> Player says that he wants to be a necromancer.
> Sure, but necromancy is evil.
> Player says that his necromancer is different - he doesn't kill innocents, and he wants to create an utopia, where the dead do all the menial work for the living.
> Well, that sucks, because necromancy is still evil.
There's a reason construct and undead are different types. Necromancy doesn't merely animate bones, it traps souls in rotting bodies and brings them great pain, as they are unable to ascend to the afterlife. It makes the living wither and die, it twists and corrupts nature. It's just what it does. Do you think that necromancers live in places devoid of plant and animal life, with skies covered in black clouds, because they want to?
Why it's always skeletons and zombies? Not elementals, not golems, not homunculi, it's always undead - they want to play necromancers, a stereotypically evil archetype. Why?
>>50205987
Because subverting tropes is fun. Especially if it makes the GM annoyed.
>>50206006
>having fun
>for any reason
>>50205987
Because that's just how it works in your setting, and is inherently stupid?
I play my necromancers like Diablo necromancers. Magic users who are willing to use the enemies own magic against them in order to ensure that balance is kept.
Plus, making golems and homunculi are expensive as fuck.
Lo brothers it has been many a lunar cycles since we gathered to share the exploits of our chapters among the stars. I'm rolling up a chapter as we speak, using the heresy mod. What legion should OP make, and how should he handle his sector?
Also, I shall post screens so /tg/ may help police the sector as they will.
So I would prefer to play an already created legion, just wondering which one /tg/ favors most. BEHOLD CHARACTER CREATION

Starter question: Defence satellites and starforts, good idea? Or are mobile system defences better?
>>50182564
>Defence satellites and starforts, good idea? Or are mobile system defences better?
Depends. Most landed-based species are use to working with combat in 2 dimensions, rather than 3, so even in space when they have all 3 to work with they still have a habit to operate in 2. So, it's easy to take advantage of that train of thought, but it's not the end-all-be-all.
>>50182628
>so even in space when they have all 3 to work with they still have a habit to operate in 2.
What makes you say that?
>>50182564
>Defence satellites and starforts, good idea? Or are mobile system defences better?
I prefer the idea of big fucking orbital railguns, preferably with tubes for nuclear missiles or Casaba Howitzers bolted to the sides. Space CIWS optional.
Beside that, any Planetary Defense Force worth mentioning should have a fleet of dedicated system defense vessels. Failing that, Navy surplus should suffice.
Need help with.some lore stuff: What do you think the "ethics" of military robots will be? How will they be programmed? Obviously now they're all human operated, but what if/when we start putting AI in?
When I say program, I don't mean the nitty-gritty coding, I mean what general principles will they be coded by? For example, Asimov's three laws of robotics are as follow:
>A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
>A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
>A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Obviously, such a robot would be a very shitty military soldier, unable to kill enemy soldiers.
So what do you think the "Laws of Military Robotics" will be when they start programming killbots?
>>50200176
Obviously, such a robot would be used to fight enemy robots.
>>50200176
>A robot may not injure a non-combatant or, through inaction, allow a non-combatant to come to harm.
>A robot must obey orders given it by its superior officer except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
>A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
>>50200176
Asimov's vision of the future was unapologetically utopian. They were no kill bots because there are no wars.
That's said I don't think it's not inplausible the nations rich enough to afford merciless kill bots, will, at least in public, make an effort not to use them in warfare. Just as we have restrictions on the use of gas and in warfare today. Even hell fire Drones in operation today are technically supposed to be human operated by remote control.

