This week's Monday Meeting Notes:
http://theonyxpath.com/deja-vu-all-over-again-monday-meeting-notes/
>Question
how do you interpret some of the more obscure pieces of the lore? (like what really killed Lincoln? or what are the Rmoahals? etc....)
>>49813486
Jesus was a Purified, possibly the first Purified
How would you explain CofD to someone who's never heard of it?
>>49813505
The first? Not even close. There were Asian monks becoming purified a good thousand years before Jesus was even a twinkle in his dad's eye.
I'm at the moment working on a space-opera setting and was Working towards developing the spacecraft of one species in particular, the Feyor.
Who are the Feyor? well for the tl;dr crowd; take the worst traits of Hutts and Kobolds and add in a healthy dose of trying-way-too-hard edgyness and you've got an approximation of the Feyorthey're supposed to be the definitive "That Guys" of the Galaxy
So I will ask /tg/ If you gave a bunch of angsty, edgy-as-fuck imbeciles to design spaceships what kinds of traits, flaws, oversights, and overall design themes, should someone expect to see?pic only tangentially related

>So I will ask /tg/ If you gave a bunch of angsty, edgy-as-fuck imbeciles to design spaceships what kinds of traits, flaws, oversights, and overall design themes, should someone expect to see?
Angsty: Every ship requires a self-destruct button that is big, obvious and can be activated at a moment's notice with no possible turning back.
Edgy-as-fuck
Meaninglessly pointy bits all over their ship: designed specifically to spear other ships with. They have booster rockets to make them go faster *just* for ramming speed.
Imbeciles: Their airlocks only have one stage. They open the inside doors and close the outside doors at the same time *really fast*.

40K is an excellent setting for a wargame. It's full of all sorts of big, cohesive factions that all hate each-other and and all keep to their own (usually).
These same strengths, however, make 40K infinitely weaker as an RPG setting. A working RPG setting needs to be one where a group of 4+ badasses of completely different backgrounds and abilities can travel together without raising too many eyebrows, or being stopped by nosy Imperial agents wondering just why an Ork nob, an Eldar ranger, a Human psyker, and a Space Marine are all doing together.
This is a pity, because 40K RPGs, despite being very limited, are a lot of fun.
So, /tg/, how would you change/update 40K to be a setting for adventure rather than war? Lets assume, for simplicity's sake, that you have 10,000 years of in-game history to make a Warhammer 50K setting that's compatible with the already released FFG rpgs and is specifically designed for mixed parties.

Ok off to a good start, onto our next roll: Recruitment Criteria d100
Rolled 77 (1d100)
>>49815662
When did you first realise that /tg/ doesn't actually play role playing games and instead just makes shit up in their imagination and lie about it here?
For me it was the Lich building a utopian paradise and then betrayed by rowdy adventurers copypasta. Like that story would really impress new players who never played an RPG before but is undoubtedly fake. Really like 99% of the copypasta stories are bullshit and you can tell because they'll just hand wave inconsistencies as being due to a homebrew system or setting. Or if they do play it's usually some watered down steam chat bullshit where people just do basic d20 rolls for everything and if it's high you automatically succeed but if it's low you don't. I wager only like 25% of the people here actually regularly play pen and paper just based on the things posted here and literacy of settings/rules/mechanics
>cue angry and upset people telling me it's because I am or have a shit DM.
You guys know I'm right though.
>>49815027
I don't know, I'd like to disagree with you but you're probably right.
For the 5-6 years I've been posting here I had intermittent, shitty games for the first year, no games for the next four years, and I have recently gotten into DMing a regular game.
A lot of the stories are definitely fake, and people who just sit around doing character optimization often flat-out admit they don't have a game.
They don't make it up (mostly), they just play all their games online and lie about it being an IRL game. That's why you get so many "that guy" stories that would never take place in a face to face confrontation.
If stories are fake... Who cares?
I long ago came to terms with almost everything I read online being bullshit. It's unavoidable but it doesn't really bother me that much. If it's entertaining, it's entertaining, but I don't ascribe them any more meaning or value than that.
It's also worth nothing that /tg/ covers more than just RPG's. There's a lot of overlap, but there are some 'just boardgames' or 'just minis games' people on there. There's also a sizeable portion who admit they don't play tabletops, whether due to a lack of time, availability or materials, but have an interest in the hobby or enjoy discussing it and reading about it. And I don't see anything wrong with that.
Whats the worst part of the D&D 5e core rulebooks?
Lack of skill and tools rules. What the fuck am I supposed to use Medicine for?

Yeah that's about the only way you're gonna have a remote chance of surviving. Every witch hunt NEEDS someone to burn. You can't proclaim innocence, you can only shift the blame onto someone else.

It's basically Modern but M15 and beyond. 10 sets are currently legal in the format.

