Has anyone played Space 1889?

I am thinking about running a one shot for my group.

Should I get the original, the Savage Worlds version, or the new version?

Are you for individual rights? Are you for restricting activity? tribe or dissenter? free trade or regulation?

tell me how you would create the alignment matrix?
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>49687955
I feel like a general system of allegiances and principles would be better than an alignment chart. What sorts of things do you value? Are you willing to put your own wants above other people's needs? Would you sacrifice someone for the sake of a mission? What sect or religion are you intimately loyal to? A variety of small questions that help flesh out a character. They don't have to all be filled in up front, and it would probably be better to work them in as you play.
>>
First I'd need a reason to create one. "Just because" isn't a good enough reason to have alignments.

Quick Lore question: is there a reason the Black Crusades can't just bypass Cadia? Why not just stay in the warp till you're on the other side of the gate?

Something something Red Path

They've tried to explain and re-explain it for years now, and honestly I'd like it more if they just kind of started ignoring Cadia during the crusades
Yes Cadia can still be the "elite" planet because being near the EoT subjects them to constant raids, but the Crusades can go off to Ultramar, Baal, and Necromunda instead of always coming back to Cadia.

Cant any warp-capable vessel teleport from any point A to B through the warp?

Why dont they all just warp to Terra?
>>
>>49687700
>Why dont they all just warp to Terra?
Maybe the Lighthouse has some *magic* that prevents evildoers from getting close? And in the time it would take them to reach Terra from the edge of their warp-jump, they know the whole Imperium would have arrived and be waiting?

Writing up a description for goblins for an upcoming game got me thinking about setting theory.

Let's say, for the purpose of this thread, that there exists a race whose existence is in some ways literally "a Satanic parody of mankind". They're human beings, but with all their worst traits (personality and physical) exaggerated and very few of the good ones. Each one looks different but by-and-large they're all very ugly and their personalities are dreadful. They're selfish, sadistic, cowardly, gluttonous, greedy, lazy, disloyal, rude, etc. On average they're just as intelligent as humans, but they can come off as stupid because they're just so cartoonishly malicious.

I wrote a little bit about goblin society, which does fit the setting, but:

How WOULD a race of beings like that would form a society? How do you create anything like a stable social order within a race where everyone is a duplicitous, craven, self-serving traitor? How do you set up a king in a culture where everyone would sell their own grandma, much less kill someone else, for a beer?

No matter how cynically you think about human civilization, it has to require more cooperation and trust than these idiots could possibly manage, not to mention long-term planning that would break down the moment it got in the way of someone's selfish, immediate desires.

Any thoughts?

Anarcho-capitalism. Everyone's looking out for numero-uno first and foremost, but sometimes to save your own hide you have to help someone else - either so they won't seek retribution or so you can call up a favor later.

Lots of backstabbing and maneuvering, either low-grade gang shit or highbrow courts.

Of course, if these are goblins we're talking about, and you're going for a lower fantasy kinda vibe, odds are most of them would be loners, or have small tribes. Think Hall of the Mountain King type stuff.
>>
>>49687161
It's kind of pointless to navel gaze about how they come to exist and cooperate. They literally exist to be the bad guys in your game. That's what they are, and that's what they do. The story and campaign dictate how they work.
>>
>>49687161

Tolkien's own explanation was that the Will of beings like Morgoth, Sauron, and Saruman was required for orcs to be anything more than a disunited rabble.

Cf. also stormtroopers or clone troopers and either Emperor Sheev or Joruus C'Baoth.

I'm looking for pics of Space Marines out of their armor (NOT PORN).

Pics of Space Marines being armored, pics of them just plain out of their armor. Bonus points if anyone knows of pictures of space marines out of their armor doing stuff in their off time, like praying in their fortress monastery or going hunting.

I didn't put this in the existing 40k art thread because I'm looking for a very specific subset of pics.

Drawfagging also welcome.

Ah, so you've come to me, have you? Well, allow me to introduce myself. I am indeed he who is called the Lorekeeper. Aeons ago the collective gods of the appointed me, a mere mortal cleric, to keep track of their histories throughout each plane of existence, and each iteration of their rule, and so granted me immortality. Unfortunately for them, they never counted on me being quite so... thorough in my records, and as such I keep track of every glorious victory and hilarious mistake they've ever made much to their annoyance. Ah, the stories I could tell you... Why there is no Church of Olidammarra, or why Moradin made dwarves always to have beards, even the women! But I ramble Travellers, what is it you require of me?

If I decide to switch to using a 3d6 in place of a 1d20 dice, then what other mechanical adjustments should I make to make the conversion smooth and successful?

(The 3d6 dice by the way is a roll over the target number deal, like with the 1d20 in most systems I know of.)
15 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>49683718
Adjust crit number, as 3 and 18 are much rarer to get than 1 and 20s.

It's much easier to succeed, there is a lot less randomness involved.
>>
>>49683718
Do it like GURPS.
3 is always a critical success, 17 always a failure, 18 always a critical failure.
But the better (or worse) your skill, the more the range moves. So if you're really bad at something, 3 is crit success, but 15 to 18 is crit failure. On the other hand, if you get really good, 3 to 6 can be a crit success, but 17 still a failure and 18 still a critical failure.
>>
>>49683816
>>49683859

Do I need to adjust any DCs from the 1d20, or can I keep them exactly the same? On a 3d6, you don't get a natural roll of 19 or 20 after all.

Not really 'a' spell, but I've always wanted to play a kingdom builder or god game where PCs could use magic to shape geographic features.

Not constantly, since it would be costly, but being able to tear down a mountain to expand my kingdom through a new valley would be awesome.
>>
>>49683514
A character of mine had a tome of cosmic horrors that he'd been carrying around for almost the entire campaign; near the end he'd been driven to just enough despair to actually use the thing, either for a TPK or to try and cause a mutual kill on the main 'antagonist' god, but he got killed off with incurable "soul poison" despite being the greatest healer in the world at the time.
I was pretty sure it was so he wouldn't spoil the GM's planned ending, especially because every artifact I'd made through the campaign broke/failed/wend unresponsive right after I died.
Didn't care too much because I was sick of similar bullshit that had been going on for a while and I'd wanted to quit anyways.

Hey /tg/, question...

My FLGS has a lot of first edition Malifaux figures on clearance. I've never played the game, and I'd like to get into it.

Would it be alright if I got the first addition models, along with a faction deck, so start playing? Also, how do Malifaux players feel about using proxies?

>>
I can't answer your qeuestions but I do have a Malifaux question. Does the game support campaign play? Really want something Mordheim-esque
>>
Which models have you got?

The Malifaux general is here >>49605425.

Yes, generally an Arsenal Deck will have all the statcards you need, and then it's just a deck of cards and you're ready to go.

cheap 1st edition boxes are a good source of cheap minions such as witchlings who compared to their 2nd editon counter parts aren't that much difference , but the main characters such as sonia crid do generally look alot better in thier 2nd edition releases but its up to you, also be aware most 1st edition releases are metal and the 2nd edition is mostly plastic. Pic related is 1st edition sonia