Do you use personality types such as the Enneagram or MBTI typings for your PCs? If so, give examples...
Or use pic related and give each type a class. Extra points for using archetypes.
>>50196789
god this is my shit
but i feel it's unreasonable to expect players to already have a good sense of what whatever personality types your using measure and mean
and it'd be irresponsible and unstylish to run official and actual personality types without everybody already having a full idea what they mean, less exaggerators, untruths, and assumptions take seed.
thankfully fictional characters are not real people and we can construct them with ideas can draw inspiration from actual studies without ever being stated or implied to actually be those things. we can base archetypes on watered down psychological theory mixed with the archetypes and tropes we enjoy and relate to in fiction.
there's an issue tho: top-down or bottom-up? the decision to take the surface level characteristics of each type and fill in what's beneath with our artistic liberties, or to take the underlying psychology behind those behaviors and apply artistic license to their expression in personality IS HUGE. some people prefer one, others the other, and to each the other's seems wrong, intuitive, and off the point.
I personally love Jungian cognitive functions and HAVE made modulus for adapting myers-briggs into stat presets (give or take a few of each stat based on personal quirks and upbringing, role-played briefly between player and GM during character creation) instead of rolling for them. Tho desu morality alignments are already straight out of a Developmental Psych text book if you get a group that's fairly... socially observant.
>>50197051
Thanks for the contribution anon, you rise some good points. Your myers-briggs stat preset sounds interesting! Do you pick a class and the MBTI score you get is the stats you get? Do classes favor a particular MBTI type?
You're right about players since most simply go for the cool or funny factor when making PCs. I feel personality types like MBTI and Enneagram are more help to the GMs who need to make quick NPCs with hopes and fears. I never Dmed so I can be wrong.
>>50196789
Unknown Armies asks you to describe your character's personality. You can do this with single words, phrases, or they suggest, with any number of stock personality types you might find in MBTI, Enneagram, or even star signs. This is great because how you express something tells as much about a character as what you express. Someone who says they're a "Total Virgo" has a different feel than someone who is "Meticulously Organized."
>What is Mutants and Masterminds?
"Mutants & Masterminds, or M&M for short, is an adventure roleplaying game in which you, the players, take on the roles of fictional superheroes having thrilling adventures in an imaginary world. One player, the Gamemaster, takes on the job of creating that world and the stories for the other players to take part in. Together, you create your own tales of heroic action and adventure, like your favorite superhero comic books, television shows, or movies. You don’t need any expensive computers or video game systems to take part though. You just need a book, some friends, and plenty of imagination."
The game is currently in its 3rd edition.

How do I shot web?
On a more serious note. I am looking to run a magical girl game for some friends and one of the systems they suggested for running it was Mutants and Masterminds 3e.
Others were Exalted 3e, and scion 2e.
I'm still working out what kind of tone this game is going to have but as far as super systems go how adaptable is M&M?
>>50160642
My own experience with M&M is it works really well in PL 10 and up, while on other levels it's sort of... meh
It adapts pretty well to settings, too.
We don't need a general for this.
>>50160642
>as far as super systems go how adaptable is M&M?
Quite. You'll find powers easy enough to create, no matter what you want. You might have an issue with the way combat works - the no HP in favor of stacking penalties does emulate super hero comics well, but it leads to combat where nothing actually hits/works until one time it does and that's it.
Sorta curious: don't think I've ever come across a female lich in a /tg/-related thing. Not interested in WHY, but just wondering - are there any? What from?

Not many people can tell the difference between a man's and a woman's skeleton.

A manga about boatloads of SJWs getting salty.
Well /tg/ it's that time of year again and the Winter Ball is on the horizon so it's time for us to pick a date!
I figured we are, for the most part, civilized enough that we should have a proper discussion on who to ask so the whole of the board can voice their opinions and concerns.
I am casting my vote for asking /vp/ again. We had a lot of fun the last two years and we have gotten some great OC because of it but we are open to suggestions. I k ow /his/ has already extended an invitation to us.
Guys, I feel bad. I think we should take /po/ out of pity.
I think we should accept /his/. They made a move on us and asked us before anyone else. If /vp/ truly valued us then they would have asked as well. We should take the one that cares about us and doesn't take us for granted, let's go with /his/.
>>50201397
It's not out of pity anon. We asked them last year and they told us to fuck off.
>>50201444
Good points however I do think we should give /vp/ a little bit more time. Their board is in a mixture of complete hype and disappointment because of the new game coming out and the board traffic is much faster than normal, making it hard to keep a Winter Ball thread alive.
>GMing
>sneaky secret spellcasting
>ask to see players character sheet to see their saves
>roll their save for them in secret so they won't know if they were affected by something
Is this a shitty thing to do?
>>50191757
Unfortunately, sometimes this is the only way to prevent metagaming.
I like it!
>>50191757
An extremely shitty thing to do, that's like rolling their perception for them then hitting them with sneak attacks.
>>50191757
I would say it's not a shitty thing to do if you don't trust your players. If you do trust your players, you wouldn't have to roll for them in secret.
And to be perfectly honest, probably 90-95% of players just aren't trustworthy.
How do you present a BBEG as an irredimible monster?
The kind that makes your players shit their pants by only listening to his name?
>>50190887
You can't tell them he's a terrible person, they won't believe you. You have to show them that he's a terrible person.
I had a villain cry like a baby in front of the players, sob how he had been forced to do it and that he was sorry. The second their backs were turned he slit one of the player's throats, stole his dimension door scroll, and left.
He was a serial murder who mutilated women for his personal satisfaction. He was insane or mustache twirling, simply entierly amoral. He wouldn't go on a rampage, just kill one every few months as a matter of course. He just wanted a quiet life.
>>50191028

You are tasked by GW with creating a new WH40K faction - one that will sell well.
What do you do?
