The problem seems to be a spotlight one.
>>49670285
D&D is far too math and planning intensive for the average woman to become comfortable with. The system is absolutely part of the problem.
I'm hosting a game of Runequest that's homebrewed to fuck and my players want to play child characters, they are all nobles belonging to different elven families living in trees
It's basically Naruto as the way I made magic was Arcane being illusionary and the second hardest to learn, Zhuf magic the bending of reality and blood magic being hereditary spells.
Everyone has their own special blood magic hereditary line, players have family back stories they wrote themselves from edgy to funny
What the fuck kind of adventures can kids do in an anachronistic setting with all this? I've played with these players before and they are all brilliant roleplayed but I've no clue what I can send them to do that isn't mundane or unreasonable for children
Can you help me /tg/? This isn't my magical realm but I'm not willing to let my players down after the work they put in.
>>49669412
well, define child in terms relevant to elves.
are they equivalent to human children, teenagers, high school juniors/seniors, or twenty year olds. i am over 40 and consider most people under 25 to be kids. especially if and when they behave like children.
>>49670188
Age is around 14ish in human years
>>49669412
Depending on how strong these kids are, I'd make them do regular kid things. Not quite dungeon delving, but maybe they go for a picnic or adventure or something and they find a lone goblin. Have them try to sneak some other party member who's grounded out of their house, or maybe they want to hunt rabbits for dinner and they attacked by a wolf.
Disclaimer: I'm not good at this and you shouldn't take anything I say seriously.
I LOVE Alekhine's Defense, /tg/.
What do YOU love?
I like that one opening I actually know how to play. I forgot how it's called.
the one that is
e4 e5
Nc3 Nf6
>>49669275
1…c5 or 1…c6 is better for Black and as White 1. e4 isn't the best move to start with.

What would happen if a genestealer ate a retarded kid?
>>49668568
Retarded genestealer hopefully (I haven't got a clue).
>>49668568
Depends if Tyranids can isolate the gene for retard strength.
>>49668568
They'd look something like you.
I've never seen a monk played in 3.5 or PF well. I've seen the unarmed swordsage, but not the monk. If my current character in my PF game dies, I'm thinking about a monk. How do you make one well?
You don't. Not in 3.5/PF. Martials suck utterly there, and monk sucks the most out of all martials.
>>49668508
Unchained Monk effectively gets pounce with flying kick and is therefore about as good as a martial is ever going to get.
>>49668508
There are quite a few alternatives. None of them break out of T3 though. Unchained monk is the most straightforward.
If you liked the swordsage stuff, there's a 3rd party supplement for PF based on Tome of Battle, that has a monk archetype which gives it initiating.
Do you have NPCs show romantic or sexual interest in your players' characters where it makes sense? I don't mean 'you bang the barmaid,' but an actual developing relationship where the banter is part of the roleplay.
Add if you game online or in person, too.
Sure, if only to horribly crush their romance interest and make my players more miserable.
>>49668321
In text games.
In voice games it's awkward to roleplay romance so we just mention it off-screen.
>>49668516
Neutral Evil
This is how I LARP
>>49667731
If you try and LARP in that all those balloons are going to pop very quickly.
>>49667912
>those balloons are going to pop very quickly
At which point I role-play painful injury.
I note that the balloons are filled with slime.
>>49667731
actually, that's not a bad idea. I pretty much like that idea

Maybe i too will be able to start that long forgotten project and amass an army of dwarfs and buy some bretonnian knights just for the sake of it
Do you ever have fourth wall breaking in your games?
Stuff like NPCs knowing that they're in a game, acknowledging that the player characters are "special" etc.
How well does it work? Should it be done or is it off limits?
>>49667683
People are free.
But I think it's just about the lamest gimmick and I struggle to remember one instance in any medium where it was even mediocre.
>>49667683
I think the furthest I've done it was a recurring NPC casual noting how weird it is that the PCs always seem to show up in time to help with some weird thing going on in his life. It was just a casual joke and it never went any further, as I don't think it should if you want to have serious game.
If you want to joke around however, its a good way to get a laugh as long as you use it sparingly I'd say. It loses it's humor if you use it too often.
>>49667683
I'm going to play a slightly deranged 14-year old soldier who talks to himself and refers to himself as "we"
I am going to break the fourth wall, if I get a chance where it's funny
