Any suggestions on Fixing Burst/Auto fire for D20 Modern/Future and any other 3.5 D20 based games that use guns?
The -4 to hit, +2 damage rule for Burst, and -2 to hit, +1 damage for Double Tap is stupid.
I saw a few threads for Auto Fire, and the one that kind of makes the most sense is making the Reflex Save to avoid the damage equal to the attack roll, and you get bonuses for cover, armor, etc.
However, burst/double-tap would make more sense if you rolled that many dice and got -2 per dice. Less control, but spraying the target area. 3 round burst with a rifle? 3 attacks at -4 each. Double tap? 2 attacks at -2 each. 5 round burst with a LMG? 5 attacks at -8 each.
But law of diminishing returns would make it almost impossible to hit things once you get up to auto fire with 10 shots at -18 each, though you're almost guaranteed to roll a Nat 20, which is an automatic hit. Thus the saturation/area of effect rule instead.
Any thoughts?
This is something that's really been bothering me.
This would also make sense for confirming crits, as rolling a 20 for an automatic hit when spraying would make sense, but confirming a critical with a -18, for example, would be almost impossible. Even with a -8 for a 5 round burst.
Just play GURPS
>>50636888
Why play GURPS?
Can you give me more info?
I need an idea for a horror oneshot.
I said I'd run a game this afternoon, to introduce my group to the Savage Worlds system. I'm having trouble thinking of what to do. I like horror for oneshots, because for a single-session game you don't necessarily have to tell the players anything about what's going to happen, and it doesn't disrupt anything if no one survives. Annyone got a horrifying idea they'd like to share?
>>50631417
The group is on a cruise.
A storm forms out of nowhere.
The engines die, and the mechanic crew is nowhere to be found.
Random crew and passengers start disappearing.
But the lifeboats are still all accounted for.
And that elderly couple down the hall seems all too cheery about the whole affair.
>>50633632
Damn, that's a good setup.
>>50633632
pretty much this but in the generic sense:
collect all the PCs together on some group activity
isolate them from help
Make scary stuff happen
kill them slowly
constantly repeat one strange thing that is a clue, potentially repeat two things so one is a red herring.
So I'm gonna start being a DM in a month and I'll be running DnD 5e Lost Mine of Phandelver since I read it's good for new DM and players.
Here's the rub:
We're doing a campaign (I don't like one shots since the players don't have the joy of creating their character.)
I'm completely new to it.
My players are all completely new to it but two of them.
And there's seven of them because my retard self can't say no and they're all already getting far in their character creation I can't just kick some of them out.
All of my DM friends say I'm fucked (I probably am) but what are some advice so I don't get overwhelmed?
I know it's all about the player's stories and not mine, so I should shut the fuck up sometimes and let them talk. I also know I should try to use NPCs whenever I need to have the players talk (instead of directly have the players introduce themselves, I have an NPC following them ask them who they are etc) and I know my words are absolute but I should still listen to my player's suggestions.
But are there other advice and surprises for a new GM starting with a lot of new players?
>>50630759
>it's good for new DM and players
I respectfully disagree.
>I don't like one shots since the players don't have the joy of creating their character.
What do one-shots have to do with using pre-gens?
>All of my DM friends say I'm fucked (I probably am) but what are some advice so I don't get overwhelmed?
You're fucked.
Switch to a more suitable system or run two separate games.
>I know it's all about the player's stories and not mine
That heavily depends on whether the players actually have a story.
Also, since you're new and running a pre-made scenario in a system inimical to sandboxing, your story has to take priority over that of the players if you don't want to crash and burn five minutes into the session.
>instead of directly have the players introduce themselves, I have an NPC following them ask them who they are
Why would an NPC follow around a bunch of strangers and coax an introduction out of every single one of them?
>But are there other advice and surprises for a new GM starting with a lot of new players?
Your first session is going to suck.
You can mitigate some of the disaster with good system choice and proper communication with the players, but that ship has apparently already sailed.
>>50630759
If everyone's green you'll get hiccups and snags--but that's okay, it's part of learning. There will be downtime for people between turns, so be prepared to remind people to not get distracted with phones or something.
Delegate rule responsibilities amongst the group. "You're in charge of spells. If we need to know the specifics, we'll go to you, so bookmark the start of each letter in the alphabet in those spells."
"You're in charge of combat rules if we dunno what's up"; etc.
It'll also probably keep people involved.
Maybe also bring people into helping track monster's HP, or writing down and tracking order. Again, it keeps people involved, and helps you not be overwhelmed.
>>50630759
>>50631131
^This
But I personally think that 5e is good for new players and DMs as 5e is basically "D&D for Dummies" cause almost everything is simplified and streamlined.
Also be careful about having a random NPC follow around the characters, as a badly implemented NPC can turn into a DMPC or will be forgotten about.

