Why is it such a magnet for weirdos, especially weird girls?
>>50488848
It was designed to be.
What I really want to know is why is it a magnet for such bad game design?
One example: guns. Due to the "defense subtracts from attack dice pool, then each success is 1 damage" rule, you can be so inept at firing a gun that you hit 90% of the time, but require five or six hits to kill the average person. Whereas most handguns have something like a 50% incapacitate rate on the first shot. So a gunfight in World of Darkness is more like a fistfight. Because the combat system is designed retardedly at the core.
Another example: stats. Due to logarithmic scaling a 2 is twice as good as a 1 but a 5 is not a whole lot better than a 4. Yet the attribute costs don't reflect this. Even so, increasing stats is always a good thing, and the game needs a hard cap on its superbly non-granular system to make it even function properly, while fucking character variety up the arse.
Not to mention there are nine fucking ability scores. This is elegance for the sake of elegance. Who gives a fuck about the difference between "presence" and "composure"? Especially when Charisma, already the dump stat in most RPGs, is now forced to spend three times as many points to be good at it? I understand this game is about angsty vampires seducing each other (and seducing the emo chicks who play it, which is the only good reason for playing World of Darkness and is certainly the only reason I ever played this pile of trash system), so Charisma is more important. But to equal that out, it costs 3 times as much to be charismatic, thus it is right back on the same footing as it is in D&D! Except even worse because you have to have it. And your points are more spread between these abilities so the cap becomes even more painful (i.e. if the game expects you to have 3 in each stat and there are 3 stats, you only need 9 points, but if the game has 9 stats you would need 27 points and then the high score of 5 suddenly seems extremely low since you have twenty-seven-fucking-points to spend.)

>most handguns have something like a 50% incapacitate rate on the first shot
Wanna say that to my face nigger?
Excuse me Commissar, if wars can be decided the moment the Imperial Navy engages in space to repel an invasion or bombard entire enemy armies with destructive macro-cannons from low orbit, why doesn't the Holy Imperium dedicate more resources to the fleet of warships instead of the Imperial Guard?
>>50487165
What makes you think that the Imperium doesn't? It's Navy is fucking huge, and easily out number the guard.
>>50487194
I'm gonna need citation on navy being the biggest military force.
>>50487165
shhh!!
the chief honcho has a hardon for pointless ww1 trench warfare.
now stop asking stupid questions guardsman!
What was your first campaign and/or session like. DMing or Playing. I want to get some insight on how I can fuck up my first DM session.
I was the christian kid, and it was theight of the 80s. The session was interrupted numerous times by me asking: What about that, is that satanic?I'm not making this up.

First tabletop went pretty well all things considered, I had no idea what I was doing or how to roleplay, but most of the others were in the same boat so it worked out.
>Played a Warforged Scout Druid
>Kept trying to enter melee range with things instead of casting spells/wildshape
>overall thought wildshape was useless, mainly because I didn't have stats on-hand for any possible forms
It's a fucking wonder that character survived as long as he did.
I-is it worth it to keep going?
I don't know if I can pull through...
>>50484738
I come bearing a gift, for you. All you need to do is listen and consider my proposal, I can stop the bleeding and heal your wounds. You can see you're wife and child again, you can have the strength to protect your homeland. All I ask of you is to carry my boon, a weapon. With each death it brings, the stronger you will become. Maybe then, you can become the hero that you always wanted to be. You will know no more failure. Without it, your forces will fall, your wife and child taken from their homes, and your body forgotten and rotting away in the mists of time. The choice is yours, make the right choice

... I accept. Give me the strength I need to overcome

Once the bad guy is dead and the day is saved, do you let your PCs retire and start families or do you force them back into the action once more?
>>50477160
They retire, they always retire.
I don't see the point in them getting back on the road once they've done what they set out to do.
>>50477160
Depends what they want to do. Some want to retire and settle down, others know that they'll never be able to settle down for one reason or another and live the rest of their lives on the road
there must always be a bad guy
How anti-climatic would it be if it was made cannon that, the two missing Primarchs really did exist, and the only reason they are missing is because they died in stupidly silly manners?
> "Augustinius Black, the Shepard, Primarch of the II Legion, died when the plumbing system of his ship backlogued, causing an explosive decompression.
> Sadly the Primarch had been sitting on the toilet when this happened. It took us seventeen weeks in the depths of the waste disposal plant to find all his bits and pieces. > By then the Emperor had decided to simply strike his name from all records, and had forbidden his sons of ever mentioning his name, given it had become a running joke among the Primarchs to call their fallen brother as "Augustinius Black, the Shitpard."
> The II Legionnaires where then merged with the War Hounds, the only legion that either didn't care enough or had no idea about what had transpired (until Praetorian Kharn was briefed on the matter by Primarch Mortarion, at least)
>>50468797
It would actually be a much needed fun poke at the grimdark seriousness of the setting

More Hutt food.
Do we have any canon inkling of what the Income T-85 looks like or how it's different from the T-70? The Wook shows a picture of a red and black X-Wing, which is apparently from Before the Awakening, but it looks exactly like a T-70 so idk.

