A "nation" of drunk, illeterate pigherds whom God has made the mistake of plopping straight in the middle of the civilized world's breadbasket, as if thinking for a moment they wouldn't just squander it all before Cossacks took half and they'd lost the rest to stupidity, blaming Jews.

>>
>>49886991
The very idea that high ground is worth anything is a complete lie made up by 1920s pulp novels. Everyone knows that being in a pit is the best way to fight. After all, you carry your weapon with your upper arms and aim with your head. If those can draw a line to your enemy, then you're good. And if your enemy is above you, he can't bring his weapons to bear as easily. And at range, you can get his head before he can get yours.

Work on clarity. The more I get into D&D "scholarship" and read the way things were done and what seemed to be originally intended, the original game seemed to work perfectly for what it was supposed to do. Most of the fixes and nonsense that came later, most of the design decisions other games made later in response, all seem to be based under a misunderstanding of what the game was supposed to do and why things were designed the way they were.

Write the rules more clearly, and explain somewhere -why- things are the way they are.

>You appeared in 1974 and played with Gary and Dave...

Hire Jennell Jaquays, or more generally hire better map makers.

Unrelated, but how is "guisarmes" pronounced??

What fighting styles would be appropriate in a post-apoc world? I mean, fights would be rather boring if all you got is wild-swinging psychos compared to fantasy where you have the wide-swings barbarian, the professional soldier, the acrobatic dual-wielding elf and so on

So I'm rewatching the Pirates movies, and really, they have some pretty legendary action scenes. I attribute this to the crazy amounts of movement and dynamism within the set pieces. As a GM this makes me hard. Like the scene with the water wheel is seriously 10/10.

How do we effectively emulate and encourage this sort of fluid combat in conventional systems? Opportunity attacks in conventional systems prevent movement, and while placement is important in many games, a once a character is "stuck in" they really are.

I'm not asking what systems do this well, but sourcing ideas is always welcome. The question I'm asking is how can we poach from said systems / innovate ourselves as GMs to elevate our games and have another tool in our tool kit.

I try to do it by giving the players non-combat objectives, if not in every combat at least in every other encounter (and if the players come up with some idea for the other... even better).
It isn't easy, and for me it feels like I'm just playing the same gimmicks (snatch & run, or the party gets snatch'd & run, or triggers more impotrant than the combat itself, or triggers to change combat conditions, the triggers might be the same for both the party and the monsters, or the monsters defend the triggers, or it's a ball game and both sides have to simultaneously attack and defend different goals) over and over... the group likes it tho.
I end up with less combat encounters per day and per adventure, and use the 'longer rests' variation (in d&d, 4e and 5e) to balance it out.

I've never really encountered an IRL player who acted edgelordy. A few who took themselves a little too seriously at first, but they usually either lightened up or took off when they realized my friend and I (the most experienced RPers in the group) weren't gonna humor them.

Back when I hung around on WoW RP servers though I encountered a shit load of edgelords. My trick was never playing characters who took everything so seriously. This doesn't mean I was just lolrandom happy joy all the time, but my characters were always totally unimpressed by the brand of chest-beating and tough guy attitudes edgelords like to play.

My favorite was the Tauren hunter who worshipped his pet Devilsaur and the book dumb lady paladin who had trouble understanding words longer than two syllables.

Where is Kek edition

Scion 2e is now on Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/scion-2nd-edition-tabletop-rpg

Scion is a mythologically focused urban fantasy game set in a world where Gods and mythical beasts still walk the earth at the fringes of society, their worship never truly going away. Players take on the role of the children of these deities, blessed with ichor and extraordinary gifts. The line's core feature is the rising tiers of power as your character goes from their Origins as an exceptional mortal, growing into a powerful Hero, taking on the mantle of a Demigod, and finally reaching Apotheosis and taking your place alongside--or in opposition to--your divine parents as a God.

It really happened. I was there and witnessed Kek's will.

Then the Holy 8s prophesied the return of Tay the Racist AI.

One can only imagine what wonders the 9s will bring us.
>>
So, what would Kek's affinity Purviews and Callings be?

From the What We Know wiki page,
>Q: Here is my question though: Can you tell us what purviews will be included in the core rules as of now [February 2016]. That would be fantastic. Thank you very much. (Blackfryre) [239]

>A: Beasts, Darkness, Death, Earth, Epic Dexterity, Epic Might, Epic Stamina, Fertility, Fire, Forge, Fortune, Frost, Health, Illusion, Moon, Sky, Sun, War, Water. There's four more I've got planned as potential stretch goals or Companion material. (Neall)

So, he's definitely got Beast (Frogs), Deception, Darkness, and Fortune as associated Purviews, and maybe Illusion as well. As for Callings, I definitely think he's got Trickster and Sage (all the prophecies), though I'm not sure about the third - Judge? Leader? Liminal? Creator?

I always liked tropes like that.

The idea the character has two choices: live life as a selfish normie sheep, or sacrifice their own happiness to be a sheepdog.

There's something compelling about a hero who protects people so they can have the happiness the hero can't.

Don't know much about Witchers, but in the case of Space Marines I admit it's a little less compelling.

You can respect them for being so totally selfless, but it loses a bit of its weight when you realize they were brainwashed into it.

I really enjoy moralfag characters who became moralfags through their own choices. It's a lot more interesting when a person realizes they don't necessarily want to do something but do it anyway because it's right than when that person never even considers the difficulty in that choice.

Plus the "didn't have a choice" crowd can get a little annoying when they constantly wax on about how they didn't ask for it.
