Game will ship out in waves, starting in 2017, and ending in 2020. Each wave will have its own pledge manager, and you will pay shipping for it once they are ready to ship that wave.

Just increase the amount you are pledging by the cost of the add on. For example, if you are backing at the $50 level, and would like the First Hero expansion ($35), you would leave your pledge LEVEL the same, but change the pledge AMOUNT to $85.

>do I need both the core game and the update pack?
The Kickstarter is to fund a new edition of the game. If you get the game through the Kickstarter, it will have the update pack already included. If you already own the core game, you need to by the update pack to make everything compatible.

>do I need the update pack to use new expansions?
We don't know yet, but that may be the case. Either way, there are no levels you can back at that don't include either the update pack, or the updated core game, so any base pledge you get will be compatible with the new expansions either way.

A box that is basically a grab-bag of minis and variant rules. Adds classes and a new mechanic tied to a 5th player character. There is one additional major mechanic it adds that we haven't seen yet. The contents of the box are already decided, Poots is just revealing a random item from it each day. The rolls are not tied to the amount of money raised in any way.

This guy has some pretty spot-on observations about D&D 4e.

Perhaps the die was cast when Hasbro decided D&D needed to appeal to a wider audience; they made sure the game would never be mistaken for a good RPG. Just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for their Neverwinter MMORPG. D&D 4e might be gamist (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-3.5 in its refusal of interesting and mechanically-diverse character options. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to (5e).

The combat is dreadful, it's a complete slog. As I played, I noticed that fighter and ranger maneuvers were really just spells, but the game had written "exploits" instead to pretend there wasn't magic involved.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time I found two abilities that were basically the exact same thing. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. The game is so governed by turning fighters into wizards that it makes no sense from a narrative or even gamist standpoint. Later I read a lavish, loving review of 4e by a random forum user I forget the name of. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing World of Warcraft at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to play D&D 4th edition." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play D&D 4e, you are being trained to play online MMORPGs and MOBAs.

It is a common view among many that the Emperor would see the 40k Imperium of Man as an abomination an a perversion of his view, if he ever awakens. However, what would be the reaction of each Primarchs, if he/they ever returned? Who would stay loyal? Who would betray the Imperium?

Thinking back to the origins of D&D, how come dwarfs have come to be considered as opposed to magic as they have? Like, not just immune to it, actually averse to it on a cultural level and all that such. No dwarf magic-users, and in some later settings like Warhammer or even Dragon Age (inspired by D&D, obviously) dwarfs are said to be actually incapable of it, or at least hate it deeply. They may be capable of a KIND of magic (usually creating magic items), but not the one everyone else uses.

Why? I mean, in mythology and folklore they're obviously magical creatures, they use magic and so on. True, Gimli, the ur-dwarf from LoTR doesn't use magic (and we all know his influence on the genre outweighed the entire rest of the race), but then, neither does Legolas and elves have never been considered nonmagical. Nor were humans, for that matter.

So what happened to the dwarfs?

This was always my favourite. Comfy thread atmosphere and bombastic lunacy. Also some wonderfully enjoyable characters that I felt I'd known all my life. It brought a warm glow to this neckbeard's cholesterol clogged heart. I loved the world building and the feeling that the place breathed with life.
