Hey! So, months ago, I had a dubs contest to see what I would paint a tyranid guy I have lying around. Blazing oragane and sky blue won, and after moving to a new city and starting a new career at the last second, I have sky-guy done.

It has been a WHILE since I've done anything with orange, so this was a good exercise for me. Also haven't done claws in a while, but I enjoyed doing this anyway.

Next up, Ultra-nid.

HE'S CAUCASIAN REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

So, suppose I wanted to make a ceremorphised Hydra monster for 5e, how do you think Mindflayers would go about it? I suppose the actual question is what's the best balance between what's "cool" and what "makes sense."
Like do you think they'd get a tadpole for each individual existing head? Or maybe just One tadpole for a "centre" head and the other heads just become really big tentacles? Maybe they have to scoop out the brains of the other heads first for that to work? And what about the regeneration thing? If they stick a tadpole into every head, when it regenerates a head do the regenerated heads come back already all mindflayer-y? Like if all but one head becomes a big tentacle, then it's easy because regrowing a tentacle is no big deal but suppose it's got 4 tentacles and one head, and the one head is severed, does one tentacle and one head come back? Do two heads come back? Do two tentacles come back and the ceremorphised hydra just becomes this bestial, blind, really angry mass of flailing tentacles?
Also drawing a blank on why they'd even try to ceremorphise a Hydra. I mean it'd be cool (or not I don't know, I certainly think it'd be cool) but the Mindflayers don't strike me as the type to go to such overt measures.
And what should I even call it? Maybe keeping in line with the ceremorphised beholder being a "Mindwitness" it should probably be Mind-something. Mindthrasher? Mindsplitter? Like split personalities? I don't know.

>>50625975
I'd go with Mindwrither.

As for function, say that a hydra brains are all linked, and tadpoling one slowly corrupts the rest. You could inflict multiple heads, but they'd be in conflict and not cooperate and eventually tear one another off. I'd make the necks a bit tentacle-ish but retain actual heads at the ends. Anything else is needless complication.
>>
>>50625975
Mind Flayers would more than likely not even bring their own tentacles within 10ft of that thing out of self respect. Intelligence wise, Hydra's are as dumb as a sack of potatoes. They are beasts and nothing more. It is possible, don't ask me how, but it is potentially too dangerous as having clashing personalities within a hive mind is generally a terrible idea. They would not even suffice as sustenance. Their memories would probably be boring as hell to riffle though. The only emotions that could be found would be pretty simplistic and animalistic.

Expansion factions are all innately either overpowered (Aliens, Cybernetics, Pirates, Free Drones) or underpowered one trick ponies (Data Angels, Cult of the planet) that is why they were not included in the original game. The Aliens are notoriously overpowered compared to all human factions especially the original ones.

American Murder Song gives me a great Requiem feel. It's a series of EPs (and associated teasers and a touring show) featuring "murder ballads", set in 1816, "The Year Without A Summer", by the minds behind REPO: The Genetic Opera and The Devil's Carnival.

It's also really fucking good.

>Have you ever run (or played in) a mortals game?
I once played in a Hunter game where we never even thought of ourselves as Hunter, and had no contact or assistance from anyone else.

Set back in Feudal Japan.

Good shit.
>>
>Played in a mortals game

The first NWoD game I ever played was a mortals game that ran for 3 years. Started out using the haunted tree story from the Ghost Stories book, expanded out from there as we started as college students (two hockey jocks, a cheerleader, a goth druggie, a Fox Mulder nerd, eventually added not-Paris Hilton and a supernatural scientist). We went through college with various hauntings and other meetings, after college and during careers we were 'recruited' (by forcibly ruining our lives) into a supernatural investigation group and we found out later, attempt to weaponize the supernatural, which ended up causing the zombie apocalypse/end of the world. We had a rule where we COULD become a supernatural, but if we did we had to transition out of the game. The goth girl became a werewolf when her husband died and she left; I almost became an Acanthus mage but I ran away from the tower. The end of that game was heartbreaking; my long-term PC husband (played by a good friend and bro of mine) got infected by the virus rescuing some scientists and people. I had to put him out of his misery, and became the 'lady who trains everyone how to be badass'. The shotgun, Bessie, became an heirloom of our settlement.

