Why would you listen to lindybeige?
There are much better educated people on almost every subject he talks about, with the possible exception of dancing.
AaaGaaaagHHGGG
Lindybeige makes me so angry
What a cuck
people move at different rates in real life, how would you abstract someone getting the first strike?
Fellow writers of /tg/, who else did the National Novel Writing Month this year?
What was your story about? What was your strategy? Did you finish? Did you commission art?
>>50476502
>What was your story about?
Fantasy Bank Heist.
>What was your strategy?
Start at approximate time every day and shit out a certain number of words no matter the quality.
>Did you finish?
Fuck no.
>Did you commission art?
What the fuck even is this?
>>50476502
>What was your story about?
Scifi spy mystery/thriller
>What was your strategy?
3-5 weeks of advance prep work and a rough outline of the major points I needed to get to, and what important things needed to be covered when. But not so much I had already written the life out of the story.
I still named half the characters as I went along, and added scenes where I realised context was missing for key points.
Otherwise, it was write as frequently as I could.
Butt in chair, hands on keyboard.
>Did you finish?
I hit the 50k. 53K by the end of Nano, and its 56K now.
The story isn't finished yet. I'm right at the high point of the climax. There's probably still 1-2K of wind down afterwards.
I plan on finishing it before the weekend.
Actually finishing the story has been my goal, since I am a sack of shit and rarely do.
>Did you commission art?
No.
If I wanted to run these scion guys in an army, who would be the bread to their butter? Do I use them with the imperial guard? What would supplement them the best?
>>50475385
>What would supplement them the best?
Tau. Just rune them as Human Auxilia.
>>50475399
then you have the inconvenience of them not being Battle Brothers, but if you do care about the fluff you could run them along side an inquisitorial detachment
>>50475385
Imperial Guard armor/armored infantry. Scions are high-powered, low-body-count troops that can deep strike and move quickly, so supplement them with slower but significantly tougher vehicles to draw fire and enable yourself to "herd" the enemy where you want him for the DS attacks.
This is a thread for posting modern/cyberpunk/sci fi/etc art for characters, equipment, ships, robots, environments, whatever, as well as to discuss SF-y settings, tropes and concepts
Bonus points: Pilots, cyborgs, and folks with melee weapons
Some discussion questions:
How hard do you like your SF? How advanced, i.e. do you like 20 minutes into the future pararealism, billions of years hence transhuman space opera, something in between?
What're some SF/Cyberpunk versions of 'minor magic items', some advanced gadgets that you'd see in whatever the settings equivalent of sharper image or skymall is? Stuff that's not super useful, but is interesting and adds color to the setting
How do you like robots/AIs? Just the same as people, cold but still relatable, completely alien?
FTL or STL?

chess is pretty boring.
people only played it in the ancient times because there was nothing else to do.

Chess is not solved. We have AI that can surpass best human, but that alone doesn't make the game solved.

Wowzer, i didn't expect that Gemini would be used in the header image!
it's such a honor, thanks y'all
Alright /tg/ need a bit of help. I'm planning on getting some more Warmachine stuff this Christmas and am trying to find whatever the card holder I have in the picture is.
I got my current set of units used and they came with the cards in these really useful transparent sleeves. They are actually pretty thick and both sides are transparent so that you can draw on them with marker.
In addition I am looking to get some infantry and would like to know some recommendations to get. Trying to get a friend to split the dual starter box with me so I can get a lancer and the storm guard but I was thinking of getting some trenchers.
Look for the ultra pro thick card sleeves. As far as infantry is concerned for Cygnar, trenchers should be top of your list. After those then maybe storm blades for the armor cracking. Probably steer clear of storm guard for now. They are pretty weird to use, and trenchers perform their job better.
>>50488893
Thanks, as for the trenchers should I be grabbing the infantry or something like the commandos?
Trencher Infantry are your go-to swiss army knife guys. They shoot well, stab well, protect your caster, jam zones, and need little support to do most of it. Being so versatile is the primary reason most people will recommend you get them first.
The Trencher Commandos are a different flavour of trenchers. They're not bad, but not near as versatile. They shoot a bit worse than infantry, but are better protected against small arms fire. They a better at stabbing small enemies, but lack the damage to break through larger model's armor and hit boxes. They probably prefer to be attacking a flank or sneaking behind the enemy than holding a zone. The odd thing about Commandos is that they don't take Cygnar's buff spells as well as most units.
For Storm Knights, ranking usefulness from top to bottom is Lances, Blades, Sliverline, regular stormguard. It's hard to recommend Storm Lances to new players due to their price. However, they are durable, fast, hit fairly hard, and can clear a bunch of weak enemies fairly quickly. They also love pretty much any buff you can get them.
Stormblades are good. They hit just as hard as the lances, but are slower and less survivable than their mounted brethren. Their infantry clearing is also a little bit lower than the Storm Lances. The Command Attachment and weapon attachments for this unit are good investments if you like them.