What are some good 40K books to start with? I have the Ahriman series in mind, but the omnibus won't be out for a while. Pic unrelated.

>>50626363
>What the fuck is the Burning Wheel
A tolkien-esque fantasy RPG focusing on character personality and motivation
>why is it so good
Aforementioned focus on character personality and goals make it great for player driven games. Modular complexity also means that you can (to a certain extent) decide how crunchy you want the system to be and it handles a few different types of game quite well.
>then why does nobody play it?
Well the rules are Shadowrun combat levels of dense and not explained fantastically to new players meaning that it's a tricky game to get into. The focus on character driven games is also an adjustment for a lot of people meaning that if you play it the same way as a lot of other games it winds up feeling awkward. This doesn't exactly do wonders for peoples' first impressions.

How do you comfy, Jumpers?
Can Duplication from Rust make mundane copies of non-mundane items, or can you not even try? It's not really clear on that part.
>>50625642
With a lot of magic. I didn't get the comfy couch, but I've been trying to create something like it using adaptive spells that change things as your comfort levels and needs adjust, and actually does so slightly precognitively, so it reacts to uncomfortableness you never actually feel.

Should I build 5c allies or gitgud frog as my next deck?
>>50624096
I choose by taking into account which deck will have the most repeated cards between it and your other decks, combined with which deck you have more unused cards lying around that could slot in
If you have the good allies already just from cracking zendi/rtz stuff then it might be a good choice since you'll never use those cards unless you build it for commander
And I personally don't like building a new deck where I'd have to either proxy a bunch of stuff or get extra copies of stuff you're using in other decks
>>50624096
Man, both are pretty boring honestly.
I guess the frog?

Running a cyberpunk-themed game over the holidays. I'm looking for suggestions on cyberpunk-themed music for any of the below categories.
1) Ambient - the party's not doing anything
2) Infiltration - corporation or secret facility
3) Combat - shit's hit the fan
4) Matrix/Net/Hacking
I've pulled quite a few tracks from the Shadowrun Returns OST and some other games such as System Shock 2, XCOM and Deus Ex, but any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Check out the Dredd (2012) soundtrack. I've used it a few times in various sci-if games. You'll also be well served on a YouTube dive into retro/synthwave stuff, all of which can be pretty cool for a more Gibson-esq setting. Have a look at Peterbator, or MOON. Both of those artists have lent a few tracks to my playlists.
Here's a playlist of mostly classic Detroit techno I quickly put together last time I saw someone ask. I feel synthwave is to cyberpunk what McDonald's Olympics menu is to world cuisine.
The Neotokyo OST is two hours of god-tier cyberpunk music that will be great for combat scenes, with a few tracks better served in ambient ones.

This seems quite a bit stronger than the similarly costed Nebulon-B the Rebels have. Not as good out the front, but much better on the larger side arcs. I like its defense tokens better, and getting a defensive retrofit is great, even if the new one they previewed can get more use on bigger ships. This is also the Empire's first ship with more dice in its side arcs than its front. These things will be phenomenal for sniping enemies at long range.

From last thread, Parcels2Go will not work, i am in US and it has no options for that. I will check the USPS and get it done there. I just hope our shitty mail system gets anon's gift there
"Finished" pic related last night. It was a mini in a box with 2 others on clearance at MM. Figured it would make a good RPG guard/frostgrave man at arms.
Material was that shit rubbery PVC or whatever, so I purposely skipped a lot of the mold line cleaning. I just wanted to knock out the trio quickly. On top of all that, all my brushes are shit (been awhile since I even picked one up), so besides a few color bleed overs, I utterly botched his left eye. Oh well.
