what if I have 9 players and I can't track how much shit everyone is carrying, so bullshit like rogues with 4 greatswords and a platemail in their backpack crawling trough very tight spaces happens in my games, when I want it to be a considered factor?

How would a fantasy setting based on the Japanese mythology look like?

Seeing as I am not the only person in the world I hope that more people have run into a similair problem like me.
Roleplaying a character with traits you yourself find difficult to properly roleplay.

This thread is for stories about those times you, or someone else has played a character who are very much personality wise, different from themselves.
And either succeeded or failed doing so.

The reason I bring this up is because I wished to try a personality different from what I usually do.
Namely I wanted to try a more arrogant person. In this case, a mage with a royal background seeking to claim their title back after having been given a large sack of money and told to get out by their family.
Writing the events in their backstory is fine but actually roleplaying is were I dont succeed and I hope someone here could be of help.

I've got an example of a character I've wanted to try for the longest time, but haven't for a few reasons.

I've wanted to make a fighter who's backstory is they they've spent most of their youth and early adulthood as an "enforcer" for a criminal element, maybe local Thieves Guild, it would depend on DM input.

My difficulty with this is that it could easily pass into That Guy territory, with the edgelord kneebreaker, and that's the last thing I want. What I really want is to play a character who's not EVIL, but who's grown up in an environment where they've become used to using intimidation to survive and succeed in life. Not a character who kills people at the slightest provocation, but a character who'll use the exact amount of pressure to control a situation as it demands.

I feel like this could be an interesting character to balance in a party, but I'm worried I would instead slip into the role of the Dickass Thief.

Answer a few questions and I might be able to help out.

>What kind of character do you normally play?
>Why do you want to play this specific kind of character?
>Do you have more to their personality than "arrogant"? This is probably the most important to avoid coming off as a shitty 1-dimensional trope

Which was the greater leader, Hannibal or Scipio?

Hannibal was better imo. Prove me wrong. Pro tip: you can't.

Hannibal.

Hannibal lost the final battle because he didn't even want to fight it.

Although, I think he made some poor logistical choices that could've ended with "invade Russia in winter" tier disasters

Scipio was never part of the A-Team, which should tell you everything you need to know.

Okay. Mortal wounds would simplify things if you brought them back. GW made points use them as a reference for your points. The it unbalanced my calculations is a lazy cop out.

Template weapons should be pick target within range x, deal d3 or d6 wounds. This is simple, easy to understand, and fits with how things work in the rule set you are convert from.

Unstrike the rule for units only containing models from their war scroll. That is an intentional developmental point.

Screening rules would serve you better, give a +1 to save if a shot has to cross over a model from another unit to get to this model.

Invul saves now become saves vs Mortal wounds, similar to how Ward Saves were effected.

Average game size will likely be much fewer points as well. Idea is to lower barrier to entry not keep it the same. Consider reducing to 1000 points.

Anyone have any good ideas for a holiday themed one-shot? I had an idea of a party meeting at a town festival and festivities are interrupted by a holiday hating spirit.

Call of Cthulhu game about how Nyarlathotep stole christmas.
As in, he literally stole the concept of christmas, and the PCs are the only ones who for some reason can remember that there used to be a holiday on December 24th.

A man with a beard hires the party to spy on a kid to figure out if the kid is nice or naughty.
The kid is extremely paranoid and extremely rich. She has all sorts of magical gadgets to make shadowing her difficult, and she keeps getting the adventurers into trouble whenever they sneak up on her, but she doesn't actively pursue them.

Can the adventurers outsmart an 11 year old kid with an attitude?

So, my DM is running a monster hunter type campaign in 3.5. My original idea (using a huge greatsword) was shot down by so many semantic details that i said fuck it.

We are using core, complete (minus psionics) miniatures, and UA.

So with those limitations, What kinda character concepts would you make? And i mean without powergaming to all shit. Interesting over powergaming.

SnS with oils, DB (but only if you have no more than one fight a day) or Bow (Heavy Shot only, no Arc Shots).
Everything else gets fucked by the system.
>>
What's the point of using 3.5 for monhun if you're not going to abuse the fuck out of Monkey Grip for maximum greatsword?
>>
>>50727985
What's the point of even using 3.5 for monster hunter at all? The system doesn't accommodate anything seen in the games or lore.

Fantastic Landscapes Edition

So, anons, do you like adding fantastical terrain features like floating castles/islands, rivers that rain upside down, walking forests and singing streams to your setting? Or does it have to be as realistic as possible for you?

Never apologize preemptively, anon. Hesitance invites criticism. Confidence dares them.

>>50727485
It depends where in reality you are. If you're in the "natural" world, or the Center, no, things should be realistic because they should feel familiar to the players.
But the closer you get to Chaos in the gradually-shifting cosmology, the weirder things become. Near Chaos just has oddities, like the occasional floating rock, purple rivers, and dwarves. But it only gets weirder from then on, all the way to Far Chaos where matter and energy don't feel any obligation to the natural laws that supposedly hold them together. If it rains upside down, the rain is probably made of sound bursts.

Some anon made this last thread, it's currently the best resource I've seen for looking up monster stats quickly. It has monster stat blocks from every official book, including Volo's Guide to Monsters. This thing is right up there with Kobold Fight Club in terms of utility. How do we get this into the pastebin?

Normal animals? I wouldn't. They're nonsapient and can't talk to one another or form goals beyond their own immediate satisfaction. I don't see how that would be fun.

Now, a game about sapient, somewhat anthropomorphized animals...probably Mouse Guard.

Is it bullshit to put the PCs up against a monster they cannot under any circumstance kill or defeat? I wouldn't use it in an encounter where they could die (unless they did something stupid) but moreso like a narrative device just to push them a bit in the direction I want. You know like the boss you're supposed to lose to in JRPGs sometimes? Is it railroading too much?

I don't think so, but you have to be wary of the temperament of your players. If you have a bunch of potential whiners, it's best to hold off on that sort of thing in case you just piss them off.
>>
>>50726353
If you plan on doing it, say in a dream or something, make damn sure they will lose. I once played in a game where we were supposed to have a dream of an attack in the camp we were at. We were supposed to lose and then gather forces to prepare for the attack, but being the somewhat power players that most of us were, we were able to single handedly defeat the attackers. Luckily it didn't throw the campaign off too much, but it could have.
Also, some players just can't or refuse to recognize an unwinnable fight and will press on regardless, sometimes to spite the GM, so knowing you players and their tendencies could be key
>>
>>50726353
>I wouldn't use it in an encounter where they could die (unless they did something stupid
Then It's fine. Just make sure your players UNDERSTAND they're not supposed to fight the thing.

The old one only got 100 replies.

I need pictures! Pictures of dead giants!
Dragons, monsters and even gods at some point die. What happens with their remains? They become an amazing part of the fantasy landscape!

How do you explain multi-classing?

>>

IC or OOC?
>>
>>50725603
OK, so like, you have your class that you picked, but then you take a second class, so you split the XP you get between your first and second class. When you advance a level in your first class, you roll your HP for both classes but only get the average of both rolls...

Wait, is that dual-classing? This shit's complicated.
>>
>>50725603
I... don't even understand the question. What is there to explain?
