Welcome to the thread for d20 station, a rules light, medium RP Space Station 13 server.
>What is Space Station 13?
It's a 2D top down atmospherics simulator with who dun it gameplay layered on top. Each crew member aboard the station has a specific job to perform, while a select few are selected to be traitors (assassin/spy/thief).
>Why is this on muh /tg/?
d20 is a server made for fa/tg/uys by fa/tg/uys
>How do I play?
You'll need to download the BYOND client.
BYOND Download link: http://www.byond.com/download/
A BYOND account is HIGHLY recommended
To connect: Open BYOND, click the gear in the upper right. Click "Open Location" and paste in the IP below (Visual guide: http://i.imgur.com/d9D82fK.jpg).
byond://76.16.8.127:28014 OR byond://d20station.ddns.net:28014
>I'm new, and I don't know what the fuck to do. How do I swap hands?
Use OOC (backspace say" in the bottom, type OOC and hit enter, or: http://i.imgur.com/RodAGGZ.png), which means Out Of Character chat, and ask someone for help on how to play. People will almost always help you get a grip of the game if you're polite about it, just don't reveal too much in-round information in OOC.
There's also wikis dedicated to documenting the spaceman way of life, but they vary widely from server to server.
>What are the rules?
The rules are very relaxed and admins try to take a hands-off approach to administrating. Admins will generally only intervene if someone is explicitly playing to ruin the game. Reminder to read the rules in-game.
>What map/code do you run?
We run a heavily modified Ministation map with mostly custom code. Most jobs on Ministation are merged with similar counterparts and head roles have been re-enabled.
>When does everyone play?
The server is mostly populated with Americlaps, so peak times are usually between 7pm-3am EST
>Who are these tripfags?
Usually admins/coders for the server.

It's happened like 5 times in d20 history I'm sure.
Yadda yadda Bandana is die
I totally didn't see that coming a fucking mile away. What are the implications for the plot, though?
>>51109979
They are going to fail and lose the airship, probably.
>>51109956
Improvised weapon is what, 1d3? Bandana must be a level 1 commoner or some shit to get knocked out from that.
So, which parts of the Expanded Universe are good enough that I can mine them for an upcoming campaign, and which parts should I avoid like the plague?
Looking for stories that focus on force-sensitives, smugglers, and bounty hunters rather than Jedi/Sith or the Empire/Rebels.
Preferably comics and novels, but I'm open to other mediums if they're worth looking into.

The Corellian Trilogy was my childhood, I may not be objective about it.
But the The Corellian Trilogy.

Tales of the Old Republic is always good, even if it focuses heavily on jed/sith. But it's old school sorceror sith.

Only the New Disney canon is any good.
>Cyberpunk setting has a "totally not a god" figure
>periodically "inspires" (drives unlucky souls mad) with dreams and visions of technology that doesn't exist or proof of concept theories that once reverse-engineered benefit the setting
>The not-god does this in exchange for a three-fifths enforced ban on all worship. Mankind is not to praise higher powers
>The reason? the not-god prefers the pseudo scientific silence to the sound of an entire population's worth of faith. The existence of actual gods are is neither confirmed nor denied and the not-god's lack of divinity is apparent. It is not all-seeing and operates as you might imagine a benign c'tan might
>Population is enormous. Work is impossible to find and highly desirable due to augmentation and automation
>The average citizen has a home, of sorts, enough clothing and regular meals provided by the goverment. Some education as well
>People are free to live as they please, however anything above nutrient paste, basic clothing and a hole in the wall dwelling cost money that less then 10% of the population earns
>Because of this money is less important. Quality still increases with price but a low-paid living worker will still be able to afford an upper-class life by today's standards.
>sustainable poverty and excess wealth are the only two social classes
Just how fedora-tipping or atheist's magical realm is this? I've attempted, perhaps poorly to distinguish my particular cyberpunk flavor from others

