Storythread: post-holidays hangover edition.
This is a thread for creative writing, so epic campaign greentexts and the like go elsewhere. If you have /tg/ related stories to post, post them here, and hopefully some kind anon will give you feedback (or at least acknowledge that someone did actually read it, which let's face it is what writefags really want).
If you don't have a story ready then I and other anons will be posting pictures throughout the thread for you to test your writing skills on. This is, more or less, a world-building and character-building exercise: two vital skills for playing roleplaying games. If you don't have any pics to post, you could try posting an idea for a setting or a character, and maybe someone will be willing to write a story using it. It's also an exercise in writing though, where writefags can try out their material and gain inspiration, so if you just want to talk about world-building save it for the world-building threads.
Remember that writefags love to have feedback on their work. Writing takes a long time, especially stories that go over several posts, and it can be really depressing when no one even seems to read it (and the writer won't know you read it unless you leave a comment).
And since writing takes a long time remember to keep the thread bumped. Pics are good, feedback is better.
And finally, don't forget to check out past stories on our wiki page:

So the digimon thread from before was pretty well received, might as well keep it going.

Does anyone else have experience with other systems besides the two listed, last thread asked about it, but there wasn't much in depth discussion?
Also, here are some templates to make your OWN evolution line.
What would you think of a Tamers/Xros/Appmon-inspired game mechanic where each tamer has one digimon, and uses the data of defeated enemies (not sentient) as mutually-exclusive powerups and once-per-battle special attacks?
I think it's a good way to give the tamer more decisions to make in battles while still only letting them have one digimon with one evolution line.

What do you feel is the most new player friendly clan/school combination and what do you feel is like a trap waiting for new players when joining a more experienced group?

Holy shit that image is weird. His face is so fucked up.
>What do you feel is the most new player friendly clan/school combination ?
I have three picks for the first time players
Hida bushi for those who want to smash stuff cause it requires less diplomacy. Because Crab.
Isawa shugenja for those who want to cast stuff (in an easy way they just have to choose what element they like no complciated bullshit like poitions or using spell slots for stuff). And also you can easily be quiet in diplomatic circumstances because Isawa shugenja is introspective.
And Tsurughi archer, for those who want to trade and also dps from afar. Also, less diplomacy because Mantis.
>>51055464
>What do you feel is the most new player friendly clan/school combination
Doji/Kakita Iron Warrior, Akodo/Ikoma Bushi or Berserker, Moto/Ide Battle Maiden.
>a trap waiting for new players when joining a more experienced group
Everything non-Bushi, especially the Artisan Schools. Also True Ronin in general.
Hey /tg/ can you help me make the cringiest, edgiest character you can think of?
I know both of those terms are very subjective but I mean by them is something that is so full of superficial, juvenile, overly gritty details, both violent and sexual, with as many tropes from DA and other sites that pander to preteens, as you can
So I guess we can start with a hermaphroditic bisexual furry in neon fur colours? Does pathfinder have any good wolf-people?
>>51045155
I feel like furry is to whole a genre/group. It has to have the crossover fiction vibe. It has to be a Goku-otherkin + wolf furry at least.
>>51045120
Okay, how about some sort of furry ninja who is on a quest to avenge his sister who he was forced to honor-kill after she was raped by the daimyo of the dragon clan

Thread topic: what do you foresee as the first 'new' release for dfc? We know about corvettes, BBs, and BCs. Dreadnoughts next? Destroyers? More frigate variants? Light cruisers?
The UCM's Stealth Commando Transport will be nearly guarenteed. It's the only ship constantly referred by name (Lysander) and capability (small independent stealth strike carrier) all the time.

