>go to my sister's for Christmas
>walking up to her house, arms laden with gifts, I spot my brother, similarly loaded
>he's got a shiteating grin on

>"Oh, are those the presents you got for everyone? They look nice. I like how you decided to use the same wrapping paper for all of them. Like a set. Or like you couldn't afford more than one roll."
>Can't get my hand into a position to flip him off, simply say "Merry Christmas" in response.
>Once inside, my youngest nephew bounds up to both of us, smiling like crazy when he sees all the gifts
>Ask him where the tree is, while my brother tries to do the whole "Cool uncle" thing, asking him about digimon for a minute or so until the kid just says "I like yokai watch"

>Unload my presents at the tree, then start doing the rounds of greetings
>Brother-in-law, sister, mother, father, nephews #1 and #2, hello again to nephew #3, my other sister, her boyfriend, finally realized I should have commented on how my brother picked wrapping paper that didn't even match the holiday but it's way too late to bring that up, my uncle, tiny old grandma, and finally the three dogs.
>catching up with everyone while sister finishes dinner, end up talking to the older nephews while the youngest just sort of stares at the tree and all the presents

>My brother walks up to me, and my nephews scatter away
>"I think I won Christmas this year," he says to me, and I just nod, hoping he doesn't take that as a sign to continue
>"Really, just wait until after dinner."

>dinner is brief, a lot of old traditions hastily performed
>youngest nephew half runs to the tree as soon as dinner ends
>Sister scolds him, and she starts passing out the presents
>I got a book from my younger sister, and while I'm trying to decipher what it's about, suddenly everyone has gotten really quiet and the mood is definitely troubled
>I turn to look, and my youngest nephew is holding a GURPS rulebook,a few scraps of my brother's birthday-themed wrapping paper still on it, looking like he's on the verge of tears, while my sister is trying to calm him down
>"It's...It's the wrong one...." he says, "It's... it's wrong"

>Other nephews try to cheer him up, but they are also holding GURPS rulebooks, and they can't hide their own disappointment
>My brother jumps in to cheer them all up, explaining how great the system is, and my Sister looks to me, hoping I can say a few words to salvage the mood
>I just glance at the remaining presents
>She seems confused, almost even angry at my casual attitude, but then her eyes fill with hope, and she reminds her youngest child that there are still plenty of other presents
>She reaches for a present wrapped in red and green, and gives it to my nephew

>Still sniffling, he pulls apart the paper without any enthusiasm, but as soon as he sees a little bit of the book underneath, he starts shrieking and his hands start flying at the wrapping
>"IT'S D&D! I GOT D&D! D&D! D&D!"
>My other nephews are tearing open their own gifts, and immediately forget that they're not little kids anymore
>"WE GOT D&D! WE GOT D&D!"
>Everyone starts laughing, and the house once again fills with cheer, with even the dogs barking excitedly

>My tiny old grandma gently pulls at my sweater, and I lean in close as she says in her quavering voice
>"You... saved... Christmas...."

Acolytes and Tzaangor are cool and all, but I'd like some new actual warriors of Tzeentch.

>Traveling from one universe from another gets you either nerfed or buffed to fit in with it more depending on what's the average power level.
>The bbeg is flat out immune to this, his one weakness being how overcautious he is.

What are the best ways that you can fully capitalize on this sort of concept for a multisetting campaign without him coming off as a coward?

Lots of high risk/high reward scenarios that someone who's really desperate would leap at, but someone with a natural degree of risk aversion and no immediate need to win now would balk at. Just make it clear how risky the scenario really is and how desperate the players are, and they'll leap in head-first while fully acknowledging they're doing it because they need to.

How would that even big a thing? Jumping from universe to universe has to be thebultimate cowardice

My MnM 3e BBEG is pretty much the exact opposite of this: The PCs are pretty much having to jump from their universes to another to GET AWAY from the BBEG.

The problem with these threads is that we let people into them.

