This is a 40k alt-lore thread with new legions to replace the old ones, new xenos races in addition to the old ones, and a bunch of other wild shit , new posters are always welcome.
Want to find out what the setting's deal is? Check out our wiki.

The wiki is still not as up to date as we'd like, feel free to post questions/clarifications/ideas

Whoa we quiet today.
Should have a properly written out 6th Crusade on the wiki soon. Been busy.
Mulling over a few other campaigns. I feel like doing one with a lot of Oathsworn presence.
We've got a lot of Bloodhounds/Second Sons/Negators warbands.
Anyone got any idea for warbands of the Behemoth Guard, Silver Spears, and Arms of Asura? I get the impression that the Judgement Bringers and Eyes of the Warmaster don't really do warbands, being big on discipline and such.

Can love bloom on the battlefield, /pfg/? Don't tell me you're too insecure to have inter-party romance!
What is the best Lovecraft creation and why is it the Great Race of Yith?
"Tell me more about the Yith," your PC asks.
>not Nyarlathotep, the Dreamlands, Yog-Sothoth, The Elder Things, Doctor Herbert West's ReAnimator Serum, the Mi-go and fucking Randolph Carter
Git better taste
>>49881294
Dreamlands are the best.
I prefer the Yith to the Elder Things though.
Which noncore D&D 4e books are must-haves, which ones are trash, and why?
4e General too.
>>49866609
All the books with classes up to essentials. Dont bother going past essentials. If you can still find the character builder somewhere, go for it.
>>49866609
The equipment book was a must-have for my group, though that may be mostly due to my stiffy for alchemy.
>>49866609
You know, it bugs me that there are certain class features/powers/selections that are exclusive to the character builder: literally no printed source whatsoever. The builder lists the source for all of these as "Player's Handbook Heroes," but they aren't, they're character-generator-exclusive. That just reeks of.... GameStop to me.
Heck, I recognize that most of them are perfectly fine (though Eldritch Strike fully invalidates the hexblade,) but part of me just feels dirty allowing character-builder-exclusive content in my games.
Imperium armies shouldn't have nice things edition.

2k point list, r8?
Also, Knight kit advice? Thermal cannon seems awesome, but the battle cannon will chew groups better and a melta+avenger+icarus should wreck armor anyway, right?
Also, name for this force/a better name for the knight? Oromis sounds pretty cool but I feel like I could do better.
where can I find rules for a thudd gun?
should I buy one?
Trying to use the Death Masque harlequins in a killteam thing. Is this a terrible idea? Just a set of clowns costs 95 points!
I've basically just got the players and a starweaver. Hopefully I don't just get swarmed and get my shit pushed in. Or are these guys so good they only need 5 dudes and a boat?
So I made a campaign for some friends, right? Nearly two years in the making. Carefully calculated to appeal to everyone in the group. Someone got so excited about the setting they made some props just because they thought they were neat. This same guy tells me that the number one rule of DnD is "don't piss down the DM's leg".
Two sessions in. Two sessions. Not even out of the prologue. And it turns out that this guy doesn't get along with one of my other friends, and tells me this by letting me know that this other friend is an Objectively Bad Person and so am I if I keep being friends with him, and that it's my responsibility as DM to make sure he and his wife are perfectly comfortable at all times, and the situation needs to be fixed by strongly censuring the friend in question, without any change of behavior on their part.
What did the other guy do? He occasionally got excited and interrupted people, and he misfired a spell and got people caught in the AoE. That's it.
I didn't take kindly to the ultimatum. Now I'm down two friends from a years old friendship, and out a campaign that was years in the making.
Tell me stories of That Guy ruining everything for everyone, /tg/. Make me feel better with your pain.

>Playing Only War game
>mostly battles with little RP
>doesn't matter, GM makes the best encounters
>learn how to RP with actions alone
>fun for months
>enter Ogryn Player
>he is mostly quiet, nothing wrong with that
>come critical mission
>the GM starts making encounters where we need to actually talk to people
>trying to do some information digging with some local to set up sabotage
>his son enters the house
>Ogryn remembers cleaves him in half because Ogryns are afraid of the indoors and son "startled" him
>GM needs to call a break to recover and the campaign ends with that day's session
Why did you do this Ogryn Player? You were a cool dude up until that point.
Okay you bastards, its time to make shit up. I've done this chart here and its meant to be used. The instructions are simple. You first roll a D20 to get an element from the left side, then roll a D20 to get a creature from the right. Then you mash them together and be amazed at the results. What do you do with the result? I dont fucking care, but I do care and hope that you would post the results to this thread so people can be amazed at your creativity.
Do some writefagging about the creature. Drawfag your creature. Write a bit how you will use that fucking weird creature in the campaign you are totally running now and not just pretending. Roll a bunch of creatures and write a setting based on a world where all those creatures are prominent forces. It's all good, just make something.
Q&A
>But this combination is impossible!
No its fine. Make it work.
>This [Creature] is generally already [Element].
They are just really good at their shit then. Pinnacles of their fucking species.
>I'm too shy to show what I came up with.
Your thing is the best in the entire thread. Just show it already.
>Fuck you.
Fuck you.
Good luck you bastards.
>>49887477
This is my own result. I rolled "Space" and "Angel", so I drew a god damn space angel. Let's get rolling.