They've got the full package, and sterilized, and can possibly have kids. The only true source we have on this is banter between GW fluff writers and the Relic team on DoW, where the question inevitably came up.
Answer basically comes to Space Marines do have the full package, and aren't sterilized. Their augmentation and training otherwise makes them disinterested in sex when there's xenos and heretics and witches to purge. However, it's quite possible for Space Marines to father children, though whether they would be human or astartes is up for debate. Probably human since you'd need to be implanted with the organs and shit.
Salamanders fluff has them having families, so they can probably have start families, even if they're out on deployment more often than they are raising their kids. Those kids would be prime astartes candidates, though. Who better to be raised as a Space Marine than a marine's own progeny? They've already proven themselves to be compatible with the geneseed and managed to be successful in the chapter already, why not make recruits of them?
>>51100986
>Salamanders fluff has them having families,
Salamander fluff has them having families back home that they keep contact with, but it's more like parent, brothers, sisters, cousins, and such. They don't father anyone nor do they have wives. It's like if your kid getting deployed forever, and you keep in touch with him. It's a point of pride.
This differs from most chapters where they cut ties with their origins almost completely. In some chapters they don't even remember the planet they hail from.
What is the best race and why is itflumphs?

They're not the best race, they're only so good because they're similar to Ropers.

The Kingdom has fallen. The castle crumbles as the Barbarian hordes now sack the capital, and the King and all his knights are slain.

The Barbarians have the regent sign a formal surrender that forces him to abdicate and give his lands to the victors, of course. After which he enjoys a quiet exile on an island in the Sunny Seas.

Pick a motivation for lichdom other than "lol immortality", flesh them out from there.
>Spring, 1919
>Outside Tongres, Belgium
>A platoon of men and a tank of the British Army have bivouacked in a copse of trees.
>Their assignment was to push forward and form an encirclement around the city of Liege, which was currently inhabited by a German army.
>That assignment has gone awry.
>The everyone has fallen ill and a number have died.
>Those who did not die, deserted.
>All that remains are the crew of the Medium Mark C tank “Jimmy”
>Lt. James Moriarty, Pvt. James Litely, Pvt. James Headway, and Pvt. James Smith
>The Officer, the Medic, the Engineer, and the Driver
>After burying the bodies and having a moment of silence, the crew continue down the road.
> After a few minutes, they come across a dead German officer.
>He has orders relaying that the German army in Liege is to retreat to a defensive line on the German border.
>Seeing these orders, they decide to cut the rail line back to Germany and attack any trains that come down.
>When they arrive at the rail line, however, they see a train stopped on the tracks.
>The train is full of dead Germans, from whom they get a better idea of the situation.
>A German Colonel has a letter he was writing to home.
>It states that he is worried about the sickness that is fast spreading among the army and comments that the British must have it too “as artillery has ceased its incessant shelling two days ago.”
>They liberate an MP18 from the train and decide to head into Liege, believing they could secure a German surrender due to the fact the Germans are so sick they cannot even clear the rail line.
>They stop for the night at a burned down farmhouse, in whose cellar they find a dead civilian family and some jars of preserves.
>They enjoy the preserves.
>>51096892
>The next day starts with a heavy mist which transitions into a heavy rain.
>This prevents them from seeing what they are running over for a while.
>The road is carpeted in dead bodies; soldier, civilian, horse.
>They enter Liege and see movement from the window of a boarded up house.
>They call for the inhabitants to come out. A white flag appears and the door opens, a figure beckoning them inside.
>Inside the house, there are 10 German soldiers, 2 Belgian civilians, and a lone Austro-Hungarian soldier.
>All of them are armed with rifles. In addition there is a Maxim gun and an MP18.
>The Officer and the Medic enter. They state they are there to accept the surrender of German forces within the town.
>The Colonel in charge tells the Brits that he will gladly surrender, but he will not relinquish his weapons.
>They inquire as to why, and he informs them that those who died from the flu are not necessarily resting and that they mostly come at night…mostly.
>In addition, there may be isolated pockets of soldiers and civilians left in the city.
>The tank crew ask if the Germans have any motor transport.
>The Colonel tells them that yes, they do, but it is at the Motor Pool in another part of the city where there is an even larger concentration of the things as well as something more terrible.
>There is also a supply dump on the edge of the city that contains ammunition and gasoline.
>They decide to wait for daybreak and then travel to the Motor Pool in order to gather transport for the surrendering inhabitants.
>>51096911
>During the night, a group of 8 zombies and a monstrous conglomeration of human corpses shamble towards the boarded up house.
>The conglomeration slams against the windows of the house, breaking one of the barricades and using its many limbs, some of which still hold weapons, to fire into the broken window.
>The zombies, meanwhile, attack the tank, which proceeds to crush them under its treads while pouring machine gun fire into the monstrosity.
>The hideous thing dies and, for the moment, they are safe.