Maybe it's changed in the last few years, but when I played it it was broken as fuck and took way too long.
If you fell behind it was almost impossible to catch up.

I'm trying to put together a christmas list for my mom, but I can't really find anything I want.

Best to focus on giving, then. You have your basic needs met and don't really want anything, so share the joy with some homemade cookies or something. That's how I won my fiancée's heart.

I hate to be an ass but shouldn't we support the comic if we want more 40k comics?
I just received a miniature in my local shop. Is that AoS Stormcast? I am playing wh40k.

My group and I have only had experience with DnD (burn me at the stake if you want, we like it) but I want to run something outside of fantasy, what good systems exist for making a high tech space adventure? (Ship customisation and combat, alien races, future weapons and so on)
>>50487147
Traveller is the best option for something that's familiar-ish to D&D players.
The Mongoose version is probably the most noob-friendly edition.
>>50487147
What parts of dnd did you and your group like? What parts didn't they like?
The new starwars games by fantasy flight games are pretty fun, but have proprietary dice and star wars, depends on how you feel about that.
Savage worlds is a generic that can be set for scifi, works for pulpy violent adventure. If you all liked the combat grid part of dnd, this will be familiar to you.
Traveller is a classic, and there's some neat shit there, but it feels old. If tables, very random generation for characters, and high lethality semihard scifi with spread sheets for spaceship design sounds appealing, this might be for you.
Stars Without Number is a strange mix of dnd and traveller. It has really good stuff for building maps and populating sectors with neat stuff. Might be worth looking at just for that part. Also free.
Can't say much about gurps, but someone will probably recommend it as a simulationish generic.
Fragged Empire is the new hotness for space opera. Looks neat. Haven't played it though.
If the story-telling dramatic parts of the game were what your group went for, you could look at Diaspora. Its FATE powered, so more cinematic story telling based, but still a shout out to classic Traveller in a lot of ways. The character generation and solar system generation being woven together is pretty cool.

In terms of DnD most of my players are Roleplayers more than anything, they like making characters that get to experience the world and go on grand adventures while growing and fleshing out their own personalities.
But some of my other players enjoy Mechanics more than anything and arent as into the Roleplay, so it's a careful tightrope walk between the two.
In essence, I need a system that panders to both sides, sufficiently fleshed out mechanics to appease the Rollplayers and sufficient world building and character generation and progression for the Roleplayers.
Hey /tg/. I want to run a game like the anime movie Redline. Fast super cars going super fast and explosions and fun.
Anything RPG system that would work out of the box?

Car Lesbians
>>50486957
Bitchin', thanks! I'll check it out.
Anything else? I want it to be as anime and a crazy as possible.
The alchemist's faire is coming up, and some of the land's best are showing up to present their newest findings and concoctions!
I hear that the comet magus figured out how to create life, and will form a dog from raw elements on stage!
Who else will be there?
a wizard that makes all the women in the audience start farting like crazy
>>50486199
An adventurer.
"Alchemist I need your strongest potion for I'm going on a dangerous adventure"
I believe I may have found the correct formula for the poultice I am developing. With it, I will be able to travel great distances without the need to pay others for the service.
If all goes well, I will test out the new spell tomorrow. I believe I have worked out all of the possible complications. It will allow me to leap great distances, covering many hundreds of miles. Never before has one been able to travel in this manner: vaulting from the ground, sailing through the sky, all without that terrible disorientation of a spell of flying.
The time is almost upon me. My research is finished, and all of my calculations are checked and rechecked. They laughed at me when I suggested this. We'll see who laughs after I leap to the top of their towers and scream out my success

What tabaxi characters have you seen so far?
any information on the next module?
>>50486008
It's seen the codenames "Dust" (or "Labyrinth") and has some writing work in it by Pendleton Ward. Chris Perkins finished up his design work on it recently. It's likely due out in April.
That's about it. We'll probably get an announcement on it in January.
