I'm running a zombie campaign, but really want to start throwing out zombies with special traits, like the Special Infected from Left4Dead. It's not a supernatural campaign, though, and I'd like to start introducing a researcher character that's trying to understand the infection, so I'm trying to keep the explanations as realistic as I possibly can.
Current ideas are
Smoker Zombie
>zombie that generates clouds of spores that carry the virus, maybe from a symbiotic fungus
Ice Zombie
>zombie that spits a chemical slurry that causes an endothermic reaction to freeze up prey
Hive Zombie
>zombie with infected bees/wasps burrowing through them
Any other ideas? Suggestions for (pseudo) scientific explanations?
>>49790981
> zombeez
>>49790981
The most plausible zombies are always the techically-still-alive 28-Days-Later kind of zombies. There is a wide variety of reasons why dead people don't get up and walk around, and it pretty much adds up to the fact that dead body parts don't work anymore.
Maybe instead of a literal infection, it's a drug that makes people really violent, fucks up people's flesh like krokodil, and is growing in popularity because it's cheap and gets you high as fuck. Or maybe it's more of a cultural "infection" with no physical vector at all, a subculture of angry cannibals, like if juggalos actually did all the violent stuff that they brag about in their music.
>>49790981
What are some types of zombies that you would like to include, and what powers and weaknesses you want them to have? If you could do that, I'd be happy to write some technobabble for them.
Is there a non cringey way to have racism be a theme in your setting?
Handling it properly and not have it as
>orcs are nigger lmao
>>49789469
Yeah, assuming your group isn't full of idiots too immature to examine a theme like that. After all, racism was a real thing. Hundreds of millions of very smart, capable, or even brilliant people have been racists over the course of history. Many had good reasons to believe what they did. You just have to craft something on the same level as real life in that regard. Where racism is taken as a given, with logical reasons that people can point to in order to justify it.
>>49789469
dont be a /pol/ack and try to justify it, dont be a sjw and make it "OH SEE HOW BAD RACISM IS???!". All it takes honestly.
The FUCK.

How does anyone defend this shit? it's bleedingly obvious that GW is basically just charging whatever they think people will pay, without regard to what it cost to actually produce the mini.
The warboss is "more important" and thus is "worth" more. because GW said so.
I know GW is extremely anti-consumer and short sighted, but jesus this is just blatant. how do fanboys still defend them?
>>49786291
I don't defend shit. The only thing keeping me from actually being a modeler and not just an enthusiast is the fact that I can't justifying paying $20 for something the size of my thumb.
>>49786291
>How does anyone defend this shit? it's bleedingly obvious that GW is basically just charging whatever they think people will pay, without regard to what it cost to actually produce the mini.
>The warboss is "more important" and thus is "worth" more. because GW said so.
Not understanding the basics of economics...
Because it's their prerogative to charge whatever they want. If it's too much for you, don't buy it. Fucking poorfags whining about a luxury hobby. You want to save money, buy a bunch of greenstuff and sculpt your own models. Oh, they look like garbage? You want ones that look good? Then pay the company that pays the talent which can do shit you're incapable of.

A gift at first, a curse later.
>>49785969
of course its a gift.
In the near future oceans became infested with self replicating highly advanced stealth naval mines that indiscriminately sink any man made vessel. It is expected that it may take more than 20 years to make seas safe again.

Well we'd have a hell of a lot of trouble getting oil anywhere, so America is %100 gonna eat itself. Other countries might fare better.
The plane industry would boom.
>>49784152
America with it's considerable natural resources ample food production and land boarders with important trading partners would probably survive more or less intact.
Island nation like Britain and Japan however are utterly fucked. I'd expect complete collapse into mass starvation and desperate civil war within a year