>Water Griffin
Half eagle, half horse, half water! Flies underwater! Pushes your shit in while in the air!
It stalks around in forests.
It hunts and devours humans.
It cannot be defeated by an unarmed man.
Could this creature be considered a...
Monster?
What separates animal and monster?
>>49880994
The real world is full of animals straight out of monster manuals, anon.
>the "Oh My" Trinity
>saltwater crocodiles
>the Top Four sharks (whites, tigers, bulls, and hammerheads)
>African elephants
>hippopotamus
>those Australian sea snails that sting you to death
>>49880994
A monster is something abnormal, while there are terrible animals out there that's just what they are in the end. Animals.
>>49881500
Man eaters are often considered monsters.
Let's talk color pie m/tg/. What are some of you favorite color bleeds, bends and breaks? I personally like sets like The Dark, Planar chaos and New Phyrexia that use the standard of the color pie to intentionally manipulate it to create flavor.
Gimme some allstars and some offenders.

A piece of jank no one ever sees coming in EDH
Hate it because no matter what sweat talk they bring excuse it, blue always gets the biggest part of the pie.
One of the players in the game I'm going to run on Sunday wants to play a character that's lived for thousands of years, but is only level one. Like a lich except a huge wimp without the special powerz and abilities. What explanation could they use for that? Like, cursed to never die of age by an angry God? Pact gone wrong with a demon?
>>49884726
How about the character doesn't actually know he goes back thousands of years. Like he's some kind of perpetual who every time he "dies" actually gets resurrected with no memories of what happened.
Keep it a secret from the rest of the party. Then one day your players enter some castle where a tapestry from a thousand years ago depicts an oddly familiar looking figure fighting monsters...
>>49884726
They are immortal, but things like Alzheimer's can still affect them.
I've never in my life have seen a character that's lived 1000s of years done well if it was also a main character (as in a book) or the player character. They always feel like they're a smartass 20-something years old. Thus, I am disinclined to allow such characters in my games that start at low levels. A thousand years is a lot of life experience to accumulate, and it can't be adequately represented by a player without the help of levels.
Anyway, as far as player characters go, the standard explanation that I've seen is that the character someone lost his powers or had them sealed, but that's pretty run of the mill and can be very Mary-Sue-ish. Memory loss is another way to go. Or maybe they spent their life sealed away somewhere or of somewhere by themselves, thus don't know much about the world.
If you want the character to be thousands of years old, and have been active for those thousands of years, you better make sure the player is very familiar with the world and you might find yourself telling the player things his character would know, having lived a long time, or coming up with reasons why his character wouldn't know something, having lived such a long time.
Is it possible to be a diehard fascist and still Lawful Good?
>>49894605
Is it possible not to be?
Yes. Facism is just a model of government, not an ideology.
>>49894631
Wrong. Fascism is a comprehensive world view based on the Natural order of things. Fascist governments are often different in certain policies but always self described as fascist. That is because they adhere to those principals.

I'm glad the game brings some attention to World War 1 and brings up the point that the war was not just "loltrenches" 24/7, but man it's one shitty game, and god damn does it squander its setting.
>the black Germany dude
I always assumed colonial troops had inferior equipment. Am I wrong?
>>49888104
Yeah but the vast vast vast majority of the war's casualties were on the Western and Eastern front where trench war fare was the dominant strategy and the game has no levels or multiplayer maps that take place in trenches or show the average life of a soldier in the trenches
I know I said you could play a non serious character, but this is not ok

>D&D

>roll20
there's your problem
I never understood why people even liked Kender. They were kleptomaniac Hobbits, only far more annoying. The fact that you could choose to play a knight flying a fucking dragon in Dragonlance, instead of a four foot thieving bastard, made it an even stupider choice.