Being all-knowing, all-powerful, all-anything, are not requirements to being called a god, being worshiped as a god, being thought off as a god, etc. What you have here is a god that thinks it can stamp out the human need to call out or be in awe of something they think greater than them. It *will* be worshiped, if for no other reason that it exists, is powerful/knowledgeable and has regular contact with us.
>>51108301
ok, so worship is tolerated. Not encouraged but after a while trying to stamp faith out to no avail there's no longer an active effort against it. I want to avoid the "demon/evil deity is subverting people's faith to nefarious ends" so simply dealing with the reality of faith seems like a reasonable middle ground

>>The average citizen has a home, of sorts, enough clothing and regular meals provided by the goverment. Some education as well
Fuck off commie.
What system has the best combat mechanics?
Me and a couple of friends want to play just a series of Battles, leveling up over time, have interesting progression and interesting battles.
>>51108107
D&D 4e, with Dungeon Delve. 30 small adventures, one for each level, consisting of a couple fights each.
For necessary/recommended fixes see the 4e general when it rolls around again.
D&D 4e for fantasy style tactical battles.
In broader terms, the two systems I hear mentioned a lot for having fantastic combat systems are Legends of the Wulin and Song of Swords. They're both extremely proficient at what they do, even if what they're aiming for is completely different.
Legends of the Wulin is a Wuxia game with amazing rules for high flying, over the top action while Song of Swords is a much more grounded, realistic experience with a lot of detail, granularity and lethality.
>>51108107
I wonder how do you even get nail polish in a old time fantasy setting
Have you guys ever experienced something in a game that made you too sad or depressed to continue it?
My character in this game accidentally gave someone an incurable disease that they will die from very soon in a normal attempt to heal them. I feel like absolute shit because of it and now I'm having trouble getting back into the game.

>My character in this game accidentally gave someone an incurable disease that they will die from very soon in a normal attempt to heal them
What system were you using? This sounds a bit like Black Crusade.
My friend severed a female NPC's spine then knocked her unconscious and refused to play the game anymore after she woke up because he knew he'd have to face the consequences of his actions. It was a post-apocalypse campaign with all manner of weird cthuluoid creatures and different factions and cults (think Apocalypse World). I finally got them back into the campaign after almost a year, and he ended up giving her a folded up note saying he was sorry for what he had done to her. This was after she had found out she was crippled and shouted at the character about how "fucking sick!" he was then dissolved into crying.
What are the best recorded campaigns of all time? Audio preferred, I'd like to listen while I work.
If you like Star Wars, I'd highly recommend the Campaign podcast by One Shot. The story starts with two Star Wars d20 episodes, and the rest are all done in the FFG Edge of the Empire system.
>>51107908
Cool, I'll check it out thanks.
So I've never listened to this podcast but why is it that the promo art of this show depicts the elf wizard as a pale elf in wizard robes but all the fanart and videos depict him as a really effeminate crossdresser in a skirt
my current setting is a high fantasy world that is set in a pre apocalpyse. it will under all circumstances face its end in 100 days and its impossible to save.
share your thoughts. What kind of scenarios would be cool, how would NPCs likely behave, just give me input. this is my first World and its built completely around this concept.
apart from that, its kinda your usual fantasy world, with steampunky dwarfs (most of them living in steampunk sky cities, kinda like bioshock infinite), Elves, Humans, and other Tolkien-esque races, next to some OC folks.
The apocalypse itself is happening due to the death of God. No one really knows how God died, but thats how it is. His death led to everyone in the whole world being able to use magic, which was first a privilege for the elves. however, usage of magic leads to Mutation and kinda behaves like radiation in our world.
Don't be too harsh on me, i know its not the most creative setting in the world, i'm just looking for some input from experienced worldbuilders like you guys. Especially on it being a Preapocalpyse setting.

