Can you help me brainstorm ideas for a high-fantasy setting, /tg/?
We can, but we won't.
Cyber augmented soldiers become the elite corporate stooges. Lojacked systems preclude the users natural senses, and as they are sent to disperse the unemployed bums of the megacities, they see only harsh resistors in need of a shock stick crackdown. Meanwhile, the simple diseased pacifists are crushed under the corporate elite bootheel once again.

people can do anything as long as they believe they can.
I challenge you to come up with an entire world based on this premise, including a coherent society and history.
Have fun.
Hey there,
I am looking to print high quality minis for games like Arkham horror to bits for customizing my 14 warhammer/40k armies and being able to check out games like NecroVirus and such. Does anyone know which would be the best 3d printer for getting into cranking out some of my own stuff? The finer detail on small minis the better. I want to try to fit stats on the Arkham minis.
Thanks in advance. Sorry if I make any faux pas. I am new to /TG/
No one makes their own stuff for games?
am I in the wrong board for this?
Hello? bump
Hey /tg/ what are some decent systems with more freeform magic? A friend and I recently played nWoD Mages after playing only DnD before and we really liked the more freeform ability to kinda make your own spells and dividing magic into fields of specialty. So we decided to start trying other systems, preferably fantasy, that have more freeform magic.
Also post wizards
Voodoo counts as wizardry right?
Who needs a shield
>>50491040
Depends on the kind of voodoo. Real world vodou/voodoo generally involves lots of possession and honoring/petitioning of spirits, so it'd be a bit further away from your usual D&D-ish type of wizardry.
I'm trying to learn how to GM having never done it before (for D&D 5e specifically) and I'm trying to figure out when should I be rolling charisma. It just seems weird to me, in a roleplaying game, I should be using dicerolls to do something where I and the players could just be roleplaying characters.
Pic because why the fuck does this thing have 22 cha?
>>50490850
if you havent GM'd before, you should NOT BE MESSING WITH BALORS
>that being said, use fewer dice rolls and look up inspirational speeches and shit. D&D is an RPG, lose the dice and RP. i let my players do that instead of rolling. if they come up with a great argument and have shitty CHA, i consider it a nat 20 because even an autist can make a valid point.
>It just seems weird to me, in a roleplaying game, I should be using dicerolls to do something where I and the players could just be roleplaying characters.
If it seems weird to you, that's fine. You can just roleplay as much as you want, and ignore needing to roll charisma checks if that seems natural to you.
I would suggest that you might want to consider fast-forwarding through some roleplaying on occasion. A minor scene of convincing the stubborn inn keeper to let you stay for half price if the bard plays for an hour might be fun, but those five minutes of roleplaying could be better spent in a more plot centric fashion, and a simple charisma check and a short description is more than sufficient to slip through that small scene.
And, it's good to ask for deception checks whenever the players are going for a big lie. You don't need to ask for one after every small fib, but if the players are trying to convince a character of something, it's good practice to call for that charisma check.
Finally, charisma is force of personality, which is why a Balor, who can easily convince just about anyone to do their bidding, has a high charisma. An attractive appearance, after all, might only be a component of charisma, one that could be superseded by other facets such as personality or even a horrific appearance.
>>50490850
First off, its used for all sovial interactions, so it isnt just looks or charm, it is also how effectively you can communicate and be understood, amd it is used for intimidation as well as persuasion, which is why the monster in your picture would have it.
As for how and when to roll, you use it in conjunvtion with what players say. It determines more how they phrase and present themselves, and how the other person responds, than what they say. I will usually give bonuses or penalties based how what the player actually says, but ultimately it is the character, not the player, who is being judged, so the roll is mlre important, and the modifiers you give for ooc should be limited, say as plus or minus a number equal to proficiency.
>We were somewhere around Barstarr-4, on the edge of the sector, when the chems began to take hold. I remember saying something like:
>"I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should fly."
>Suddenly, there was a terrible beeping all around us, and the sensors picked up what looked like huge bats, all swooping and swerving and diving around the ship, and a voice was screaming:
>"Holy Space Jesus. What are these goddamn aliens?"
Let's have ourselves a brainstorming jam session for the kind of wild, reckless, synesthesiac adventures you'd find in a "gonzo sci-fi" game.
this is fucking retarded

I feel like you're making a mistake whenever you are describing anything as "gonzo".

>Still no Wizard of Oz jump
Why is there no companion option in the Sims? The game is about households.
So I'm an idiot who literally left out the most important part of a perk in the Anima jump, and made a 600 CP perk the equivalent of a 100 CP racial buy. Would anyone's build break if I were to buff the Seeker of Names perk to the proper level? AKA: "You don't have to fulfil the pact requirements for summoning." instead of just "You can tell names (AKA, a minor ability from one of the races)" and "You know a lot of names" (AKA you have a competent Occultism skill)?
The party in the campaign I'm running has just recently gone evil, and I need ideas for enemies suitable to fight an evil party! What are some things that would scare the shit out of typical fantasy evildoers?

An army of Paladins and Knights hunting them.
BBGG is like King Paladin and/or the Pope or something along those lines.
Or an even more powerful bad guy that wants to destroy the universe/kill them for muscling in on his turf/etc.