Consider that on EDN in Lost Planet, where your OP pic comes from, Vital Suits are used rather than tracked vehicles because they can trudge through deep snow that a treaded vehicle would sink in, jump or climb up sheer cliff faces, and are mobile enough/strong enough without guns to fight off Akrids without getting swarmed and destroyed since melee ability is something you actually need on EDN where the local fauna can rip a tank apart in seconds, and ones with limbs can manipulate objects without exposing the user to the extreme elements and hungry space bugs.

Lost Planet also has VSs that are more like traditional tanks (Pic related), smaller VSs that are basically an exo suit, and some that are more like an artillery piece that can walk and jump over obstacles, in addition to "normal" vehicles like jeeps and tanks that can be used in areas where it's not covered in literally hundred foot deep snow and helicopters that carry said mechs around.

I've been watching critical role again, because I enjoy watching them interact and have fun. Sure, there are long periods of nothing, but then we get Scanlan 'the Meatman' Shorthault buying 'spice', which makes up for the boring periods.

However, as I watch it, one thing that drives me crazy is Keyleth/Marisha. I've been told that Marisha plays up the cringey portions of Keyleth, but I have a hard time believeing that. Marisha, to me, seems to be the weakest player at the table, unable to roleplay, but putting herself in the game rather then the character. She (the player) seems to try and force moments of awesome, metagames to get her way, and acts like a spoiled child when things don't go her way.

Now the other characters in the game stay in character, referring to her as a 'leader' and such, but really she shouldn't be based on her actions. Scanlan is the face, Vax is the leader. Keyleth's story of the last airbender also is annoying to me, but it could be played better to make it less cringey, but Marisha can't seem to manage that. Taliesin plays Percy like nobility, Marisha plays Keyleth like a mary sue.

Anyway, just wondering what /tg/ thinks of all this. Sure not every player around a table is going to be amazing, but Marisha seems to just be there as the DMs girl, and is tolerated as such.

I stopped watching critical role because of those faults you mentioned. Check out Thrilling Intent. It's 4 close friends having fun telling a story. They have good chemistry, never break character, and can be genuinely funny.
The cast is a bit younger than Critical Role and the opening adventure is worth slogging through the first few episodes for. But there are not Critical Roles long periods of blasé.

It sounds like you don't like the lack of chemistry the players you are currently watching have. It's okay to branch out and find something you might enjoy more.
>>
>>50597170
I noticed what you mentioned too. It bothers me.
>>
>>50597263
I like the chemistry of Critical role, to an extent. It's just that Keyleth's character doesn't fit. I think she has a charisma of 10 in the game, but Marisha tries to act like its 18 (comes off as 4). People call her beautiful in game, which, knowing that Charisma plays into pretty, makes me go, 'eh, shed be more like average'.

She also is supposed to be the moral compass, yet she is the one who cheats at casino games, and breaks rules using magic the most. So hypocritical.

I'll try thrilling intent, but Ill still watch critrole too. I just end up yelling at the tv whenever Marisha speaks as Keyleth.

I'd pay to watch the adventures of Scanlan and Grog.

Picking one minor religion
>How is the clergy organized, if there is one?
None, interpretations on their holy book (a set of laws) are made by the Riark (constitutional monarch) and his electing council.

>What do people believe happens to them after death? How, if at all, can they influence this?
Joy and suffering are bound only to the material plane, and heaven and hell are experienced within life. At the death of the physical body, the non-material soul leaves Earth and then reincarnates or puts itself to rest. The unholy reincarnate into worms and fish, while the holy reincarnate into humans and great animals.

>What happens to those who disagree with the majority on questions of religion?
The freedom of speech is mandated by the book of law, but obscenity is banned and punished. If someone believes the book contradicts itself or the government is interpreting it incorrectly, they must present their case before the council. This becomes a particularly important issue at the focus era of the setting, as the first law written is that your actions should be to the benefit of as many people as possible, and some argue that the later laws can stand in the way of this. If someone downright defies the laws with no intention of making a reasonable revision, they are exiled or punished harshly depending on what laws they have broken.

>What do people want from the god or gods? How do they try and get it?
Their God views humanity as a collective, and punishes the whole or individuals for the actions of other individuals, demanding that humanity takes action against its wickedness. When an innocent person is murdered, it is a punishment on humanity for allowing that murderer to exist. So, the desire is to correct humanity to make it presentable to their god.