What does a paladin do when the demon king is vanquished and there's no more evil left to smite?
> Seeing your purpose in smiting
"Paladin" of vengeance, everybody.
>>51106387
Maintain the vigil.
A paladin's duty does not end when his immediate foes are vanquished.
The forces of evil are ever-present and insidious, and you must seek them out where they fester in the hearts of men.
A true paladin does not hang up his sword merely because "the great evil" has been defeated.
It is a life-long calling.
To merely seek vengeance is unbecoming of a holy warrior.

Anons, how much script is too much script when doing Word Bearers?
Like, what if I wanted to have script all over the armor plates of a Maulerfiend? And I mean all over it. Not just a few lines here and there, but enough to look like someone was able to write a book on it, y'know?
>>51106063
If your script looks decent (attempt for pic related)
Then it can look good but if its splodgy thick random lines then it can look shit.
Hey /tg/ have any of your pc's had children? what were they like? Also if a pc sires children to later play in a different campaign, who would roll the stats?
I had a Dwarven Wizard in 3.5 that was happily married and running the finest establishment in our NotSharn city on NotEberron. I figured it would be important to keep the Runeforger clans legacy goinjg through them and to make sure they are properly educated while being surrounded by all the wonders of the magical world we live in. We played a really long time and had to stop before we got to that part though so I never actually got to do it but I was definitely in the planning stages
I do big families for my characters.

>Atila Pox.
Transmited by the Atila Mushroom's spores. It starts by coughing, when the fungus have settled on the lungs. The patients gradually become a fungus themselves; along with their surroundings (home/dwelling place is contaminated, mushrooms everywhere). If the climatic conditions are right, this can plague whole forests and towns.
>White Lotus
An STD that provokes ulcers and sores on the skin; and eventually causes blindness (the eyes of the patient turn almost white). However, is in the nature of the sickness to make the sick charming and desirable to the opposite sex, as a method of self-preservation. This is presumably caused by a fragance expelled by the skin and more intensively the sores that blurrs the judgement of the potential victims, to the point that some people tries to engage with the patient even knowing the risk of infection.
Its common among young girls (and some boys) to accuse the most popular and cute girls from their gang of having this disease. The boys, uncertain if they like said girl for natural reason or due the sickness, are meant to stay away from her.
>Walking Dead
Primarily transmitted by fluid contact (blood or saliva). The patient's will is overthrown by an urge to attack and bite others. It also grants an unnatural resistance to attacks, hunger or thirst. Luckily, they get weary over time and can be hunted and killed (although they can be treated on the early phases when there is fever, there are no documented cases of reverting from the rabies state)
>Davy's Cake
A coral presumably taken from the northern sea; that when dried, grounded and dissolved on a liquid (leaves a mild taste of sea water) will poison and kill the drinker on 6 to 24 hours. The victim's body starts growing corals from the inside out; and every body orifice; eventually collapsing all systems.
Those very corals are usable for making more poison, but all civilized laws prevent the manipulation of any body killed by this substance unless by an authorized doctor; to prevent the corals get into circulation again. This bodies must also be cremated, as the corals tend to grow on the deceased graves if there is enough humidity.
The poison can be countered by drinking gasoline; though it must be done as soon as possible: it will turn the organism into a hostile system for the corals to develop.
Also OP here; I also accept interesting poisons ITT. All ideas you can give me are welcome. I'm particularily interested on diseases that can wipe out entire settlements or even civilizations

Zealot Fever
A unique form of fungal strain that is known to affect humans, although most healthy individuals can resist infection.
As is the nature of a fungal infection it is parasitic and seeks to reproduce. It does this by affecting the brain of the subject and having them move to a place that is damp but otherwise has access to light. Over time growths will begin to grow out of the infected person's body and they will feel the urge to kneel with arms outstretched to allow the fungal growths wide area to access light and moisture.
In a matter of days the affected will be rooted in place and begin to grow mushroom like caps on their body, the entire time they are still alive although body functions are reduced and certain energy needs handled via the fungus.
The name of this infection came about because of the way the user appears to kneel in worship and was the cause of major quarentien of a small farming village when the local pastor fostered the infection in his congregation believing it to be a sign from their god