Talk to me about your blacksmiths /tg/
>>51096869
The profession is valued most among the mages. Fine blacksmiths make great amounts of wealth forging the various blades, blunt weapons, and golem parts so necessary to their war effort. The Empire has a blacksmith in every village. Most craft mundane things like farming equipment and horse shoes, but a select few masters remain in the Empire rather than defect to the mages. Their loyalty is to the Faith rather than coins. Their major skill is getting metallurgy differences in the Empire's blades. Using differential heat treatment, the blades are physically made to take the hardships of combat. Tempering and quenching only add to their deadliness.
Outside of those two cultures, blacksmiths are rare. Very rare. Metallurgy is not something that suites nomads and tribes. If they do have the know-how and skills, the resources are hard to come by and often of low quality: iron particles extracted from sand for example. The goblins and orcs cold forge copper into "weapons". Goblins learned from copying humans, while orcs - being corrupted people in this setting - were smiths already before the transformation.
One goblin den-mother carries a fine hammer forged from sky-stone. It's incredibly dense yet light enough to swing freely. A blacksmith back in the civilized world would kill for such a stone. They could forge a truly mighty weapon that would fetch a king's ransom in gold.

The fucking meteorite was an Inert Elder Evil and he didn't notice.
Later became a legacy weapon that drove the user bonkers and if on failure, rotted out their form and had a far realm entity fill it thus becoming pseudo-natural, or it turns them into Aberrations or Outsiders, oh, and NEVER astral project with it in hand, you'll see what you're really holding.

Keep in mind that Genius is based off science--the stuff that I AM RIGHT is based on is stuff like atomtech 50's worlds or steampunk cities iirc, not stuff that operates off shounen logic unless it had something to do with technology.
A better way of doing it would be based off technology from mecha shows or action movie logic or what have you.

GNS Theory is widely known to be kind of shit. That's true. But that doesn't mean that the three "categories" don't still refer to purposes or goals that a gamer (or a game designer) may have in mind. A person can want to play an RPG because he or she wants a challenge, because he or she wants to experience a story, or because he or she wants to experience an internally consistent world. There are probably other purposes as well, but the goals of narrative and simulation are the only ones relevant to the point I'm about to make.
I think that choosing a system and planning a campaign with simulation in mind is more conducive to role-play that can be compared to great literature than is focusing on narration.
I say this because the focus on "telling a story" leaves less room for character agency, and for exploring what characters do and want.
A simulation style game, with the right players, allows for immersion and freedom in tandem, such that players can do whatever they want but aren't inclined to do random bullshit. Instead, "it's what my character would do" gains actual meaning instead of being an excuse, and players enjoy developing their own characters and learning about their relationships with others, watching them succeed or fail based on their own decisions and the capricious winds of fate.
Focusing on story means insisting on pacing. No time to explore whatever comes up, lest the players lose interest in the thrill of the plot.
Focusing on simulation means letting things unfold in the most internally consistent way possible, watching a character struggle with alcoholism or grieving, taking the time to recognize that living in a world with dragons or a virtual reality Internet won't eliminate loss or render all obstacles external.
>>51096376
GNS still offers us valuable insights OP. It's the three main approaches to role-playing games.
A simulation is probably the most misunderstood of the three.
it's typically confuse with just simple realism, something people (wrongly) think is incompatible with the fantasy genre.
Simulation is this also seen as 'rules heavy', but the lack of gay missed abstractionism actually means I love chunks of setting rules can be safely dropped with 'common sense' being used as an actual standard guidelines rather than inconsistent nebulous loop hole.
