Tabletop games sound cool, but I have no friends. How do I play tabletop games without any friends?
>>50042571
Online. Roll20 has a bunch of games.
>>50042581
How many groups would be okay dealing with a complete newbie, though? I mean I've skimmed the sourcebooks and read stories so I KINDA know what's up, but I've never actually played. If it were me, I wouldn't want to play with newfags like I am now who would just slow the game down.
>>50042600
Some are okay with a complete newbie, some aren't.
If you're interested in 4e, I can recommend a game which is open to total newbies as long as you aren't an asshole and are willing to learn.
What spooky-scary games are you fa/tg/uys playing this Halloween?
>>50042545
Betrayal is okay but gets old after awhile. The expansion hopefully fixes that.
>>50042778
I only really play it around Halloween, so I'm nowhere close to playing all of the scenarios. It's my favorite game to play with people who aren't really into tabletop games.
>>50042778
The scenarios are funny but the running around before is jarring and repetitive.
Sup /tg/. I was talking to some friends about following the rules and shit and when is a good time to bend them or ignore them for the sake of a fun time.
So, I'm asking you guys. What are some fun stories you had that happened because the GM decided to bend or ignore the rules?
It has to be done in utter secrecy, because it is essentially ignoring player agency. All the player has to affect the world is their imagination and the rules, and if you go fucking up the rules on their behalf, they lose meaning. They're not concrete tools for them anymore.
>>50042566
>I'm a retarded fuckwit and don't believe in allowing fun
>>50042566
Nah that's only if you're aiming to pull one over on the PCs or hide something. Usually the group is fine with little things to grease the wheels and move things along like forgoing all the stealth checks of hidden enemies and just eyeballing against a single investigation attempt, or ignoring what's technically a size category change due to shrinking two inches temporarily because derived statistics are a pain to do mid session.
I do have problems though with my players not accepting plot magic like impossible or permanent magical effects and locations that make the premise of a story. They question who made the illusory corridor and what specific spell was cast on it to make it work the way it does and what level the spell was cast at and why can't their wizard do that. This can be a bother, so I've taken to god level magic as my go to explanation.
That Guy thread
>playing PF years ago
>mind control a giant, spell lasts one week
>party debating whether mind controlling an evil giant to do good is itself an evil act
>say I don't care, we're friends now
>next session jokingly bring in a prop crayon drawing of my character and his new best friend, signed by my character
>GM unhappy I have this master blaster shit going on, because having extra muscle was cutting our usual multi-hour combats in half
>tries to separate us by making us go into a town where my bro will be attacked on sight
>tell him to wait in the forest, I'll come back for him later
>CN rogue asks what the giant does while I'm away
>oh, you know, mostly sits in the corner and drools
>"Okay, I slit his fucking throat before we leave for town."
>GM allows it, doesn't give me a chance to stop it or resist, says I can't attack the rogue either
>player even tears up the prop drawing
I still wonder if I was That Guy for doing something unorthodox and still didn't pick up on how this might annoy the rogue or if he's That Guy for going out of his way to fuck with me. The campaign fell apart shortly thereafter because the rogue also slit the throat of an important NPC, but I kept playing till then.
>>50041949
No, you weren't That Guy at all. Some (usually newer) GMs always have problems with players doing things they did not prepared for at all. In the first campaign I played in I ended up doing something similar to you and the GM acted the exact same way. The second my monster friend was "off screen" he turned up dead.
If it was within the rules of what your character can do, you should've been allowed to do it. Telling him to wait in the forest would've been a good enough workaround for me. Letting your rogue one shot him without any sort of combat encounter is petty nonsense.
>>50041949
looks like a combination of a few things.
That GM: Is a cuck who thinks multi hour long combats are fun, and is actually anti-fun by the looks of it.
That Party: Opinionated and cancerous understanding of ethics. Probably argues mechanics half the time if it doesn't favor them
That Guy: The rogue is worst one of all. Probably Tres this shit all the time.
>>50041949
Cast speak with dead.
I want to run a quest where players bust a wizard for violating magical laws regarding the ferocity if created creatures.
In essence, the wizard is making overpowered shit compared to most monsters, and needs to be stopped.
Do you think players willbe into a dungeon where they have to avoid most monsters as part if the plot?
The mid run twist will be that the wizard is barricaded at the top of his tower and really wants an evac from all the horrible clawmonsters.
>>50041686
Make it an island.
>>50041717
Well, that -would- solve the problem of why the monsters havent spread yet.
>>50041819
also because island of dr. moreau is a thing, hence the image. have fun getting called out for that.
It is Halloween night and therefore time for Games Workshop's yearly How Can We Be More Evil meeting. At this meeting, they scheme ways to maximize neck-beard tear production for the year to come.