>>49761055
Wow avian company is tier 3 now? How quickly they fall.
This literally happened in real life tonight and I can't emphasise that enough
>DM new level 1 campaign
>adventurers are 6 moderately experienced players
>they wake up 3 skeletons armed with long swords, axes and shields
>three meager skeletons that I thought nothing of including almost manage to TPK in a hilariously curb stomp battle that effectively killed every party member save for the fighter who decided to just flee back to town barely alive
>laughing so hard tears are in my eyes as their characters start dropping
I forgot how fucking rules illiterate so many players are. The worst part? The fighter HAD a hammer that he didn't bother using the entire fight.
Side question: Am I an asshole for killing them off? I didn't do any kind of shenanigans, just 3 normal skeletons with the same stat bloc from the PF bestiary. At least 2 of them seemed kinda upset that they had to write up new characters. Should I have just let them have the fight or dropped more hints about damage resistances?
>>49759929
The way it sounds you didn't let them do any damage with anything other than blunt weapons.
In which case your a fucking dickhead. If you rules lawyer so much that six people in starting gear can't kill three fucking skeletons because 'muh damage resistance' then you pribably shouldn't DM.
But as everyone knows, your story is fake and all your doing is trying to grab attention.
Congrats. You got me.
>>49759929
> dropped more hints about damage resistances?
Well, you mentioned PF so I assume that's what you're playing. In that case, yeah, you should have. The Knowledges in PF exist almost exclusively to give character knowledge about creatures. If they just made their characters, they probably didn't know enough about the game to invest well in Knowledge, so there was nothing they could do except trial and error, which is kind of bullshit.
> Am I an asshole for killing them off?
You're an asshole for laughing at them. The dice should fall where they do.
>>49759929
>This literally happened in real life tonight
Shit that never happened.
>they wake up 3 skeletons armed with long swords, axes and shields
>three meager skeletons that I thought nothing of including almost manage to TPK
>Am I an asshole for killing them off?
Nah.
>Should I have just let them have the fight or dropped more hints about damage resistances?
What's the knowledge check for knowing that skellies are hurt by blunt weapons and resist other types? Is it something so obvious in-setting that it would pass for common knowledge that everyone knows?
On a 'realism' point, axes at least would be great for smashing skellies.
>The antagonist is a jedi
>The players are not sith or evil
Is that possible?
>>49756721
>>the antagonist is a self-righteous dick
>>I'm a jedi, so I must be right about everything
Entirely possible.
>Overall lore
Yes. Jedi promote emotional detachment, and this can lead to some bad situations like sacrificng innocents for the legitimately greater good, or supporting a fairly oppressive government because a violent hate- and anger-fueled rebellion (or resulting government that forms after the dust settles) would be worse in the eyes of a council.
>Film canon/Lucas lore
No. Jedi are all LG. If you oppose one, you're a Bad Guy.
>>49756721
Yes, but the Jedi would have to be super super hardline. Pretty much evil in his own way. Not necessarily Dark Side, but a baddie.
See the Bounty Hunter storyline in SW:tOR. The main antagonist of the third act is a Jedi Master that's gone completely overboard trying to hunt you down and bring you to justice. He's arguably in the right, given you being a contract killer and all, but he also kills everyone who gets in his way without any sort of due process. His belief is that anyone who defends a criminal is a criminal, and should be dealt with in kind.

Depends on the size of the group and what we're in the mood for playing.
>>Traditional or modern card games?
Modern.
>>Do you play pnp/indie card games?
Yes.
>>Top five card games?
Core Worlds
Citadels
XenoShyft
Arctic Scavengers
Once Upon a Time
>>Top three games with a major card element?
(Question is almost to vague - you might want to refine it a bit. I gather you mean 'non-card games' with a major element?)
7 Wonders maybe? Most modern games use cards of some sort.

After about a year of absence from these threads, I've finally returned, mostly because I want a last little bit of input from you guys on Realms of Triumph before it finally goes up for sale on eBay (I'd use another site but eBay is the only place I've had any success with).
This is the current version of the game. It's basically complete, but I'd just like some opinions.

nm;dr (no memes; didn't read)
Working on a game that plays as follows:
each player chooses 1 'Hero' and builds a deck of 30 cards, each card representing either a unit, a weapon, or some sort of spell.
On turn one players draw a hand of 5 cards. (Heroes start on the table)
Each turn, players can play cards to either summon new units or cast spells.
Game ends when one of the Heroes dies.
Plays like M:TG meets 40k Killteam

Looking for advice for getting from 1250 to 1500.
Wasn't looking to pick up 'Greenwing' stuff but definetly making a proper Ravenwing Strikeforce would probably help.
Will have to take bodies away from the Biker Squads but I still don't know if I will have the points for the Mace of Redemption Interrogator Chaplain on a Bike.
Would a Lvl 2 Librarian or a ServoHarness Techmarine be a better, cheaper experience. (Obviously put on a bike)
So I took the advice that was given to me a couple months ago and dropped my Deathwing Knights for the Ven Dread.
Since then I also beefed up the regular Bike Squads and added Attack Bikes to them so now I can combat squad them out of the formation.
The extra 250pts since the 1000pts I started with has been better.
Having a lot more bodies has helped my army a lot.
Mostly playing against my Dark Eldar, Tyranid and Imperial Fists.
I have my first match against CSM this weekend and I know he plays a nurgle based army so hopefully we will get a good game in.
This is the 1250pt list I am bringing for our game.
Deathwing Strike Force
Terminator Armour Librarian (130pts)
>Foe Smiter, Force Axe
Five Deathwing Command Squad Terminators (250pts)
>Cyclone Missile Launcher, Deathwing Apothecary, Deathwing Company Banner
Venerable Dreadnought (160pts)
>Multi-Melta, Powerfist, Drop Pod
Ravenwing Attack Squadron #(310pts)
6-man Ravenwing Bike Squad and an Attack Bike (235pts)
>2 Grav Gun, Combi-Grav, Heavy Bolter on the Attack Bike
Ravenwing Land Speeder (75pts)
>Typhoon Missile Launcher
Ravenwing Attack Squadron #2(115pts)
Ravenwing Attack Bike (55pts)
>Multi-Melta
Ravenwing Land Speeder (60pts)
>Multi-Melta
Ravenwing Attack Squadron #3(285pts)
6-man Ravenwing Bike Squad and an Attack Bike (235pts)
>2 Grav Gun, Combi-Grav, Heavy Bolter on the Attack Bike
Ravenwing Land Speeder (50pts)
>Heavy Bolter