Could go after richer villains but it could end up feel like a change only in the name of alignment is the problem

Backstabbers who want to take advantage of them by feigning sympathy to their cause only to attempt to betray them later. Imagine if when heading towards the bandit camp, the bandits ask you if you can join them/they can join you?

So /tg/ I know we all love alignment arguments, but I'm trying to focus it. How could somebody play a Judge Dredd like character without being an absolute tightwad.
Hardmode: no alignment shifts from lawful neutral
>how would someone play a Judge Dredd like character without playing like a Judge Dredd like character
>>50488162
Trying to make a feasible replacement that is sensible but still has the hardassness that is truly neutral
>>50487984
>How could somebody...
No, a better question is why would anyone want to?
If Judge Dredd isn't a tightwad he's just the most incredibly unlikeable character because he has no flaw or personality to balance out his incredible badassness.
>I wanna be like Frodo, but cool.
>I want to be like Conan, but you know, not superstitious and impulsive.
>I want to be like that villain guy, only not a cunt.
>I want to be Spiderman, but edgy and irresponsible!
You should have grown out of that by now.

via some terrifying contrivance, the Sol System of real life, including earth and everyone on it has been transported to the Milky way of the 41st millennium, near the border of Imperial and Tau Territory.
what do you do?
what do you think will happen?
Trump is revealed a primarch?
>>50485051
Pray we join the Imperium instead of the Tau because plot armor doesn't exist in real life and I don't want to be a human on a planet taken by Imperium that willingly joined the Tau.

the more dangerous fanatics on this world are instant targets for warp manipulation, our world is put under instant scrutiny for its freakish resemblance to ancient terra, religious drama as the imperium attempts to correct the holes in our faith, not to mention investigating the mysterious knowledge of their reality being distributed from Notingham
So in 40k, the souls of the dead all go to the Warp, right? And warp storms, especially permanent ones like the Screaming Vortex and the Eye of Terror, are areas where the warp bleeds into reality, essentially making it possible to travel between the two. Now, most souls that go to the Warp become daemon chow (unless they were faithful to the Emperor. Then they might or might not go to him in the warp), but assuming someone was a badass and somehow managed to avoid getting eaten by daemons, could it be possible for them to reach a warp storm and eventually make it back into the material world? I imagine they'd be unstable like daemons, and thus couldn't stay for too long, but would that be possible?
If so, what about the dead primarchs, like Sanguinius? Could they theoretically manifest in the real world again for some period of time? What about the Emperor himself, assuming part of him really is in the warp. How would that interact with the fact his body is still technically alive?
Pic semi-related, cause that might actually fit with the theory that the Legion of the Damned are the ghosts of fallen marines, and why they never stick around for too long.
>>50483199
Thats exactly what the Legion is. They are summoned ala daemons by imperial citizens who believe in the emperors might like orks summon psychic powers. I suppose nothing would prevent a human soul from returning to our material realm, assume physical form and then retain it given instability. We don't know what happened to the souls of the primarchs or the big E unless there is something I don't know.
>>50484866
Alright then, cause that actually raises a second question for me. The Legion of the Damned is able to be summoned to the material world because people hope and pray for salvation, and since the warp works on beliefs and emotions, the Legion comes because the space marines are a symbol of death and salvation in the Imperium. Now, since the warp works on beliefs and emotions, there's the theory that part the Emperor is in the warp while his body's half-dead, and if so, he'd likely have a lot of Imperial souls with him since the Imperium believes that the faithful dead go to him. If that's the case, could there be a regiment of guardsmen that come from the same vein as the Legion, and they just don't get summoned because space marines are a more powerful symbol than marines? If that's the case, would it be possible for them to get into the material world by marching out of a warp storm, to help with major battles like the Black Crusade on Cadia?
As for primarchs, I imagine they work the same way. They have a presence in the warp, so when they die their souls -should- go there. I'm not entirely familiar with this part of the lore, but there's somebody called the Sanguinor or something that some Blood Angels think is actually Sanguinius right? Maybe that could be an explanation for that actually being true? Cause if anyone could actually find a way out of the warp, it'd be a Primarch.
>>50484866
>They are summoned ala daemons by imperial citizens who believe in the emperors might like orks summon psychic powers
Maybe. But don't go presenting your opinion as fact. That's one theory among many in Codex: Legion of the Damned.

Agreed. I've actually read better HP fanfiction than the actual books.
Yet somehow I still find the books riveting, in spite of them having more plot holes than pages.
First time in these sorts of threads, but even if you don't plan on using the system, GURPS has a supplement called Back to School. It covers the mechanics for learning in the system, but it also includes a rather large system-agnostic section on simply running a campaign in the school, ranging from "school is the focus of the game" to "school is a minor annoyance in our adventuring." Probably worth a read for anyone that wants to run a game in Hogwarts proper.

She's a good world builder that can write relatable characters and keep the overall mood light and enjoyable even when things are pretty grim. She has her flaws but I think she's pretty good, that being said I think recently she's been trying to become more relevant again which is killing her reputation somewhat.
