Considering you can become possessed by the spirit of air and become Storm with minimal preparation... well you can easily do "epic" things. I mean your party still fights trolls and undead and whatever else, they just have to use good tactics and think in "realistic" action movie limitations.

In the past /tg/ made many homebrew races whi were great. I suggest we change the recipe and do it again.
Usual recipe is just find an existng animal and an exisitng culture and mash them together.
The most iconic races in fantasy are elves and dwarves (and orc but orcs don't fit this recipe so I will ignore them).
Both have very little changes from human physiology: Pointy ears and short+beard.
Also currently they are thematicaly tied to an element. Stone and trees.
So we chose a little body variation (ex:split tongue or four ears) and an element (ex: fire or resin/sap) and flesh out a culture.
P.S. And please no more short people. WIth dwarves, gnomes and halfling that avenue is oversaturated.
P.P.S. Original orcs can be included as ugly humans.

I guess it's just any bound formation or detachment that includes some troops, a leader of some kind and then whatever else, doesn't need to be a CaD.
People look down on lower tier armies that try to weasel out of it like an Ork/Dark Eldar army with 15 point mek/Lhamaean HQ.
They also look down on the infamous "that's so chaos space marines army with one chaos space marine" but I'm not sure that applies now TLs is out.

So, how about this shit for a campaign/character hook.
Some time ago there was an evil lich/warlord/monster/whatever that devastated the land bla bla bla. The thing was defeated by a group of brave heroes yeah yeah we know how this shit went. But we need to focus on something else.
The group of heroes that murderhobo'd the big evil thing had a bard in it. A bard that for all intents and purposes acted like a perverted player would have played his bard character. Dumped every single bonus stat point to charisma or the equilavent and just kept doing diplomacy rolls all the time in hopes of winning everyone over. But more importantly, he constantly kept doing seduction rolls on every single woman he came across, even some totally random faceless NPCs. He was extremely devoted to this. This resulted in the bard having unprotected sex with thousands of women. Lets say that their adventure to save the world took around 10 years in total. Several girls a day, that leaves behind thousands of kids that the bard is absolutely not going to return to anymore.
Here comes the hook, YOU are one of those thousands of kids. Through some means, you have found out that your father was a manwhore running wild on the kingdom. Suddenly, you have gained thousands of sisters and brothers of various backgrounds and occupations. Kids of farmers, tavern wenches, town guards, wizards, queens and princesses, bandits and even some half breeds from the non-human races. You could make an army just with your siblings, so numerous and varied they are.
So obviously you set out to find every single one of your never before seen siblings for some grand, or petty reason. Perhaps you want to find your shitbag of a father. Hows that?

It's been so much time since additional content started getting released. Do you see non-PHB material in your games often? Personally, aside from swashbucklers, I've never seen any of them - battleragers, bladesingers, arcane clerics, masterminds, none of those.

How do I run extended horror campaigns? I understand how to do horror one-shots pretty well--they're like a self contained movie and there is no problem if characters die at the end. But how do I keep that up for a campaign that could potentially last months or even a year?
I know a big thing that keeps extended campaigns going is the fact that the characters keep getting better over the course of play, but in a horror game I wouldn't want characters getting so powerful that they can deal with every issue, right?

not neccessarily, characters should change over the course of play but that doesn't all have to be in one direction, Dogs in the Vineyards characters for instance change constantly but don't really get noticeably stronger as the game goes on.
The main issue with horror campaigns isn't so much power level as acclimation, eventually the tension level which created horror before ceases to have the impact it did before. This is why having varying levels of tension is important, you can't just have all horror all the time, you need breaks, the longer the horror lasts the longer the break needs to be to balance it.

Its something i saw someone recommend in another thread, but the example he used was a shopkeeper. The first time introduced, he quickly let slip that she had two mouths. however, when questioned, he denied the existence of said comment entirely.
Little things like this that have no actual impact on characters can easily still make them feel uneasy, and that sense of unease and strangeness can help to build tension.
Done right, this could help keep things going since it means the party could have a great deal less direct interaction with whatever transdimensional horror you have cooked up, meaning that its presence is still ever looming. But the environment itself seems to be on its side, most of the time.
Even during breaks, it won't completely break the tension, but it will unsettle them in a manner much greater than just some strange monster will. Ever changing area's are also a bonus, especially if they keep coming across a room that unsettled them previously. Mark their reactions and choose a room wisely, then every once in a while sprinkle it in.

It doesn't matter if your players keep getting stronger. As long as that ceiling remains unreachable, the horror will keep having power. Just like if you keep adding 9's behind the comma of 0 (0,999...) you'll never reach 1.