Given the success of last year's thread, they have decided to again take suggestions from /tg/
So fa/tg/uys and ca/tg/irls, come up with evil ideas for Games Workshop to implement. Keep in mind, while being pointlessly cruel is always a plus for the big GW, they also really like money.
~~~
Some ideas from last thread where:
> Microtransactions. GW makes a 40k app, where you can buy one use 'cards' that grant extra attacks or allow you to reroll dice.
> Make all GW tourneys only allow GW paints, GW tools, and GW glues in making models.
> Pay to own dataslates, that grant elite versions of units. The slates are also only rented and expire after awhile. For double evil, the elite versions are also limited in number.
> The use of official GW terrain is folded into the rules, like other unit types
>>50041577
https://youtu.be/_zSxQnZ3TM8
In all seriousness, GW has done plenty of good stuff recently, I'm pretty optimist with their future. All we need now is a good overhaul of the 40k rules and it'd be fine honestly.
>>50041577
Wouldn't the simplest, yet most evil thing, be to have only currently in-production miniatures be Official Citadel Miniatures?
>>50041620
It's the perfect cover, they're setting us up for the final blow.
It's brilliant really
What would an adventure in a half-submerged dungeon be like?
>>50041382
Would be hard to find places to dry. So much water and your skin will start to fall off.
>>50041382
Cold.
>>50041382
Very fun for ourleopard-sealloving druid.
If you guys could change the names of abbility scores to something else, What changes would you make and why?
I'd get rid of the stupid str/dex/etc that d&d taught us and move on to the clearly superior S.P.E.C.I.A.L. scheme.
>>50040822
Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Health look fine to me.
Still wondering about separating perception and will from intelligence for good, though.
change strength to Muscle Fibers
change dexterity to Cartilage Power
change constitution to Organ and Skeletal Integrity
change intelligence to Brain Wattage
change wisdom to Brain Wattage (2)
change charisma to Face Level
If you're designing a muscle suit that can be used as a self contained environment how would use design the feet? As strange of a question as it may seem what would be the advantage/disadvantage of the "foot' glove design in general military application?
>>50039671
I would use a normal goddamn shoe because I'm not a disgusting barbarian.
On a more agreeable note, I'd probably go in for the Japanese separated-toe design. There's no reason you'd need each individual toe separated - human feet don't "grip" with them. Have the big toe separate and the rest together.
There isn't a good way to do it. In fact, it's a very serious engineering problem with no clear answer.
>>50039671
>human feet don't "grip" with them
That's only true for westerners with stubby toes, and who wear sports shoes everywhere.
Years of martial arts training have taught me that you actually DO grip with your toes.
Even when you're wearing boots, because your feet aren't clamped down tight inside them.
>>50039671
The wearer's feet would be contained in a regular shoe-shaped bit, but the 'feet' of the suit would have splayed toes for more grip, more akin to a gecko than a human, and you can have anchoring spikes in the toes.
Kosak fucked up let's make our own lore edition
My PC had to kill both parents at an early age. A witch had cursed the village, causing Triple curse - Vampirism/Lycantropism/Turning undead - to grasp the villagers.
After he killed his mother and his father, my PC eventually fled the accursed lands and had joined the Inquisition.
How should these initial experiences shape his character beyond the fact that he did not just kill himself due to the guilt? I want to go a bit beyond "fervently hates witches/vampires/werewolves".
thanks
>>50038204
Despises ANY kind of corruption, ANY disruption of people's lives, ANY ruination of innocence, ANY destruction of how things are.
You'd basically be playing an edgier version of Snufkin
>>50038204
>A witch had cursed the village, causing Triple curse - Vampirism/Lycantropism/Turning undead - to grasp the villagers.
All at once? That's a bit overkill, isn't it?
>>50038204
Nice way of getting the 3 stereotypes in one package anon.
Sadly that marks you as a edgy tryhard who is too lazy to make up background, so please.
Try harder.
Stunt/description/roleplay bonuses to actions - what does /tg/ think about those, and why?
>>50038114
In theory it's a cool concept, in practice it just drags out every single action both in and out of combat.
>>50038114
It's an interesting concept, but you end up having Stunting be mandatory. For instance, in Exalted, you are at a massive disadvantage if you DON'T stunt: You can't parry weapons with your bare hands if you're not stunting, for example. You also don't recover motes, the game's MP.
This means, in practice, you stunt for EVERYTHING. Everything, to get two more dice.
>>50038177
So it's a mechanic that encourages you to use a lot of cool, creative descriptions in a game meant to simulate stories with a lot of cool, creative action?
Yup, that's a serious disadvantage of the system if I've ever seen one.
Depends on thecolors you want to paint it. Holy fuck what a dumb unspecific question.