What are the classic characters in cosmic horror stories? I can think of journalists, academics, artists, writers and private investigators. Any that I've missed?
I'm going to be joining a Cthulhu/Lovecraft vibe set in 1970s England, and I'm trying to come up with some ideas.
>>50503234
>Any that I've missed?
Gangsters. Occultists.
>>50503234
>Cthulhu/Lovecraft vibe set in 1970s England
I don't think that's gonna work. European 70's had their own horrors that would not mix well with mythos.
>>50503234
the ones you need to add are grizzled merc (better combat than the investigators but les investigative) and drunken hobo who is borderline insane, but has seen more shit go down than any of the others combined.

Has there ever been a good Chaotic Evil PC?
>>50501503
If you mean good as in effective, sure. I've played with a few.
Honestly though, I've found that they work better in systems without explicit alignment designations; even if the same character transplanted into DnD or the like would clearly be chaotic evil. I find something about that CE label makes people act like over the top lolrandumb shitheads.
No. They're evil, not good.
>>50501503
Selfish impulses coupled with the active desire to work against established order don't tend to do well with good.
I suppose it could work if the character was working towards building up society, so he had more to tear down.
Does pinball qualify as a traditional game?
No.
Older than any game regularly discussed on this board so.... yes.
>>50500859
It uses mechanism inside and traditional games are meant for cards, dice, tabletopPinball is a traditional gaming machine, but I think it dont applies

My Homebrew? It has to do with a Race called Minos. And a project that is currently on indefinite hold
>>50500781
Do I need to post the mole-men again? That's all I have.
I wanted to homebrew a class based on toon physics once, but that never got off the ground. I had too many ideas and no skill to execute them with.
What is the broken shackles test play? I haven't heard it talked about before.
With Blood bowl out and Space Hulk coming out tomorrow, how are they for people with little prior experience? Are they worth it as actual games and not just discounted model sets? Are they good for getting others into Warhammer?
Also I guess general specialist games thread. Anyone have news on Battlefleet Gothic?
>Space Hulk:
The game is nice, but gets a bit repetitive quickly and has little replay value after you finished all missions. Nostalgia glasses might be necessary for full enjoyment. Miniatures technically can be utilized for 40k army but are not exactly a good starting point (neither is Troop / basic unit type for their respective army). It might attract some people by the atmosphere of the setting though.
>Blood Bowl:
It's in similar vein and Mordheim and Necromunda - lot of fun but not exactly balanced. Lot of hobby potential customizing each and every single one of your guys. Best enjoyed as a campaign with group of 6+ people each playing different team where either nobody is a powergaming asshole or everyone is a powergaming asshole. Officially not canon / not connected with the main setting so models can't really be re-used unless you're playing them as "stand-in". But it's plenty good as its own thing.
>>50500205
Seems like I always get a reply from one helpful Anon. Thanks.
I was wondering the same thing about Silver Tower, is it any fun?
i have to run a no magic game, should i use d&d or pathfinder? i was thinking about pathfinder just because it has more classes that do not use magic
>>50500012
You should definitely use the game called "Caster edition" which requires magic to work for a no-magic game, of course.
>3.PF
>Without magic
I guess, if you don't use the monster manual like at all and only throw humanoid martials at your party I guess
4e is the only d&d that really works in a low/no magic setting, since you can limit classes to martial only and not have any "missing pieces".
So either that, or some non-D&D game.
Although, if you and your friends only play 3.PF anyway, you may as well keep doing that. If you didn't find anything that turned you off already, there's a good chance no-magic won't either.
Does initiative, mook hp and all the other small stuff really need writing and erasing text over and over to track it?
What other tools would work well here? What about an abacus used creatively?
If it's a large group of mooks, I have them act together, or in a couple of groups so that I only keep track of a few initiative scores. For health, depending on what kind of system you're using, you can use dice to track how much damage any individual enemy has taken, just put it next to their name or next to their mini.
>>50499848
why not just get rid of all the numbers entirely? do what I do and just pretend you're keeping track of everything, make things die when it seems like they've taken enough damage
milestone leveling made my life a million times easier, that's why I apply it to all aspects of my games
>>50499875
I haven't actually played any combat with minis. Either the system didn't even try to specify it or I was just too comfortable with "the trolls are like ten meters in front of you side by side" style.
But yes dice are pretty nice until you accidentally knock the tracker dice over.