If it gets enough support, it could be a new format. Better buy those staples!
This format sucks because it doesn't include theros so I can't build WU heroic

Works pretty well, Sword of the Animist gets me some missed land drops and gives me more options per turn. Obelisk of Urd is nice because I can boost my thopters and ornithopters to hit face pretty hard.

As of right now, our little Inquisitorial battlegroup is on it's way to meet up with a crusader fleet of Sixty-seven other vessels, from Ultima Segmentum headquarters in Kar Duniash. We will be under the direct command of Lord General, Ignatius Balthazar.
That's all the information I have for you right now. Dismissed!

FAQ:
>What the fuck is this?
Somewhat a campaign of crack-infused free-form roleplay in the grim darkness of the far future.
>When do you guys make these threads?
Usually mondays at 4PM GMT, but they sometimes extend to Tuesdays if we got caught in the middle of something when the thread died and it was too late to make another one the same day.
>Can I join in?
Sure, just think of a character and have fun, you can find most info in 1d4chan albeit it's ussually a little bit out of date in comparison to where the threads are.
>Is there any requirement in character creation.
Not really, we've had Xeno infiltrators, Chaos infiltrators, Villains, Heroes, Normal Guardsmen, Crazed Guardsmen, Assassins, Psykers, Space Marines, Inquisitors, Squats... just think whathever and join the fun.
>Is it allowed to have more than a single character?
Yes as long as you don't use it to powerplay.
>So how you guys do the playan'?
We tend to use spoilers for OOC chat, but nothing is set in stone.
We tend to use greentexts for describing a character's actions, but again nothing is set in stone.
Use d20s for combat checks and d100s for other things you want to roll, higher Is better.
It's important to know that the regiment is now in the employ of a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, with influence from an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and under the watch of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Yes we've been through a lot of shit.

>The two Inquisitorial Strike crusiers, the "Judgements Teeth", and "Sorrow of the Warp", would soon exit the warp above what would appear to be a small Forge World.
>Finishing up preparations in orbit would be nearly seventy Imperial vessels of various class and size, including a Space Marine battle barge, and several escorts for it.
>One of the larger ships, an "Emperor" Class Battleship, would be at the head of the fleet.
>After a few moments, the the Inquisitorial battlegroup, would form up, and the fleet would be on its way into the warp.

So I've just started an Eldar army. My friend drones on about how his Mephiston will rape me and how his Terminators will rape me with their thunder hammers or whatever the fuck they're called.
Any suggestions on how to rape him 5 times over with my Eldar? By christmas I'll be buying a wraith host but for now I've got 3 jetbikes, a farseer skyrunner, a fire prism and 2 units of dire avengers.
Dude.
You're playing Eldar.
Against Blood Angels.
You already got this. You don't need us.
>>49818948
I do because I'm new to warhammer :(
>>49818963
Doesn't matter. Eldar are literally autopilot.
How can you have feudalism, nobility, and sword fighting knights in a far future setting without being too silly?
>>49803099
Like full on knights?
Because im pretty sure some planets in 40k have this
Why are you worried about it being "too silly"?
>>49803099
Armor or personal shielding technology capable of (greatly) reducing the effectiveness of small arms.
Alternatively, a means of rendering more powerful small arms too dangerous to use in most situations.
See: Dune, LOGH

Thread Question:
What are some instances of your party barely surviving a TPK? What went wrong and how did you manage to survive?
-OR-
What type of campaigns/settings would you like to play in but have not yet been able to?
>>49815911
>What are some instances of your party barely surviving a TPK?
Four gibbering mouthers and a roper. The roper kept dragging them closer and the mouthers' difficult terrain aura and confusion aura (plus the massive damage they can do) caused some serious hurt. It was also the first session we did with Roll20's dynamic lighting so everyone was freaking out.
It was fantastic and super-memorable despite going on forever.
>>49815744
That guide is inaccurate.
By its logic, a +1 plate armour is at most 500gp, and it still only provides a range of prices.
The problem with haggling is after a few times it gets kinda timewastey and sometimes a player might feel pressured into taking a bad deal just because they don't want to delay things anymore.
I ran a game with a good wealth of magical items (though generally not very powerful magical items) and trading was taking way too long.
>>49815827
That's actually pretty good.
>+1 armor: 1500gp
Oh, come on, really?

>Surviving a TPK
I was in a party of a bard, wizard, monk, and a paladin(me).
We were around level three at the time playing Out of the Abyss and our DM decided to throw a bulette at us. It did it's leap attack at us and nearly one shot the bard and wizard after they failed their save rolls, while I took a decent chunk of damage after succeeding. I compelled dueled it and allowed the casters to get away while the monk punched it and I threw my smites at it. I was getting pretty close to death so I decided to just say fuck it and downed the mystery potion we got. Turns out it was a growth potion, allowing me to grapple it and stopping it from attacking any more.
The fucking bard killed it with some cantrip that did 1d4 at the end, so the battle was very anti-climactic.