D&D story time

>Be me playing bard in 5th edition
>Party is jumped by 10 bandits in an alley
>Use hypnotic sphere and freeze 7 of the bandits
>Next turn use suggestion to charm last bandit standing to "help us"
>Kill all the bandits except one that was wounded that we captured and sold to the guard and got gold for the kills and an offer for more reward if we took them out
>Make bandit spill his guts about their base and traps
>Use disguise kit to look like captured bandit and sneak into their base
>Find three bandits inside entrance and convince one to run down a hallway full of traps to his death
>Get other bandit to help with the "accident" and push him in trap pit too
>Last bandit we have invisible druid throw in put in bear form to his death
>After bandits dispatched party has a great idea to convert the bandit to our team
>I then try persuasion skill to convince him that he's followed the wrong life path and the best thing would be is to join us
>Roll a NAT 20
>Jeff joins the party
>Rest of the way Jeff helps kill several bandits till we reach the end.
>Along the way I pick up another bandit and a goblin along to way as servants with Jeff's help
>We get to the end and the clue left for us to follow is in dwarvish and no one speaks it.
>I ask Jeff if he speaks it
>DM rolls a NAT 20
>Jeff speaks dwarvish

And thus the ballad of Jeff the bandit begins. We still have him in campaign and it's fun to watch the DM do a gangster voice for him.

Yeah, as an Admech player Skittles haywire is waaaay more bullshit than anything the clowns can pull off, leave em alone.

Even Skitarii haywire isn't too bad though, its decent for blasting through big tough things like Land Raiders, but it's equally possible you burn 60 points on rifles that kill one Rhino. It's the same as expensive high-T units, they're vulnerable to stuff that ignores that.

Hear ye, hear ye, I call to order another meeting of the Mage Guild. On the agenda for today: Christmas. More specifically, snow. As we all know, Christmas = snow. Unfortunately, overuse of magical equipment throughout the modern world has caused planar warning, which has resulted in the lowest recorded snowfall in the kingdom's history. But we can't have our annual Wizard vs Warrior Snowman Building competition without snow. I therefore suggest that we travel back in time, steal all of the snow from ten days in a row (going backward, so that we keep stealing the snow that will be stolen by us in the future, therefore increasing our snow theft by ten times) and redistribute here.

All in favor?

Ay, sounds good enough.

What if we just use conjuration to make snow?

Why don't we just open a portal to the elemental plane of Christmas, Grandmaster?

Crazy idea, /tg/
In old D&D you got XP for treasure, not killing monsters. This lead to a very logistical almost heist-like game.

So, what about transplanting this into a more modern framework? Every time you get a take back to your HQ (not counting laundering expenses, etc) you get to decide what you're doing with it. Save it, re-invest it, spend it on paranoid gun nut stuff or... blow it.
Everyone has a project they pour money into. A family. A wastrel's lifestyle. A charity. Solving your mentor's murder.
Spending your cash on your drive cashes it into XP. This means:
* reason for backstories outside cheap murder drama
* opportunity for cool RP of good times in normal life
* more choice over advancement
* concrete box gun nuts are actually suboptimal, so fewer players bother with them
Thoughts?

Every PC will just spend their dosh on the biggest, baddest cyberware and guns they can find.

Including tanks.

So, no, not a good idea.
>>
Playing with the source of XP is one of the most powerful but least used ways of modifying the tone of an RPG. I think your specific idea has a lot going for it.

Why is it that almost all of the space marines and all of the custodians are total dicks for normal imperium citizens? ''Hurr durr, puny, little insignificant humans, I'm so much better than you because some gene seed was rammed inside me and now I'm ''super human'' and you're just insignificant. I also forgot that I was just like you some time ago but who cares right''? Explain please.

They are right on being superior and they are tasked with fighting the enemy of the imperium, not protecting the imperials.

>I also forgot that I was just like you some time ago but who cares right''?

Custodes weren't my mane, like Thunder Warriors they were perfect from the start.
>>
>>50866806
They're literally superior, gene-enhanced to be living weapons.

Custodes are even more this, each one the result of thousands of years of genetic science. According to the Emperor, each one of them is unique, and they make Space Marines look like first-day Imperial guard cadets (Constantin Valdor used to beat Horus in sparring matches).

They are, quite literally, a superior race. In some of them, this breeds a great deal of arrogance compared with the "common man" of the Imperium, though it's not the same across all Chapters (Salamanders are one notable exception, but they're not alone).

How would a race that, for some reason now lost to history, purposefully strives to be EVIL, work in a low-magic medieval setting?

I'm asking because I'm trying to flesh out a setting where orcs are really fucked-up and grim and scary, but aren't just minions of a greater power. So I figured that'd be a good premise.

if the race is civilised enough they would end up having philosophical schools where evil is defined and discussed.

they would probably work the way pagans, jews and heretics were accused of working in medieval propaganda, with some systematic satanic twist, like the o9a

They believe hell has limited space and heaven dose not. Onec hell is full the world ends, but if an average person suffers enough in life it is seen as enough suffering for there sins to be spared hell and to go to heaven

So they believe they are keeping the world from ending by making as much suffering as possible
